The Burbank Sidewalk Astronomers host these nights several times a month. The event is open to the public\, and people of all ages are welcome to come out to enjoy the spectacle. \nThe Sidewalk Astronomers usually have several telescopes set up\, each pointed at a different part of the sky. They are happy to answer questions and guide visitors through the process of using the telescopes. Many people have never looked through a telescope before\, and they were amazed at the detail they can see in the stars and planets. \nOne of the highlights of the evening is the chance to see a real planet like Mars Saturn\, or Jupiter and its four largest moons. Each night the show is a bit different. \nOne of the most popular attractions to see through the scopes is the Orion Nebula. The nebula is a vast cloud of gas and dust that is home to many young stars. Many nights visitors can see the bright colors of the nebula and the stars that were forming inside it. \nThroughout the evening\, the Sidewalk Astronomers will give talks about astronomy and space exploration. This collection offers a superb representation of the arts of many African nations\, including objects from Senegal\, Nigeria\, Ghana\, Cameroon\, Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire)\, Kenya\, Zambia\, and South Africa. The Yoruba collection alone is one of the three finest in the world. It contains a spectacular array of beaded objects\, including a majestic throne\, elaborate chiefly gowns\, and sophisticated divination regalia. \n \nA collection of post-apartheid election materials and contemporary South African art is being developed\, as are a number of collections of popular urban arts from countries including Tanzania and Muslim Senegal. Come run with us. \n48 for Change\nWith the combination of a global pandemic and civil unrest around racial injustice\, June of 2020 set the stage for important societal and human issues to finally come to light in a more permanent way. This was the same time that two friends\, Justin and Tyler\, decided they wanted to take action to make a difference in the injustices and inequality we see in our communities. \n  \n\n\n\nThe week of George Floyd’s passing\, Justin called Tyler voicing his frustration from Floyd’s murder and subsequent reactions\, and they joined forces to do a running challenge that very weekend that entailed running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. A GoFundMe was set up to collect funds from friends and family throughout the running challenge to donate to help support racial justice. \nWhat started as a way to take the mind off of the pressure cooker of injustice resulted in a massively successful and attention-grabbing fundraiser\, and eventually turned into a 501(c)3 nonprofit\, still strong and growing today: 48 For Change. \nAside from fundraising and donating\, Justin found that the community that gathered to run that weekend was something special\, and needed its own spotlight. A place where anyone can come and simply run with a group of good people. Here\, they mated with members of the Yaocomico tribe of Maryland. Centuries later\, it is this union of fugitive and shaman blood that runs through Daniel’s veins\, injecting a much needed outlaw spirit into western yoga. \n \nHaving earned his teaching certification through his studies and apprenticeship with ashtanga vinyasa masters in Mysore\, India\, Daniel has been bringing donation-based vinyasa yoga to the people since 2005. The host of the Daniel Overberger – What Now? podcast\, author of Leaving Stress Behind and founder of alt-kirtan group Dharma Gypsys\, Daniel has been featured on KTLA News\, in Tarzan Magazine (Japan) and in LA Yoga Magazine\, to which he has been a regular contributor. \n \nDaniel has two teaching certificates from his studies in Mysore\, India and teaches Vinyasa yoga with roots in Ashtanga. Her work speaks to society\, science literacy\, and civic engagement\, creating projects with the California Science Center\, health clinics and mental health departments\, and the National Park Service. Her collaborations with air pollution control agencies involve images from the smog\, and large-scale projects with natural history museums in California\, Colorado\, and Florida incorporate specimens ranging from lichen to nudibranchs. \nIn 1987\, she innovated a method to create images from the smog in the air\, and Smog Collectors brought her work to national and international attention. National Endowment for the Arts funded two recent projects: as artist-in-residence at the Institute of Forest Genetics she focused on Resilience; and\, Valises for Camp Ground: Arts\, Corrections\, and Fire Management in the Santa Monica Mountains were made in collaboration with Camp 13\, a group of female prison inmates stationed in the Santa Monica Mountains who fight wildfires. She has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation\, J. Unique to automobile museums\, each car on display is attentively serviced and maintained to remain as drivable as when the vehicle originally rolled off the showroom floor. On view are various Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance winners and cars once owned by movie stars\, royalty and other notable personalities. \n  \n\nBuilding ONE: The Nethercutt Museum FREE!