To Nature. To Community. To Self.\n\nHOW IT WORKS\n \n8 AM: HIKE \nSet your GPS for La Brea & Don Lorenzo. Meet at the East Trailhead Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area to check-in and meet your Hike Leader! \n  \n \n9 AM: YOGA \nMeet at the 9/11 Memorial Tree at the Bluff (nearby the Burke Roche picnic area/Restrooms) \nThe yoga is fun and BEGINNER-friendly! \nFrequently Asked Questions\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow does this work? \nMeet at 8am at the East Trailhead of Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area\, which is at Don Lorenzo and La Brea. \nIf you intend on meeting for the hike\, route your car to “Don Lorenzo and La Brea.” There is street parking and other park lots nearby. You will need to cross the street and take the steps up to the East Trailhead map sign. \n \nUpon arrival\, each participant signs the liability form and the roster. \nYou will have the choice to join a Hike Leader to have a “respectful-distanced” mindful hike experience\, or you may take a self-guided hike. Your Hike Leader will hold space for introductions and mindful pauses during your hike towards the yoga location. Be prepared to say your name\, where you reside\, and your take on the theme of the week. Themes are announced in the weekly newsletter sent every Wednesday\, subscribe here \n \nA few minutes before 9am\, the hike ends at the Bluff\, where you can find restrooms and water fountains.\nAt 9 am\, we will begin the yoga class. \n \nAfterwards\, we take a photo for social media\, join in with your favorite yoga pose of the day!\nIf you decide to post on social media\, please tag us @HiketoYogaLA! \n \nHow much does this cost? \nThis is a community initiative fueled by donations and volunteer hours. Please share your abundance energy with us through donating to our GoFundMe. 100 percent of your donation goes into making these community events accessible to all participants! \nPlease consider joining our VIP Membership Circle to get a Logo Pin (flash your VIP pin to our sign-in team\, no need to sign in more than once!) and exclusive invitations to members-only events. \n \nWhen I enter “Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area” in my GPS\, why does it give me an address on La Cienega? \nThe La Cienega entrance is the official entrance to the park. There is a $7 cash-only parking fee on the weekends. Enter here\, take the road all the way up\, and park by the Burke Roche picnic area/restrooms if you want to ONLY join the 9am yoga. \n \nWhat kind of trail will the group hike?\nThere are many trails up to the yoga location but we plan to have Hike Leaders for our Signature moderate\, nature-full trail with inclines and declines. The trail will take us to up to the Bluff where there are restrooms and water fountains. This 2021 Season we will be debuting the Hummingbird trail (Park to Playa trail + Bowl loop)\, which is more flat and takes you through a beautiful hummingbird garden. Both hikes will be about 40-45 minutes. \n \nWhat if I only want to do the yoga class\, what is the easiest way to get to yoga at 9 am? \nYou can pay $7 cash for parking\, enter at the La Cienega entrance\, and park right by the Burke Roche picnic area/restrooms. Walk about 2 minutes down the Bluff to the 9/11 Memorial Tree. \n \nWho will be teaching the yoga classes? Will the classes be beginner-friendly? \nWe have an awesome team of Hike to Yoga LA Yoga Teachers\, including Hike to Yoga LA Founder\, Laurie\, who enjoys teaching her signature Yoga Wave Circle!\nOur teacher team is diverse in age and body-type\, and are ready to inspire you with community\, nature and of course\, yoga!\nYoga class is 60 minutes long\, starts promptly at 9 am. Please be on time as it is distracting to join when class has already started. \n \nWhat should I bring?\nYour yoga mat\, yoga towel\, beach towel\, or just do yoga on the earth! (Might be wet from morning dew!) It is advisable that you have a mat strap or backpack since you are responsible for your own mat!\nDon’t forget your own reusable water bottle to stay hydrated; there is a water fountain by the Bluff area. \n \nWhat happens after the Hike to Yoga classes? How do I get back to the meeting point? \nThe Park to Playa trail is flat and should take about 15-20 minutes to get back to the Don Lorenzo and La Brea meeting point. \n\nREGISTER ONLINE FOR FREE TICKETS\n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.HiketoYogaLA.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Net Cruze Coffee and Cars
