SUMMARY:Classic Car Show at Bob's
DESCRIPTION:EVERY FRIDAY- in Burbank\nThe Classic Car Show at Bob’s Big Boy\, has been a tradition in Burbank for years. A buzzy retro scene begins to unfold as enthusiasts cruise in looking for prime spots where the tower sign’s red neon might reflect off their freshly polished hoods. Weekly cars shows are a slice of Americana\, but no place does them quite like Bob’s Big Boy®\, where the food is hot and the cars are hotter. \n\n\nClassic Car Show at Bob’s Big Boy\nThe Classic Car Show at Bob’s Big Boy is presented by Downtown Burbank Partnership\, a non-profit organization. The event is an exciting showcase for custom\, celebrity\, exotics\, and classic cars\, and motorcycles. \nThese automotive masterpieces will stretch along San Fernando Boulevard and adjacent streets in Downtown Burbank’s outdoor shopping-dining and entertainment district. \nPeople say\, “It’s American Grafitti come to life.” Big-block Chevy’s. Hot Rod Lincolns. Leave the Hybrid at home. Happy days are here again thanks to Bob’s Big Boy® and the Road Kings of Burbank. Weekly cars shows are a slice of Americana\, but no place does them quite like Bob’s Big Boy®\, where the food is hot and the cars are hotter. \n\nYou will see Vintage Classics\nBrian Wilson\, the genius behind the Beach Boys\, showed up to take in the little deuce coupes he used to sing about. And Jay Leno\, well he’s more than just a regular. \nIn tune with Downtown Burbank’s location in the heart of the entertainment industry\, vehicles with a “Hollywood” twist are especially welcome — such as those appearing in film or television\, or having a distinguished history of celebrity ownership. \nEvery Friday from 4-10pm\, Bob’s Big Boy® Burbank hosts Southern California’s best antique car show. Come see why we’ve become the center of the car-crazed universe. Included will be family entertainment\, music\, vendor-booths and prizes. \nThe event will happen rain or shine. \n\n\n  \nFind more information @ \nhttps://bobs.net\n \nFind more

SUMMARY:Dockweiler Beach Fire Pits
DESCRIPTION:EVERY DAY ’til MIDNIGHT- Dockweiler State Beach\nThe Dockweiler Beach Fire Pits are located about 3 miles south of Playa del Rey\, this inviting beach features 3 miles of shoreline\, an RV park\, and over 2\,000 regular vehicle parking spaces. The wide sandy beach lies beneath the departures flight path of LAX\, offering fantastic belly views of airlines headed out over the Pacific. The lot entrance is at Vista del Mar and Imperial Highway. \n\n\nFIRE PITS RULES\n\n\n\n\n\nAny grills or BBQs must fit inside the fire pit\, which is 2′ wide. No grills\, grilling\, or flames or fires on the sand.\nTo use the fire pits\, you bring your own charcoal or wood and a way to light them.\nPlease do not use sand to put out the fire.\nHelp keep our beaches clean by preventing ashes or debris from falling into the sand.\n\n  \n\n\n\nThere’s no better way to end a fun day at the beach than to circle up around a cozy bonfire. Not all California beaches allow bonfires\, but here in the Marina del Rey area\, we’re lucky that Dockweiler State Beach does permit regulated burns in provided fire rings. Follow these tips to ensure your group has an enjoyable time. \n\nIf you want a pit\, arrive early. From May through September\, the pits are in high demand\, especially on the weekends\, and there are some diehards who arrive at dawn to claim their spots for the entire day. You cannot reserve fire pits as you would a campsite. Do not leave your pit unattended\, even for a quick dip in the ocean – if you do\, don’t be surprised to find another group has taken over the site. There are between 60 – 80 fire pits located just north and south of where Vista del Mar intersects with Imperial Highway. That sounds like a lot\, but consider that Dockweiler is also home to an RV park\, and you’re all competing for space.\nBring everything you need – wood\, s’mores\, snacks\, et cetera (see “Your Packing List” below).\nThe beach and all amenities close at midnight.\nBefore you leave\, snuff out the flame with water. Stir the embers after they are covered with water and make sure that everything is saturated. Do not use sand to distinguish the fire\, as it creates a mess for the next guest.\n\n \nYOUR PACKING LIST\n\nWood and charcoal (wood for that nice bonfire and charcoal for cooking – see below about barbecue rules). Both can be purchased at Ralph’s grocery stores: 4700 Admiralty Way\, Marina del Rey; 8701 Lincoln Boulevard\, Playa del Rey. Only burn clean wood (nothing treated with paint\, chemicals\, etc.) in the pits.\nFire starter and a lighter. You can purchase kindling from most any grocery\, home supply\, or sporting-goods store. Or\, prepare your own starter with this old-school camping craft: Fill a cardboard egg carton with dryer lint\, wood shavings\, paper shreds\, or other ignitable materials. Pour a small amount of melted candle wax into each cup to make things stay put. Break off cups individually and place into your wood stack. Light the cardboard cups and watch how easy your fire takes off – even in the wind.\nIf barbecuing\, note that large stand-up barbeques are NOT allowed on the sand or in the parking lots. However\, you can bring a low-profile version and place it inside the fire ring.\nLong-handle grilling sticks. These are great for cooking hot dogs and kabobs and roasting marshmallows.