SUMMARY:Homeschooling Made Easy
DESCRIPTION:ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA ONLINE Free With Your Library Card\nWelcome to Britannica School\, a safe\, up-to-date\, and age-appropriate information resource for Elementary\, Middle\, and High School. Discover encyclopedia articles\, multimedia\, primary sources\, games\, and other learning resources that support student research and reinforce curriculum standards. \n\n\n\n\n\nSIGN ON HERE WITH YOUR LOS ANGELES PUBLIC LIBRARY CARD\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n \n  \n  \n\n  \n\nAge-appropriate for K-12\n\n\nBritannica School offers age-appropriate resources at 4 levels\, the Learning Zone for early learners and elementary\, middle and high school levels. \n\n  \n\n\n \nElementary\nSelect Elementary learning and begin your adventure looking for people\, places\, and things. Watch and learn with videos and animations. Have fun with games and activities. \n  \n \nMiddle & School Versions Grow as they do\nMany online products offer multiple levels for different ages\, but often struggling readers are reluctant to move to a lower level because the interface and experience are designed for younger students. With Britannica School\, content is available at all three reading levels and students can move quickly from one level to another without changing the look and feel of the site. Content and Interface work together to give the user an experience tailored to their needs. For example\, if elementary students move to a level with more advanced content\, their interface becomes more advanced as well; but middle and high school students stay in their more advanced interfaces\, even if they choose level 1. \n  \n  \n \nFor Educators and Home School Teachers\n\n\nOur biggest users tell us that students\, teachers and librarians all want to go beyond looking up content. You want to filter\, tag favorites\, adjust reading levels\, share content\, and serendipitously discover new and related ideas. \nWith Britannica School\, educators can map text and multimedia to classroom activities on the fly and even toggle within an article to see the State and Common Core standards associated with it. Teachers can create\, save and share lesson plans using the new lesson plan builder. They can map Britannica content\, define steps and activities\, select materials and share their ideas with other teachers. They can also access and review plans created by other teachers. \n\n\n\nBritannica School’s ESL/ELL Support\n\n\nEnglish language learners may choose to have articles read aloud with each word highlighted as it is read to increase comprehension. \nOther tools are built in for support as well including the Quick Click dictionary that provides definitions and audio pronunciations right when the reader needs them without leaving the article. \nBritannica School also offers multiple translation tools with an emphasis on Spanish-English translation but with more than 50 world languages available. \n\n\nUse Anywhere\nBritannica School is accessible at school\, home or anywhere you have an internet connection. Britannica School is designed to fit to any device—you can access content on a computer\, tablet\, or even a phone\, and Britannica School’s design will fit your screen. \n\n \n  \n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nbritannica.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:LITTLE FREE LIBRARY
DESCRIPTION:FREE BOOK EXCHANGE BOXES Various Location around LA\nThrough Little Free Library book exchanges\, millions of books are exchanged each year\, profoundly increasing access to books for readers of all ages and backgrounds. \n  \n \n  \n  \nWhy Does Book Access Matter?\nAcademically\, children growing up in homes without books are on average three years behind children in homes with lots of books\, even when controlled for other key factors. One of the most successful ways to improve the reading achievement of children is to increase their access to books\, especially at home. But two out of three children living in poverty have no books to call their own. \n  \n \nBook-sharing boxes play an essential role by providing 24/7 access to books (and encouraging a love of reading!) in areas where books are scarce. \nAt the Little Free Library nonprofit\, we’re working to fill book deserts and place libraries where they can make a big impact through our Impact Library Program. We’ve donated more than 1\,000 libraries through this program to-date. \n  \n \n  \nThe Los Angeles area is already home to almost 75 such libraries; use the Little Free Library map to find exact addresses for boxes in Hollywood\, Culver City\, Westchester\, Marina Del Rey\, Burbank\, and beyond. More locations will certainly be springing up soon. \n  \n \n  \nOur staff is dedicated to increasing book access and forging community connections.  Watch the adjacent video to get a 30-second introduction to learn how you can start one\, too! \n  \n \n  \n  \nWe provide ongoing support to Little Free Library volunteer stewards\, offering free library-building instructions\, an online store with pre-built library models and kits\, access to free or discounted books\, and an e-newsletter full of ideas and advice. Our Action Book Club\, which combines reading with community service\, is open to all. \n  \n  \n \n  \nWe also maintain a world map of registered Little Free Library boxes to help people find and share books wherever they are\, and we have donated more than 1\,000 Little Free Library book exchanges (and counting!) to communities where books are scarce through our Impact Library Program. \n  \n  \n \n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nlittlefreelibrary.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

