The event promotes the four South Bay beach cities\, the world’s best lifeguard service\, and physical fitness for thousands of participants. \nParticipants range in age from 8 years old to the late 80’s.  The three signature events for the festival are the Judge Taplin Lifeguard Medley Relay\, the Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim\, and the Charlie Saikley 6-Man Volleyball Tournament.  Other great events include a surfing contest\, bodysurfing contest\, beach run\, paddleboard races\, dory race\, and youth events. \nThe International Surf Festival kick-off dinner is held on the Wednesday at King Harbor Yacht Club\, prior to the start of the Charley Saikley 6-Man Volleyball Tournament and the Lifeguard Intracrew competition on Friday. The winning team gets the honor of holding the “Taplin Bell” perpetual trophy until the following year’s race. The individual names of all sixteen team members from the winning team are engraved on the perpetual trophy to mark their place in history. \nIn the evening prior to the Taplin relay\, spectators will be treated to rescue demonstrations\, Jr. Lifeguard relays\, Lifeguard Beach Flags and the Chris Linkletter Women’s Surf Relay. The first event on Saturday night begins at 7:00 pm and the Judge Taplin Relay begins at approximately 9:00 pm \n  \nSunday\, August 7\n7:30 am- Velzy-Stevens Pier-to-Pier Paddleboard Championship – Manhattan Beach Pier\, North Side. \n7:30 am- Sand Castle Design Contest – South side Manhattan Beach Pier. \n9:00 am- California Beach Volleyball – Hermosa Beach Pier. \n9:00 am- Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim – Hermosa Pier to Manhattan Pier\, no Race Day entries. \n \nThe Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim is one of the most popular long distance swims in the United States.  In 2021\, 1141 swimmers completed this grueling two-mile course.  Swimmers enter the water on the south side of the 10th Street Lifeguard Tower (South of the Hermosa Beach Pier).  They swim round the Pier\, parallel to shore then round the Manhattan Beach Pier and finish on the beach. \nThe swim will again be conducted in 3 heats. The first heat\, male swimsuit\, will start at 9:00 am. The second heat\, female swimsuit & wetsuit\, will start at 9:05 am. DESCRIPTION:WEDNESDAY TO SUNDAY – South Bay Beaches\nThe International Surf Festival returns to Torrance and the Hermosa\, Manhattan and Redondo Beaches August 3 – 7\, 2022. The event promotes the four South Bay beach cities\, the world’s best lifeguard service\, and physical fitness for thousands of participants. \nParticipants range in age from 8 years old to the late 80’s.  The three signature events for the festival are the Judge Taplin Lifeguard Medley Relay\, the Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim\, and the Charlie Saikley 6-Man Volleyball Tournament.  Other great events include a surfing contest\, bodysurfing contest\, beach run\, paddleboard races\, dory race\, and youth events. \nThe International Surf Festival kick-off dinner is held on the Wednesday at King Harbor Yacht Club\, prior to the start of the Charley Saikley 6-Man Volleyball Tournament and the Lifeguard Intracrew competition on Friday. The dinner includes the Los Angeles County Fire Department Lifeguard Medal of Valor award ceremony. \nPresented by BEACHSPORT.org\, the Chambers of Commerce and Cities of Hermosa Beach\, Manhattan Beach\, Redondo Beach\, Torrance\, Los Angeles County Fire Department and Department of Beaches and Harbors. \n \n\nWednesday\, August 3\n5:30 pm- King Harbor Youth Sailing Event – King Harbor Yacht Club . \n6:00 pm- Los Angeles County Lifeguard Medal of Valor Dinner – King Harbor Yacht Club \n\nFriday\, August 5\n9:00 am- Charlie Saikley Volleyball Tournament – Manhattan Beach Pier 6-Man / 6-Woman \n \nThe Charlie Saikley 6-Man Beach Volleyball Tournament is the premier 6-man beach volleyball tournament in Southern California. The