The national holiday is celebrated widely as an extended weekend and opportunity for family and friends to get together. Memorial Day is considered by some as the start of summer while Labor Day\, the first Monday of September\, marks the unofficial start of fall. \nPacific Park celebrates Memorial Day each year with a special light program on the Pacific Wheel with brilliant patterns in red\, white and blue. The nightly program features an animated\, waving American flag. \nThis special light program will run dusk (around 7:30 PM) to midnight on Friday\, May 27 to Monday\, May 30. Drummers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate in this exciting community event. Leimert Park has been a meeting place for the people of Los Angeles for at least since the early 80s. \nThe drum circles feature musical styles from across the African continent\, with local drummers join with others coming from various parts of Africa\, Latin America\, the Caribbean islands. MVP chooses to remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country\, Memorial Day. \nBring your family\, friends\, and loved ones this Memorial Day as we have our annual hike from Santa Monica Pier to West LA VA Cemetary for their Memorial Day Ceremony. We’ll meet at 0630 AM on May 30th\, at 7 AM\, sing the national anthem\, and push out at 0715. We’ll arrive at Los Angeles National Cemetery at 10 AM for the ceremony. \n \nA walk to remember starting at Santa Monica Pier to the Los Angeles National Cemetery.
