El Dorado Archers is a Southern California archery club that competes at local and national tournaments but also maintains a local community program that teaches the basics of archery to the public. \n \nThe El Dorado Park Archery Fields are a great way for the community to learn about and to practice archery. The El Dorado Archers welcomes all family members 8 years of age and older! If you are interested in learning about archery\, the El Dorado Archers have classes for beginners every Saturday at the El Dorado Park Archery Field. Everyone is first required to take a Safety Class\, which costs $5 and runs from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. every weekend and sign up starts at 8:30 a.m. \n\nA $5 class fee will be charged regardless of using  personal equipment. Club Members are exempt from this fee. \n\n\n\nSATURDAY COMMUNITY ARCHERY CLASS SCHEDULE:\n$5 class fee per person\, cash only \nPlease see our CLASSES page for instructions \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQUESTIONS?\nQ: I have a large group of scouts\, students\, birthday party\, etc. Can you help us?\nA: We are not offering any private instruction at this time. This world-heritage class instrument\, used by many of the greatest astronomers of the Twentieth Century\, has only recently been made available for regular public viewing. It is the largest telescope in the world that you can rent! Imagine looking through the telescope used by astronomers Edwin Hubble and Milton Humason in the late 1920s to measure the expansion of the Universe. \n\n  \n \nThe 60 inch Telescope\nMount Wilson Observatory’s 60-inch telescope was completed in 1908 by Observatory founder George Ellery Hale with funding from Andrew Carnegie. For a more detailed history of this revolutionary instrument\, which became the model for all large observatory telescopes of the future\, see the article “Building the 60-inch Telescope.” Among the many important discoveries from the 60-inch telescope was Harlow Shapley’s revelation in 1918 that the accepted view of the time\, that our Sun was near the center of the Milky Way Galaxy\, was wrong. Shapley used the light gathering power of the 60-inch to show that our solar system is instead half way out toward the edge of our Galaxy. The telescope was a workhorse instrument for astronomy for over half a century and used by astronomical luminaries such as Edwin Hubble\, Walter Baade\, and Allan Sandage to unravel the secrets of stars and galaxies. Now retired from active scientific service\, the 60-inch and the 100-inch telescopes are the largest in the world made exclusively available to the public. With their large light-collecting mirrors and the exquisite skies over Mount Wilson\, these historic telescopes provide an unrivaled and unique astronomical experience. \n\n\n\n\n\nCHARA (Center for High Angular Resolution Astronomy)\nMount Wilson’s newest astronomical instruments are Georgia State University’s optical interferometric array of six telescopes. This facility\, located here because of the exceptional seeing conditions\, puts Mount Wilson back on the cutting edge of astrophysics. The full array was completed in 2004. Each telescope of the CHARA Array has a light-collecting mirror 1-meter in diameter. The telescopes are dispersed over the mountain to provide a two-dimensional layout that provides the resolving capability (but not the light collecting ability!) of a single telescope a fifth of a mile in diameter. Light from the individual telescopes is conveyed through vacuum tubes to a central Beam Synthesis Facility in which the six beams are combined together. When the paths of the individual beams are matched to an accuracy of less than one micron\, after the light traverses distances of hundreds of meters\, the Array then acts like a single coherent telescope for the purposes of achieving exceptionally high angular resolution. The Array is capable of resolving details as small as 200 micro-arcseconds\, equivalent to the angular size of a nickel seen from a distance of 10\,000 miles. In terms of the number and size of its individual telescopes\, its ability to operate at visible and near infrared wavelengths\, and its longest baselines of 330 meters\, the CHARA Array is arguably the most powerful instrument of its kind in the world. \nScience Objectives\nThe Array is applicable to problems in almost all areas of contemporary astronomy. It is particularly suited to stellar astrophysics where it will be used to measure the diameters\, distances\, masses\, and luminosities of stars\, as well as to image features such as spots and flares on their surfaces. Other projects range from detecting planetary systems\, imaging stars in process of formation\, and studies of bright transient phenomena like novae. \nFor more information on this amazing research facility and the science that is emerging from it\, please go to the CHARA array homepage. There you can find a video\, Sizing up the Stars\, that explains how interferometry works. \n\n\n\n \nAstronomical Museum\nAlso on the mountain\, next to the 100-inch telescope\, there is a new exhibit hall that displays Albert Michelson’s original interferometer\, used to get the first measurement of stars other than our Sun.  