\nHot glove or mitt. Don’t ruin your night with a burn from handling hot wood\, pots\, or grills. Items like the Ove Glove offer protection while still allowing dexterity.\nFood! Doubt you’ll forget this\, but you may want a separate checklist so that you remember all the elements for your meal. It’s easy to overlook things like serving spoons\, plastic utensils\, salt and pepper\, napkins or wet wipes\, and containers for leftovers. Paper plates are great for cookouts since they’re ok to burn in the fire afterward.\nCamp/beach table. Depending on the size of your group\, you may prefer to set up your dinner fixings buffet style on a simple folding table. Whatever you bring\, remember that you’ll need to carry it across the sand to the pit and back to the parking lot at the end of your evening. So only take what you really need.\nYou’ll want a beverage cooler with ice\, especially if you heed our warning and arrive early in the day to claim your spot. A bag to hold discarded recyclables is a good idea\, too.\nComfort items. Ask each person in your group to bring his or her own beach chair or picnic blanket. Remind them that despite warm daytime temps\, the beach cools down a lot at night; having extra blankets and jackets is a smart move.\n\n  \n  \n  \nClick here to read beach rules and regulations at LA County Beaches including Dockweiler State Beach. \n  \nDOCKWEILER STATE BEACH PARKING INFORMATION\nParking at Dockweiler State Beach costs between $6 (weekday\, low season) and $13 (weekend\, high season) and there are no in/outs. If you leave the lot\, you must pay again to enter. The first 300 cars to arrive during weekdays pay a reduced rate of $3; during weekends and L.A. County holidays\, the reduced rate for the first 300 cars is $5. There is limited street parking on Vista del Mar\, but take note of the parking signage. Click for an interactive parking map with fees and times. \n  \nHours\nMonday – Sunday: 6:00 a.m.- 12:00 Midnight \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nvisitmarinadelrey.com/dockweiler-state-beach\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Train Rides in Torrance
DESCRIPTION:EVERY 1st SUNDAY & 3rd SATURDAY- Wilson Park\, Torrance\nSouthern California Live Steamers provides mini-train rides on public run days every first Sunday of the month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and every third Saturday of the month from noon to 3 p.m. All SCLS members are City of Torrance volunteers with annual fingerprint clearance and are not paid for their time expended on maintaining the trains and facility\, and providing the rides.Donations are appreciated. \n  \n \nIn 1987\, for the Torrance 75th anniversary event\, the City of Torrance asked SCLS if they could set up a small track on the back end of Wilson Park. At the time this was a vacant lot\, no trees and only weeds for vegetation. Considerable effort was expended by both the City and SCLS to prepare the area and lay the tracks necessary to run the trains. During the City’s 75th Anniversary Celebration in October 1987\, the free train rides were so well received by the public that the City sought to have SCLS run the trains on a regular basis. On May 11\, 1990\, the City and SCLS entered into a 25-year License Agreement allowing SCLS to provide free train rides at Wilson Park on a regular basis. A new home was found! \nANOTHER 25 YEARS \nThe mini-train rides have become a popular feature of Wilson Park. Originally\, free train rides were offered once a month on the first Sunday of each month. Today\, SCLS provides free train rides twice a month on the first Sunday and third Saturday of each month\, and on special occasions. The City and SCLS entered into another 25-year lease agreement thru May 11\, 2040. \nSouthern California Live Steamers\, Inc. operates as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization under IRS rules and is a registered California non-profit corporation. All of the income for the operation of SCLS is derived by donations from its members\, passengers and corporate sponsors\, and thru fundraisers. SCLS does not charge the passengers for rides on public run days\, though donations are accepted from our riders on public run days which is on the 1st Sunday and 3rd Saturday of each month. Funds received are used to pay SCLS expenses such as insurance\, maintenance costs\, facility upgrades\, fuel\, track repairs\, future track projects\, and other expenses. All SCLS members are City of Torrance volunteers and are not paid for their time expended on club projects or operations. \nmers \n  \nHours\n3rd Saturdays: 12:00pm – 3:00pm\n1st Sundays: 11:00am – 3:00pm \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.torranceca.gov/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

