You will need to cross the street and take the steps up to the East Trailhead map sign. \n \nUpon arrival\, each participant signs the liability form and the roster. \nYou will have the choice to join a Hike Leader to have a “respectful-distanced” mindful hike experience\, or you may take a self-guided hike. Your Hike Leader will hold space for introductions and mindful pauses during your hike towards the yoga location. Be prepared to say your name\, where you reside\, and your take on the theme of the week. Themes are announced in the weekly newsletter sent every Wednesday\, subscribe here \n \nA few minutes before 9am\, the hike ends at the Bluff\, where you can find restrooms and water fountains.\nAt 9 am\, we will begin the yoga class. \n \nAfterwards\, we take a photo for social media\, join in with your favorite yoga pose of the day!\nIf you decide to post on social media\, please tag us @HiketoYogaLA! \n \nHow much does this cost? \nThis is a community initiative fueled by donations and volunteer hours. Please share your abundance energy with us through donating to our GoFundMe. 100 percent of your donation goes into making these community events accessible to all participants! \nPlease consider joining our VIP Membership Circle to get a Logo Pin (flash your VIP pin to our sign-in team\, no need to sign in more than once!) and exclusive invitations to members-only events. \n \nWhen I enter “Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area” in my GPS\, why does it give me an address on La Cienega? \nThe La Cienega entrance is the official entrance to the park. There is a $7 cash-only parking fee on the weekends. Enter here\, take the road all the way up\, and park by the Burke Roche picnic area/restrooms if you want to ONLY join the 9am yoga. \n \nWhat kind of trail will the group hike?\nThere are many trails up to the yoga location but we plan to have Hike Leaders for our Signature moderate\, nature-full trail with inclines and declines. The trail will take us to up to the Bluff where there are restrooms and water fountains. This 2021 Season we will be debuting the Hummingbird trail (Park to Playa trail + Bowl loop)\, which is more flat and takes you through a beautiful hummingbird garden. Both hikes will be about 40-45 minutes. \n \nWhat if I only want to do the yoga class\, what is the easiest way to get to yoga at 9 am? \nYou can pay $7 cash for parking\, enter at the La Cienega entrance\, and park right by the Burke Roche picnic area/restrooms. Walk about 2 minutes down the Bluff to the 9/11 Memorial Tree. \n \nWho will be teaching the yoga classes? Will the classes be beginner-friendly? \nWe have an awesome team of Hike to Yoga LA Yoga Teachers\, including Hike to Yoga LA Founder\, Laurie\, who enjoys teaching her signature Yoga Wave Circle!\nOur teacher team is diverse in age and body-type\, and are ready to inspire you with community\, nature and of course\, yoga!\nYoga class is 60 minutes long\, starts promptly at 9 am. (Might be wet from morning dew!) It is advisable that you have a mat strap or backpack since you are responsible for your own mat!\nDon’t forget your own reusable water bottle to stay hydrated; there is a water fountain by the Bluff area. \n \nWhat happens after the Hike to Yoga classes? SUMMARY:Net Cruze Coffee and Cars
DESCRIPTION:Net Cruze Cars And Coffee- Westchester\, California\nNet Cruze Cars And Coffee events have been going for decades.  And that was news to me upon my first stop in mid-August. \nBut they’re in a new location.  And it’s kind of tricky in that it’s a huge parking lot behind the 99-cents store in Westchester.  Further\, this is a cool event worth checking out for sure. \nSo cars from the ’30s through ’50s are pretty well represented.  And that’s both originals and customs.  Then\, when I was there\, there was a Corvette Club represented too.  All newer C7s but nicely done as well. \nBut everyone and everything is welcome.  For instance\, there was an older Bronco\, a newer Porsche\, and even a Studebaker on hand. \nAdditionally\, the organizers offered coffee and pastries.  Plus a raffle drawing toward the end that kept everyone on hand for cash prizes\, gas cards\, and even handbags for the ladies. \n\n \n1939 Buick \n\nNet Cruze Cars And Coffee – Westchester\, California\nLocation: 6835 La Tijera Blvd.\nAdmission: Free\nVehicle registration: Free \n  \nHours\n2nd and 4th Saturdays: 9:00am – 12:00pm \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.idrivesocal.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:THIS IS NOT AMERICA'S FLAG