DESCRIPTION:Net Cruze Cars And Coffee- Westchester\, California\nNet Cruze Cars And Coffee events have been going for decades.  And that was news to me upon my first stop in mid-August. \nBut they’re in a new location.  And it’s kind of tricky in that it’s a huge parking lot behind the 99-cents store in Westchester.  Further\, this is a cool event worth checking out for sure. \nSo cars from the ’30s through ’50s are pretty well represented.  And that’s both originals and customs.  Then\, when I was there\, there was a Corvette Club represented too.  All newer C7s but nicely done as well. \nBut everyone and everything is welcome.  For instance\, there was an older Bronco\, a newer Porsche\, and even a Studebaker on hand. \nAdditionally\, the organizers offered coffee and pastries.  Plus a raffle drawing toward the end that kept everyone on hand for cash prizes\, gas cards\, and even handbags for the ladies. \n\n \n1939 Buick \n\nNet Cruze Cars And Coffee – Westchester\, California\nLocation: 6835 La Tijera Blvd.\nAdmission: Free\nVehicle registration: Free \n  \nHours\n2nd and 4th Saturdays: 9:00am – 12:00pm \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.idrivesocal.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:The Venice Run Club
DESCRIPTION:EVERY WEEK\, EVERY RUN\, EVERY BODY- Santa Monica & Venice\nThe Venice Run Club is the heartbeat of Venice. A community of runners here to better ourselves and our community. Come run with us. \n48 for Change\nWith the combination of a global pandemic and civil unrest around racial injustice\, June of 2020 set the stage for important societal and human issues to finally come to light in a more permanent way. This was the same time that two friends\, Justin and Tyler\, decided they wanted to take action to make a difference in the injustices and inequality we see in our communities. \n  \n\n\n\nThe week of George Floyd’s passing\, Justin called Tyler voicing his frustration from Floyd’s murder and subsequent reactions\, and they joined forces to do a running challenge that very weekend that entailed running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. A GoFundMe was set up to collect funds from friends and family throughout the running challenge to donate to help support racial justice. \nWhat started as a way to take the mind off of the pressure cooker of injustice resulted in a massively successful and attention-grabbing fundraiser\, and eventually turned into a 501(c)3 nonprofit\, still strong and growing today: 48 For Change. \nAside from fundraising and donating\, Justin found that the community that gathered to run that weekend was something special\, and needed its own spotlight. A place where anyone can come and simply run with a group of good people. Venice Run Club was born. \nNearly two years later\, we have grown into a strong group of 200+ runners\, given back $100\,000 and over 1\,100lbs of clothing to the LA community\, guided over 40 runners to completing their first marathon\, and become On’s first-ever sponsored run club in America. \nCome make friends\, break a sweat\, and get to know the city in the best way possible: by running its streets. \n\n\n\n  \n\nWeekly Run Schedule\n\n\n\n\n\nTrack Tuesday- 7:30PM\n\nSanta Monica High School- 601 Pico Blvd\, Santa Monica\, CA 90405 \n\n\n\n\n\nMobbin Wednesday- 6:30 pm\n\nParking lot – 2050 Dell Avenue\, Venice\, CA\, 90291 \n\n\n\n\n\nLong Run Saturday- 8:30 am\n\nThe Kinney Hotel- 737 Washington Blvd Venice\, CA 90292 \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://venicerunclub.co/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Ramona Museum of California History
DESCRIPTION:EVERY SATURDAY – San Gabriel\nExperience the rich history of California at the Ramona Museum of California History! This free community museum offers a unique and personal look into the state’s past with a vast collection of artifacts donated by members dating back to 1887. Explore and learn in a fun and educational way\, perfect for a fun afternoon adventure. Don’t miss out on this must-visit destination for anyone interested in the Golden State’s fascinating history. Visit the Ramona Museum of California History today and step back in time! \n \nRamona Parlor was organized by a small group of men in their early twenties and met once a week in the historic Patriotic Hall on Figueroa Street in Los Angeles. In its heyday\, the group boasted over 1200 members and was considered one of the most influential organizations in southern California. Senator Stephen M. White\, Los Angeles Mayor Fred Eaton\, and Ex-President Richard M. Nixon were all members of Ramona Parlor #109. \n  \n \nThe Museum is located on Mission Drive\, opposite the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse in the heart of the Mission District\, and houses a number of fascinating artifacts from California’s colorful history. \n  \n \nOur Mission\nFriendship\, Loyalty\, and Charity \nThis is the motto of the Native Sons of the Golden West\, a statewide fraternal organization of native Californians committed to preserving and promoting the history of the Golden State. \nEstablished in 1885\, the NSGW landmarks historic features and buildings as part of its mission.  