DESCRIPTION:OPEN SATURDAYS & SUNDAYS- LAX\nThe Flight Path Museum & Learning Center is an aviation and aerospace museum with unique artifacts and views of the LAX runway. Flight Path Learning Center of Southern California was founded in 1995 as a nonprofit\, community-based organization to honor aviation pioneers\, recognize the economic importance of aviation and aerospace to Southern California\, and encourage youth to pursue education and careers in aviation-related fields. The kickoff project was a series of sidewalk plaques in the LAX business district saluting aviation pioneers\, organizations and locations. This “Flight Path” is the aviation equivalent of the famed Hollywood Walk of Fame. \n \n\n  \nUnique among the fine aviation museums in Southern California is the Flight Path Museum’s location\, the only aviation museum and research center situated at a major airport and the only facility with a primary emphasis on contributions of civil aviation to the history and development of Southern California. \n\n\nThe Flight Path Museum gallery of exhibits\, filled with memories of aviation’s golden years\, is located adjacent to the LAX airfield\, where today’s aircraft and travelers arrive and depart the world’s busiest origin and destination airport. No other museum offers such a perspective on contemporary aircraft and aviation. \n\nExhibits\n\n\n\nCOMMERCIAL AVIATION HISTORY EXHIBIT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Flight Path museum houses an extensive collection of airline artifacts from the beginning of the commercial aviation era to present day. Experience the glamour of flight at the dawn of long-haul travel. \n  \n\n \n\n\nFLIGHT CREW UNIFORM EXHIBIT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFlight Path has over 600 uniforms from 68 airlines from around the world covering most of commercial flight history. Several pieces were special editions to mark specific events. Several of the uniforms are on display\, while others can be viewed by request in the archive. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n \nDC-3 PLANE EXHIBIT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Douglas DC-3 is a propeller-driven airliner which had a lasting effect on the airline industry in the 1930s/1940s and World War II. It was developed as a larger\, improved 14-bed sleeper version of the Douglas DC-2. It is a low-wing metal monoplane with a tailwheel landing gear\, with a cruise speed of 207 mph (333 km/h)\, commercial capacity of 21 to 32 passengers or 6\,000 lbs (2\,700 kg) of cargo\, a range of 1\,500 mi (2\,400 km)\, and could operate from short runways.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Aircraft was displayed for many years at the California Science Center in Exposition Park in Los Angeles. It has been on loan to the Flight Path Museum LAX since September 2006. \n  \n\n\n\n\nSPACE EXPLORATION EXHIBIT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAstronaut Flight Suit\nSpace Debris\nModel Rockets\nTribute to 50 years since the Apollo Program\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFlight Path hosts the Space Exploration Gallery that spotlights the history and development of space flight. The gallery showcases a colorful and informative timeline of space exploration history together with a number of important space artifacts. Included is the flight suit of astronaut Gen. Kevin P. Chilton\, commander of the Endeavour and Atlantis space shuttles. \nThere is an extension to the exhibit in the entrance courtyard where a piece from a spacecraft that has re-entered the atmosphere can be observed. \n\n\n\n\n\nFLYING TIGERS EXHIBIT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFlying Tiger Line\, also known as Flying Tigers\, was the first scheduled cargo airline in the United States and a major military charter operator during the Cold War era for both cargo and personnel. The airline was bought by Federal Express in 1988.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe airline was named after the Flying Tigers fighter unit of World War II\, officially the 1st American Volunteer Group. Ten former AVG pilots formed the Flying Tiger Line (established as National Skyway Freight) after returning to the United States in 1945\, using a small fleet of Budd Company C-93 Conestoga freighters purchased as war surplus from the United States Navy. The pilots and two ground crew provided half of the initial investment\, with the balance coming from California oil tycoon Samuel B. Mosher. For the next four years\, Flying Tiger Line carried air freight on contract throughout the U.S. and\, as the airline expanded\, carrying supplies to U.S. troops under Gen. Douglas MacArthur during the occupation of Japan. \n  \n\n\n\n\nFIRE FIGHTING VEHICLE EXHIBIT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn permanent display on the airside of the museum is a retied ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting)  truck used at LAX. The Oshkosh M3000 model was manufactured by Oshkosh Corporation in Appleton\, Wisconsin and entered service at LAX in 1995\, it stayed in operation for about a decade and a half. Maximum operating load is 148\,000lbs\, 3\,000 gallons of water and 500 gallons of foam. Made to reach potential accidents sites at top speed\, it reached speeds of 50mph in a sprint.