Sunset Blvd West Hollywood\, CA 90069 \nAs long as there has been a Los Angeles rock scene\, there has been the Whisky A Go-Go. An anchor on the Sunset Strip since its opening in 1964\, the Whisky A Go-Go has played host to rock ‘n’ roll’s most important bands\, from the Doors\, Janis Joplin\, and Led Zeppelin to today’s up-and-coming new artists. \n \nOn January 16\, 1964\, a small club on the Sunset Strip opened its doors for the first time.\n\nIt was The Whisky a Go Go\, the first-ever live music venue to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and the most iconic club on the Strip. Founded by Mario Maglieri\, Elmer Valentine\, and Phil Tanzini – The Whisky had to spell its name without the ‘e’ in whiskey because Los Angeles city zoning laws didn’t allow any club to be named after alcohols (The Whisky constantly had problems with the city and for a while had the name “The Whisk?”). The world-famous Whisky a Go Go opened on Jan. 15\, 1964\, with a concert by Johnny Rivers. \nA DJ named Joanie Labine (the first DJ at The Whisky) played records in a booth that was suspended to the right of the stage in between Johnny Rivers’ sets. Labine entertained the crowd by dancing and the idea of the go-go dancer was born. Very soon a ‘costume’ of the go-go dancers also emerged: a girl wearing a short\, fringed skirt and high\, white boots: a trend that will spread to all discotheques and nightclubs all across the country. \nAnd the rest is history… \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.eventbrite.com/e/fast-times-monday-night\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:Silverlake Lounge SIN Karaoke
DESCRIPTION:TONIGHT @ 9:30- Silverlake\nThe Silverlake Lounge presents SIN Karaoke for the Service Industry professionals! Every Monday night at 9:30! Perform on stage! Rad bartenders! Cheap drinks! \n \n…your local neighborhood watering hole\, historic music venue\, comedy club… and Drag \nThis is a 21+ event. \n\n \n2906 Sunset Blvd\, Los Angeles\, CA 90026 \n  \nThe Silverlake Lounge is one of the oldest drinking establishments on LA’s eastside\, serving the community as a nightlife venue since 1938. The bar has a long and celebrated history within the Indie Music Scene and the LGBT community that continues to this day. Settling into its current iteration around 1975\, it was an early stage for drag and gay cabaret acts and a safe space for non-identifying Latinx locals. In the early 2000s\, it gained notoriety as one of the central hubs and incubators for the blossoming indie music scene. \n \nBands like Rilo Kiley\, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club\, and The Silversun Pickups all started on our stage. As the longest-standing\, independent\, live music venue in Silverlake\, the blending of the two subcultures has cemented its place in local history. The Silverlake Lounge is a place of diversity and a safe space for Creatives and the Queer BIPOC community. It is one of the few properties left that serves the whole of its community. \nOur continued mission is to produce nightly entertainment that presents independent\, emerging artists to greater Los Angeles and its welcomed travelers while remaining a local watering hole for the East Side neighborhood. We feature lineups that represent the color and diversity of our community— indie\, punk\, country\, and folk artists’ sets\, singer/songwriter showcases\, weekend drag cabaret\, comedy\, and karaoke. We are committed to our community and look forward to hosting a heavily sponsored fundraiser for local BIPOC/LGBT services. \n \nIn a time where so many properties are being lost to global booking companies\, we are working hard to keep the East Side Indie! \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.thesilverlakelounge.com/shows\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:FREE TREES FROM CITY PLANTS LA
DESCRIPTION:CITY PLANTS IS OFFERING FREE TREES TO LA RESIDENTS!\nHelp make the city greener and healthier\, by planting a tree in your yard or on your street\, you can help reduce air pollution\, lower energy bills\, and increase property values! \n \nGetting a free tree from City Plants is easy. Simply visit their website and fill out the online application. Once your application is approved\, a City Plants representative will work with you to choose the right tree for your location and arrange for it to be delivered to your home. \nPlanting a tree may seem like a small act\, but it can have a big impact on your community and the environment. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and other pollutants\, help reduce noise pollution\, and provide shade that can help lower temperatures and reduce the urban heat island effect. \n \nSo why not do your part to make LA a greener and more beautiful place? Sign up for a free tree from City Plants today and enjoy the many benefits of having a tree in your yard or on your street. \n\n\n\n\n\n    \n200 N. Spring Street\, M-152\, Los Angeles\, CA 90012\nOur Mission\n\n\n\n\nOur mission is to grow a greener future for Los Angeles by engaging Angelenos to plant and care for trees throughout the City. