SUMMARY:Greystone Mansion and Gardens
DESCRIPTION:OPEN DAILY 10am – 5pm- Beverly Hills\nThe historic Greystone Mansion and Gardens is owned by the City of Beverly Hills and is operated through the Department of Community Services – Recreation and Parks Division. \nGreystone Mansion\, and the surrounding grounds it shares its magnificent beauty with\, are rich in California history. Edward Laurence Doheny\, the original proprietor of the Greystone land\, was born in 1856 in the small Midwestern town of Fond du Lac\, Wisconsin. By the time he was a young teen\, Doheny’s adventuresome spirit and love of the wilderness led him to prospecting for gold and soon thereafter\, oil. In 1892\, Doheny and his friend Charles A. Canfield\, were the first to strike oil in Los Angeles. They later discovered large oil deposits in Mexico which\, combined with their Los Angeles holdings\, made them the largest producers of oil in the world at that time. \n \nEdward Doheny and his wife Carrie Louella Wilkins had two children. Their first\, a daughter Eileen\, passed away when she was just seven years old. On November 6\, 1893\, their only son\, Edward “Ned” Laurence Doheny\, Jr.\, was born and grew up as heir to one of the world’s great financial empires. Ned went on to marry Lucy Smith of Pasadena and in 1926 Edward Laurence Doheny Sr. gave his son as a wedding gift a premium parcel of land consisting of 12.58 acres with sweeping citywide views. \n \nConstruction of the palatial manor home began February 15\, 1927 and although Ned\, his wife Lucy\, and their five children moved into the residence in September 1928\, the estate took three years to complete at a cost of over $3 million\, an almost unimaginable sum in real estate at the time. \n\nDue to the current circumstances surrounding COVID-19\, the Doheny Greystone Estate is open to the public by reservation only.  Please make a reservation here:\nbeverlyhills.org/visitgreystone\n \nPark grounds are usually open to the public daily\, but may occasionally be closed for holidays\, filming or special events. \nNo fee for parking or park admission on open park days. \nGreystone Mansion and Gardens is open only for special events. \nFor information on park closings\, weddings\, photography and other private events at Greystone\, contact the Greystone office\, \n310-285-6830\, or visit the Park website at www.beverlyhills.org/Greystone \nHours\nOpen Daily: 10:00am – 5:00pm\nDay Light Savings Hours: 10:00am – 6:00pm \n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.greystonemansion.org/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

An avid outdoorsman from Telluride\, CO\, Trevor was left searching for an exercise to replace the running\, climbing\, and other physically challenging activities that were no longer accessible to him. He found yoga and was hooked. \nTraveling for his technology business\, Trevor practiced various yoga disciplines at yoga studios across the country and found an opportunity to make yoga dynamic\, challenging\, and convenient. \nIn 2002\, Trevor opened the first CorePower Yoga studio on Grant Street in downtown Denver\, CO\, offering a proprietary form of athletic\, heated yoga in modern\, welcoming\, spa-like studios. With six teachers\, including Trevor\, teaching four classes per day\, it took several arduous months before classes began to fill up. But they did. Hear some of LA’s funniest local acts and stick around for karaoke after the show. Happy Hour all night long! Free admission\, must be 21+ to enter. \n\n  \n\n \n6423 Yucca St Los Angeles\, CA 90028 \n  \nA Hidden Gem\n\nLocated off the beaten path\, The North End is hip\, classy\, laid back\, inclusive\, and unpretentious.\nWe offer you the comfort of a neighborhood watering hole\, the libations of a craft cocktail bar\, a warm fireplace & patio\, and a great spirit selection at prices that won’t break the bank. \n \nWith its vintage decor and speakeasy vibe\, The North End is the perfect place to gather for a drink after work or spend a long evening celebrating with friends. A hidden gem\, located north of the hustle and bustle of Hollywood Blvd\, we are a neighborhood bar with class\, in an area dominated by tourist-trap-themed bars and clubs. Our house cocktail menu highlights the use of local herbs and spices\, hand-crafted syrups\, and house-made infusions. We book private and semi-private birthday parties and if booked far enough in advance we will allow you to bring in your own entertainment with a large enough party. Text or call (661)9931612 