The Getty Museum, located on the west side of the Sepulveda Pass, is one of the most visually stunning locations in Los Angeles. The Getty is an architectural master piece, over looking a garden like no other, featuring some of the best views of the Los Angeles basin.  The J. Paul Getty Trust is a cultural and philanthropic institution dedicated to the presentation, conservation, and interpretation of the world’s artistic legacy.

The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks to inspire curiosity about, and enjoyment and understanding of, the visual arts by collecting, conserving, exhibiting and interpreting works of art of outstanding quality and historical importance. To fulfill this mission, the Museum continues to build its collections through purchase and gifts, and develops programs of exhibitions, publications, scholarly research, public education, and the performing arts that engage our diverse local and international audiences. All of these activities are enhanced by the uniquely evocative architectural and garden settings provided by the Museum’s two renowned venues: the Getty Villa and the Getty Center.

Collections

The collection of the J. Paul Getty Museum comprises Greek, Roman, and Etruscan art from the Neolithic to Late Antiquity; European art—including illuminated manuscripts, paintings, drawings, sculpture, and decorative arts—from the Middle Ages to the early twentieth century; and international photography from its inception to the present day.

The Getty-Collections Tour

Collection Highlights Tour
This one-hour tour provides an overview of major works from the Museum’s collection. Meet at the Information Desk.
Tuesdays–Sundays at 11:15 a.m., 1:00, and 2:15 p.m. with additional tours on Saturday and Sunday at 12:15 p.m., additional tours on Saturday at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m.

Focus Tour: Era of Impressionism
Explore the Getty’s collection of 19th-century paintings by artists such as Millet, Monet, and Van Gogh in this one-hour tour. Meet at the Information Desk.
Tuesdays–Sundays at 1:15 and 2:00 p.m. with additional tours on Saturday at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Focus Tour: Fit For A King
Explore the Getty’s collection of 17th- and 18th-century art in this one-hour tour of French decorative arts, paintings, and sculpture made during the reigns of kings Louis XIV, Louis XV, and Louis XVI. Meet at the Information Desk.
Tuesdays–Sundays at 12:45 p.m. with additional tour on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Focus Tour: Go for Baroque
Explore the Getty’s rich collection of 17th-century painting and sculpture by masters such as Rubens, Rembrandt, and Bernini in this 50-minute tour. Meet at the Information Desk.
Tuesdays–Sundays at 1:30 p.m.

Focus Tour: Renaissance
This 30-minute tour introduces key examples of Renaissance art in the Getty collection. Meet at the Information Desk.
Tuesdays–Sundays at 11:45 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays

The Life and Legacy of J. Paul Getty
In this 30-minute tour, gain insight into the life and work of avid art collector, ambitious businessman, and museum founder J. Paul Getty (1892–1976), who dedicated his fortune to create “a museum, gallery of art and library for the diffusion of artistic and general knowledge.” Meet under the stairs in the Entrance Hall. Sign-up begins 30-minutes prior to the tour at the Information Desk.