The organization also raises funds for Cleft Palate\, the fourth greatest malady affecting children in California. \nRamona Parlor #109 is just one of the hundreds of parlors throughout the state.  It is the only parlor that owns and operates its own California history museum.  The Ramona Museum of California History is in the heart of the San Gabriel Mission District and is open every Saturday from 1-3 pm. \n  \n \nRamona Parlor #109\nRamona Parlor #109 is one of hundreds of parlors throughout the state of California. It is a lively group that meets once a month on the second Thursday in the Ramona Meeting Room behind the Museum on Mission Drive. Ramona Parlor is the only one that owns and operates its California history museum.  The Ramona Museum of California History is in the heart of the San Gabriel Mission District and is open every Saturday from 1-3 pm.  Tours may be arranged by appointment. \nRamona Parlor hosts many events throughout the year.  An Annual Cleft palate Golf Tournament\, a Casino Turnaround\, A Day at the Races\, and historical outings and dedications are just some of the activities held throughout the year. \n  \n \nNative Sons of the Golden West\nWe must go back in history to the California Gold Rush\, which was one of the unmatched marvels of American history. In 1848\, California was a tranquil wilderness where the population density was so low that\, on average\, only one human being dwelt per every 528 square miles. But after President James K. Polk made the official announcement on Dec. 5\, 1848\, that gold had been discovered\, things ramped up very quickly. \nGold seekers (mostly young men) came in droves from all corners of the earth. Within a short time\, 100\,000 people were living in California. They were industrious\, civic-minded people. They held a Constitutional Convention and activated a state government on Dec. 20\, 1849. They acted so rapidly that it took Congress almost a year to catch up. Partially because California was not officially declared a state until Sept. 9\, 1850. \nIt was an unparalleled phenomenon. No other American state has been organized in such “can-do” circumstances. But by the mid-1870s\, many more new residents were flooding into California. \nThey were Civil War veterans seeking grants of public lands. Some people could enjoy the convenient transportation of the newly completed transcontinental railroad. \n \nOld-timers shook their heads and worried that\, with the nature of the population changing so rapidly. That it was only a matter of time before the colorful history of the Gold Rush and early-day statehood soon would be forgotten and neglected. So they hit upon an idea. Why not form an organization of men who had been BORN in California? Whose mission it would be to preserve the state’s history. \nAnd that’s exactly what happened\, causing the Native Sons of the Golden West to be formed on July 11\, 1875. \nHours\nEvery Saturday: 1:00 pm – 3:00 am \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.ramonaparlor.org/home\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:In Performance: ‘Our name is Moving’ by Poncili Creación
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for ‘Our name is Moving’ an audiovisual poem by mystifying Puerto-Rican collective Poncili Creación.\n\n\nOn the occasion of ‘Nonmemory’\, an exhibition curated by Jay Ezra Nayssan and organized in collaboration with the Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts\, The Performance Project at Hauser & Wirth and Del Vaz Projects are thrilled to present ‘Our name is Moving’ an audiovisual poem by mystifying Puerto-Rican collective Poncili Creación. \nExpanding on artist Mike Kelley’s interests in the complex relationship between space\, memory and identity\, Poncili Creación’s ‘Our name is Moving’ will project physical and psychological angst into an imaginary landscape realized within a site-specific performance at Hauser & Wirth’s East Gallery. The imaginative world of Poncili Creación will overtake an ecosystem of moveable architectures and inhabitants to depict displacement\, colonization\, destruction and growth as an attempt to break through frontiers and champion freedom. \nThe performance will showcase a live improvised musical score\, audience interaction\, machines disguised as puppets\, and the magic of raw human power. \nThis event is free\, however\, reservations are required. \nTake part in a creative workshop led by Poncili Creación on 28 – 29 October. Click here to learn more. \n \nAbout Mike Kelly \nMike Kelley is widely considered one of the most influential artists of our time. Originally from a suburb outside of Detroit\, Kelley attended the University of Michigan\, Ann Arbor\, before moving to Southern California in 1976 to study at California Institute of the Arts from which he received an MFA in 1978.  