for more information about reservations and private party booking. \n\n\nMeet the ladies \n\n\n\nCamila Perry\n\nMy first job was at Islands Restaurant in Encino\, when I was 16 years old. I started as a “floor host” which meant I bussed tables\, then moved up to food runner\, and finally\, server. I loved everything about it\, except taking out the trash. I was there for 5 years\, then The Cheesecake Factory for another 5 years\, where I learned how to tend the bar. It was during that time that I graduated from CSUN with my BS in Business. After ten years in the service industry\, I was over it\, I quit! I vowed never to go back. I burned my white uniform and danced around its ashes. I got a “real job” and like so many others before me\, I couldn’t stand it. The hours\, the inflexibility…I found myself bartending again a few years later\, which eventually led me to tend at a little bar called Off Kilt\, which is the bar you now know as The Oaks Tavern. \nMy way into the bar-owning business was not typical. I was a bartender\, then I got offered a partnership if I could dig the bar out of its financial hole. That’s a big jump from bartender to owner. I didn’t realize what I was getting myself into. I cleaned the crap out of the place\, brought on new staff\, brought in craft beer\, upgraded the alcohol selection\, and got a popcorn machine. I tried new things like live bands\, game nights\, and karaoke. I made sure it didn’t smell like a “bar.” A lot of things didn’t work\, but a few did. The bar didn’t make money for a while. It was really tough\, I had a second job doing bottle service on the weekends and then I worked as many shifts at The Oaks as I could\, to save labor. It was literally a lot of blood\, sweat\, and tears\, in the first few years. I almost gave up a few times. Luckily\, I had good friends who talked me out of it. Every time I threatened to run away\, they wouldn’t let me. Then little by little\, it started getting busy. I was able to quit my second job. I had to hire more staff. Three years ago I was able to stop bartending!  Flash forward another to 2019 and I was able to buy The Parlour Room with two of my bartenders and friends- Jenny and Teri\, who you will read about below.  It’s exciting and terrifying all at the same time. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJenny Prehiem\nI’m a California native\, born and raised in the Santa Clarita Valley. My dad believed in having a strong work ethic and taught me that I had to work hard for what I wanted. He was the kind of guy\, that when I called him because my car broke down on railroad tracks\, he’d say “well you better get out and push\, girl!” (Not kidding\, that really happened).  My first job was working at a paintball field on the weekends when I was only fifteen years old. I despised it\, but it taught me that working for your paycheck isn’t as easy or as glamorous as you think when you’re a kid. Things got better from there and at sixteen I landed my first restaurant job at BJ’s Brewery as a hostess.  I spent high school working my way up through hostess\, delivery driver\, and expeditor until I turned 18 and became a restaurant server. The BJ’s crew was like a family to me\, we did everything together. I worked for them for five years where I learned much about running a full-service restaurant and bar from a corporate standpoint. That job supported me through college and  I was heartbroken when I had to leave my store when I moved to Thousand Oaks. Since then I have had multiple families at different restaurants and bars where I’ve worn many different hats; bartender\, event coordinator\, social media marketing\, and manager. I’ve done fine dining at fancy country clubs\, and served fishbowls at dive bars. \n  \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nTerri Cortines\nMy first job was at McDonalds when I was 16\, it wasn’t a great job but it taught me the work ethic and corporate mentality. Then at 21\, I was a “dessert girl” at Victoria Station\, Universal City\, where I would break the bartender\, which is when I found curiosity and love for bartending. Life changed directions for a while and I was the owner/operator of a trucking company for Airborne Express/DHL for 20 years. With my partner Lisa Hite\, we started the business with 5 trucks and built it to 50 trucks and 60 employees! After DHL let go of all their contractors across the United States\, Lisa and I ran a freight forwarding company for a few years until I realized I needed a change. I wanted to do something fun\, so I returned to my first love which was bartending. I am presently bartending at The Oaks Tavern and Universal Bar & Grill where I also work as an entertainment booker.