We start gathering about 9am just north of Venice Blvd on Abbot Kinney Blvd. intage is preferred but all makes\, models\, and years are welcome. Bring your sense of adventure and a willingness to let go and just ride! \n1625 Abbot Kinney BoulevardVenice\, CA\, 90291 (map) \n9 am – Meet\n10 am – Kickstands up!\n12 pm – Return\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVintage preferred\, but all years\, makes\, and models are welcome!\nWe would like to stress that this is a safe and fun ride. \nSome guidelines for the ride: \n\n\nWe leave at 10 am sharp! \n\n\nBe gassed up and ready to go. \n\n\nDo not pass our Road Captains.  They are there to lead and keep everyone together. \n\n\nNo lane splitting in large rides. \n\n\nKeep your lines clean & eyes open! \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Story of VVMC\nIt all started in a garage in Venice…\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Venice Vintage Motorcycle Club is dedicated to the preservation and celebration of vintage motorcycles and of motorcycle culture.  We honor the craftsmanship and inherent beauty found in the design of all vintage motorbikes as something potent\, influential and representative of a time lost to history\, where things were built with pride and made to last. \nThe VVMC is a band of brothers and sisters compromised of more than 30 individuals faithful to and united by the love of riding and maintaining old motorcycles. Old bikes brought us together and we ride them like their maker intended.  Sometimes a little faster than that. \nWith our roots in Southern California\, we are committed to supporting our community in Venice and maintaining inclusion towards others upon the alter of the old machine. \n\n\n\nGeneral Questions\n\n\n\n\nQ: What do you consider “Vintage?”\nSome say 20\, some say 30 years old. We consider vintage to be pre ’79. It was around this time that bikes of most major manufacturers started to take on a more modern look. As well\, it was the last year Honda released a bike with a kick-start. That said\, we’re not snobs so don’t worry about it…unless it’s Wednesday. \nQ: Where and when do you ride?\nWe host a 3rd Sunday Ride every month. All makes\, models\, and years are welcome. See details on our Events Page. \nWednesday nights are club night and strictly vintage. Make friends with a member and you may just get an invite. The VVMC hosts various other rides and events throughout the year. Sign up for our mailing list and follow us on Facebook and Instagram to stay updated. \nQ: Do I have to be a member to join the rides?\nNope. Hop on your bike and come ride with us! \nQ: Does my bike have to be vintage to join the ride?\nNope. Vintage is preferred but all makes\, models\, and years are welcome \nQ: Can I join the VVMC?\nThe VVMC is a not a subscription type organization. It’s a small\, tight group of like-minded (and a bit crazy) friends. If you’re serious about joining the clan\, here’s the simple law: \n\nYou MUST own & ride a vintage (pre ’79) bike.\nPlan on riding with us and being active in the group for at least a year. Showing up on occasion doesn’t cut it. The patch must be thoroughly earned.\nWe expect you to volunteer your time at our events. Jump in and help out!\nDon’t be a tool… but maybe bring some with you (actual tools that is).\n\nQ: How can I stay informed about your rides & events?\nMake sure to sign up on our Email List\, check out our Events Page\, and find us on Facebook and Instagram. That should just about cover it. \n\n\nCome out and ride with us. \n\n\n\n\nSee You There!\n-VVMC \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nvenicevintage.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Mount Wilson Observatory
DESCRIPTION:OPEN WEEKENDS- Mt Wilson\nMount Wilson Observatory is located on the summit of Mount Wilson above Pasadena at an altitude of 5715 feet. Mount Wilson Observatory is visible from much of the Los Angeles area. Free of charge\, this is a must see experience. \n  \n \n\n\nViewing through the 100-Inch Hooker Telescope\nThe world’s largest telescope from 1917 to 1949\, the 100-inch Telescope forever changed our understanding of the scale and nature of our Universe and launched a revolution in astronomy that continues through today. This world-heritage class instrument\, used by many of the greatest astronomers of the Twentieth Century\, has only recently been made available for regular public viewing. It is the largest telescope in the world that you can rent! Imagine looking through the telescope used by astronomers Edwin Hubble and Milton Humason in the late 1920s to measure the expansion of the Universe. \n\n  \n \nThe 60 inch Telescope\nMount Wilson Observatory’s 60-inch telescope was completed in 1908 by Observatory founder George Ellery Hale with funding from Andrew Carnegie. It was the world’s largest operational telescope until Hale went on to complete the Mt. Wilson 100-inch telescope in 1917. For a more detailed history of this revolutionary instrument\, which became the model for all large observatory telescopes of the future\, see the article “Building the 60-inch Telescope.” Among the many important discoveries from the 60-inch telescope was Harlow Shapley’s revelation in 1918 that the accepted view of the time\, that our Sun was near the center of the Milky Way Galaxy\, was wrong. Shapley used the light gathering power of the 60-inch to show that our solar system is instead half way out toward the edge of our Galaxy. The telescope was a workhorse instrument for astronomy for over half a century and used by astronomical luminaries such as Edwin Hubble\, Walter Baade\, and Allan Sandage to unravel the secrets of stars and galaxies. Now retired from active scientific service\, the 60-inch and the 100-inch telescopes are the largest in the world made exclusively available to the public. With their large light-collecting