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur Vision\n\n\n\n\nAt City Plants\, we envision a Los Angeles in which people in every neighborhood have equal access to trees and their benefits: clean air\, energy efficiency\, better health\, cooling shade\, and friendlier\, more vibrant communities. \n \nWhat We Do\nWe plant and distribute 20\,000 trees a year. We work with six non-profit partners and several different LA City departments to transform streets and neighborhoods. \nOur Priorities\n\nPlanting in low-canopy neighborhoods\nPromoting a sustainable city by maximizing our canopy’s energy efficiency\, stormwater capture\, human health benefits\, and climate adaptation benefits\nCreating jobs in tree planting and care\n\n \n\n\n\n\nHow We Work\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCity Plants is a non-profit organization running a public-private partnership between the City of Los Angeles and six other non-profit organizations. Together\, we work with community groups\, residents\, and businesses to coordinate tree planting and care throughout Los Angeles. \nCity Plants is a continuation of LA’s former tree planting program\, Million Trees LA. Our current name reflects our changing priorities\, which are to focus our efforts in low canopy areas and to plant in a way that maximizes the benefits trees provide rather than on reaching a specific number of trees. \nIn 2001\, LADWP created the “Trees for a Green LA” program and started planting trees for energy efficiency. By subsequently partnering with City Plants to run this program\, the utility has been able to increase its effectiveness and reach\, leveraging energy efficiency resources to bring over $5 million of state and federal funds to Los Angeles for planting and caring for new trees. LADWP remains City Plants’ largest partner in its citywide tree-planting efforts. Through this partnership\, City Plants is able to provide free shade trees for residents and property owners in the City of LA\, along with important information on where to plant those trees to maximize energy efficiency in homes or businesses. \nOur urban forest nourishes and protects us all. It’s up to each of us to take care of it and grow a greener future for our kids. \n\n\n\n\nWhy Trees?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLos Angeles is at a crossroads when it comes to the health of our trees. Our city has lost thousands of trees due to drought and pests and will lose thousands more due to old age in the coming decades. The City’s Urban Forestry Division estimates that we will lose between one-third and one-half of our street trees in the next 40 years due to old age alone. \nWe cannot take our trees for granted. We must plant now to ensure a green future for our kids and grandkids.\nWe are losing trees at a time when we need them the most. We expect our City to get hotter in the coming decades\, and trees are key to cooling our homes\, streets\, and schools. We must plant aggressively now to ensure that as temperatures rise\, our City is equipped with a cooling canopy of healthy\, mature trees. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n   Trees filter asthma-causing pollution out of the air and help reduce the greenhouse gases that cause global warming.\n   They help us protect our famous beaches by capturing polluted stormwater and helping it sink into the ground rather than wash out to sea.\n   Trees add beauty to our neighborhoods\, which increases property values and makes business corridors more attractive to shoppers.\n   Trees are an excellent way to keep our yards green while using less water\, especially when planting one of the many drought-resilient varieties available through our program.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.cityplants.org\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:The Old LA Zoo
DESCRIPTION:OPEN EVERYDAY- Griffith Park\nThe Old LA Zoo\, or The Griffith Park Zoo\, opened in 1912 and closed in 1966 with the opening of the new\, Los Angeles Zoo. The abandoned site of the Griffith Park Zoo\, complete with the ruins of animal enclosures\, is now a picnic area and hiking trail in Griffith Park. \n  \n \nThe Old LA Zoo opened in 1912 with a grand total of only 15 animals. Bears\, Lions\, Monkeys\, Macaw’s\, Elephants\, Reptiles\, Goats\, and Turtles now lived in the zoo\, which was built on the original site of Griffith J. Griffith‘s defunct ostrich farm. \n  \n \nAs Los Angeles grew\, the small Griffith Park Zoo was increasingly criticized as an “inadequate\, ugly\, poorly designed despite drawing more than 2 million visitors a year. \nIn 1958\, the city decided to create a brand new zoo\, and the Griffith Park Zoo closed in August 1966. Its animals were transferred to the new Los Angeles Zoo 2 miles away\, which opened a few months later. \n  \n \nThe animal enclosures\, with the bars removed\, were left as ruins and remain today. A large picnic area was added\, and NOW every summer\, the zoo is the location for the Independent Shakespeare Company’s  Free “Shakespeare in the Park” performances. \nThe Old Zoo is located on Griffith Park Dr. Only 2 miles from today’s LA Zoo\,   \n  \n \nUpon arriving\, you will see a small parking lot. Follow the path Up the hill to reach the abandoned enclosure. \nUpon arriving\, you will enter many of the original Grotto’s. There are lots of little spaces to crawl into\, AND stairs to climb up. \n  \n \nFollow the path around to get to the upper lever where you will find even more cages & enclosures. \n \nIf you are going to come for a visit\, make sure to bring a bottle of water and your imagination. \n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nfriendsofgriffithpark.org\n \n  \nFind more