The exhibit hall reveals in detail how the light is combined in the new CHARA area. \nWeekend Public Guided Tours\n\n\n\n\n\nDocent-led walking tours of the observatory take place on Saturdays and Sundays through November 29. The two hour tours depart at 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. sharp from the Cosmic Cafe located above the large parking lot at the entrance to the Observatory. A special feature of these tours is entrance into both the 60-inch and 100-inch telescope domes\, as well as the observing room of the 150-foot Solar Tower Telescope.  On rare occasions\, a telescope may be closed to the tour due to a special event or maintenance. \n\n\nPurchasing Tickets \nTickets are $15 (adults) and $13 (ages 12 and under & 62 and older). Tour tickets are available for same-day purchase at the Cosmic Café\, and rarely sell out. Thus\, tours of the Observatory\, either guided or unguided\, are inappropriate for some elderly people and for those who are not in good health. \nVisitors should take these factors into consideration before touring the Observatory. \n\n\n\nParking\n\n\n\nA U.S. Forest Service Adventure Pass is required to park at the Observatory\, as it is located on U.S. Forest Service land. We are closed on Thanksgiving\, Christmas Eve\, Christmas Day\, and New Year’s Day. \n\n\nBOOK YOUR GROUP HERE!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n20612 Laguna Canyon Road Laguna Beach\, CA 92651 \nHISTORY\nPacific Marine Mammal Center began as Friends of the Sea Lion in 1971 with only three volunteers: Jim Stauffer\, John Cunningham\, and Dr. Rose Ekeberg. \nIn the spring of 1971\, a little girl approached Jim Stauffer\, a Newport Beach lifeguard\, on the beach.  The little girl told Jim that she had seen a seal on the beach.  Jim hopped in his lifeguard jeep and went to go investigate.  What he found was a young Pacific harbor seal. When Jim placed the animal in his jeep\, it leaped right out.  Jim decided the animal must be healthy and just needed to rest\, so he returned to work.  \nConcern for the animal nagged at him all day. When Jim returned to check on the small seal\, it was still on the beach.  Jim picked up the seal and took it to the Dover Shores Animal Hospital\, where Dr. Rod La Shell examined the animal and found that it had lungworms.  With advice from Dr. La Shell\, Jim nursed the harbor seal back to health and released the animal back into the ocean. \n \nMISSION STATEMENT\n“The Pacific Marine Mammal Center rescues\, rehabilitates\, and releases marine mammals and inspires ocean stewardship through research\, education\, and collaboration.” \nRescue\n \nUnlike whales and dolphins\, seals and sea lions don’t have to remain in the water in order to survive. The animals beach themselves to be warm and dry when feeling ill. They seek rest on land for a variety of reasons and are not always in need of intervention. Our staff is trained to recognize animals suffering from infections\, malnourishment\, pneumonia\, gill net strangulation\, etc. which can harm an animal’s chance for survival. \nRehabilitation\n \nWhen a “patient” is admitted\, our staff performs all necessary procedures under the direction and protocols set by the Animal Care Director and our Veterinary Medical Director. During the course of rehabilitation\, animals require a variety of treatments such as administration of antibiotics and subcutaneous fluids\, tube feeding\, force-feeding\, wound care\, etc. \nMost animals come in dehydrated and the most effective means to provide fluids and nourishment is through tube feeding. The process requires the blending of fish\, electrolytes\, warm water\, vitamins\, and medication into a fish formula. This formula is fed to the animals by inserting a flexible tube into the stomach using large syringes. As soon as the animals are hydrated and stable\, we wean them to eat whole fish. \nRelease\n \nOnce an animal has gained an optimal weight and is competing for food\, it’s ready for release. Prior to release\, each animal is tagged with an identification number. The color-coded tags indicate the animal has been rehabilitated and helps identify the specific animal and care center in case the animal needs care in the future. We strive to return every one of our patients back to the wild once their care with us is