SUMMARY:Net Cruze Coffee and Cars
DESCRIPTION:Net Cruze Cars And Coffee- Westchester\, California\nNet Cruze Cars And Coffee events have been going for decades.  And that was news to me upon my first stop in mid-August. \nBut they’re in a new location.  And it’s kind of tricky in that it’s a huge parking lot behind the 99-cents store in Westchester.  Further\, this is a cool event worth checking out for sure. \nSo cars from the ’30s through ’50s are pretty well represented.  And that’s both originals and customs.  Then\, when I was there\, there was a Corvette Club represented too.  All newer C7s but nicely done as well. \nBut everyone and everything is welcome.  For instance\, there was an older Bronco\, a newer Porsche\, and even a Studebaker on hand. \nAdditionally\, the organizers offered coffee and pastries.  Plus a raffle drawing toward the end that kept everyone on hand for cash prizes\, gas cards\, and even handbags for the ladies. \n\n \n1939 Buick \n\nNet Cruze Cars And Coffee – Westchester\, California\nLocation: 6835 La Tijera Blvd.\nAdmission: Free\nVehicle registration: Free \n  \nHours\n2nd and 4th Saturdays: 9:00am – 12:00pm \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.idrivesocal.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

At the time\, Los Angeles was the country’s tenth-most-populous city—and downtown was the epicenter of a flourishing metropolis. \nToday\, the Market’s 40 stalls are home to an only-in-LA blend of legacy vendors like China Cafe and Roast To Go (Grand Central Market tenants for over half a century)\, rising stars\, and success stories from the city’s buzzing food scene. The Market is a microcosm of the historic immigrant communities that have shaped Los Angeles and a mosaic of the creativity and vision of the people who call this city home. \nGrand Central Market has been part of the LA story from the very beginning. We feel lucky to be woven into the founding fabric that makes this city shine and steal hearts—inspiring people from all over the world to come\, see\, explore\, and discover. To this day\, there’s always room at our table\, and the whole city here for the tasting. \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://grandcentralmarket.com/bazaar/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

Like monuments and national anthems\, they intend to create a sense of identity-based on a shared past\, present\, and future. \nLike many other governments\, the communist countries of the twentieth century produced an abundance of flags and banners. They were omnipresent at military parades\, sports events\, and public gatherings. Apart from national flags\, many organizations produced their own richly decorated flags and banners. The Wende Museum holds over 2\,000 of these ornamental textiles in its collection. \nMartin Roemers: Relics of the Cold War\n \nDuring an eleven-year period\, from 1998 through 2009\, Dutch photographer Martin Roemers photographed the structural and topographic remnants of the Cold War in both the East and West. His research took him to Russia\, Poland\, Czech Republic\, Ukraine\, Latvia\, Lithuania\, Great Britain\, Netherlands\, Belgium\, and Germany\, where he documented underground tunnels\, abandoned army bases\, military training areas\, rotting tanks\, and destroyed monuments. \nLight–guard–house: Installation by Farrah Karapetian\n \nThe 20-square-foot aluminum guardhouse that sat outside the ADN headquarters in East Berlin from 1971–92 is both an artifact of an atmosphere of mistrust and representative of past and current political protectionism. Artist Farrah Karapetian will turn this structure into a lighthouse\, changing a gesture of suspicion into a gesture of welcome. The windows of the guardhouse will be tinted in a rainbow gradient encompassing all of the colors potentially included in national flags. Over the course of Wende’s concurrent exhibition\, The Medium is the Message: Flags and Banners\, Karapetian will engage with the public about experiences they have had as migrants. As the stories accumulate and become available on the museum’s website\, the light inside the lighthouse will pause at the various colors associated with the flags of the respective national borders crossed. Rather than the finality of immigration\, the artist’s focus is the prevalence of migration\, asking visitors: What experiences of welcome or mistrust have occurred as you have moved internationally? How have they colored your life in their wake? \n\n \n10808 Culver Blvd.\, Culver City\, CA 90230 \n \nThe Wende is an art museum\, historical archive of the Cold War\, and center for creative community engagement that explores and inspires change.  \nThe Wende reaches beyond the conventional walls of a museum and places equal value on an international scholarship\, community engagement\, digital access\, and wide-ranging experimentation. \nWende is a German word meaning “turning point” or “change” that has come to describe the transformative period around the fall of the Berlin Wall. Founded in 2002\, the Wende Museum holds an unparalleled collection of art and artifacts from the Cold War era\, which serves as a foundation for programs that illuminate political and cultural changes of the past\, offer opportunities to make sense of a  changing present\, and inspire active participation in personal and social change for a better future. \nThe Wende fulfills its mission of exploring and inspiring change through \n\ncollecting\, preserving\, and providing open access to artwork\, artifacts\, archives\, films\, and personal histories from the sphere touched by socialism during the Cold War era (1945– 1991);\npromoting rigorous scholarship\, educating students\, and stimulating general interest through lectures\, symposia\, publications\, and providing access to digitized collections;\npresenting experimental exhibitions and interdisciplinary programming inspired by the collection;\nfacilitating creative collaborations with contemporary artists and designers;\npartnering with other nonprofit organizations; and\nproviding community services such as wellness programs\, opportunities for civic engagement\, and family-friendly activities.\n\nCore Strengths\n\n\nThe Wende Museum’s collection and intellectual activities have achieved notable strength in four areas of specialization: German Democratic Republic; Wende Moments; Personal Histories and Everyday Life; and Public and Private Interaction. \n\nHours\nMonday – Thursday: Closed\nFriday – Sunday: 10:00am – 5:00pm \n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.wendemuseum.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Forest Lawn Museum
DESCRIPTION:NOW ON EXHIBIT – Forest Lawn Museum\, Glendale\nEnriching the community through artwork. The Forest Lawn Museum first opened in 1952 and is located adjacent to the Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection at Forest Lawn – Glendale.  Forest Lawn’s founder\, Dr. Hubert Eaton\, wrote in his Builder’s Creed that our park should be “a place where artists study and sketch; where school teachers bring happy children to see the things they read of in books.” In that spirit\, the Forest Lawn Museum displays a permanent collection\, as well as world-class rotating exhibits. With engaging special exhibits and free educational and artistic activities\, there is always something new to experience. \n \nForest Lawn Museum is located within Forest Lawn-Glendale (1712 S. Glendale Ave\, Glendale\, CA 91205). Enter the main gate on Glendale Ave and follow signs to the top of the hill. Admission is free and there’s plenty of free parking!\nEmail museum@forestlawn.com to schedule your free group tour today. \nHealth and Safety Precautions\nFor the health and safety of visitors and staff\, wearing a mask indoors is recommended\, but no longer mandatory. We look forward to your visit! \n\nIn addition to the museum\, statues\, and architecture displayed around our parks. Forest Lawn offers several ongoing exhibits that are free to the public.\n \nThe Great Mausoleum at 100\nOn May 2\, 1920\, Forest Lawn dedicated the Great Mausoleum. On May 2\, 2020\, we recognize the centennial of this monumental building. Construction began in 1917 and only one level was complete at the dedication ceremony. The building now has 11 terraces\, dozens of sculptures\, and more than 100 stained glass windows. It has endured through the Great Depression\, World War II\, and into the 21st century. Even in the difficult times that we’re currently experiencing\, we look forward to another hundred years of history with the Great Mausoleum. \n\n \n1712 S Glendale Ave.\, Glendale\, CA 91205 \nSince our founding\, Forest Lawn has committed itself to providing outstanding service and beautiful environments for family outings\, remembering loved ones\, and commemorating holidays. Whether you are planning how to help your loved ones remember you\, memorializing someone special in your life\, or joining us for holiday events like Easter or Memorial Day\, we invite you to visit Forest Lawn. \n\nServing Families for More Than 100 Years\nSince its founding in 1906\, Forest Lawn has been an integral part of the community it serves. By combining the mortuary and cemetery sides of the business\, Eaton achieved his goal\, making Forest Lawn a beautiful setting for services\, weddings\, baptisms\, and family excursions. After 100 years of service\, the Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks remain a place for the living and a true community resource. \nHours\nMonday: Closed\nTuesday – Sunday: 10:00am – 5:00pm \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nforestlawn.com/museum\n \n  \nFind more