Jackson\, I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO explores the continued peril America faces from institutionalized racism. \nIn 1979\, James Baldwin wrote a letter to his literary agent describing his next project\, Remember This House. The book was to be a revolutionary\, personal account of the lives and successive assassinations of three of his close friends–Medgar Evers\, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King\, Jr. At the time of Baldwin’s death in 1987\, he left behind only thirty completed pages of his manuscript. \nNow\, in his incendiary new documentary\, master filmmaker Raoul Peck envisions the book James Baldwin never finished. The result is a radical\, up-to-the-minute examination of race in America\, using Baldwin’s original words and flood of rich archival material. I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO is a journey into black history that connects the past of the Civil Rights movement to the present of #BlackLivesMatter. It is a film that questions black representation in Hollywood and beyond. And\, ultimately\, by confronting the deeper connections between the lives and assassination of these three leaders\, Baldwin and Peck have produced a work that challenges the very definition of what America stands for. \n“You would be hard-pressed to find a movie that speaks to the present moment with greater clarity and force\, insisting on uncomfortable truths and drawing stark lessons from the shadows of history.” – A.O. Scott\, The New York Times \n“This Oscar-nominated portrait of James Baldwin uses the author’s words to bridge the civil-rights past with our racially incendiary present. It’s unmissable and unforgettable.” – Peter Travers\, The Rolling Stone \n\n\nRunning Time\n94 mins\nYear\n2016\nRating\nPG-13\nFilmmakers\nRaoul Peck\nFeatures\nJames Baldwin\, Malcolm X\, Martin Luther King Jr\, Medgar Evers\n\n  \n  \nKANOPY\nYou can stream over 26\,000 films from hundreds of popular producers such as The Criterion Collection\, and PBS\, as well as thousands of independent filmmakers—on every topic imaginable. \nWe partner with public libraries to bring you an ad-free experience that can be enjoyed on your TV\, mobile phones\, tablets and online.\n \nHere’s how to get started:\n1. SUMMARY:Yoga with Jessica-FREE
DESCRIPTION:Yoga with Jessica\n\n\n\nJessica’s classes are tailored to what the students need. She loves creating sequences (and playlists) that feel good in the body\, create balance\, strength and ease but love first and foremost hearing what areas students need to send a little extra love and attention to and build on that. Jessica’s favorite kind of practice is where hatha meets vinyasa\, long holds and alignment focused classes meet the fluidity of breath\, movement and fire. Jessica also incorporates meditation and some light breath work which I found immensely nourishing especially in these times. \nJessica’s Background~ \nWith a background in dance and field hockey\, I combine my passion for movement and strength through invigorating sequences. Most recently\, I have been passionate about fluidity and transitions – stepping out of ‘doing’ and into ‘being’. \nI began practicing yoga 12 years ago while living in England and found that yoga helped me stay grounded and mindful in the midst of change. I am most excited to help others cultivate a practice where they can find what they most need in the current moment whether it’s to calm the mind\, energize the body\, embrace community\, embrace themselves or just laugh a little. \nWhen I am not practicing yoga\, I can be found designing\, in a cafe catching up with friends\, or exploring a new part of the city or a new country. I constantly set new goals for myself in my personal and professional pursuits and find joy in the simple pleasures in life along the way. \n\n\n\n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \neventbrite.com/e/yoga-with-jessica\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:TAKE A STROLL THRU HISTORY
DESCRIPTION:THE HISTORIC VENICE CANALS DISTRICT- in Venice Beach\nThe Venice Canals is a historical district in the Venice section of Los Angeles\, California. Nestled between Abbot Kinney Blvd and the Beach\, this area is the location of the last remaining canals which once were the heart of Venice Beach\, California. \n  \nTo find The Historic Venice Canals District \nStart at the Venice Pier. Walk down Washington Blvd\, 1 block past Pacific to the north side bridge\, just before Baja Cantina. You’l find entrances to the walk paths on both sides of the canal. \n  \nAbbot Kinney\nThe Venice Canals began as a dream of one man\, tobacco millionaire\, Abbot Kinney. Kinney had done a walking tour of Italy and was absolutely overcome by the beauty of the canals of Venice. That experience lead Kinney to the grand idea\, to take part of the Coastal Wetlands of Los Angeles\, and turn them  into what he called “Venice of America\,” a luxurious seaside resort that brought a taste of Italy to L. A. \n  \n \nIn 1905 the canals opened to the public and at first\, these canals were all the rage\, a cultural mecca and massive playground complete Amusements\, train rides and every kind of distraction. Beautiful walkways were lined with flowers. Gondoliers took lovers on romantic adventures through the canals and beneath the  beautifully lit bridges. But invention of the automobile\, and the discovery of oil along the coast\, quickly led the City of Los Angeles to fill in most of the canals and build city streets. Although a few of the canals were spared\, Abbot Kinney’s dream soon deteriorated and began attracting crime. \n  \n \nFinally\, after more than 40 years of unsavory residents\, and environmental concerns\, in 1992\, the City restored the canals to their original spender\, and since\, Venice has  become a safe haven of artists of all kinds and everyone and anyone was welcome\, Anyone who could afford it\, that is.   Average home sales are now in the 3-10 million dollar range. \nAlthough\, much of Venice is gone\, much still remains. You just need to know where to look. \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nvisitveniceca.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n