mirrors and the exquisite skies over Mount Wilson\, these historic telescopes provide an unrivaled and unique astronomical experience. \n\n\n\n\n\nCHARA (Center for High Angular Resolution Astronomy)\nMount Wilson’s newest astronomical instruments are Georgia State University’s optical interferometric array of six telescopes. This facility\, located here because of the exceptional seeing conditions\, puts Mount Wilson back on the cutting edge of astrophysics. The full array was completed in 2004. Each telescope of the CHARA Array has a light-collecting mirror 1-meter in diameter. The telescopes are dispersed over the mountain to provide a two-dimensional layout that provides the resolving capability (but not the light collecting ability!) of a single telescope a fifth of a mile in diameter. Light from the individual telescopes is conveyed through vacuum tubes to a central Beam Synthesis Facility in which the six beams are combined together. When the paths of the individual beams are matched to an accuracy of less than one micron\, after the light traverses distances of hundreds of meters\, the Array then acts like a single coherent telescope for the purposes of achieving exceptionally high angular resolution. The Array is capable of resolving details as small as 200 micro-arcseconds\, equivalent to the angular size of a nickel seen from a distance of 10\,000 miles. In terms of the number and size of its individual telescopes\, its ability to operate at visible and near infrared wavelengths\, and its longest baselines of 330 meters\, the CHARA Array is arguably the most powerful instrument of its kind in the world. \nScience Objectives\nThe Array is applicable to problems in almost all areas of contemporary astronomy. It is particularly suited to stellar astrophysics where it will be used to measure the diameters\, distances\, masses\, and luminosities of stars\, as well as to image features such as spots and flares on their surfaces. Other projects range from detecting planetary systems\, imaging stars in process of formation\, and studies of bright transient phenomena like novae. \nFor more information on this amazing research facility and the science that is emerging from it\, please go to the CHARA array homepage. There you can find a video\, Sizing up the Stars\, that explains how interferometry works. \n\n\n\n \nAstronomical Museum\nAlso on the mountain\, next to the 100-inch telescope\, there is a new exhibit hall that displays Albert Michelson’s original interferometer\, used to get the first measurement of stars other than our Sun.  The exhibit hall reveals in detail how the light is combined in the new CHARA area. \nWeekend Public Guided Tours\n\n\n\n\n\nDocent-led walking tours of the observatory take place on Saturdays and Sundays through November 29. The two hour tours depart at 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. sharp from the Cosmic Cafe located above the large parking lot at the entrance to the Observatory. A special feature of these tours is entrance into both the 60-inch and 100-inch telescope domes\, as well as the observing room of the 150-foot Solar Tower Telescope.  On rare occasions\, a telescope may be closed to the tour due to a special event or maintenance. \n\n\nPurchasing Tickets \nTickets are $15 (adults) and $13 (ages 12 and under & 62 and older). Tour tickets are available for same-day purchase at the Cosmic Café\, and rarely sell out. For each tour\, 15 spots are available. \nIf you have a large group\, we urge you to opt for a private tour instead. These can be arranged by sending an email request to tours@mtwilson.edu. \nChildren under age 6 are not permitted. The tours involve about a mile of walking and climbing some stairs. Please read the Health Notice in the information tab. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrivate Group Tours\nPrivate guided tours may be arranged by individuals or groups in advance. A modest per-person fee is charged. More information is available here. Please contact tours@mtwilson.edu for more details and a private tour request form. Private tours are held in the daytime only and do not include looking through a telescope. \n\n\n Weather conditions may occasionally result in unscheduled closures. Access to Mount Wilson is via the Angeles Crest Highway (CA Hwy 2) from the 210 Freeway at La Canada Flintridge. You can download a printable PDF map with directions here.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Cosmic Café Sandwich Shop\nCome up the mountain for a wonderful lunch in an incomparable setting. Located in the Pavilion above the main parking lot\, serves fresh-made sandwiches and other treats and souvenirs on Saturdays and Sundays through early November\, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. \n  \n\n\n \nFree Self Guided Tours\nIf you are planning ahead and would like a nice guide of your visit\, Print your own free brochure for a self-guided tour and map of Mount Wilson. \n\n\n\nAn Interactive Map\nTo explore the telescopes and other sites on observatory online\, click on the interactive map of the Observatory\, above. \n  \n\n\n \nA 13-page Visitors Guide is also available for purchase at the Cosmic Café. Written by Hal McAlister\, the second director of the Mount Wilson Institute and founder of CHARA\, it is a well-illustrated guide to all the points