A panel discussion will be followed by Q&A and book signing. \nRick Castro is a photographer\, filmmaker\, and writer who has lived and worked in Los Angeles for his entire life. He made his first image in 1986 and from then on immersed himself in homoerotic fetish photography. In 1996\, he directed Hustler White\, starring Bruce LaBruce. From 2005 to 2017\, he owned and operated Antebellum Gallery\, the only fetish art gallery in America. Over the course of his career\, he has created portraits of Gore Vidal\, Kenneth Anger\, Ron Athey\, Alice Bag\, Peter Berlin\, Michele Lamy\, and the 14th Dalai Lama. He has collaborated on fashion editorial for Christian Dior Homme\, Cartier\, and Rick Owens. He is best known as the author of ALL NIGHT MENU\, a collection of L.A. microhistories spread across five booklets. See you there! \n \nWelcome to the Hoopers Paradise\n\n\n\n\nVeniceball began in 2006 as a community tournament on the legendary courts of Venice Beach\, and has become one of the most prominent summer leagues in the World. A meeting place for world-class athletes\, entertainers\, artists\, creators\, and global citizens. A breeding ground for collaborations and initiatives\, far beyond the conventional imagination of how far hoop dreams can go. From building courts all over the world to hosting premier basketball events\, to winning 4 of our own World championships\, we are just getting started. Our dedicated team lives by three words: \n#GameNeverStops \n\n \n\n\n\n\nVeniceball has founded several philanthropic initiatives that empower underprivileged communities around the world. From KVBL \, HOOPBUS\, Build Courts not Walls\, Veniceball has grown global roots that connect the basketball community worldwide. All these efforts are supported by sales of the Veniceball game day merchandise \, which mixes athletic performance fabrics and street style swag. Infused with West Coast flavor\, this designer hoopware is made in LA in limited quantities. The uniform for hoopers on and off the court and everyday\, VBL gear is ready to wear–-stay ready so you don’t have to get ready.\n\n\nWHERE:\n\nVeniceball Basketball Courts\n1700 Ocean Front Walk\, Venice Beach\, CA  90291 \nSomewhere at a court Near you \nParadise \nWelcome to the Hooper’s Paradise where one can get lost in time by the rhythmic beat of basketballs\, the crashing waves on the shoreline\, and lit by the heavens from the angelic sunrises and sunsets to the night sky littered with stars. This is more than a game\, a ball\, a court\, a dream… it’s our state of mind. \nHOOPBUS\nThe greatest invention since the peach baskets \n \nKIDS ARE THE FOUNDATION\nKids Venice Basketball League (KVBL) uses basketball as a catalyst to create a safe environment for youth around the globe.  The goal of the KVBL is to provide experiences for children that empower them to cultivate a healthy lifestyle\, gain confidence in themselves and each other\, and become Leaders IN their communities. \nOnce a week from winter to fall the KVBL takes place from indoor facilities to the beach. Our focus is to give kids a strong foundation\, not only in basketball skills and broadly based health and fitness\, but also global awareness and responsibility. \nAt no cost to the children or their families\, KVBL kids are exposed to the following: Yoga instruction from world-renowned Yoga masters; basketball lessons with some of the League’s premier players and other celebrities; fitness facts and training from Vegan nutrition professionals. Gourmet chefs will demonstrate to the kids the simplicity of eating healthy by making together healthy smoothies and lunch. The boys and girls of the camp are also given the opportunity to play in a similarly structured league in the afternoon where kids will shine\, earn a nickname and showcase their talent in front of everyone. \nFor more INFO contact us veniceball@gmail.com  \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttp://veniceball.com/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

His publications include Castro (DPR Press\, 1990) and 13 Years of Bondage: The Photography of Rick Castro (Fluxion Editions\, 2004). He regularly posts new imagery at instagram.com/castrrick. \nSam Sweet is a writer\, publisher\, and archivist specializing in lost heroes and miniatures histories of Los Angeles. He is best known as the author of ALL NIGHT MENU\, a collection of L.A. microhistories spread across five booklets. Each volume contains eight addresses and each address connects to a different time period\, subculture\, and section of the city. ALL NIGHT MENU has since grown to encompass visual publications\, a photographic archive\, and an oral history series. His work can be found at samsweet.info and allnight-menu.com. \n  \n \nGirl Internet Show: A Kati Kelli Mixtape\nTuesday\, June 27\, 2023\, 8pm \nBrain Dead Studios\, 611 N Fairfax Ave\, Los Angeles\, CA 90036 \nFree\, Reservations Required (Reservation link available soon) \n  \nThis brand-new feature-length “mixtape” unearths and reintroduces a stunning\, singular body of work by the enigmatic Kati Kelli\, an outsider video artist and digital native whose subversive online uploads push at the seams of the digital form. For nearly a decade before her passing in 2019\, Kati ran “Girl Internet Show\,” a YouTube channel\, parasocial experiment\, and epically deranged one-woman universe built from scratch in her bedroom. This hand-made mixtape by Jane Schoenbrun and Jordan