Thanks to this crazy new bar in Winnetka\, CA and our buddy the bartender\, we were introduced to new styles of beer that were much different than the commercial brands we were used to. After many conversations on the process of making beer and the brewing techniques of smaller breweries\, we decided to take a chance at brewing our own malted\, adult beverages! We signed up for a Maltose Falcons class\, bought a brewing kit and a turkey fryer and made a batch of beer on June 23\, 2012. After this first batch\, we were hooked! We invested more time in learning about the process\, fabricated custom brewing equipment and experimented with new recipes while tweaking them to make them our own. After serving samples of our homemade brews and getting positive feedback\, we began talking of doing it legit and opening up a brewery!  Given our Valley roots and the fact our beer was brewed out of a garage in Sylmar\, CA\, we decided 818 Brewing was the perfect name and we filed our paperwork in October 2014 for our new venture. \nWhat we’ve enjoyed the most along our journey is the sense of community within the craft brew scene. Not many products can bring people together of different nationalities\, age groups\, religious beliefs\, income levels\, political views – and even fellow brewers! – And create a moment of common ground.  8 one 8 Brewing is proud to offer a product that brings us together to say cheers! \n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \neventbrite.com/e/brewery-bike-ride\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

DESCRIPTION:EVERY MONDAY / WEDNESDAY / FRIDAY- Hollywood\nRunyon Canyon Yoga is lead by Daniel Overberger\, every Monday\, Wednesday and Friday from 10:30am – 11:30am. No\, it’s not just an urban legend. This is where it all began: donation-based yoga in the park\, year-round\, since 2000. \nCatch Daniel on\nMONDAY / WEDNESDAY / FRIDAY\n10:30am – 11:30am\nRunyon Canyon\n2000 N. Fuller Ave.\, Hollywood\, CA 90046\nSuggested donation: $5 or more\nBring a mat or a towel and meet in the fenced-in children’s play area just inside the main entrance (weather permitting). Everyone is welcome. \n  \n\n \nRunyon Canyon Yoga- 2000 N. Fuller Ave.\, Hollywood\, CA 90046 \n  \nIn 1634\, Daniel Overberger’s forebears came to America on the Dove as escaped counterfeiters. Here\, they mated with members of the Yaocomico tribe of Maryland. Centuries later\, it is this union of fugitive and shaman blood that runs through Daniel’s veins\, injecting a much needed outlaw spirit into western yoga. \n \nHaving earned his teaching certification through his studies and apprenticeship with ashtanga vinyasa masters in Mysore\, India\, Daniel has been bringing donation-based vinyasa yoga to the people since 2005. The host of the Daniel Overberger – What Now? podcast\, author of Leaving Stress Behind and founder of alt-kirtan group Dharma Gypsys\, Daniel has been featured on KTLA News\, in Tarzan Magazine (Japan) and in LA Yoga Magazine\, to which he has been a regular contributor. \n \nDaniel has two teaching certificates from his studies in Mysore\, India and teaches Vinyasa yoga with roots in Ashtanga. Grand Avenue\, Los Angeles\, CA 90012\n\nThe Broad makes its collection of contemporary art from the 1950s to the present accessible to the widest possible audience by presenting exhibitions and operating a lending program to art museums and galleries worldwide. \nBy actively building a dynamic collection that features in-depth representations of influential contemporary artists and by advancing education and engagement through exhibitions and diverse public programming\, the museum enriches\, provokes\, inspires\, and fosters appreciation of art of our time. \n \nThe Broad was founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler\, the museum offers free general admission and presents an active program of rotating temporary exhibitions and innovative audience engagement. The Broad is home to 2\,000 works of art in the Broad collection\, which is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. \n  \n \nThe Broad from Home\nThe Broad is committed to inspiring and fostering an appreciation of contemporary art through our digital initiatives. Experience #TheBroadFromHome to find inspiration through music\, poetry\, performance\, workshops\, and conversations centered around