The city of Los Angeles became his adopted home and the site of his prolific art practice. In much of his work\, Kelley drew from a wide spectrum of high and low culture and was known to scour flea markets for America’s cast-offs and leftovers. Mining the banal objects of everyday life\, Kelley elevated these materials to question and dismantle Western conceptions of contemporary art and culture. \n \nAbout Mike Kelly Foundation for the Arts \nThe Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts advances the artist’s spirit of critical thinking\, risk taking\, and provocation in the arts. Established by Kelley in 2007\, the Foundation seeks to further Kelley’s philanthropic work through grants to arts organizations and artists for innovative projects that reflect his multifaceted artistic practice. The Foundation also preserves the artist’s legacy more broadly and fosters the understanding of his life and creative achievements through educational initiatives including exhibitions\, educational events\, publications and the preservation and care of the Foundation’s art collections and archives. \n \nAbout Nonmemory \nCurated by Jay Ezra Nayssan\, ‘Nonmemory’ brings together six seminal works by Mike Kelley and a group of seven contemporary artists – Kelly Akashi\, Meriem Bennani\, Beatriz Cortez\, Raúl de Nieves\, Olivia Erlanger\, Max Hooper Schneider\, Lauren Halsey – whose works all play with the role of memory as it posits our perceptions of space and place. Through a variety of media and material\, the artists in this exhibition use space as the repository for dreams\, fantasies\, traumas\, and anxieties\, while offering opportunities to re-imagine and recreate reality. The title of the exhibition ‘Nonmemory\,’ takes direct inspiration from Kelley’s use of the term\, a way of treating\, reordering\, and representing the complex and unstable relationship between memory\, space\, and identity. \n \nAbout Poncili Creación \nPoncili Creación lives and breathes through their soft sculptures often called puppets but previously called garbage. Repurposed material and raw human power gather in their signature audiovisual pieces which include vibrant colors\, bodily movements\, and a wide range of emotions that delight\, scare and surprise the inner child across this globe. With thousands of collaborators and ten years of touring internationally\, their shows remain shrouded in mystery and are usually announced only a few days in advance. From museums to basements\, galleries to toilets\, biennials to backyards\, Poncili executes unorthodox TED talks disguised as puppet shows championing creativity as a means to break reality. \n \nAbout The Performance Project \nEncompassing performance\, music\, dance and film\, The Performance Project showcases performing arts visionaries\, both local and global\, with a special focus on greater visibility for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ voices. \n \nAbout Del Vaz Projects \nFounded in 2014 by Jay Ezra Nayssan\, Del Vaz Projects is an arts nonprofit based in Los Angeles\, California. Beginning as an alternative exhibition space located in Nayssan’s home\, Del Vaz Projects has expanded over the last decade into a curatorial platform\, independent press\, and artist production fund. In addition to the on-site projects at Del Vaz Projects\, Nayssan has organized exhibitions and programming for galleries and institutions\, including this year’s inaugural series of off-site projects at Frieze Los Angeles. \n \n*By submitting your email address\, you consent to receive our Newsletter. SUMMARY:The Venice Oceanarium
DESCRIPTION:SUNDAYS- Venice Beach Pier\nVenice Oceanarium EVERY SUNDAY\, 11am – 2pm. @ Venice Pier. A Museum without Walls teaches kids about Marine Biology & the Santa Monica Bay!  \nOur oceanographic display includes rare specimens\, shark jaws\, and historical artifacts. Be a Citizen Scientist and help us gather ocean data from our water testing kits. Observe grains of sand and seawater samples under our microscopes. Read ocean-inspired poetry\, draw\, and learn about the sea life just beneath the pier. We have new enlightening programs every week. \nThe pier juts 1000 feet out over the open sea\, with saltwater breezes and spectacular coastline views! Besides our marine specimens\, you’ll see migratory birds perched on the pilings\, dolphins\, interesting catches reeled in\, and local surfer species. \n \nThe Venice Oceanarium is a non-profit based in Venice Beach\, California. Just steps away from the world-famous Venice Boardwalk\, there are ecosystems teeming with wildlife waiting to be explored. Since 1995\, countless people have enjoyed our outdoor classrooms through hands-on learning. \nOUR MISSION is to ignite a passion for the abundance\, diversity\, and significance of the web of life in our ocean and its shores. The Venice Oceanarium emphasizes the powerful and enduring emotional and aesthetic influences of the oceans on human culture. \nOUR VISION is to build a permanent exhibit on the Venice Pier that educates and inspires visitors about the unique and wondrous