SUMMARY:THE DEEP END
DESCRIPTION:EVERY FRIDAY– DTLA\nParty with us to the Deep End this weekend at Upstairs\, Ace Hotel brought to you by BRIGGS! Party with the highest energy and sing your heart out to the music! \n \nJoin Briggs Upstairs for a smooth mix of r&b\, hip hop and rap. \nBriggs is well known as a DJ\, A&R\, Songwriter\, and Creative Director. Briggs was born and raised in Los Angeles\, California. He is known for playing 90s 2000s hip hop and R&B sprinkled in with the now top 40s hits. His party’s take you back along memory lane all while keeping you moving and singing the whole night. \nWith Special Guest appearances every week bringing you the best 90s\, 2000s\, Hip-Hop\, R&B\, and Afrobeats! Party like never before!! \nSEE YOU THERE! \n21+ / Free for everyone. \n\n \n929 South Broadway Los Angeles\, CA 90015 United States \n \nIn historic Downtown Los Angeles\, where the grit meets the glamour.\nWelcome to Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles\, where the grit meets the glamour! Located on Broadway and 9th Street at the southernmost point of the Broadway Histroic Theater District\, offers seven fresh and minimalist rooms and suites. Not only do they serve palette-bursting delicacies in their restaurant\, but you can also head up to its rooftop bar where you can dip in their pool while sipping cool drinks by day and attend jaw-dropping parties at night! \n \nThe main attraction is the restored United Artists THeater which occupies three floors of the 13-story building and has a 1\,600-seat auditorium. The building stands as a shining monument to the American artistic spirit and theatrical history. The theater exemplifies the love of Spanish castles and cathedral stonework. \n \nBuilt in 1927 as the flagship movie palace for United Artists — the maverick film studio founded by Mary Pickford\, Douglas Fairbanks\, D.W Griffith\, and Charlie Chaplin — The Theatre at Ace Hotel is our loving reanimation of one of the city’s most remarkable gems. It’s a delicately restored\, 1\,600-seat cathedral to the arts\, with a three-story\, 2\,300 square foot grand lobby\, an ornate open balcony\, and a vaulted ceiling dotted with thousands of mirrors that glimmer like tiny stars. \n \nSince returning The Theatre to its storied splendor\, we’ve played host to hundreds of meaningful\, nearly sacred\, wholly rock and roll experiences: large-scale concerts\, major movie premieres\, sold-out dance performances — if it fits inside the proscenium\, we’ve probably presented it. Retrofitted with a state-of-the-art digital projection system and cinema sound\, an independent\, ultramodern live sound system\, plus an elaborate contemporary stage lighting system\, The Theatre at Ace Hotel is a radically inclusive stage fit for our heart’s royalty — artists\, musicians\, visionaries and cultural igniters. \n\nVersatile spaces made for memories of all shapes and sizes\n \n\nWhether you’re hosting a concert\, film screening\, holiday soiree\, workshop\, record launch\, dinner\, reception\, or something all your own\, we’ve got the canvas\, menus\, and staff to make it amazing. Get all the details and anything you need when you reach out to the team. \nWe believe in celebrations of all sizes\, there’s no reason too big or too small to mark the moment. Flexible enough to suit whatever you’ve got in mind\, Ace Hotel DTLA’s private spaces hold the magnetism of Old Hollywood within a glorious Spanish Gothic structure. \n \nGo for cinematic sights and the pool Upstairs\, host a cozy café-like affair on the Mezzanine or truly throw something for the ages in our magical movie palace next door. Each of our spaces is a generous canvas\, adaptable for everything from culinary workshops\, record launches\, dinners\, receptions\, or whatever you need us to be. \n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.eventbrite.com/e/the-deep-end-tickets\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:The Broad Museum
DESCRIPTION:FREE TUE – SUN- Bunker Hill\, DTLA\n\n\n\n\nThe Broad museum presents an in-depth installation of Roy Lichtenstein\, opening May 26\, 2021\, features 22 artworks\, with nearly half on view for the first time\, including Purist Still Life (1975)\, Female Figure (1979)\, Two Paintings: Radiator and Folded Sheets (1984)\, and Nude with Pyramid (1994). \nAn outcome of sustained and ongoing engagement with artists and artwork\, the Broad collection is distinctive in its exceptional dedication to the full arc of artists’ careers. The Broad has highlighted this depth through expansive presentations in the third floor galleries\, featuring Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Roy Lichtenstein\, Kara Walker\, Andy Warhol\, and Christopher Wool\, along with works by many others. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom the curators\n\n\n\nRead extended content on Lichtenstein’s works in our mobile museum guide: mobile.thebroad.org/artistguides \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHighlighted Artwork\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPurist Still Life\n\nRoy Lichtenstein\n\n\n1975\n\n\noil and Magna on canvas\n\n\n70 x 80 in. Grand Avenue\, Los Angeles\, CA 90012\nThe Broad makes its collection of contemporary art from the 1950s to the present accessible to the widest possible audience by presenting exhibitions and operating a lending program to art museums and galleries worldwide. \nBy actively building a dynamic collection that features in-depth representations of influential contemporary artists and by advancing education and engagement through exhibitions and diverse public programming\, the museum enriches\, provokes\, inspires\, and fosters appreciation of art of our time. \n \nThe Broad was founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler\, the museum offers free general admission and presents an active program of rotating temporary exhibitions and innovative audience engagement. The Broad is home to 2\,000 works of art in the Broad collection\, which is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. \n  \n \nThe Broad from Home\nThe Broad is committed to inspiring and fostering an appreciation of contemporary art through our digital initiatives. Experience #TheBroadFromHome to find inspiration through music\, poetry\, performance\, workshops\, and conversations centered around the Broad collection. \nOverview \nPerformances \nTalks & Conversations \nArtist Spotlight \nFamily Art Workshops \nMore Online Programs \n  \nThe Broad Collection\nEli and Edythe Broad have been building their collection of postwar and contemporary art over the last 50 years. With a belief that the greatest art collections are built when the art is being made\, the Broads took to collecting art of their own time. \nThe Broad is home to 2\,000 works in the Broad collection by more than 200 artists\, and is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. The collection features in-depth holdings of influential contemporary artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Mark Bradford\, Jasper Johns\, Jeff Koons\, Barbara Kruger\, Yayoi Kusama\, Kerry James Marshall\, Julie Mehretu\, Takashi Murakami\, Robert Rauschenberg\, Ed Ruscha\, Cindy Sherman\, Cy Twombly\, Andy Warhol\, and more\, plus an ever-growing representation of younger artists. \n  \nView Our Collection Here\n \nIn Under the Table\, 1994\, the viewer is both in the world of imaginary giants and in the world of remembered childhood. Fusing Alice in Wonderland with the Duchampian tradition of the readymade\, Artist Robert Therrien constructs a doppelganger from an everyday object\, both displaying his visual wit and actualizing literary or imaginative fantasy in three-dimensional space. The table exudes an extraordinary aura\, compelling one to walk underneath the table and conjuring the physical memory of being under the table of one’s childhood home. Complicated and powerful\, the work offers fresh ideas of what a table\, sculpture\, and memory can mean. \n  \n  \n \nUsing the recognizable form of a balloon twisted into the shape of a dog\, Koons has frozen a moment in time\, exaggerating both scale and material. \nBalloon Dog (Blue) is literal and abstract. When standing close to it\, one’s own distorted reflection bends around smooth pert curves. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission is Free\nAll visitors must reserve timed tickets in advance. Some exhibitions and events carry a separate charge. \n\n\n\n\n\nHours\nMonday: Closed\nTuesday – Wednesday: 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.\nThursday – Friday: 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.\nSaturday: 10:00 a.m.-8:00p.m.\nSunday: 10:00 a.m.-6:00p.m. \n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.thebroad.org\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:Cars and Coffee Los Angeles
DESCRIPTION:LAST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH- Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round Lot \nCars & Coffee Los Angeles is a Classic Car Show held at the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round Lot #1\, located at 4730 Crystal Springs Dr\, Los Angeles\, CA 90027. The Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round is a nostalgia-inducing gem that\, much like Disneyland\, is still enjoyed by the young and the young-at-heart decades after its inception. The small carousel\, which is tucked away into a quiet corner of the park\, served as Walt Disney’s inspiration for Disneyland. When his children were young\, Walt\, a Los Feliz denizen\, took them to the merry-go-round on weekends. During one visit\, while sitting on a bench watching his kids circle round and round\, he was inspired to create a large scale gathering site that the whole family could enjoy. His dream was realized on July 17\, 1955\, when Disneyland opened to the public. \n \n  \nClassic Car Show with a little coffee and some amazing automobiles\nLast Sunday of every month\n  \n \nCars & Coffee Los Angeles was founded to bring together like-minded automotive\, photography\, and design enthusiasts. SUMMARY:The Museum of Contemporary Art