the Broad collection. \nOverview \nPerformances \nTalks & Conversations \nArtist Spotlight \nFamily Art Workshops \nMore Online Programs \n  \nThe Broad Collection\nEli and Edythe Broad have been building their collection of postwar and contemporary art over the last 50 years. With a belief that the greatest art collections are built when the art is being made\, the Broads took to collecting art of their own time. \nThe Broad is home to 2\,000 works in the Broad collection by more than 200 artists\, and is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. The collection features in-depth holdings of influential contemporary artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Mark Bradford\, Jasper Johns\, Jeff Koons\, Barbara Kruger\, Yayoi Kusama\, Kerry James Marshall\, Julie Mehretu\, Takashi Murakami\, Robert Rauschenberg\, Ed Ruscha\, Cindy Sherman\, Cy Twombly\, Andy Warhol\, and more\, plus an ever-growing representation of younger artists. \n  \nView Our Collection Here\n \nIn Under the Table\, 1994\, the viewer is both in the world of imaginary giants and in the world of remembered childhood. Fusing Alice in Wonderland with the Duchampian tradition of the readymade\, Artist Robert Therrien constructs a doppelganger from an everyday object\, both displaying his visual wit and actualizing literary or imaginative fantasy in three-dimensional space. The table exudes an extraordinary aura\, compelling one to walk underneath the table and conjuring the physical memory of being under the table of one’s childhood home. Complicated and powerful\, the work offers fresh ideas of what a table\, sculpture\, and memory can mean. \n  \n  \n \nUsing the recognizable form of a balloon twisted into the shape of a dog\, Koons has frozen a moment in time\, exaggerating both scale and material. \nBalloon Dog (Blue) is literal and abstract. When standing close to it\, one’s own distorted reflection bends around smooth pert curves. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission is Free\nAll visitors must reserve timed tickets in advance. Some exhibitions and events carry a separate charge. \n\n\n\n\n\nHours\nMonday: Closed\nTuesday – Wednesday: 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.\nThursday – Friday: 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.\nSaturday: 10:00 a.m.-8:00p.m.\nSunday: 10:00 a.m.-6:00p.m. \n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.thebroad.org/visit/mirror-rooms\n \n  \nFind more

It was known as the Shed from 1968-1972\, The Outcast from 1972-1983\, the famous Gauntlet II from 1983-2005\, then later\, Eagle LA. \n \nGauntlet II was in operation for 21 years. Then\, in the summer of 2005 Charlie and business partner Vince decided to buy the bar with the intention of making a name change. In April 2006\, Eagle LA was born\, or\, reborn as it may be. There was an original Eagle LA located in West Hollywood at the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Fairfax. It operated for 15 years and closed in 1995. Although that Eagle is of no relation to Charlie or Vince\, they are proud to reestablish the Eagle LA and become the latest in a long line of Eagle bars in cities throughout the US and around the world. It has always been their mission to uphold the Leather/Uniform/Fetish traditions set forth by the infamous Eagle name and that traditions still holds true today. \n \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://eaglela.com/home/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:The Broad Museum
DESCRIPTION:FREE TUE – SUN- Bunker Hill\, DTLA\n\n\n\n\nThe Broad museum presents an in-depth installation of Roy Lichtenstein\, opening May 26\, 2021\, features 22 artworks\, with nearly half on view for the first time\, including Purist Still Life (1975)\, Female Figure (1979)\, Two Paintings: Radiator and Folded Sheets (1984)\, and Nude with Pyramid (1994). \nAn outcome of sustained and ongoing engagement with artists and artwork\, the Broad collection is distinctive in its exceptional dedication to the full arc of artists’ careers. The Broad has highlighted this depth through expansive presentations in the third floor galleries\, featuring Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Roy Lichtenstein\, Kara Walker\, Andy Warhol\, and Christopher Wool\, along with works by many others. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom the curators\n\n\n\nRead extended content on Lichtenstein’s works in our mobile museum guide: mobile.thebroad.org/artistguides \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHighlighted Artwork\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPurist Still Life\n\nRoy Lichtenstein\n\n\n1975\n\n\noil and Magna on canvas\n\n\n70 x 80 in. Grand Avenue\, Los Angeles\, CA 90012\nThe Broad makes its collection of contemporary art from the 1950s to the present accessible to the widest possible audience by presenting exhibitions and operating a lending program to art museums and galleries worldwide. \n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.thebroad.org\n \n  \nFind more
