Thanks to this crazy new bar in Winnetka\, CA and our buddy the bartender\, we were introduced to new styles of beer that were much different than the commercial brands we were used to. After many conversations on the process of making beer and the brewing techniques of smaller breweries\, we decided to take a chance at brewing our own malted\, adult beverages!We signed up for a Maltose Falcons class\, bought a brewing kit and a turkey fryer and made a batch of beer on June 23\, 2012. After this first batch\, we were hooked! We invested more time in learning about the process\, fabricated custom brewing equipment and experimented with new recipes while tweaking them to make them our own.After serving samples of our homemade brews and getting positive feedback\, we began talking of doing it legit and opening up a brewery!  Given our Valley roots and the fact our beer was brewed out of a garage in Sylmar\, CA\, we decided 818 Brewing was the perfect name and we filed our paperwork in October 2014 for our new venture. \nWhat we’ve enjoyed the most along our journey is the sense of community within the craft brew scene. Chace Park \nwas first opened in 1972 at 13650 Mindanao Way in Marina del Rey\, California and was named in honor of the Father of the Marina and long-time Los Angeles County Supervisor\, Burton W. Chace.  The Park hours are from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm 7 days a week while the Office hours are from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm 7 days a week. Burton W. Chace Park offers multi-purpose rooms\, picnic tables\, barbecues\, pergolas\, picnic shelters\, outdoor programs\, great harbor viewing areas\, guest docks\, and is host to numerous year-round events. Admission is free. The Marina del Rey water bus offers rides around the Marina for $1.00. There are always a number of Events going on in the Park throughout the year\, including the Discover Marina del Rey Day where you can meet the Chace Family the first Sunday of each October. \n \nThe Park has a Community Room for which reservations may be made for your community event and great outdoor facilities. Chace Park: 10 acres of lush lawn and trees extend into the Marina’s main channel offering magnificent boat and ocean vistas. Built-in barbecue grills and tables invite picnicing. The free outdoor summer concerts run from July through September each year on Thursday and Saturday nights. \nIf you are into cycling\, the Park is located on the South Bay Bicycle Trail which spans from Will Rogers State Beach to the north in Pacific Palisades to Torrance County Beach in the South at the base of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and the Park is located about halfway between the two points making it an ideal stop along the way. \nBurton W. Chace Park has been the site of many weddings\, scenes on television shows including the OC\, and is home to a wealth of community events throughout the year. The Park office displays historical photographs of Santa Monica\, Playa del Rey\, and the canals of Venice in 1905\, when they were new. DESCRIPTION:OPEN DAILY- Manhattan Beach Pier\nThe Roundhouse Aquarium is located at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier. The Roundhouse has undergone a recent revitalization through a $4 million capital project spearheaded by the Harrison Greenberg Foundation. The new Roundhouse Aquarium educates and inspires more than 300\,000 visitors every year. It is managed and operated by the nonprofit oceanic and environmental organization Oceanographic Teaching Stations\, Inc. (OTS)\, whose mission is to connect and engage visitors and students to the oceans through hands-on interactive experiences with marine life and habitats of southern California\, and to inspire them to become good stewards of our environment. \nOTS’ programs at the Roundhouse Aquarium promote the study of the oceans\, tidelands and beaches of Southern California through a wide slate of science-based and standards-aligned education programs with its immersive and engaging exhibits of a diverse array of marine life.  More than 100 marine animals from Southern California’s waters live at the aquarium\, many are native to its local waters in the Santa Monica Bay. Notable wildlife include moon jellies\, sharks\, octopus\, sheepshead\, moray eels\, lobsters\, and more – as well as a touch tank with sea stars\, sea cucumbers\, sea urchins and sea snails. These exhibits are showcased within 4 Aquarium Galleries. \n\n\nMarine Habitat Gallery\n\nRocky Reef Tank \nThe Rocky Reef shows us what reefs in the cold California waters look like. They are similar to coral reefs but are made up of rocks instead of corals. They are just as important of a habitat as coral reefs and often serve as a nursery for many types of juvenile fish. \nKelp Forest Tank \nThe Kelp Forest tank represents a distinct southern California marine habitat. This tank shows us what it looks like to swim at the edge of the kelp forest\, where rocks become scarcer and sand more plentiful. Many of the animals in the tank can live their life deep within the kelp forest or at the very edge. Those animals at the edges can even camouflage in the sand. \n\n\n\n\nEducation Gallery\n\nDeep Kelp Forest Tank\nThese tanks represent a very diverse and abundant habitat\, the kelp forest! The giant kelp that grows 2 feet a day\, provides food and shelter for many different animals. Not only is this habitat important for animals\, but it is also important to humans as well! Seaweeds\, like