DESCRIPTION:Barbara Kruger\, Untitled (Questions)- DTLA\n\n  \n\n\nMOCA has reinstalled the monumental wall work by Los Angeles–based artist Barbara Kruger (b. New York 1945)\, Untitled (Questions) (1990/2018). The emblematic red\, white\, and blue artwork was originally commissioned by MOCA in 1989 for the exhibition A Forest of Signs: Art in the Crisis of Representation\, and was last installed in 1990 on the south wall of MOCA’s building (now The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA). The work holds an iconic place in the collective memory of Los Angeles’s art community and is considered one of the museum’s curatorial highlights over its forty-year history. \n\nThis iteration is installed on the north facade of The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA\, facing Temple Street and measuring 30 by 191 feet. Asking nine questions including “Who is beyond the law?\,” “Who is bought and sold?\,” and “Who is free to choose?\,” the work points to issues of patriotism\, civic engagement\, and power relations. In connection with the work\, MOCA led a series of voter registration efforts during the 2018 midterms\, and will continue these efforts in advance of the 2020 general election. \n\nThis project was initiated by MOCA Director Klaus Biesenbach and is organized by MOCA Senior Curator Bennett Simpson. \nThis installation of Barbara Kruger’s Untitled (Questions) is generously supported by an anonymous donor. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nONE MUSEUM. TWO LOCATIONS- Free Every Thursday\n\nWelcome to The Museum of Contemporary Art. With two distinct venues—MOCA Grand Avenue and The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA—and Michael Heizer’s seminal artwork Double Negative (1969-70) in the Nevada desert\, we engage audiences through an ambitious program of exhibitions\, educational programs\, and publishing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWelcome to The Museum of Contemporary Art\, Los Angeles\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are contemporary.\nWe question and adapt to the changing definitions of art. \n  \nWe are a museum.\nWe present\, collect\, and interpret the art of our time. \n  \nWe care\nfor the experience of art\, the inevitability of change\, the multiplicity of perspectives\, the urgency of contemporary expression. \n\nWith 2 distinct venues in Los Angeles\n\nMOCA Grand Avenue\n250 South Grand Avenue\nLos Angeles\, CA 90012 \nArchitect Arata Isozaki designed MOCA Grand Avenue in 1986 with classical architecture and Los Angeles popular culture in mind. Today this location hosts the museum’s main galleries\, Lemonade café\, the flagship location of the MOCA Store\, and staff offices. \nmore info at: Grand Ave \n\n\n\n\n\n\n250 S Grand Ave \nLos Angeles\, CA 90012 \n\n\nGet directions\n\n\n\n\n  \n \nThe Geffen Contemporary at MOCA\n152 North Central Avenue\nLos Angeles\, CA 90012 \nA former police car warehouse in L.A.’s Little Tokyo Historic District\, renovated by the noted California architect Frank Gehry\, The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA (formerly The Temporary Contemporary) opened in 1983. This location offers 40\,000 square feet of exhibition space. \nmore info at: Geffen \n\n\n  \n \nand Michael Heizer’s seminal artwork Double Negative (1969-70) in the Nevada desert\,\nOverton Airport- Mormon Mesa\, Overton\, Nevada (80 miles from Las Vegas)\n1110 Airport Road\nOverton\, NV 89040 \nDouble Negative was constructed by Michael Heizer in the Nevada desert in 1969 and remains one of the few still extant examples of what are commonly referred to as earthworks\, land art\, or environmental sculpture. The land art movement first appeared in the late 1960s and served to challenge the location\, material\, size\, and temporal existence of a work of art. Double Negative consists of two long straight trenches\, 30 feet wide and 50 feet deep\, cut into the “tabletop” of Mormon Mesa\, displacing 240\,000 tons of desert sandstone. The cuts face each other across an indentation in the plateaus’ scalloped perimeter\, forming a continuous image\, a thick linear volume that bridges and combines the “negative” space between them. \nmore info at: Double Negative \n\nAdmission to Double Negative by artist Michael Heizer is always free.\n\nHours\nMonday: 11:00 a.m.-6:00p.m.\nTuesday: Closed\nWednesday: 11:00 a.m.-6:00p.m.\nThursday: 11:00 a.m.-8:00p.m.\nFriday: 11:00 a.m.-6:00p.m.\nSaturday – Sunday: 11:00 a.m.-5:00p.m. \n  \nGeneral Admission: Free\nSpecial exhibitions: $18\nMembers: Free\nChildren under 12: Free\nSeniors and students: $10 \nSpecial exhibitions are free every Thursday\, 5-8pm.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.moca.org\n \n  \n\n\nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n