life forms in our local ocean. \n\nAbout Venice Oceanarium\nBack in 1995 our founder\, Tim Rudnick\, organized a weekend-long marathon reading of Moby-Dick at the Venice Beach breakwater. Reliving life aboard a whaling ship and Melville’s soul-searching journey while the group huddled for warmth on the sand was a transformative experience. Tim realized the importance of learning outside of the traditional classroom and founded the Venice Oceanarium\, a Museum Without Walls. \n \nThis concept of blending the arts and sciences is the core of our programming. We believe that our integrative curriculum inspires kids of all ages to be stewards of our precious oceans. \nOver the years we’ve expanded our outreach to include our highly anticipated annual grunion party\, weekly Marine Biology pop-up labs at the end of the Venice Pier\, classes at local schools and youth centers\, tidepool talks\, wetland walks\, and other excursions. \nVenice Beach: An Urban Coastal Park\n \nVenice Beach is a wonderful juxtaposition of urban life and natural wonder. Just steps from the world-famous Venice Beach Boardwalk’s street artists and performers are miles of beautiful shoreline to explore. Wide sandy beaches\, crashing waves\, shells\, seaweed\, birds\, and other wildlife coexist with surfers\, sunbathers\, and sandcastles. \nThe tidepools at the Venice Beach Breakwater are teeming with wildlife (to be enjoyed with your eyes only) as the iconic and colorful Venice graffiti walls loom in the background. There’s a secret reef\, and beautiful wetlands\, and on a clear day\, you can see Malibu and Catalina Island. \nMillions of locals and visitors enjoy our beaches. Few stop to really appreciate the rare treasures it has to offer. Our mission is to excite\, engage and inspire kids of all ages to appreciate our unique urban coast. \nExperiential Learning\n \nThe Venice Oceanarium is a Museum Without Walls. Our programs combine science with the arts to encourage kids (of all ages) to appreciate the environment and therefore become stewards of our oceans. We believe that this integrative curriculum of poetry\, literature\, music\, drawing\, and performance arts teaches by experiencing the world around us on a more profound level than books and classrooms alone provide. \nWe design our events and activities to raise awareness of the natural wonders of Venice Beach. Join us on our learning expedition! \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.veniceoceanarium.org/programs\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

The museum’s mission is to further intercultural understanding through the arts of Asia and the Pacific Islands. \nThe museum’s historic building has served as a center for art\, culture\, and learning in Pasadena since its construction in 1924 by pioneering collector and entrepreneur Grace Nicholson (1877-1948) as her residence\, galleries\, and Treasure House/emporium. Ms. Nicholson’s championing of Asian art early in the century set the tone for much of the Pasadena community’s arts-related activities during the ensuing decades. The building also served as the site of the Pasadena Art Museum\, which was renowned for its groundbreaking exhibitions of contemporary art. Pacific Asia Museum combined the spirits of both its predecessors in its focus on the classic and contemporary arts of Asia and the Pacific Islands. In 2013\, the University of Southern California partnered with the museum to form USC Pacific Asia Museum. The affiliation broadened the community that benefits from the museum’s role as a vital resource for education and cultural heritage and expanded the audience’s interest in a dialogue about art\, history\, and culture. \n \nVISION\nUSC PAM is a dynamic and innovative teaching and learning resource for USC and its surrounding communities featuring; \n\nExhibitions that contest worn assumptions\, bridge perspectives\, and expand understanding\nEducational opportunities that connect cultures\, disciplines\, and generations\nPrograms that engage our common life\, even in the absence of common ground\n\nVALUES\nAt USC PAM we believe in the power of art to connect us to our deepest humanity and that of others. \nAs such\, we: \n\nSupport the Mission and Vision of USC.\nEnlist art to expand understanding and bridge divides.\nCollect and exhibit exemplary works that amplify artist voices and lift up community narratives.\nSteward the objects entrusted to our care for the benefit of successive generations.\nUse our resources to inspire a plurality of audiences.\nFoster a sense of community both on and off-campus.\nExplore and validate diversity.\nPromote civil and civic discourse.\nSecure long-term sustainability.\nManage resources prudently.\n\n\nHours\nMonday-Tuesday: Closed\nWednesday – Sunday: 11:00am – 5:00pm \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \npacificasiamuseum.usc.edu/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