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL EXHIBITION AT THE BROAD: MAY 21 – SEPTEMBER 25\, 2022\nFeaturing over twenty artists\, the special exhibition This Is Not America’s Flag spotlights the myriad ways artists explore the symbol of the flag of the United States of America\, underscoring its vast\, divergent\, and complex meanings. \nTitled after Alfredo Jaar’s iconic 1987 work\, A Logo for America\, This Is Not America’s Flag provides a critical discourse on the symbol’s meaning\, the complexity and contradictions of contemporary national identity\, and artists as active citizens. \nThe exhibition was developed conceptually in the summer of 2020 during the groundswell of activism for racial justice in the wake of the murders of George Floyd\, Ahmaud Arbery\, and Breonna Taylor and was inspired by two works in the Broad collection\, Flag (1967) by Jasper Johns and African-American Flag (1990) by David Hammons. \nThis Is Not America’s Flag presents works from over twenty artists including Laura Aguilar\, Nicole Eisenman\, Jeffrey Gibson\, Jaar\, and Johns\, as well as African-American Flag (1990) by Hammons acquired by The Broad in 2019 and America (2021) by Hank Willis Thomas\, acquired last year. The exhibition includes works that both embrace the flag as the signifier of the nation and its ideals and subvert it to express injustices and inequities woven into the fabric of the U.S.\, past\, and present. \n\nHighlighted Artwork\nAmerica\nHank Willis Thomas\n2021\nMixed media including US flags\n \n  \nAfrican-American Flag\n\nDavid Hammons\n\n\n1990\n\n\ndyed cotton\n\n\n59 x 92 1/4 in. It offers free general admission to its permanent collection galleries. \n\nFree Access\nTimes and days for free access to these exhibitions will be announced. \nSame-Day Tickets\nInstead of offering a standby line for walk-up entry\, additional tickets will be released daily every evening for admission the next day. \nMuseum Policies\n\nMasks are strongly recommended indoors.\nOur coat and bag check is currently closed. SUMMARY:FOWLER MUSEUM: How Do You See This World?
DESCRIPTION:NOW AND EXTENDED THROUGH NOVEMBER 20- Westwood Village\, UCLA\nThe Fowler Museum at UCLA presents\n‘How Do You See This World?’: The Art Of Almighty God\n \n‘How Do You See This World?’ is a retrospective of paintings by the prolific Ghanaian artist Kwame Akoto (b. 1950). Addressed as “Almighty” by friends and acquaintances\, Akoto is the owner of Almighty God Art Works in the city of Kumasi\, the capital of the Asante kingdom. His studio\, established in 1972\, produced signs for small businesses\, cloth banners for evangelical events\, and tin portraits for grave monuments. As the market for such works shrank\, Akoto turned his attention to another part of his practice\, which he calls “creativity arts”—the focus of the current exhibition. These pictures are produced largely for an international clientele and range in subjects from portraiture to Christian themes to commentaries on the world’s problems. Almighty continued to apply his sign-writing skills in the form of extensive texts added to his paintings and their frames. Nearly every piece in the exhibition combines image and text\, an interplay characteristic of Akan arts of southern Ghana. The universe of themes in Almighty’s repertoire continues to expand as he widens the scope of his commentaries on the human condition. His recognition has also grown: since 1995\, he has been included in at least thirty exhibitions of contemporary African art outside of Ghana: in Italy\, Poland\, Netherlands\, France\, Denmark\, Portugal\, and the U.S. His works are held in museums and private collections worldwide. \n  \n\n\n308 Charles E. Young Dr N\, Los Angeles\, CA 90024 \n\nFREE EVERY DAY! @ UCLA\nThe Fowler Museum at UCLA explores global arts and cultures with an emphasis on works from Africa\, Asia\, the Pacific\, and the Americas—past\, and present. The Fowler enhances understanding and appreciation of the diverse peoples\, cultures\, and religions of the world through dynamic exhibitions\, publications\, and public programs\, informed by interdisciplinary approaches and the perspectives of the cultures represented. \nAlso featured is the work of international contemporary artists presented within the complex frameworks of politics\, culture\, and social action. \nFowler Museum at UCLA provides exciting\, informative\, and thought-provoking exhibitions and events for the UCLA community and the people of greater Los Angeles and beyond. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAreas of the Collection\n\n\n\n\nARTS OF AFRICA AND THE AFRICAN DIASPORA\n \nOne of the largest and finest in the United States\, and one of the top twenty African collections worldwide\, this collection offers a superb representation of the arts of many African nations\, including objects from Senegal\, Nigeria\, Ghana\, Cameroon\, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire)\, Kenya\, Zambia\, and South Africa. The Yoruba collection alone is one of the three finest in the world. It contains a spectacular array of beaded objects\, including a majestic throne\, elaborate chiefly gowns and sophisticated divination regalia. \nA collection of post-apartheid election materials and contemporary South African art is being developed\, as are a number of collections of popular urban arts from countries including Tanzania and Muslim Senegal. Recently\, more than 400 textiles made by the Kuba peoples of the Democratic Republic of the Congo were gifted by the Christensen Foundation. \nThe collection represents some of the finest examples of men’s embroidered raffia pile cloths and women’s appliqué cloths. This collection complements already significant holdings of West African textiles from countries such as Mali and Ghana\, including