complete. \nEducation\nIt is not enough to rescue and rehabilitate these animals. We must communicate what needs to be done so that positive change can happen. PMMC strives to inspire ocean stewardship in all generations through sharing the stories of the animals we assist. Over 50\,000 people learn about conservation by talking with our education docents and interacting with exhibits in our visitor yard each year. We welcome over 7\,000 children\, most through our free programs for at-risk communities\, in our onsite experiential-based education programs that teach the importance of marine science and eco-friendly behavior. Our outreach team engages thousands of more people in offsite programs\, which share the importance of community involvement. Additionally\, through distance learning technology\, our education department brings conservation messaging to children and adults all over the nation and internationally. \nResearch\n \nAn important part of marine mammal recovery is ongoing research. Research is being done to find the pathological conditions that affect the marine mammals of Southern California. It sits in the middle of the Gabrielino National Recreation Trail\, historically named for the Native populations who were relocated to the San Gabriel Mission.\n\n\nThe area was a resting spot on the trek from the desert to the sea or vice versa through which trade was accomplished. Pre-contact local tribes came here to gather the bounty of the mountains (acorn\, game\, pine nuts\, etc.) and renew community ties.\n\n\n\n\n\n \n‘Haramokngna’ meaning “place where people gather\,” is an American Indian Cultural Center focused on historic and contemporary tribal culture. Haramokngna originally opened in 1998 with a Special Use Permit from Angeles National Forest. Converted from a former fire station\, the cultural center provides an exhibit space that tells the story of the five tribes of the San Gabriel Mountains: Tongva\, Tataviam\, Chumash\, Kitanemuk\, and Serrano. These five tribes are explored through their pre-European contact relationship with the land and each other via trade routes through the mountains. \n \n  \nToday there are more people of American Indian descent living in the greater Los Angeles area than in any other urban setting\, most having been uprooted and relocated from indigenous and reservation lands. Through Haramokngna and working closely with our elders\, we have created a significant land base in Los Angeles to serve the American Indian need to reconnect spiritually\, culturally\, environmentally\, and socially. Whereas\, community members will be the ones to take on the leadership roles in providing education to the public and groups on issues\, practices\, crafts\, and conducting workshops while providing for healthy future generations. The building and grounds are accessible for all visitors. Trailheads on Observatory grounds lead to Mount Hollywood\, the Greek Theatre area\, and Fern Dell. \n\n\nDaily Programs\n\nSamuel Oschin Planetarium\n\n\nOur most prominent daily programs are the shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium\, With its spectacular Zeiss star projector\, digital projection system\, state-of-the-art aluminum dome\, comfy seats\, sound system\, and theatrical lighting\, the 290-seat Samuel Oschin Planetarium theater is the finest planetarium in the world. SUMMARY:Hollywood Heritage Museum
DESCRIPTION:OPEN EVERY FRIDAY-SUNDAY- Hollywood\nThe Hollywood Heritage Museum\, is located in the Lasky-DeMille Barn\, which was built in 1901.  The story of the early Hollywood motion picture industry and the historic Hollywood community is told through archival photographs\, historic documents\, movie props and related memorabilia.  Visitors experience the actual structure where Cecil B. DeMille’s office exists\, furnished with selected personal DeMille belongings\, and where countless movies were filmed and studio staff worked and played. \nOn December 27\, 1956\, the Lasky-DeMille Barn was designated California State Historic Landmark No. 554\, recognizing the significant role the building played in the birth of the Hollywood motion picture industry.  Since 1985\, Hollywood Heritage\, Inc. has funded the preservation\, restoration and maintenance of the barn. It’s the oldest existing motion picture production building in Hollywood\, having been established as the Burns-Revier Studio in 1912\, and becoming the Jesse L. Lasky Feature Play Company in 1913.  The Lasky Company merged with Adolph Zuckor’s Famous Players in 1916\, becoming Famous Players-Lasky and merging with Paramount Distributing Company\, finally becoming Paramount Pictures Corporation. In 2014\, the Lasky-DeMille Barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [See the Time Line on the Museum link for a more detailed history of the barn]. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nVISITING THE MUSEUM\nThe Hollywood Heritage Museum is open Friday\, Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4 pm. As we share our ample parking lot with the Hollywood Bowl\, the museum is occasionally closed when the Bowl has an event.  If you are traveling a long way to visit us\, it might be a good idea to phone first to make sure we are open: (323) 874-2276. \n\n\nPARKING\nParking is free. There is a large parking area on the east side of Highland Avenue\, in front of the museum.  There is no entrance facing Highland Avenue.  You have to go around the corner either on Milner Road or Odin Street and immediately turn into the lot.  If there are parking lot attendants at a barricade\, tell them that you are visiting the museum. \nPUBLIC TRANSPORTATION\nThe Metro subway station closest to the Museum is the Hollywood-Highland stop.  We are located approximately a half-mile north on Highland Avenue\, about a 12-minute walk. \nBECOME A DOCENT:\nHollywood Heritage is a volunteer driven organization. Our docents assist museum guests and help with our Barn programs\, as well as many other activities associated with historic preservation issues and the day-to-day activities that make our organization so vital.  If you are interested in becoming involved\, click here. \n  \n \nHOLLYWOOD HERITAGE ARCHIVE:\nHollywood Heritage maintains an archive of historic photographs\, documents\, and other material related to the film industry and the community.  Our archive also includes considerable holdings on Hollywood real estate history and buildings of architectural significance.  We continue to seek material related to our dual mission of industry and community history.  Questions regarding our archive and donations procedures should be directed to our Collections Manager\, Richard Adkins. \nDONATION OF PHYSICAL ITEMS:\nHollywood Heritage welcomes donations both monetary and physical objects.  Donated items fall into two categories. \nFor resale in the Museum Store:  The museum store contains new and used items.  The older items are all donated to Hollywood Heritage and include books on the motion picture industry and its participants\, and books on the Los Angeles area.  It also includes used DVDs\, VHS tapes and other electronic storage of motion pictures\, as well as related items. These types of donated items can be dropped off at the museum along with the donor’s name and address so that\, if desired\, donor recognition and/or a tax letter can be provided by the Collections Manager. \nFor Hollywood Heritage Archive:  These are items that Hollywood Heritage’s curator agrees are compatible with our collection.  An appointment may be set up with our Collections Manager.  Much of the collection has been donated by individuals and families with relatives who contributed to the film industry and the Hollywood community\, often with the goal of preserving their relatives’ participation in Hollywood. Flight Path Learning Center of Southern California was founded in 1995 as a nonprofit\, community-based organization to honor aviation pioneers\, recognize the economic importance of aviation and aerospace to Southern California\, and encourage youth to pursue education and careers in aviation-related fields. The kickoff project was a series of sidewalk plaques in the LAX business district saluting aviation pioneers\, organizations and locations. This “Flight Path” is the aviation equivalent of the famed Hollywood Walk of Fame. \n \n\n  \nUnique among the fine aviation museums in Southern California is the Flight Path Museum’s location\, the only aviation museum and research center situated at a major airport and the only facility with a primary emphasis on contributions of civil aviation to the history and development of Southern California. \n\n\nThe Flight Path Museum gallery of exhibits\, filled with memories of aviation’s golden years\, is located adjacent to the LAX airfield\, where today’s aircraft and travelers arrive and depart the world’s busiest origin and destination airport. Several of the uniforms are on display\, while others can be viewed by request in the archive. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n \nDC-3 PLANE EXHIBIT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Douglas DC-3 is a propeller-driven airliner which had a lasting effect on the airline industry in the 1930s/1940s and World War II. It was developed as a larger\, improved 14-bed sleeper version of the Douglas DC-2. It is a low-wing metal monoplane with a tailwheel landing gear\, with a cruise speed of 207 mph (333 km/h)\, commercial capacity of 21 to 32 passengers or 6\,000 lbs (2\,700 kg) of cargo\, a range of 1\,500 mi (2\,400 km)\, and could operate from short runways.