This was likely in the 1950s or ‘60s\, according to one bartender. It was also formerly known as Donna’s Red Carpet and Robin’s Roost. The notoriously heartbroken late singer-songwriter Elliott Smith used to frequent the bar\, which makes sense because to this day after a given hour (around 10 p.m.) the craggy\, old regulars are replaced with a consciously disheveled crowd of musicians and artists. \n \nPlaces like the Roost are quickly becoming extinct in Los Angeles. The counterculture lifestyle as defined by the modern hipster is morphing into the mainstream\, as is its habit of appropriating places\, fashions and art once considered marginal by the masses. One day someone will buy the Roost and turn it into a fancy simulacrum of itself and you’ll be sad that you didn’t know it back when. \n \nMixed drinks are strong and cheap here\, and something in the air at the Roost (maybe the smell of popcorn mixed with a legacy of stale smoke) makes a simple gin and tonic or vodka soda taste like the stuff of gods. Don’t be afraid to order from the well. As the longest-standing\, independent\, live music venue in Silverlake\, the blending of the two subcultures has cemented its place in local history. The Silverlake Lounge is a place of diversity and a safe space for Creatives and the Queer BIPOC community. It is one of the few properties left that serves the whole of its community. \nOur continued mission is to produce nightly entertainment that presents independent\, emerging artists to greater Los Angeles and its welcomed travelers while remaining a local watering hole for the East Side neighborhood. DESCRIPTION:OPEN EVERYDAY- Griffith Park\nThe Old LA Zoo\, or The Griffith Park Zoo\, opened in 1912 and closed in 1966 with the opening of the new\, Los Angeles Zoo. The abandoned site of the Griffith Park Zoo\, complete with the ruins of animal enclosures\, is now a picnic area and hiking trail in Griffith Park. \n  \n \nThe Old LA Zoo opened in 1912 with a grand total of only 15 animals. Bears\, Lions\, Monkeys\, Macaw’s\, Elephants\, Reptiles\, Goats\, and Turtles now lived in the zoo\, which was built on the original site of Griffith J. Griffith‘s defunct ostrich farm. \n  \n \nAs Los Angeles grew\, the small Griffith Park Zoo was increasingly criticized as an “inadequate\, ugly\, poorly designed despite drawing more than 2 million visitors a year.  \nIn 1958\, the city decided to create a brand new zoo\, and the Griffith Park Zoo closed in August 1966. Its animals were transferred to the new Los Angeles Zoo 2 miles away\, which opened a few months later. \n  \n \nThe animal enclosures\, with the bars removed\, were left as ruins and remain today. A large picnic area was added\, and NOW every summer\, the zoo is the location for the Independent Shakespeare Company’s  Free “Shakespeare in the Park” performances. \nThe Old Zoo is located on Griffith Park Dr. Only 2 miles from today’s LA Zoo\,   \n  \n \nUpon arriving\, you will see a small parking lot. After this first batch\, we were hooked! We invested more time in learning about the process\, fabricated custom brewing equipment and experimented with new recipes while tweaking them to make them our own.After serving samples of our homemade brews and getting positive feedback\, we began talking of doing it legit and opening up a brewery!  Given our Valley roots and the fact our beer was brewed out of a garage in Sylmar\, CA\, we decided 818 Brewing was the perfect name and we filed our paperwork in October 2014 for our new venture. \nWhat we’ve enjoyed the most along our journey is the sense of community within the craft brew scene. DESCRIPTION:TONIGHT @ 9:30- Silverlake\nThe Silverlake Lounge presents \nLazy River Presents – A Songwriters Open Mic hosted by Zach & Rach\nList Sign Up at 6:00pm \nThis is a 21+ event. \n\n \n\n  \nThe Silverlake Lounge is one of the oldest drinking establishments on LA’s eastside\, serving the community as a nightlife venue since 1938. The bar has a long and celebrated history within the Indie Music Scene and the LGBT community that continues to this day. Settling into its current iteration around 1975\, it was an early stage for drag and gay cabaret acts and a safe space for non-identifying Latinx locals. In the early 2000s\, it gained notoriety as one of the central hubs and incubators for the blossoming indie music scene. \n \nBands like Rilo