kente and adinkra cloth and Asafo flags. The museum also has significant holdings of arts from the African Americas\, and notable arts from Haitian Vodou\, Brazil\, and Suriname. \n\n\n\nARTS OF THE AMERICAS\n\n\n \nThese holdings include a comprehensive collection of pre-Columbian ceramics with the best representations from West Mexico\, the Valley of Mexico\, and pre-Columbian Peru (with special strengths in the art of the Moche). The Fowler also possesses a cohesive collection of Guatemalan costumes; an extensive collection of Mexican clothing; textiles of Peru; and a comprehensive representation of field-collected market materials from Michoacan\, Mexico. Complementing the pre-Columbian collections are field collections of the Warao and Yecuana Indians of the Orinoco Delta of Venezuela and contemporary Latin American popular arts including Mexican trees of life\, Day of the Dead figures\, and masks from Metepec\, Oaxaca\, Michoacan\, Jalisco\, Puebla\, and Guanajuato. \nNative American materials from the U.S. and Canada are a small but significant part of the collection. Materials from the United States and Canada include well-known Northwest Coast material\, as well as a notable cross section of late nineteenth-century Inuit art and material culture. \n\n\n\nARTS OF ASIA AND THE PACIFIC\n\n\n \nThe Fowler Museum at UCLA collections from Insular Southeast Asia\, including Indonesia\, the Philippines\, Malaysia\, and aboriginal Taiwan\, are among the strongest in the United States. The Indonesian and Philippine textiles reinforce the Fowler Museum’s standing as a major repository for the textile arts. Also included are significant collections of sculptural material from Sumatra\, Borneo\, Sulawesi\, and Luzon\, puppetry from Java and Bali\, basketry from Indonesia and the Philippines\, and metalwork from the Philippines. The primary strength of the Pacific collections lies in materials from Papua New Guinea\, especially the Papuan Gulf\, Trobriand Islands\, Sepik River\, and Maprik region. Australia and Polynesia are also represented by sizeable collections\, including 45 rare Maori cloaks. \nThe collections from mainland Asia are smaller but growing rapidly\, due to current collecting priorities. A collection of betel-chewing paraphernalia\, representing several countries in South and Southeast Asia\, is considered one of the finest in the world. Other holdings include textiles from Bhutan\, Pakistan\, India\, and Japan\, baskets and decorative arts from Japan\, puppetry from China\, Thailand\, India\, and Turkey\, and art and artifacts from Nepal. \n\n\n\nARCHAEOLOGICAL COLLECTIONS\n\n\n \nThe Fowler Museum at UCLA also serves as a repository for archaeological collections acquired during research conducted by UCLA faculty\, staff\, students\, and other professional archaeologists. Documentation of the collections includes artifact catalogs\, excavation notes\, maps\, and photographs. These collections serve primarily as an archive for teaching and research. The Museum is compliant with guidelines mandated by the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and has been signaled out by the State of California for its exemplary efforts. \nArchaeological collection areas include: \nCalifornia \nCollections from approximately 1100 sites\, mostly in Southern California. \nSouthwest \nSignificant collections from the Rainbow Bridge-Monument Valley Expedition of 1933-1938 and several Parowan Fremont sites in Utah were excavated in the 1950s\, and other Anasazi and Hohokam sites. \nMexico \nIncludes objects from 218 sites\, mostly in western and central Mexico. \nSudan \nThe Nubian/Egyptian fortress site at Askut is the source of approximately 60\,000 artifacts excavated by UCLA archaeologist Alexander Badawy in conjunction with the Aswan High Dam Salvage Campaign\, 1962-1964. \nOld World stone tool collection \nIncludes tools from Europe and the Middle East. \n\n\nMUSEUM HOURS\n\nAdmission is FREE \nMonday – Tuesday: closed\nWednesday – Sunday: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm \n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nfowler.ucla.edu\n \n\n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:911 Memorial Display
DESCRIPTION:PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY- PCH\, Malibu\n\n\n\nThe Pepperdine University Waves of Flags display commemorate the lives lost in the terror attacks on September 11\, 2001\, at Alumni Park on the Malibu campus. \nWaves of Flags commemorates the 2\,977 lives lost in the September 11 terror attacks and features a vast display of American flags for each American life lost as well as international flags representing the home countries of those from abroad. Made possible through the support of donors this year\, the installation will be on display at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu Canyon Road \n“Pepperdine has a long tradition of honoring those who have gone before us\,” said Pepperdine president Jim Gash (JD ’93). “For nearly two decades\, this community has paused on this day each year to remember\, to grieve\, and to celebrate the lives of those we lost on that day in 2001.” \nWaves of Flags became a University tradition in 2008 when the Pepperdine College Republicans\, inspired by a similar display\, wanted to bring the tribute to the University. For more than a decade\, it has been a significant project that has united the Pepperdine\, Malibu\, and Greater Los Angeles communities in service. Due to the pandemic\, the installation of the flags\, which is typically led by Pepperdine community members and volunteers from the Malibu community\, was executed by the University this year in consideration of the safety of local and surrounding communities. \nIn addition to the Waves of Flags installation\, Pepperdine is the permanent home of the Thomas E. Burnett\, Jr.