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nToday\, ARFF operations at LAX are conducted out of one station near the center of the airport\, Station 80 is a part of the Los Angeles Fire Department. They currently operate six Panther trucks manufactured by Rosenbauer America. Like monuments and national anthems\, they intend to create a sense of identity-based on a shared past\, present\, and future. \nLike many other governments\, the communist countries of the twentieth century produced an abundance of flags and banners. They were omnipresent at military parades\, sports events\, and public gatherings. Apart from national flags\, many organizations produced their own richly decorated flags and banners. The Wende Museum holds over 2\,000 of these ornamental textiles in its collection. \nMartin Roemers: Relics of the Cold War\n \nDuring an eleven-year period\, from 1998 through 2009\, Dutch photographer Martin Roemers photographed the structural and topographic remnants of the Cold War in both the East and West. His research took him to Russia\, Poland\, Czech Republic\, Ukraine\, Latvia\, Lithuania\, Great Britain\, Netherlands\, Belgium\, and Germany\, where he documented underground tunnels\, abandoned army bases\, military training areas\, rotting tanks\, and destroyed monuments. \nLight–guard–house: Installation by Farrah Karapetian\n \nThe 20-square-foot aluminum guardhouse that sat outside the ADN headquarters in East Berlin from 1971–92 is both an artifact of an atmosphere of mistrust and representative of past and current political protectionism. Artist Farrah Karapetian will turn this structure into a lighthouse\, changing a gesture of suspicion into a gesture of welcome. The windows of the guardhouse will be tinted in a rainbow gradient encompassing all of the colors potentially included in national flags. Over the course of Wende’s concurrent exhibition\, The Medium is the Message: Flags and Banners\, Karapetian will engage with the public about experiences they have had as migrants. As the stories accumulate and become available on the museum’s website\, the light inside the lighthouse will pause at the various colors associated with the flags of the respective national borders crossed. The museum’s collection primary focuses on the history of railroad transportation in the western United States from 1880 to the 1930s is\, with an emphasis on Southern California and the Los Angeles area. \n\n\n\n\n\n \nFREE Docent Tours are held the 2nd Saturdays of the month\nfrom 11:00 am until 3:00 pm.\nGroup tours are available by reservation. The ride travels around the museum twice. \n(16″ gauge) are: \nThe Courage – 2-6-0 Mogul\nA 2-6-0 mogul built by Gerry Bowden in 1993. Sister locomotive to the Stanley Diamond. \nThis locomotive and its brother unit the Stanley Diamond were built in Oregon in 1993 to a design by our chief engineer\, Gene Gustavson. They are modeled after the narrow gauge locomotives that worked the timber and mining areas of the West during the early part of the century. This unit has identical power as the Colonel Griffith. \n \n  \nhe 1986 – Diesel Switcher\nDiesel switcher built by Gerry Bowden in 1986. \nA classic yard goat design\, this locomotive is modeled after the EMD series of yard switchers. It is fitting that this is our heaviest and most powerful locomotive. \n \n  \nPullman style – Six seat coaches\nsix seat coaches built by George Reddington in 1956 for Gene Autry’s Melody Ranch Special train. \nSimilar to the Pullman style coaches at GPS but longer\, steel covers were added to these coaches in 1989 because Travel Town did not have a loading platform cover to protect the passenger seats from the sun. These coaches originally were a part of a set with a steam locomotive. The locomotive burned out its boiler and was sold in \n \n  \nThis railroad is one of three miniature railway train rides within Griffith Park. The others are the 18 1⁄2 in (470 mm) gauge Griffith Park & Southern Railroad and the 7 1⁄2 in (190.5 mm) gauge miniature railway at the Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad Museum. The latter is independently operated. \nBe sure to also  visit during the holiday season to take advantage of the Holiday Light Festival Train Ride\, when the Museum is festively decorated and tens of thousands of lights transform the area into a magical wonderland. DESCRIPTION:Net Cruze Cars And Coffee- Westchester\, California\nNet Cruze Cars And Coffee events have been going for decades.  