of interest on the mountaintop. \n\n\n\n\nElevation Warning\nThe high elevation of the Observatory (5715 ft) and the change in elevation during the approximately one-mile and two-hour long tour are unsuitable for individuals with respiratory and heart problems or with limited mobility. \nThe century-old facilities are not ADA-compliant and\, except for the Astronomical Museum and the Cosmic Cafe\, offer no access to those who cannot climb multiple flights of stars. Thus\, tours of the Observatory\, either guided or unguided\, are inappropriate for some elderly people and for those who are not in good health. \nVisitors should take these factors into consideration before touring the Observatory. \n\n\n\nParking\n\n\n\nA U.S. Forest Service Adventure Pass is required to park at the Observatory\, as it is located on U.S. Forest Service land. A day pass may be purchased at the Cosmic Cafe (when it is open from April 4 to November 29 in 2020) on weekends between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Other times\, the $5 day pass or the $30 dollar annual pass may be purchased at many locations around Los Angeles before you head up.  Click here to go to the U.S. Forest Service website for more information about the Adventure Pass and where to buy them. Their website has a place to enter your location to search for nearby vendors. The Shell station in La Canada at the bottom of the Angeles Crest Highway should be selling them as well. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n</div> \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHours\nApril 1 – November 1 Saturday – Sunday: 10:00am – 5:00pm \nDecember 1 – March 31 Saturday – Sunday: : 10am – 4:00pm \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.mtwilson.edu/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Graham Garden
DESCRIPTION:OPEN EVERY DAY- DTLA Wells Fargo Center\n \nGraham Garden integrates Fountain Figures I-IV\, a collection of graceful sculptures created by late Los Angeles artist Robert Graham\, in a newly designed outdoor plaza at Halo. For over fifty years\, Robert Graham’s observation of the female form and use of scale allowed him to explore and create a range of intimate sized works and large public monuments\, widely celebrated for their precise iconic detail. \nThe sculptures were originally part of CRA/LA’s mission in 1985 to incorporate public art in redevelopment projects and revitalize Downtown Los Angeles. The four sculptures are currently situated in an exterior landscaped setting that Graham’s son\, Steven Graham\, consulted on as part of the renovation at Wells Fargo Center. \n  \n \nRobert Graham\, was a Mexican born sculptor\, and although you may not be familiar with his name\, you probably ARE familiar with some of his work. Graham’s monumental bronzes commemorate the human figure\, and are featured in 11 public places in and around the city of Angels. Including; The Olympic Gateway at the Memorial Coliseum\, The Torso at Rodeo Drive\, The Great Bronze Doors and Statue of Mary at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels\, and The Dance Door – Los Angeles Music Center \n  \n \nAnd now\, you can see his latest collection. The Robert Graham Sculpture Garden gracefully nestled in the newly designed outdoor plaza at Halo\, at Wells Fargo Center. \nThis collection is a unique addition\, to the Olympic Celebration\, coming to LA in 2028\, The collection of four bronze fountain figures\, was inspired by gymnastic athleticism\, strength\, and beauty. Fountain waters flow over bronze and granite pedestals into a shallow reflecting pools\, which are integrated into the Halo’s landscape. \nYou will find the Robert Graham Sculpture Garden at the very top of Bunker Hill\, in DTLA at 330 S Hope St between Hope and Grand. \n  \nGraham Garden are open 24/7\nThe Graham Sculpture Garden is within walking distance of MOCA\, The Broad\, The Walt Disney Concert Hall\, The Music Center\, Grand Park\, Angels Flight and Grand Central Market. SUMMARY:SEE A REAL ROCKET UP CLOSE
DESCRIPTION:ON DISPLAY DAILY @ SpaceX Headquarters\, Hawthorne\nWould you like to see a real SpaceX Falcon 9 here in LA? You Can!  Outside the SpaceX’s headquarters in Southern California. The company which created the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch mounted the 156-foot-tall (47-meter) gigantic space machine on vertical display for its significant milestone and as a testament to the perseverance of its founder\, and chief engineer Elon Musk\, who wants to reduce the cost of colonizing Mars by developing a fleet of fully reusable spaceships. \n  \n \nThe rocket on display is the first SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket to land successfully after years of research and experiment\, during which the company switched from its initial plan to retrieve rockets with parachutes to a very thoughtful idea of involving multiple engine restarts\, landing legs\, and precision landing algorithms. \nSpaceX  Falcon 9 rocket successfully stage landed at Cape Canaveral after a Dec. 21 launch with 11 Orbcomm communications satellites on vertical display. The rocket is a jaw-dropping out-of-space scientific attraction visible to passersby on nearby streets and freeways. The rocket is located near the southeast corner of SpaceX headquarters at the intersection of Crenshaw Blvd. and Jack Northrop Ave. in Hawthorne\, California\, a suburb of Los Angeles. \n  \n \nThe historic masterpiece had to undergo thorough scrubbing and treatment to wash away soot residue it gathered from flying through its own exhaust\, before it was brought to Hawthorne for permanent exhibition in front of SpaceX’s main building with the help of two heavy-lifting cranes. \nSpaceX Falcon 9 rocket boosters that were recovered since its first mission are being put to use again and again as SpaceX has now flown a previously flown first stage on a satellite launch. This is the result of a successful five-year technology development program to develop reusable rocket launch systems. \n\n\nWant to see a real rocket launch?