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Aircraft was displayed for many years at the California Science Center in Exposition Park in Los Angeles. It has been on loan to the Flight Path Museum LAX since September 2006. \n  \n\n\n\n\nSPACE EXPLORATION EXHIBIT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAstronaut Flight Suit\nSpace Debris\nModel Rockets\nTribute to 50 years since the Apollo Program\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFlight Path hosts the Space Exploration Gallery that spotlights the history and development of space flight. The gallery showcases a colorful and informative timeline of space exploration history together with a number of important space artifacts. Included is the flight suit of astronaut Gen. Kevin P. Chilton\, commander of the Endeavour and Atlantis space shuttles. \nThere is an extension to the exhibit in the entrance courtyard where a piece from a spacecraft that has re-entered the atmosphere can be observed. \n\n\n\n\n\nFLYING TIGERS EXHIBIT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFlying Tiger Line\, also known as Flying Tigers\, was the first scheduled cargo airline in the United States and a major military charter operator during the Cold War era for both cargo and personnel. The airline was bought by Federal Express in 1988.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe airline was named after the Flying Tigers fighter unit of World War II\, officially the 1st American Volunteer Group. Ten former AVG pilots formed the Flying Tiger Line (established as National Skyway Freight) after returning to the United States in 1945\, using a small fleet of Budd Company C-93 Conestoga freighters purchased as war surplus from the United States Navy. The pilots and two ground crew provided half of the initial investment\, with the balance coming from California oil tycoon Samuel B. Mosher. For the next four years\, Flying Tiger Line carried air freight on contract throughout the U.S. and\, as the airline expanded\, carrying supplies to U.S. troops under Gen. Douglas MacArthur during the occupation of Japan. \n  \n\n\n\n\nFIRE FIGHTING VEHICLE EXHIBIT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn permanent display on the airside of the museum is a retied ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting)  truck used at LAX. The Oshkosh M3000 model was manufactured by Oshkosh Corporation in Appleton\, Wisconsin and entered service at LAX in 1995\, it stayed in operation for about a decade and a half. Maximum operating load is 148\,000lbs\, 3\,000 gallons of water and 500 gallons of foam. Made to reach potential accidents sites at top speed\, it reached speeds of 50mph in a sprint.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nToday\, ARFF operations at LAX are conducted out of one station near the center of the airport\, Station 80 is a part of the Los Angeles Fire Department. They currently operate six Panther trucks manufactured by Rosenbauer America. DESCRIPTION:OPEN WEDNESDAY – SUNDAY- San Pedro\nCabrillo Marine Aquarium welcomes you to come discover the underwater world of Southern California. \n \nSince 1935\, we have been exhibiting Southern California’s rich diversity and adaptations of our local sea life through a combination of aquaria\, interpretive displays and museum collections. Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s Susanne Lawrenz-Miller Exhibit Hall\, Exploration Center\, Aquatic Nursery and Virginia Reid Moore Marine Research Library comprise a unique science education facility where visitors of all ages can pursue informal marine biology education\, ecological awareness\, and scientific research training. These complex topics are made fun and accessible by the creative and informative exhibits.\n\nSusanne Lawrenz-Miller Exhibit Hall\nThe Susanne Lawrenz-Miller Exhibit Hall showcases three major environments: Rocky Shores\, Sand and Mud\, and Open Ocean Ecosystems. Explore interpretative and live exhibits to learn about the many animals and plants that live in each habitat. From worms to whales – all are adapted to protect themselves\, find food and reproduce. \n\n\n\n\nKelp Forests\nThe richest habitat along our Californian rocky shores is the kelp forest. Giant kelp is the largest and fastest growing of all seaweeds and forms the framework for the kelp forest community. It attracts and influences many other species of animals and plants within the forest. Later\, when it tears loose as drift kelp\, it provides large quantities of food for animals living on the seashore and ocean bottom. \nKelp bass\, giant kelpfish\, garibaldi\, norris’ top snail\, and kelp crabs are all common inhabitants of the kelp forest. Kelp anchors to the rocky bottom with a structure called the