\nThe entire collection is housed in two beautifully appointed exhibit facilities located just north of Los Angeles. Housed in the Museum is the Nethercutt Automotive Research Library and Archives \, one of the world’s top automotive research facilities. Just steps outside the Museum are a resplendently restored steam locomotive and railcar. \nOpened in 1971\, The Nethercutt Collection is a not-for-profit educational institution and a resource for automobile enthusiasts\, historians\, students and scholars. It is open to the public at no charge. The Nethercutt Museum showcases more than 130 of the world’s greatest antique\, vintage\, classic and special interest automobiles including many top winners of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. \n\n\n  \n \nTHE ANTIQUE ERA (1890s – 1915)\nInnovation and experimentation were at the heart of this era and provided the catalyst for the automobiles’ development. By the late-19th century\, “horseless carriages” were being built by small groups of artisans\, craftsmen and engineers on a small scale\, with many taking characteristics from the wagons they were replacing. \n\n\nTHE VINTAGE ERA (1916 – 1924)\nA class of cars that came to be known today as “vintage\,” fits in between the expensive coach built brands that became classics and the inexpensive models represented by Ford\, Chevrolet and Dodge. These cars sold for between $500 and $2\,000. They had basic engineering features but had better cosmetic appointments such as visors\, cigar lighters and wool broadcloth interiors. \n  \n \nTHE CLASSIC ERA (1925 – 1948)\nThis era elevated the common automobile to a status symbol\, as evidenced by their cost. When common vehicles sold for $400 to about $1\,200\, the classic car had a price tag of $2\,000 to $20\,000. \n  \n\nTHE POST-WAR ERA (1945 – 1970s)\nThroughout the 1950s\, engine power and vehicle speeds rose\, designs became better integrated and more stylized\, and cars grew more popular across the world. The auto market slightly shifted in the 1960s\, causing Detroit to worry about foreign competition. European makers adopted even greater technology and Japan appeared as a serious car-producing nation. \n  \n \nTHE MUSEUM LOCOMOTIVE & PRIVATE CAR\n1937 Canadian Pacific Royal Hudson Locomotive #2839: \n#2839 was built by Montreal Locomotive Works and is resplendent in its Royal maroon\, gold leaf\, gloss black and brushed stainless steel livery\, is a testament to the grand era of steam locomotive engineering. The Hudson type is a 4-6-4 wheel arrangement and was a high-speed passenger locomotive with a top speed of 90 mph. \n1912 Pullman Private Car #100 California: \nCustom built by Pullman in Chicago\, Illinois for Clara Baldwin Stocker the eldest Daughter of local Pioneer “Lucky” Baldwin. This railcar has been beautifully restored back to 1912 \nBuilding TWO: The Nethercutt Collection: Available by Tour Only  advanced reservations are required- $10\n  \n \nLower Salon\n\nThe Lower Salon is where guests assemble to start the guided tour. The salon is a microcosm of the entire collection. There are about 25 automobiles dating from the early 1900’s up till the late 1940’s. Also in display are nickelodeons\, music boxes\, David Winter Cottages\, Dolls\, Coins\, and crystal figurines. \n  \n\n \nGrand Salon\n\nMarble columns\, crystal chandeliers\, painted ceilings all make up this beautiful Grand Salon Showroom of the 1910’s\, 20 and 30s. On display are approx. 30 of the finest automoblies of that era. Duesenbergs\, Cadillacs\, Isotta-Fraschini\, Delahaye\, Minvera\, Renault\, Maybach\, many other European and American built automoblies. \n  \n\n \nAutomobile Collectibles and Antiques\n\nOn the third floor is a large assortment of Radiator Hood Ornaments “Mascots”\, including Lalique Crystal Mascots and 18th & 19th Century French Furniture \n  \n \nInstruments\n\nThis area displays a world-class collection of automated mechanical instruments including musical repeat striking watches\, Swiss bird boxes\, cylinder and disc music boxes\, and grand pianos.