\n \nDon’t miss any of the exciting Rocket Launches Now Scheduled from the Vandenberg AFB in Southern California. \nParents\, time to round up the whole family and take everyone out of to see real rocket fly through the sky. Anywhere that has a good west facing view of the Southern California sky\, is great. Beaches are especially good locations\, because of the lack of light over the ocean.  Take a look at the video below\, of a recent SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket Launch from Vandenberg AFB. \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nspacex.com/falcon-9\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

That’s the beauty — and the freedom — of a virtual run.\n\n\nVirtual runs are races that can be completed from anywhere in the world. Whether you walk or run doesn’t matter\, and neither does your skill level. If you’re looking to get in shape\, want to up your game with new challenges\, or are just looking for something fun\, virtual races give you the opportunity to nail your goal.\n\n\nAdidas Runners LA Virtual Runs Include;\nFREE Tempo Run\nThe Tempo Run is a moderate sustained effort sandwiched between a warm up and cool down. The run is either 4 or 6 miles distances at an easy pace. \nWe participate in  a proper Warm Up with the use of Adidas Running app to monitor our progress. We also\, focus on relaxing at a slower pace while ending with a proper Cool Down. \n\nFREE Virtual Nutrition \nTune in each week to nutrition coach Lottie’s Nutriton Tlks. SUMMARY:UCLA Meteorite Collection
DESCRIPTION:FREE WEEKDAYS- UCLA Westwood Village\nThe UCLA Collection of Meteorites is the largest on the West Coast and contains over 2500 samples from about 1500 different meteorites. It is the fifth largest collection of meteorites in the United States and the second largest housed at a university. \n  \n \nOur collection includes the main masses of about 40 meteorites and the type specimens of more than 300 meteorites collected from hot deserts; 60 of these are iron meteorites. Eighty of these meteorite type specimens are from the state of California. These were collected by local citizens during the past few decades\, mainly from the playas (dry lakes) scattered around the Mojave Desert. \n  \n \nSome of our meteorites are large and well suited for exhibits (in fact\, some of them are exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History). However\, most of the samples are small and mainly of value for research. \n  \n  \n \nThe study of meteorites and the processes that formed them is called cosmochemistry. The cosmochemists at UCLA are among the most productive university researchers in the world. It is thus appropriate that we have one of the best university meteorite collections. \n  \nWe are in the second year of operating a Meteorite Gallery\, located in room 3697 of the Geology Building. Opened in January 2014\, the Gallery is open to the public weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm. CLOSED WEEKENDS. Admission is always free. The current exhibits will gradually expand as funds and additional samples are obtained. For highlights of the Meteorite Gallery please click here. \n  \n  \n \n  \nWe are eager to add meteorites to the UCLA collection. If you have a meteorite collection and are interested in considering a donation\, we would like to hear from you. You can contact us here. \n \nLOCATION\nThe Meteorite Gallery is located in room 3697 of the Geology Building on the UCLA campus. \n595 Charles E. The band was formed in 1981 in Los Angeles by vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich\, and has been based in San Francisco for most of its career. The band’s fast tempos\, instrumentals and aggressive musicianship made them one of the founding “big four” bands of thrash metal\, alongside Megadeth\, Anthrax and Slayer. Metallica’s current lineup comprises founding members and primary songwriters Hetfield and Ulrich\, longtime lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo. Guitarist Dave Mustaine (who went on to form Megadeth after being fired from the band) and bassists Ron McGovney\, Cliff Burton (who died in a bus accident in Sweden in 1986) and Jason Newsted are former members of the band. \n  \n \nMetallica earned a growing fan base in the underground music community and won critical acclaim with its first five albums. The band’s third album\, Master of Puppets (1986)\, was described as one of the heaviest and most influential thrash metal albums. Its eponymous fifth album\, Metallica (1991)\, the band’s first to root predominantly in heavy metal\, appealed to a more mainstream audience\, achieving substantial commercial success and selling over 16 million copies in the United States to date\, making it the best-selling album of the SoundScan era. \nMetallica\, like most of the music industry right now\, is off the road. To help fans pass the time\, they are introducing #MetallicaMondays. Each week the Free Metallica Monday Concert features a different live performance\, on their YouTube and Facebook page every Monday night at 5 PM pacific. \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nyoutube.com/Metallica Monday\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:LITTLE FREE LIBRARY