Kiley\, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club\, and The Silversun Pickups all started on our stage. As the longest-standing\, independent\, live music venue in Silverlake\, the blending of the two subcultures has cemented its place in local history. The Silverlake Lounge is a place of diversity and a safe space for Creatives and the Queer BIPOC community. It is one of the few properties left that serves the whole of its community. \nOur continued mission is to produce nightly entertainment that presents independent\, emerging artists to greater Los Angeles and its welcomed travelers while remaining a local watering hole for the East Side neighborhood. We feature lineups that represent the color and diversity of our community— indie\, punk\, country\, and folk artists’ sets\, singer/songwriter showcases\, weekend drag cabaret\, comedy\, and karaoke. DESCRIPTION:EVERY WEDNESDAY- Marina del Rey\nThe Marina del Rey Sunset Series Regattas\, are a series of sailing races\, put on by The California Yacht Club. Races take place Wednesday from May – September. Best viewing spots are at Fisherman’s Village and Burton Chace Park. Have your camera ready around 7:30 to capture the multitude of sailboats returning to the harbor’s main channel. Enjoy the 2021 Sunset Series\, promising a new season of exciting Wednesday evening races.  Look for our traditional Racing and Cruising Division classes on the race course and a renewed focus on family-friendly fun. \n  \n  \n  \n \nCalifornia Yacht Club was started in 1922 in Los Angeles harbor by a group of dedicated yachtsman – most from Los Angeles Athletic Club and the rest active in other early yacht clubs of the day. They built a magnificent clubhouse with an anchorage of several hundred sail and power boats.\n\n\nOffshore speedboat contests and long distance cruising were active pursuits as well as sailing ‘ round the buoys. CYC’s trophy case was filled to bursting early on and the Club contributed many of the leaders of Southern California’s early yachting organizations. The Clubhouse was the scene of many Los Angeles area social activities and drew visitors from around the world.\n\n\nThe California Yacht Club is located in beautiful Marina del Rey\, which is the largest manmade small craft harbor in the Western Hemisphere. CYC is one of several clubs in the marina but is one of only two clubs that offers full services to its members. The current club facility was built in 1967 having relocated from its temporary facility elsewhere in the marina. The California Yacht Club was founded in 1922 in Wilmington Harbor near San Pedro. When Marina del Rey was constructed in the early 1960’s\, CYC relocated. \nToday the club serves its very active and diverse membership needs by providing club programs\, events and facilities that have earned the respect as being one of the leading Yacht Clubs in the country. In addition to the striking views offered from its clubhouse\, the club has one of the finest boat anchorages in the marina. Only club members are allowed to rent slips at the club. Members can enjoy the use of the club’s spa and heated pool\, enjoy a game of paddle tennis or relax in the Member’s Lounge. The clubhouse and offices are open Wednesday through Sunday although the docks and grounds are accessible at any time. Members can enjoy the many dining services offered in addition to the many formal and informal social events that the club is known for hosting. The heart and soul of any yacht club is its boating activities. CYC members are well known for their cruising\, sailing\, powerboating and rowing accomplishments. Check the weapon class page for regulations to make sure the hilt you purchase is Lightspeed legal. \nNote that you do not need a Lightspeed blade to start practicing moves. You only need one once you begin competing. The standard blade that comes with your purchase should be fine for the time being. \n  \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSTEP 4 – LEARN BASIC MOVES AND CONCEPTS\nWe have tons of free information available for Lightspeed Saber fencing. But if you’re practicing alone\, you may want to learn our sequences. This is a growing library of technical exercises that help you fine tune your technique without a partner. You can do this on your own and evaluate yourself\, or you can enroll in our program\, where we’ll evaluate you to make sure you’re doing everything right.