\, Heroes Garden\, a place to honor all those who live heroic lives\, including Pepperdine alumnus Thomas E. Burnett\, Jr. (MBA ’95)\, a passenger on United Flight 93\, whose life was cut short in the September 11 attacks. The garden’s plaque reads: “Dedicated to freedom’s heroes of September 11\, 2001\, and the passengers of United Airlines Flight 93\, among them Pepperdine alumnus Thomas E. Burnett\, Jr.\, who sacrificed their lives to overcome terrorists’ intent on destroying American lives and landmarks in our nation’s capital. We shall never forget.” Heroes Garden is currently closed to the public\, along with the rest of the Pepperdine campus. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nA service to honor those who perished in the historic tragedy\, is traditionally held each year\, on September 11. Check with the Pepperdine website below for more details about this year’s 911 Memorial Services. \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \npepperdine.edu/waves-flags-display/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

Our story is one of ingenuity\, personal redemption\, and a passion for giving back. Sam Douek struggled in school for most of his formative years. He had a difficult time focusing in the classroom\, which left him with low self-esteem. After leaving his high school at the end of ninth grade\, ready to give up\, Sam got a fresh start at the Jewish Educational Trade School\, otherwise known as JETS. At JETS\, the primary focus is to develop each boy’s marketable skills\, with an emphasis on entrepreneurialism and vocation\, resulting in the development of self-esteem and the inherent self-worth of every individual. \nToday the market has expanded to locations in Seattle and Hartford\, with additional locations opening in Chicago\, Santa Barbara\, and San Diego! Sam’s life’s mission is fulfilled each time the Market operates. He is thrilled at the opportunity to give small business owners the ability to provide for their families while doing the work they love. And he is so gratified to be able to give back to JETS by teaching and mentoring their students. In Sam’s words\, “I want people to have fun\, and when it benefits so many\, there’s an added dimension of pleasure and wonder!” \nMission Statement\nOur mission is simple! \nWe want small business owners to succeed! Our greatest joy is when our vendors sell out of the wares they bring. This means they can support their families and create more wonderful products to share. \nOur market is a happy place! There’s a feeling of caring\, sharing\, and giving. We regularly host animal shelters looking for pet adoptions\, and host giveaways for the homeless and needy. \nWe seek to serve local communities by ensuring our markets are sustainable. Health insurance providers\, loan officers\, general bankers\, and others are invited to share resources of information pertaining to home loans\, health insurance coverage\, and whichever information may be of significant assistance to our patrons. \nOur market-goers appreciate the valuable products we bring together and share in our mission of supporting small businesses and local communities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nccartisansmarket.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:The Venice Oceanarium
DESCRIPTION:SUNDAYS- Venice Beach Pier\nVenice Oceanarium EVERY SUNDAY\, 11am – 2pm. @ Venice Pier. A Museum without Walls teaches kids about Marine Biology & the Santa Monica Bay!  \nOur oceanographic display includes rare specimens\, shark jaws\, and historical artifacts. Be a Citizen Scientist and help us gather ocean data from our water testing kits. Observe grains of sand and seawater samples under our microscopes. Read ocean-inspired poetry\, draw\, and learn about the sea life just beneath the pier. We have new enlightening programs every week. \nThe pier juts 1000 feet out over the open sea\, with saltwater breezes and spectacular coastline views! Besides our marine specimens\, you’ll see migratory birds perched on the pilings\, dolphins\, interesting catches reeled in\, and local surfer species. \n \nThe Venice Oceanarium is a non-profit based in Venice Beach\, California. Just steps away from the world-famous Venice Boardwalk\, there are ecosystems teeming with wildlife waiting to be explored. Since 1995\, countless people have enjoyed our outdoor classrooms through hands-on learning. \nOUR MISSION is to ignite a passion for the abundance\, diversity\, and significance of the web of life in our ocean and