DESCRIPTION:FREE BOOK EXCHANGE BOXES Various Location around LA\nThrough Little Free Library book exchanges\, millions of books are exchanged each year\, profoundly increasing access to books for readers of all ages and backgrounds. \n  \n \n  \n  \nWhy Does Book Access Matter?\nAcademically\, children growing up in homes without books are on average three years behind children in homes with lots of books\, even when controlled for other key factors. One of the most successful ways to improve the reading achievement of children is to increase their access to books\, especially at home. But two out of three children living in poverty have no books to call their own. \n  \n \nBook-sharing boxes play an essential role by providing 24/7 access to books (and encouraging a love of reading!) in areas where books are scarce. \nAt the Little Free Library nonprofit\, we’re working to fill book deserts and place libraries where they can make a big impact through our Impact Library Program. We’ve donated more than 1\,000 libraries through this program to-date. \n  \n \n  \nThe Los Angeles area is already home to almost 75 such libraries; use the Little Free Library map to find exact addresses for boxes in Hollywood\, Culver City\, Westchester\, Marina Del Rey\, Burbank\, and beyond. More locations will certainly be springing up soon. \n  \n \n  \nOur staff is dedicated to increasing book access and forging community connections.  Watch the adjacent video to get a 30-second introduction to learn how you can start one\, too! \n  \n \n  \n  \nWe provide ongoing support to Little Free Library volunteer stewards\, offering free library-building instructions\, an online store with pre-built library models and kits\, access to free or discounted books\, and an e-newsletter full of ideas and advice. Our Action Book Club\, which combines reading with community service\, is open to all. \n  \n  \n \n  \nWe also maintain a world map of registered Little Free Library boxes to help people find and share books wherever they are\, and we have donated more than 1\,000 Little Free Library book exchanges (and counting!) to communities where books are scarce through our Impact Library Program. \n  \n  \n \n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nlittlefreelibrary.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:South Coast Botanical Gardens
DESCRIPTION:FREE EVERY THIRD TUESDAY– Palos Verdes Peninsula\nThe South Coast Botanical Garden is located on the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula. This lush 87-acre botanic garden has more than 2500 different species of plants that offer shelter to abundant wildlife and bird population. The diversities of trees include the fruit trees\, redwoods\, ginkgo’s\, and pittosporum designed with various themes. This botanical garden in Palos Verdes has plants even from Australia\, the Mediterranean\, and Southern Africa. One can find the beautiful ever-changing display of seasonal annuals from the entrance to the exit of this enormous garden. \nBut what makes this garden unique is that it is one of the world’s first botanical gardens to be developed over a sanitary landfill. The Garden is a masterpiece of creative land reclamation and environment improvement for all to share. It is a living testimonial to the fact that land reclamation not only offers a practical solution to refuse disposal problems\, but also beautifies and improves land values at the same time. \nSouth Coast Botanical Garden Map CLICK TO ENLARGE\nPopular features in the South Coast Botanical Garden\n \nBanyan Grove\nThe highlight of the Ficus collection is the grove of Moreton Bay Fig trees that cover the area with a massive tangle of roots. In the spring\, colorful Clivias brighten the understory of this shady grove. \nCalifornia Native Plants\nGrowing California native plants in the Garden offers many benefits: they use less water; they provide habitat and food for birds\, bees\, butterflies\, and other wildlife; they have colorful flower displays from spring to summer and berries and seeds into the fall and winter. There are several areas of the Garden where you can find California Native Plants in the landscape and gardens. The primary areas are the landscaping around the Greenhouse Complex\, the Mediterranean Garden\, and the El Rincon Garden at the corner of the Tram Road and the Service Yard road marked by the rustic lodge pole pergola. \n  \n \nChildren’s Garden and Children’s Discovery Garden\nOur most popular among young people\, this garden is developed around nursery rhymes with plants to match the stories. An enchanted dollhouse and bridge enhance the setting. Adjacent to the Children’s Garden is the Discovery Garden with a secret tunnel\, worm bin\, alphabet