tournament draws over 50\,000 spectators each year. The event has been moved to Friday and Saturday to make team participation more convenient. \n7:30 pm- LA County Lifeguard Championships – Hermosa Beach Pier\, L.A. County Lifeguard Rescue Demo\, 6-Lifeguard Run Relay\, Bud Stevenson Intracrew MedleyRelay. \n\nSaturday\, August 6\n6:45am- International Bodysurfing Championship – Manhattan Beach Pier\, North side. \n7:30 am- The International Surf Festival Surfing Championships – Hermosa Beach Pier\, South Side. \n \nThe International Surf Festival Surfing Championships will be held on the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier. This venue is one of the premier surfing locations in the South Bay. \nThis surf contest is one of the original events of the International Surf Festival when the event began in 1962. This year marks the 59th annual contest. \nThe 2022 International Surfing Championships we will consist of a Groms 12 & Under\, Juniors 13-16\, Men 17 & Over\, Women Short Board\, Women Long Board\, Long Board Jr. 20 & Under\, Long Board Men 21 & Over.  Groms 12 and under $30. All other entries are $45.  You may select a second entry for $15 at checkout. \n​Medals will be awarded to the top 3-finishers and T-shirt’s to all competitors who enter by August 4\, 2022.  T-Shirts to late entries while supply lasts.  A competitors only raffle will be held. \n​Long Boards must be 9 ft or 3 ft over head. \n SLOTS WILL FILL FAST- ENTER EARLY-BEACH ENTRIES ONLY IF SLOTS OPEN \n8:00 am- R-10 Paddleboard Race – Torrance Beach. \n8:00 am- Dick Fitzgerald Two-Mile Beach Run – Hermosa Beach Pier\, North side \n9:00 am- Charlie Saikley Volleyball Tournament – Manhattan Beach Pier 6-Man / 6-Woman (continues). \n7:00 pm- So Calif. Lifeguard Championship Events – Hermosa Beach Pier\, \nEvents include: L.A. County Lifeguard Rescue Demo\, Junior Lifeguard Taplin\, Lifeguard Beach Flags\, Chris Linkletter Women’s Surf Relay\, Judge Taplin Three-Mile Lifeguard Medley Relay \n \nThe Lifeguard Taplin Relay consists of four swimmers\, four paddlers\, and four 2-man dory teams. This annual lifeguard event is the most prestigious lifeguard event in the United States. The race is held at night under the spot lights which allows lifeguards to safeguard the beaches during the day and race at night. \nTeams from various lifeguard services from throughout Southern California compete in this event each year. The winning team gets the honor of holding the “Taplin Bell” perpetual trophy until the following year’s race. The individual names of all sixteen team members from the winning team are engraved on the perpetual trophy to mark their place in history. \nIn the evening prior to the Taplin relay\, spectators will be treated to rescue demonstrations\, Jr. Lifeguard relays\, Lifeguard Beach Flags and the Chris Linkletter Women’s Surf Relay. The first event on Saturday night begins at 7:00 pm and the Judge Taplin Relay begins at approximately 9:00 pm \n  \nSunday\, August 7\n7:30 am- Velzy-Stevens Pier-to-Pier Paddleboard Championship – Manhattan Beach Pier\, North Side. \n7:30 am- Sand Castle Design Contest – South side Manhattan Beach Pier. \n9:00 am- California Beach Volleyball – Hermosa Beach Pier. \n9:00 am- Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim – Hermosa Pier to Manhattan Pier\, no Race Day entries. \n \nThe Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim is one of the most popular long distance swims in the United States.  In 2021\, 1141 swimmers completed this grueling two-mile course.  Swimmers enter the water on the south side of the 10th Street Lifeguard Tower (South of the Hermosa Beach Pier).  They swim round the Pier\, parallel to shore then round the Manhattan Beach Pier and finish on the beach. \nThe swim will again be conducted in 3 heats. The first heat\, male swimsuit\, will start at 9:00 am. The second heat\, female swimsuit & wetsuit\, will start at 9:05 am.