Wippell features a lovingly curated selection of Kati’s online work\, unreleased videos\, and her first (and final) short film opus “Total Body Removal Surgery.” A discussion with filmmaker Jordan Wippell will follow the screening. \n  \n \nCAN YOU FEEL IT? Dance performances\nSunday\, June 25\, 2023\, 2pm \nWest Hollywood Park at the base of the Aquatic and Recreation Center grand staircase\, 8750 El Tovar Pl\, West Hollywood\, CA 90069 \nFree\, Open to the Public\, No RSVP Needed. \nCAN YOU FEEL IT? is a curated selection of live performances and original dance works by local dance companies\, independent choreographers\, and performances artists in West Hollywood Park. This is an outdoor event that is free and open to the public. Unreserved seating will be available on the steps of the West Hollywood Aquatics and Recreation Center. Please bring sun-protection — umbrellas and hats are recommended. \n  \n \nDouble Screening—Showgirls (1995) + Showgirls 2: The Cut (2013)\, \nhosted by John Early and Rena Riffel \nWednesday\, June 28\, 2023\, 7pm \nBrain Dead Studios\, 611 N Fairfax Ave\, Los Angeles\, CA 90036 \nFree\, Donations Accepted\, Reservation Required (Reservation link available soon) \nJoin John Early (Search Party\, 30 Rock) and Rena Riffel (Showgirls and director of Showgirls 2: The Cut) for an iconic evening of live performance and film. In Showgirls\, a carefree erotic dancer in Las Vegas named Penny witnesses the rise and fall of one of her co-workers. In Showgirls 2: The Cut\, Penny follows her dream to become the star dancer on a television show — a satirical parody and cautionary tale of traveling down the path toward a self-fulfilling prophecy. \n  \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.wehopride.com/artsfestival\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:The Getty Summer Concerts Series- OFF THE 405
DESCRIPTION:SELECT SATURDAYS THIS SUMMER- The Getty Center\nExperience the magic of live music against a backdrop of stunning architecture and breathtaking sunset views at OFF THE 405\, the Getty Center’s annual outdoor summer concert series. Join us as we showcase some of today’s most exciting bands for an unforgettable evening of entertainment.\n\n\nMakaya McCraven\nDate: Saturday\, June 24\, 2023\nTime: DJ set by Scottie McNiece at 6:00 pm; Performance at 7:30 p.m.\nLocation: Museum Courtyard\nAdmission: Free\, tickets required.  \n\nMakaya McCraven is a prolific drummer\, composer\, and producer. Known for his unique approach to jazz\, which blends live improvisation with sampling\, he’s been described as a “beat scientist” and “one of the most important figures in the jazz world” by critics. His music draws from a wide range of influences\, including hip-hop\, electronica\, and folk music. \nMcCraven believes that the word “jazz” is “insufficient\, at best\, to describe the phenomenon we’re dealing with.” Profiled in Vice\, Rolling Stone\, The Guardian\, and NPR\, among other publications\, his music is at the very vanguard of this indescribable phenomenon. According to the New York Times\, “McCraven has quietly become one of the best arguments for jazz’s vitality.” \nFollowing up on his widely acclaimed 2018 album Universal Beings\, McCraven’s newest release\, In These Times\, is the triumphant finale of a project seven years in the making. It cements his renown as a “cultural synthesizer” and an artist with a unique gift for collapsing space\, destroying borders\, and blending past\, present\, and future into polytextural arrangements of post-genre jazz. \nWatch “Dream Another\,” by Makaya McCraven. \n\n  \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \ngetty.edu/visit/cal/performances.html\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

You can find our full review of Pluto TV HERE. \n  \n \nWhat is Pluto TV? \nWell let’s see. We could pen a historical essay about our 2013 origins. \n \nWe could toss around numbers like 100s of channels\, 200+ content partners\, and 26+ million viewers. We could even drone on about our huge library of on-demand content which spans across all genres of movies\, news\, TV shows\, sports\, documentaries\, and blah blah blahhh… \nBut why complicate things when Pluto TV is\, at its core\, really simple? \nAll you really need to know is… it’s free of passwords\, it’s free of payments\, and it’s free of all those Friday night spats about what to watch. \nPluto TV is a free live-stream television and on-demand video service from ViacomCBS. \n  \n\n\n\nSo just lean back. Drop in and enjoy the show. It’s free.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat will I Find on Pluto TV?