\nAfter eight years behind the bar\, about to have an empty nest\, with my twin girls going off to college\, I find myself in a position to invest in my own bar. It’s exciting to be able to secure a future for myself and my children.  Owning my own bar and running my own business again is a dream come true! \n\n\n\n\nHappy Hour\nHappy Hour is EVERY DAY with 20% off EVERYTHING.\nMonday-Thursday- ALL DAY!\nFriday-Saturday- 5:00-8:00pm\nSundays–2:00pm-8:00pm\nOpen Monday-Thursday 7:00pm-2:00am\nFriday- Saturday 6:00pm-2:00am\nSunday 2:00pm-2:00am \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.northendhollywood.com/\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:The Roost: COMEDY EVERY TUESDAY
DESCRIPTION:EVERY TUESDAY- Los Feliz\n\n\n\n\n\nStand-up comedy showcase every Tuesday at The Roost in Los Feliz hosted by LA comedian Geoffrey Feldman. Featuring comics that have appeared on JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE\, FALLON\, NETFLIX\, & LOCAL CLUBS LIKE THE COMEDY STORE\, THE LAUGH FACTORY. As well as local emerging talent!! \n\n\n\n\n\nOPEN MIC TO FOLLOW THE SHOW (STARTS AROUND 10:30 PM ON TUESDAYS) FREE SHOW! PLENTY OF FREE PARKING! THE BAR IS CASH ONLY! CHILL ASS NEIGHBORHOOD! CIGARETTE STORE ACROSS THE STREET! \n\n \n3100 Los Feliz Blvd\, Los Angeles\, CA 90039 \n  \n \nThe Roost has changed hands many times\, and attempts to peg down an actual opening date have been unsuccessful\, but the bar once had a wigwam on its roof and was called\, fittingly\, the Wigwam. This was likely in the 1950s or ‘60s\, according to one bartender. It was also formerly known as Donna’s Red Carpet and Robin’s Roost. The notoriously heartbroken late singer-songwriter Elliott Smith used to frequent the bar\, which makes sense because to this day after a given hour (around 10 p.m.) the craggy\, old regulars are replaced with a consciously disheveled crowd of musicians and artists. \n \nPlaces like the Roost are quickly becoming extinct in Los Angeles. The counterculture lifestyle as defined by the modern hipster is morphing into the mainstream\, as is its habit of appropriating places\, fashions and art once considered marginal by the masses. One day someone will buy the Roost and turn it into a fancy simulacrum of itself and you’ll be sad that you didn’t know it back when. \n \nMixed drinks are strong and cheap here\, and something in the air at the Roost (maybe the smell of popcorn mixed with a legacy of stale smoke) makes a simple gin and tonic or vodka soda taste like the stuff of gods. Don’t be afraid to order from the well. Yeah\, it’s gut-rot level stuff\, but this is where you drink from the lowest shelf — and like it. \n\nHours\nOpen Daily: 12:00 pm – 2:00 am\nHappy Hour: 12:00 pm – 7:00 pm DAILY\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.eventbrite.com/e/tuesdays-free-stand-up-comedy\nFind more

In fact\, they tend to have better mobility overall.\nVR gaming improves spatial attention in children and gives them the ability to quickly locate a target in a field of distractors\, which has proven to be a good predictor of driving ability.\nPlaying VR games\, which often resemble actual real-world experiences\, helps children translate the skills they learned in these educational VR environments to the real world.\nAccording to recent research\, children that play shooting games have increased vision capabilities. Scientists have found that the fast-paced games increase adrenaline and dopamine in the brain which helps maintain and improve brain health.\nVR gaming increases mental flexibility and improves a child’s ability to quickly switch seamlessly between tasks with conflicting demands.\nVR games are a great way to reduce stress and depression in children. Immersing in a VR game can result in short and long-term mood boost that helps them relax and unwind\, decreasing the levels of stress a person may be experiencing.\n\n  \n \n\nCome to The Inglewood Public Library and “check out” their new selection of video games\, for Playstation 4\, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One\, that you can borrow\, just like you would borrow a book? \n \nDid you finish your homework? SUMMARY:California African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair
DESCRIPTION:California African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair\nFREE! TUES – SUNDAY- Exposition Park\nThe California African American Museum (CAAM) focuses on enrichment and education on the cultural heritage and history of African Americans with a focus on California and western United States. \nAdmission is free to all visitors. The California African American Museum’s mission is to research\, collect\, preserve\, and interpret for public enrichment the history\, art\, and culture of African Americans with an emphasis on California and the western United States. \n \nCalifornia African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair\n  \nCAAM’s permanent collection consists of over 4\,000 objects ranging from the 1800s to the present. It encompasses paintings\, photographs\, film\, sculpture\, historical documents\, and artifacts\, and it spans nineteenth-century landscape paintings to modern artworks to contemporary mixed-media reflections on cultural and political events. \n \n  \nThe Museum’s first acquisitions included a bronze bust of civil rights activist Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune by artist Richmond Barthé and a sculpture by artist Maren Hassinger\, then at the start of her career. These laid the perfect groundwork for CAAM’s mandate to assemble a comprehensive\, thoughtful\, and wide-reaching collection. \n \n  \nCAAM’s deepest holdings include art made or connected to African Americans in California and the western United States. However\, the Museum also has significant works of contemporary art from the African diaspora (including Haiti\, Brazil\, and Jamaica)\, as well as traditional African art from Western\, Central\, and Sub-Saharan Africa. CAAM aims to represent the diverse contributions of African Americans in the United States\, but also to interpret how the past has affected identity in the present. \nCalifornia African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair\nToday\, CAAM oversees\, exhibits\, and conserves a rapidly growing collection. Each quarter\, curators review the current holdings and decide as a committee on future acquisitions. We view our collection as a living body — constantly evolving\, growing\, and reflecting the world in which we live. \n \n  \nSome examples of CAAM’s collection include the Walter Burrell Collection of audio recordings of Burrell’s interviews with African American celebrities\, broadcast by a local radio station in the early 1970s; the oral histories of Celes King\, who was both a local civil rights activist as well as a former Tuskegee airman; and selections from the collection of visual artist John Outterbridge. \n  \n \nHours\nTuesdays – Saturdays: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.\nSundays: 11:00 a.m.-5:00p.m.\nMondays: Closed \nCalifornia African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \ncaamuseum.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:FOWLER MUSEUM AT UCLA
DESCRIPTION:FREE EVERY DAY! @ UCLA\nThe Fowler Museum at UCLA explores global arts and cultures with an emphasis on works from Africa\, Asia\, the Pacific\, and the Americas—past and present. The Fowler enhances understanding and appreciation of the diverse peoples\, cultures\, and religions of the world through dynamic exhibitions\, publications\, and public programs\, informed by interdisciplinary approaches and the perspectives of the cultures represented. \nAlso featured is the work of international contemporary artists presented within the complex frameworks of politics\, culture and social action. \nFowler Museum at UCLA provides exciting\, informative and thought-provoking exhibitions and events for the UCLA community and the people of greater Los Angeles and beyond. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAreas of the Collection\n\n\n\n\nARTS OF AFRICA AND THE AFRICAN DIASPORA\n \nOne of the largest and finest in the United States\, and one of the top twenty African collections worldwide\, this collection offers a superb representation of the arts of many African nations\, including objects from Senegal\, Nigeria\, Ghana\, Cameroon\, Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire)\, Kenya\, Zambia\, and South Africa. The Yoruba collection alone is one of the three finest in the world. It contains a spectacular array of beaded objects\, including a majestic throne\, elaborate chiefly gowns\, and sophisticated divination regalia. \nA collection of post-apartheid election materials and contemporary South African art is being developed\, as are a number of collections of popular urban arts from countries including Tanzania and Muslim Senegal. Recently\, more than 400 textiles made by the Kuba peoples of the Democratic Republic of the Congo were gifted by the Christensen Foundation. \nThe collection represents some of the finest examples of men’s embroidered raffia pile cloths and women’s appliqué cloths. This collection complements already significant holdings of West African textiles from countries such as Mali and Ghana\, including kente and adinkra cloth and Asafo flags. The museum also has significant holdings of arts from the African Americas\, notably arts of Haitian Vodou\, Brazil and Suriname. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nARTS OF THE AMERICAS\n \nThese holdings include a comprehensive collection of pre-Columbian ceramics with the best representations from West Mexico\, the Valley of Mexico\, and pre-Columbian Peru (with special strengths in the art of the Moche). The Fowler also possesses a cohesive collection of Guatemalan costumes; an extensive collection of Mexican clothing; textiles of Peru; and a comprehensive representation of field-collected market materials from Michoacan\, Mexico. Complementing the pre-Columbian collections are field collections of the Warao and Yecuana Indians of the Orinoco Delta of Venezuela and contemporary Latin American popular arts including Mexican trees of life\, Day of the Dead figures\, and masks from Metepec\, Oaxaca\, Michoacan\, Jalisco\, Peubla\, and Guanajuato. \nNative American materials from the U.S. and Canada are a small but significant part of the collection. Materials from the United States and Canada include well-known Northwest Coast material\, as well as a notable cross section of late nineteenth-century Inuit art and material culture. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nARTS OF ASIA AND THE PACIFIC \n \n  \nThe Fowler Museum at UCLA collections from Insular Southeast Asia\, including Indonesia\, the Philippines\, Malaysia\, and aboriginal Taiwan\, are among the strongest in the United States. The Indonesian and Philippine textiles reinforce the Fowler Museum’s standing as a major repository for the textile arts. Also included are significant collections of sculptural material from Sumatra\, Borneo\, Sulawesi\, and Luzon\, puppetry from Java and Bali\, basketry from Indonesia and Philippines\, and metalwork from the Philippines. The primary strength of the Pacific collections lies in materials from Papua New Guinea\, especially the Papuan Gulf\, Trobriand Islands\, Sepik River\, and Maprik region. Australia and Polynesia are also represented by sizeable collections\, including 45 rare Maori cloaks. \nThe collections from mainland Asia are smaller but growing rapidly\, due to current collecting priorities. A collection of betel-chewing paraphernalia\, representing several countries in South and Southeast Asia\, is considered one of the finest in the world. Other holdings include textiles from Bhutan\, Pakistan\, India and Japan\, baskets and decorative arts from Japan\, puppetry from China\, Thailand\, India\, and Turkey\, and art and artifacts from Nepal. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nARCHAEOLOGICAL COLLECTIONS\n \nThe Fowler Museum at UCLA also serves as a repository for archaeological collections acquired during research conducted by UCLA faculty\, staff\, students\, and other professional archaeologists. Documentation of the collections includes artifact catalogs\, excavation notes\, maps\, and photographs. These collections serve primarily as an archive for teaching and research. The Museum is compliant with guidelines mandates by the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and has been signaled out by the State of California for its exemplary efforts. \nArchaeological collection areas include: \nCalifornia \nCollections from approximately 1100 sites\, mostly in Southern California. \nSouthwest \nSignificant collections from the Rainbow Bridge-Monument Valley Expedition of 1933-1938 and several Parowan Fremont sites in Utah excavated in the 1950’s\, and other Anasazi and Hohokam sites. \nMexico \nIncludes objects from 218 sites\, mostly in western and central Mexico. \nSudan \nThe Nubian/Egyptian fortress site at Askut is the source of approximately 60\,000 artifacts excavated by UCLA archaeologist Alexander Badawy in conjunction with the Aswan High Dam Salvage Campaign\, 1962-1964. \nOld World stone tool collection \nIncludes tools from Europe and the Middle East. \n\n\nMUSEUM HOURS\n\n\n\n\nAdmission is FREE \nMonday: closed\nTuesday: closed\nWednesday: 12 – 8pm\nThursday: 12 – 5pm\nFriday: 12 – 5pm\nSaturday: 12 – 5pm\nSunday: 12 – 5pm \n\n\n\n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nfowler.ucla.edu\n \n\n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:COME LIGHT UP THE NIGHT