holdfast. The holdfast has many crevices and is home to many other animals such as spiny brittlestars and amphipods. The leaf-like kelp blades (also called fronds) provide a large surface area for photosynthesis. On the blades themselves\, a bryozoan can grow rapidly and completely cover a kelp blade within 3-4 weeks. \nKelp forests are found along the west coasts of North and South America\, the southern tip of Africa and Australia\, and islands near Antarctica. Giant kelp grows best in well mixed\, cool\, clear ocean water. In southern California\, giant kelp beds were common until the 1950s. Changes in water conditions and the near extinction of the southern sea otter\, which resulted in a population explosion of the purple sea urchin\, severely reduced the size and number of local kelp beds for several years. Due to restoration efforts\, kelp forests have recovered along Palos Verdes in the last several years. \n \nMudflats\nThe mudflat habitat is an enclosed coastal area with fresh and saltwater saturated sediments. Mudflats appear barren but conceal a rich variety of life. Many animals depend on this fragile and threatened habitat. Commercially important fish\, such as the California halibut\, use this habitat as a nursery ground which provides protection and a rich source of food. \nThe area surrounding the upper part of the mud is called the saltmarsh and teems with plants. Marsh plants provide shelter and living space for other organisms. The breakdown and decay of these plants produce organic debris which is a rich food source for a variety of invertebrates\, like fiddler crabs and amphipods. These animals are an attractive food source for the mudflat’s large bird population\, including the willet and snowy egret. Over 100 species of birds reside in or visit southern California mudflats. \nThe highest zone is dominated by salt grass which can tolerate only the occasional tidal flooding that occurs at this level. The middle zone is characterized by pickleweed which is more tolerant of tidal flooding. The lowest zone teems with eel grass which is one of the few marsh plants that can grow completely underwater. \nVisit the mudflat room at the aquarium to learn more about marsh plants and the many animals that depend on this important habitat. \n\n\n\nRocky Shores\nThe rocky shore is a difficult place to live\, yet some of the largest and most diverse populations of marine plants and animals can be found here. Explore how these animals have many different adaptations to protect themselves and find food. \nSeaweeds and microscopic plants produce the basic food of the ocean using the sun’s energy. Seaweeds then provide food for such grazers as snails\, sea hares and urchins. In the rocky shore\, sponges\, sea squirts\, mussels\, fanworms and barnacles filter tiny food particles from the water. Sea anemones and their relatives are hungry predators. These animals\, in turn\, are eaten by the flamboyant nudibranch slugs and other snails. \nThe richest habitat along our Californian rocky shores is the kelp forest. Kelp grows up to two feet a day and provides food and shelter for many other plants and animals. \nHunters of the seashore capture their prey in different ways. Sea stars use hundreds of tube feet. Worms and snails may drill or harpoon their prey\, while some crabs use powerful crushing claws. \nWhile visiting the touch tank you can experience a variety of rocky shore marine life such as a sea star or a prickly urchin. The touch tank expert will teach you the names and special traits of the marine life as well as answer any of your questions. \n \nOpen Ocean\nThe vast open ocean and deep sea are home to delicate jellyfish\, light-producing animals\, and other organisms ranging from the beautiful to the bizarre.\n\nBe sure to stop by the Sea Jelly Lab and see what’s growing in this open husbandry lab. Students\, volunteers and staff are often seen working on a variety of projects here. Come run with us. \n48 for Change\nWith the combination of a global pandemic and civil unrest around racial injustice\, June of 2020 set the stage for important societal and human issues to finally come to light in a more permanent way. This was the same time that two friends\, Justin and Tyler\, decided they wanted to take action to make a difference in the injustices and inequality we see in our communities. \n\n\n\nThe week of George Floyd’s passing\, Justin called Tyler voicing his frustration from Floyd’s murder and subsequent reactions\, and they joined forces to do a running challenge that very weekend that entailed running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. A GoFundMe was set up to collect funds from friends and family throughout the running challenge to donate to help support racial justice. \nWhat started as