kelp\, produce about 70% of our oxygen through photosynthesis. So\, take a deep breath and thank kelp! \nTide Pool Tank\nAll the animals that you can find in our touch tank live in a habitat called a tide pool. When the tide is low and the water has receded\, pools of water are left in between rocks which form the tide pools. In Southern California\, we have 2 high tides and 2 low tides every day\, which means the animals’ habitat is always changing. They must have special adaptations that allow them to live in such a dynamic habitat. \nPier Piling Tank\nHave you ever wondered what is under the pier? This tank will give you a good idea! Pier pilings\, while man made\, do create a habitat for lots of animals ranging from mussels\, to crabs\, to fish and rays. The fish can either hide amongst the mussels or lay on the sand under the pier among the rays. \n\n\n\n \n\n\nMarine Science Gallery\n\nJewel Tank\nSee our animals in the spotlight with cool adaptive traits like our spotted rose anemone that has biofluorescence and our baby swell shark eggs that can camouflage as seaweed. The baby swell sharks are really cute when they hatch out too! \nPipefish Tank\nThe Pipefish tank is an example of a mudflat with eelgrass beds that act as a nursery for young fish and young sting rays. See if you can spot a pipefish in the eelgrass. \nArtificial Reef Tank\nThe Artificial Reef tank is an examples of man-made structures left behind that now act as reefs teaming with life from sea anemones on rock scallops to sea stars to juvenile rockfish. Can you see the bright orange Garibaldi with blue spots? \nOctopus Tank\nThe octopus tank is an example of a deep water habitat brought to life for our guests to see. It features anemones and rock scallops on the reef which also add structure and microhabitats to the reef. The decorator crab uses the colonial strawberry anemones to help decorate its body to camouflage with the reef. There are small but colorful rockfish like the half-banded rockfish that stay close to the rocks and use them as shelter. \nKid’s Kelp Corner\nHave you ever wondered oh why\, oh why did my goldfish die? Come find the answer in the Kid’s Kelp Corner. You can also relax and read the many ocean related books in our library while watching our inquisitive freshwater fish. \nDiscovery Center\nCome check out what it means to be a scientist! Observe plankton\, learn about the food chain\, and discover some of the aquarium’s smallest residents. \nSeahorse Tank\nSeahorses are some of the most fragile sea creatures in the ocean\, and they can camouflage to look like seaweed\, eelgrass\, or even sea fans. They use their tails to hold onto eelgrass and stay upright\, but they won’t swim except in short bursts. The California African American Museum’s mission is to research\, collect\, preserve\, and interpret for public enrichment the history\, art\, and culture of African Americans with an emphasis on California and the western United States. \n \n  \n  \nCAAM’s permanent collection consists of over 4\,000 objects ranging from the 1800s to the present. It encompasses paintings\, photographs\, film\, sculpture\, historical documents\, and artifacts\, and it spans nineteenth-century landscape paintings to modern artworks to contemporary mixed-media reflections on cultural and political events. \n \n  \nThe Museum’s first acquisitions included a bronze bust of civil rights activist Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune by artist Richmond Barthé and a sculpture by artist Maren Hassinger\, then at the start of her career. These laid the perfect groundwork for CAAM’s mandate to assemble a comprehensive\, thoughtful\, and wide-reaching collection. \n \n  \nCAAM’s deepest holdings include art made or connected to African Americans in California and the western United States. However\, the Museum also has significant works of contemporary art from the African diaspora (including Haiti\, Brazil\, and Jamaica)\, as well as traditional African art from Western\, Central\, and Sub-Saharan Africa. The Silverlake Lounge is a place of diversity and a safe space for Creatives and the Queer BIPOC community. DESCRIPTION:VARIOUS NIGHTS THIS MONTH- Burbank\nThe Burbank Sidewalk Astronomers are hosting another Star Party\, tonight in Burbank. The Burbank Sidewalk Astronomers host these nights several times a month. The event is open to the public\, and people of all ages are welcome to come out to enjoy the spectacle. \nThe Sidewalk Astronomers usually have several telescopes set up\, each pointed at a different part of the sky. They are happy to answer questions and guide visitors through the process of using the telescopes. Many people have never looked through a telescope before\, and they were amazed at the detail they can see in the stars and planets. \nOne of the highlights of the evening is the chance to see a real planet like Mars Saturn\, or Jupiter and its four largest moons. Each night the show is a bit different. \nOne of the most popular attractions to see through the scopes is the Orion Nebula. The nebula is a vast cloud of gas and dust that is home to many young stars. Many nights visitors can see the bright colors of the nebula and the stars that were forming inside it. \nThroughout the evening\, the Sidewalk Astronomers will give talks about astronomy and space exploration. They discuss the latest discoveries in astronomy and answer questions from the audience. Come out and see for yourself. \n2023-2024 Schedule\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMon.