DESCRIPTION:EVERY WEDNESDAY NIGHT @ South Beach Park in Santa Monica.\nGlow Flow at Santa Monica’s South Beach\, is a night time event\, that turns the beach into a playground of light.  Local artists spin various lighted objects to create one of a kind moments of kinetic art. A fantastic group of artists & dancers who work with LED Hula Hoops and other LED apparatus they can spin\, toss\, throw in the air\, etc. \n \n Very friendly and talented peeps.  \n \nCelebrating our love of  the FLOW at Glow Flow Santa Monica!\n\n\n\n\nHow to Capture the Glow Flow Moment\nIf spin isn’t your thing\, how about photography. Here are different ways to shoot Glow Flow Santa Monica. \nGOLDEN HOUR / BLUE HOUR\nYou can shoot available light for images of the artists. \nSLOW SHUTTER SPEED\nAs Glow Flow gets dark\, you can use a slow shutter speed to let the moving LED devices draw amazing “spirograph” shapes with light against the night sky. \nSLOW SYNC\nYou can combine both elements with slow sync or rear sync. A long shutter speed captures traces from LED Hula Hoops and then your on-or-off-camera flash lights the artist. \nTHE BEST FLASH?\nI haven’t had the best results with built-in pop-up flash. I like using an external flash in the hot-shoe. At Glow Flow\, We often say that having flash off the hot-shoe produces better lighting. For me\, in this case\, I think there’s so much going on\, that hot-shoe mounted flash works well. You could bring a light stand and battery powered strobe which might look great but seems like a lot of gear. \nTRIPOD?\nIf you use flash\, it will freeze the artist\, and the point-light-sources of the LEDs effectively freeze themselves\, so you can shoot this handheld. However\, you will get crisper images if you use a tripod. \nBRACKET\, BRACKET\, BRACKET!\nAs you can imagine\, dialing in your exposure can be a bit complicated! Plan to try a variety of different shutter speeds to see what works with the LEDs. SUMMARY:Trivia Night @ ArtBarLA
DESCRIPTION:EVERY WEDNESDAY- Mar Vista\nJoin us at The Art Bar /LA in Mar Vista Every Wednesday at 8:00pm for Trivia Night. This hour of fun that will test you mind. is hosted by Stiofán \n\n\n\nCash and Drink Prizes\, Free to enter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n \nA Creative Celebration\n\n\nArtBarLA\, located in Mar Vista\, is a space that showcases the work of all types of creatives.  It is the best of what the Los Angeles art world has to offer. The artwork accepted into our monthly group shows is solely based on the quality of work rather than the artists’ exhibit and sales history.  This allows us to introduce new and under exposed talent.  Because we cater to an over 21 audience\, artists are allowed to express themselves freely without the threat of censorship.  Our outside murals will be changed out approximately every six months and our patrons will also be entertained by live painters. \n \nHaving a stage opens up the range of artistic expression even further.  In addition to the visual arts\, the stage will provide anything from performance art\, bands and DJ’s to over the top shows from burlesque to magic and beyond.  We will also host artists talks as ArtBarLA is a gathering place for the community\, innovators and free thinkers in the art world.  ArtBarLA is an open space for open minds.  This sense of openness and innovation will bring something to the art world Los Angeles has yet to experience. \nArtBarLA is a delight to the senses\,\nnot limited to sight and sound\, but taste as well.  We have partnered with local breweries to provide fine artisan craft beers which can be consumed straight from the tap or bottle or enjoyed in a tasty beer cocktail.  All beverages will be savored in our unique setting.  Guests can sit back and relax in our whimsical bar and lounge area.  Every piece of eclectic furniture has been carefully curated to provide a fun\, playful experience. \nFollow us on Instagram and Facebook: @artbarla or contact us at artbarlainfo@gmail.com \n\nHours\nMonday & Tuesday: Closed\nWednesday – Thursday: 6:00pm – 11:00pm\nFriday: 6:00pm – 12:00pm\nSaturday: 6:00pm – 1:00pm\nSunday: 2:00pm – 8:00pm \n\n\n\n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.artbarla.com/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