\n\n\nLIVE TV\n\n\n\n\nBlockbuster Movies\n \nComedy\n \nCult Classics\n \n\nKids & Family Friendly Programing \n\n\nSports\n \nNews\n\n\nLatino\n \n\n\nWatch on your \nSmart TV\, Streaming Devices\, Mobile App\, Desktop App or Watch On The Web\n\n\n \n\nOwned by ViacomCBS\, Pluto TV is a live-TV streaming service\, not entirely unlike Sling TV and such competitors as DirecTV Now\, Hulu+ Live TV\, or other similar services. But unlike those services which offer streaming access to channels you’d find on cable TV\, Pluto TV offers free content mainly curated from what’s already available online. Pluto TV launched in 2014 and picked up steam fairly quickly making it the largest free TV streaming service in the U.S. \nYou’re not going to find standard TV channels\, though some are represented via their web counterparts\, especially news outlets. Those include familiar names like Bloomberg\, Cheddar\, CNBC\, MSNBC\, CBSN\, and many others. As of April 2019\, it also includes CNN\, though not the full\, live CNN you get on cable. Instead\, the CNN channel features a curated playlist of short-form digital content from CNN’s anchors and reporters. Featured clips are oriented toward lifestyle and culture\, climate change\, the environment\, and original CNN investigations and interviews. A similar channel for NBC called NBC News Now arrived in February 2020. Other recent additions to Pluto include CMT\, Kevin Hart’s Laugh out Loud\, and Red Bull TV\, plus a handful of new themed channels in Celebrity\, Reality\, and Lives\, the perfect cocktail for pop culture and reality TV enthusiasts. \nSports coverage is less conventional — you’re not going to find the likes of ESPN here. Instead\, you’ll find choices like Fight\, World Poker Tour\, Impact Wrestling\, a dedicated Sports News network\, Glory Kickboxing\, and the Big Sky Network. DAZN recently signed a deal to provide an original weekly series on Pluto TV\, and there’s potential for that partnership to expand down the line. Pluto has recently added an official PGA Tour channel with 24/7 coverage of one of golf’s biggest tournaments. \nIn the Entertainment section\, there are reruns of reality and documentary shows alongside episodes of Dennis the Menace\, Thunderbirds\, and other older TV shows. Among those various channels\, you’ll also find Wipeout\, a network that only shows reruns of the popular game show and various iterations from different countries\, as well as Nosey\, which shows reruns of The Jerry Springer Show and The Maury Show\, among others. Meanwhile\, the Curiosity section features Science TV\, Docu TV\, Xive TV\, and even a NASA live stream. New additions include Pluto TV Sitcoms\, offering a selection of older comedies like 3rd Rock from the Sun and The Lucy Show\, and a Spanish-language channel called Pluto TV Cine. \n  \n\nFor additional information\, visit the Pluto TV website @ \npluto.tv\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Cars and Coffee Los Angeles
DESCRIPTION:LAST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH- Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round Lot \nCars & Coffee Los Angeles is a Classic Car Show held at the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round Lot #1\, located at 4730 Crystal Springs Dr\, Los Angeles\, CA 90027. The Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round is a nostalgia-inducing gem that\, much like Disneyland\, is still enjoyed by the young and the young-at-heart decades after its inception. The small carousel\, which is tucked away into a quiet corner of the park\, served as Walt Disney’s inspiration for Disneyland. When his children were young\, Walt\, a Los Feliz denizen\, took them to the merry-go-round on weekends. During one visit\, while sitting on a bench watching his kids circle round and round\, he was inspired to create a large scale gathering site that the whole family could enjoy. His dream was realized on July 17\, 1955\, when Disneyland opened to the public. \n \n  \nClassic Car Show with a little coffee and some amazing automobiles\nLast Sunday of every month\n  \n \nCars & Coffee Los Angeles was founded to bring together like-minded automotive\, photography\, and design enthusiasts. Straight from California family farms to your table. Bon appetit! \nBegun in 1977\, the Certified Farmers Market (CFM) program exempted farmers from prior packing\, sizing and labeling requirements. According to the California Department of Food & Agriculture\, this has a number of benefits to consumers and the agricultural community: CFMs — \n\n\nBring fresh\, high quality goods from producers and create a diverse market. \n\n\n Give consumers opportunities to meet the farmer and learn how their food supply is produced. \n\n\n Provide a great opportunity for small farmers to market their products without the added expenses of commercial preparation. This increases their net income and makes it possible for them to stay in business. \n\n\n Offer a flexible marketing alternative without disrupting other produce marketing systems. \n\n\nThere are approximately 800 Certified Farmers Markets in California and approximately 2\,500 certified producers. Of these markets\, 50% are year-round markets. The balance are seasonal\, generally operating from April through October. \n\nHours\n4th Sunday of the Month: 10:00am – 2:00pm\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.marvistafarmersmarket.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n  \n