garden\, butterfly garden\, and whimsical characters. \n  \n \nThe New Rose Garden \nEvery view in the remarkable new Rose Garden (First Bloom coming April 2018) is breathtaking. Hand-crafted\, wrought iron fence-work depicts rose emblems\, rounded staircases gently welcome guests in\, rich warm wood tones envelop architectural structures\, a large fountain features an exquisite glass mosaic\, and of course\, colorful roses drip from every crevice. A grand guest entrance provides a magnificent overview of the formally planted space\, allowing guests to catch a glimpse of the beautiful asymmetrical design created by renowned landscape architect\, Deborah Richie-Bray\, who is known for her work at the Getty Villa. Undulating pathways guide gently through a labyrinth of planted beds and sculptural elements. Two cabana structures flank the central court and provide shade on a hot day. The celebration lawn houses several formal entrance paths that lead to a grand pergola with a raised plaza which will serve as a “stage” for events and ceremonies. \nThe more than 80 rose selections feature a variety of forms\, from climbers to ground covers. The choice of fragrant roses such as the David Austin English\, create a space of beauty in sight and scent. Rose cultivars have also been chosen by theme (the Flower Girl lines the potential bride’s path) and color (notice the ombré effect from peach to pink to red on the eastern side.) Some of the oldest varieties were hybridized in the 1800’s including Barrone Prevoset and Madame Plantier. These along with 20 rare cultivars were saved from the original garden. The Rose Garden has a unique planting design that will provide year-round appeal with plenty of non-rose companion plantings to ensure a lush experience. While typically rose gardens close for pruning when the main event plants have been clipped down to bare sticks\, the layered and diverse plant palette of this garden will provide delight year-round. Watch for bursts of purple jacaranda\, hot pink crape myrtle\, and powdery pink cherry blossoms up high\, and lower to the ground seek out blooming paper whites\, sage\, boxwood and succulents. \n  \n \nDesert Garden\nThe Desert Garden includes cacti\, euphorbia\, aloes\, and other succulents. The garden is an excellent exhibition of specimens from the United States\, Africa\, Mexico\, and South America. \n \nJapanese Garden/Koi Pond\nGarden maintained with a Bonsai Display by South Coast Bonsai Association. Enjoy listening to the calming sounds of water and taking in the subdued palette of evergreen shrubbery embracing the Koi Pond. The stone lanterns were crafted of Okazaki Stone over 200 years ago in a region said to be the capital of Japan’s stone craft. \nMediterranean Garden\nMediterranean refers to a unique climate consisting of mild\, cool\, rainy winters and hot\, dry summers seen in only five places in the world: coastal California\, the Mediterranean Basin\, southwest Australia\, the southwest Cape of South Africa\, and coastal Chile. California native plants are emphasized here. Mediterranean plants are environmentally friendly because they require very little supplemental water once established. Native plants have the added benefit of providing food and shelter to wildlife and pollinators. \nDisplay Greenhouse\nThe Display Greenhouse is open to the public from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm daily. Designed with the color palette in mind\, the colors range from warm to cool tones. Inside the greenhouse you will find a display of a variety of tropical plants such as: Adenium\, Anthurium\, Begonia\, Bromeliad\, Carnivorous plants\, Cordyline\, Croton\, Orchids\, Hoya\, and Passionflower vine. \nFuchsia Garden\nEstablished and maintained by the South Coast Branch of the National Fuchsia Society\, this garden contains many different species\, cultivars\, and new introductions. Overhead shade cloth filters strong sunlight to allow fuchsias and other shade-loving plants to thrive. \nGarden for the Senses\nThis garden encourages you to enjoy plants and flowers by smell\, touch\, sound\, and sight. Plants are arranged in raised beds so they can easily be touched or smelled. Individual plant labels identify which senses the plant engages. \nAnd more! \nMust Visit Place for All Nature Lovers\nThe South Coast Botanic Garden serves the community in various ways by providing a unique horticultural and wildlife habitat experience. It also represents the excellent model of land reclamation and sustainability – by promoting the usage of water-saving vegetation. The South Coast Botanic Garden is a treasure to be relished and a must-have experience for all nature lovers. \nYou can even buy plants suitable for the local climate. Bird watchers can enjoy the bird walks conducted twice every month. And\, there is a picnic area just outside the garden gates. \nThe Botanical Garden is operated by the Department of Parks and Recreation\, County of LA\, in conjunction with the South Coast Botanic Garden Foundation. \n \nGarden hours – 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. the last entry is allowed at 4:30 p.m. \nVisiting days – The garden is open to the public 364 days a year and closed on Christmas Day. \nFree entry tickets also available – The South Coast Botanic Garden is FREE on the third Tuesday of every month.