a way to take the mind off of the pressure cooker of injustice resulted in a massively successful and attention-grabbing fundraiser\, and eventually turned into a 501(c)3 nonprofit\, still strong and growing today: 48 For Change. \nAside from fundraising and donating\, Justin found that the community that gathered to run that weekend was something special\, and needed its own spotlight. A place where anyone can come and simply run with a group of good people. Guests who come to see Endeavour will begin their experience in Endeavour Together: Parts & People\, a companion exhibit featuring artifacts from Endeavour and the external tank. \nFollowing their visit to Endeavour Together\, guests will be directed to the Samuel Oschin Pavilion to see Endeavour. \n\n\n\n\nSamuel Oschin Pavilion\nIn the Samuel Oschin Pavilion\, guests will be able to see Endeavour up close and discover some of the science behind this amazing vehicle.The pavilion will feature images and video to introduce guests to Endeavour’s past missions and the crews who flew them. \n\n\n  \n  \n\nEndeavour Together: Parts & People\nEndeavour Together: Parts & People celebrates Endeavour\, the space shuttle program\, and the people who helped make the program possible. The exhibit also highlights the shuttle program’s strong connection to California\, where all the orbiters were built. Endeavour Together includes images of Endeavour under construction locally in Palmdale and Downey\, as well as artifacts that flew into space aboard Endeavour. Dramatic video programs convey the emotion and power of Endeavour. \n  \n \nRocketdyne Operations Support Center\nThe Rocketdyne Operations Support Center (ROSC) monitored every space shuttle launch\, from the first to the last\, from right here in Southern California. \n\n\nSpace Potty\nThe space potty\, or Waste Collection System\, provided a high-tech solution to one of space travel’s most pressing concerns. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGalley\nOur galley served as a kitchen in space for astronauts aboard Endeavour. \n\n\nTires\nGuests can touch these tires from Endeavour flight STS-134\, which show the wear from landing on the runway. \n\n\nNose Cone\nThe nose cone protected sensors at the top of the space shuttle’s external tank. \n\n\nOrthogrid\nThe orthogrid was carved from a single metal plate to be part of the wall of a super-lightweight space shuttle external tank (ET). \n\n\n  \n  \n \n\n\nMission 26: ET Comes Home\nExperience ET-94’s move to the California Science Center through engaging photographs captured by Gil Garcetti. Just steps away from the world-famous Venice Boardwalk\, there are ecosystems teeming with wildlife waiting to be explored. Since 1995\, countless people have enjoyed our outdoor classrooms through hands-on learning. \nOUR MISSION is to ignite a passion for the abundance\, diversity\, and significance of the web of life in our ocean and its shores. The Venice Oceanarium emphasizes the powerful and enduring emotional and aesthetic influences of the oceans on human culture. \nOUR VISION is to build a permanent exhibit on the Venice Pier that educates and inspires visitors about the unique and wondrous life forms in our local ocean. \n\nAbout Venice Oceanarium\nBack in 1995 our founder\, Tim Rudnick\, organized a weekend-long marathon reading of Moby-Dick at the Venice Beach breakwater. Reliving life aboard a whaling ship and Melville’s soul-searching journey while the group huddled for warmth on the sand was a transformative experience. Tim realized the importance of learning outside of the traditional classroom and founded the Venice Oceanarium\, a Museum Without Walls. \n \nThis concept of blending the arts and sciences is the core of our programming. We believe that our integrative curriculum inspires kids of all ages to be stewards of our precious oceans. \nOver the years we’ve expanded our outreach to include our highly anticipated annual grunion party\, weekly Marine Biology pop-up labs at the end of the Venice Pier\, classes at local schools and youth centers\, tidepool talks\, wetland walks\, and other excursions. \nVenice Beach: An Urban Coastal Park\n \nVenice Beach is a wonderful juxtaposition of urban life and natural wonder. Wide sandy beaches\, crashing waves\, shells\, seaweed\, birds\, and other wildlife coexist with surfers\, sunbathers\, and sandcastles. \nThe tidepools at the Venice Beach Breakwater are teeming with wildlife (to be enjoyed with your eyes only) as the iconic and colorful Venice graffiti walls loom in the background. There’s a secret reef\, and beautiful wetlands\, and on a clear day\, you can see Malibu and Catalina Island. \nMillions of locals and visitors enjoy our beaches. Few stop to really appreciate the rare treasures it has to offer.