its shores. The Venice Oceanarium emphasizes the powerful and enduring emotional and aesthetic influences of the oceans on human culture. \nOUR VISION is to build a permanent exhibit on the Venice Pier that educates and inspires visitors about the unique and wondrous life forms in our local ocean. \n\nAbout Venice Oceanarium\nBack in 1995 our founder\, Tim Rudnick\, organized a weekend-long marathon reading of Moby-Dick at the Venice Beach breakwater. Reliving life aboard a whaling ship and Melville’s soul-searching journey while the group huddled for warmth on the sand was a transformative experience. Tim realized the importance of learning outside of the traditional classroom and founded the Venice Oceanarium\, a Museum Without Walls. \n \nThis concept of blending the arts and sciences is the core of our programming. We believe that our integrative curriculum inspires kids of all ages to be stewards of our precious oceans. \nOver the years we’ve expanded our outreach to include our highly anticipated annual grunion party\, weekly Marine Biology pop-up labs at the end of the Venice Pier\, classes at local schools and youth centers\, tidepool talks\, wetland walks\, and other excursions. \nVenice Beach: An Urban Coastal Park\n \nVenice Beach is a wonderful juxtaposition of urban life and natural wonder. Just steps from the world-famous Venice Beach Boardwalk’s street artists and performers are miles of beautiful shoreline to explore. Wide sandy beaches\, crashing waves\, shells\, seaweed\, birds\, and other wildlife coexist with surfers\, sunbathers\, and sandcastles. \nThe tidepools at the Venice Beach Breakwater are teeming with wildlife (to be enjoyed with your eyes only) as the iconic and colorful Venice graffiti walls loom in the background. There’s a secret reef\, and beautiful wetlands\, and on a clear day\, you can see Malibu and Catalina Island. \nMillions of locals and visitors enjoy our beaches. Few stop to really appreciate the rare treasures it has to offer. Our mission is to excite\, engage and inspire kids of all ages to appreciate our unique urban coast. \nExperiential Learning\n \nThe Venice Oceanarium is a Museum Without Walls. Our programs combine science with the arts to encourage kids (of all ages) to appreciate the environment and therefore become stewards of our oceans. We believe that this integrative curriculum of poetry\, literature\, music\, drawing\, and performance arts teaches by experiencing the world around us on a more profound level than books and classrooms alone provide. \nWe design our events and activities to raise awareness of the natural wonders of Venice Beach. Join us on our learning expedition! \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.veniceoceanarium.org/programs\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

The museum’s mission is to further intercultural understanding through the arts of Asia and the Pacific Islands. \nThe museum’s historic building has served as a center for art\, culture\, and learning in Pasadena since its construction in 1924 by pioneering collector and entrepreneur Grace Nicholson (1877-1948) as her residence\, galleries\, and Treasure House/emporium. Ms. Nicholson’s championing of Asian art early in the century set the tone for much of the Pasadena community’s arts-related activities during the ensuing decades. The building also served as the site of the Pasadena Art Museum\, which was renowned for its groundbreaking exhibitions of contemporary art. Pacific Asia Museum combined the spirits of both its predecessors in its focus on the classic and contemporary arts of Asia and the Pacific Islands. In 2013\, the University of Southern California partnered with the museum to form USC Pacific Asia Museum. The affiliation broadened the community that benefits from the museum’s role as a vital resource for education and cultural heritage and expanded the audience’s interest in a dialogue about art\, history\, and culture. \n \nVISION\nUSC PAM is a dynamic and innovative teaching and learning resource for USC and its surrounding communities featuring; \n\nExhibitions that contest worn assumptions\, bridge perspectives\, and expand understanding\nEducational opportunities that connect cultures\, disciplines\, and generations\nPrograms that engage our common life\, even in the absence of common ground\n\nVALUES\nAt USC PAM we believe in the power of art to connect us to our deepest humanity and that of others. \nAs such\, we: \n\nSupport the Mission and Vision of USC.\nEnlist art to expand understanding and bridge divides.\nCollect and exhibit exemplary works that amplify artist voices and lift up community narratives.\nSteward the objects entrusted to our care for the benefit of successive generations.\nUse our resources to inspire a plurality of audiences.\nFoster a sense of community both on and off-campus.\nExplore and validate diversity.\nPromote civil and civic discourse.\nSecure long-term sustainability.\nManage resources prudently.\n\n\nHours\nMonday-Tuesday: Closed\nWednesday – Sunday: 11:00am – 5:00pm \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \npacificasiamuseum.usc.edu/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