And that was news to me upon my first stop in mid-August. \nBut they’re in a new location.  And it’s kind of tricky in that it’s a huge parking lot behind the 99-cents store in Westchester.  Further\, this is a cool event worth checking out for sure. \nSo cars from the ’30s through ’50s are pretty well represented.  And that’s both originals and customs.  Then\, when I was there\, there was a Corvette Club represented too.  All newer C7s but nicely done as well. \nBut everyone and everything is welcome.  For instance\, there was an older Bronco\, a newer Porsche\, and even a Studebaker on hand. \nAdditionally\, the organizers offered coffee and pastries.  Plus a raffle drawing toward the end that kept everyone on hand for cash prizes\, gas cards\, and even handbags for the ladies. \n\n \n1939 Buick \n\nNet Cruze Cars And Coffee – Westchester\, California\nLocation: 6835 La Tijera Blvd.\nAdmission: Free\nVehicle registration: Free \n  \nHours\n2nd and 4th Saturdays: 9:00am – 12:00pm \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.idrivesocal.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

This 2021 Season we will be debuting the Hummingbird trail (Park to Playa trail + Bowl loop)\, which is more flat and takes you through a beautiful hummingbird garden. DESCRIPTION:OPEN YEAR ROUND- Griffith Park\nThe Trail to Amir’s Garden is a 1.1 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located LA’s Griffith Park. This shady rest stop and memorial garden features beautiful wild flowers and water-bearing\, fire-resistive succulents interspersed with natives and memorial trees and plants. The trail is primarily used for hiking\, walking\, running\, nature trips\, and horses and is accessible year-round. It is rated as moderately difficult trail. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe gardens are cared for by official volunteers since its creation in 1971. Amir’s Garden is considered a rest stop and not a dedicated picnic area\, therefore it can’t be reserved for events. The nearest restrooms are located at Mineral Wells Picnic Area. Activities related to the care of a large garden may be taking place at any time\, including watering. Amir’s Garden is a most pleasant place for a hike-in picnic\, with a selection of picnic tables.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe History of Amir’s Garden\nAmir Dialameh worked a steep hill in Griffith Park for than three decades with a pick and shovel and turned a scorched\, barren landscape into a lush\, shaded grove that is visited daily by a steady stream of hikers and horseback riders. \nFor thirty-two years\, Dialameh worked in the garden most days of the week\, hiking up a service road to the rugged Mineral Wells location. Over the years\, he planted pine and jacaranda trees along with rose bushes\, geraniums\, oleander\, and yucca that grew into the beautiful oasis it is today. \n“…what you need first and foremost here is shade\,” Dialameh explained in 1989. “That’s why I planted trees like the jacaranda. In ten years\, this place will be covered with their branches.” \nHis words were prophetic. Today Amir’s Garden is nearly five-acres of shady rest stop for Griffith Park’s hikers and equestrians. \nDialameh first came to appreciate nature as a child during hiking trips in the Alborz Mountains of his native Iran. As his love of hiking and nature developed\, so did his affinity for the United States of America. \n“I was intrigued by the volunteerism that built this country… people doing things instead of relying on the government.” In 1963 while visiting his brother in Pittsburgh\, Dialameh made the ultimate decision to immigrate and moved to the Los Angeles area. \n\n\nGetting There\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe hike to Amir’s Garden actually begins near one of Griffith Park’s larger picnic areas\, Mineral Well Picnic Area. Find the dirt service road heading west from the intersection of Griffith Park Drive and Mineral Wells Road. \nWalk straight through an immediate junction and follow the dirt road on a southwestern climb to Amir’s Garden. After a horseshoe bend in the road\, and a quarter mile from the start\, you will pass a water tower that is accompanied by broad views stretching beyond Griffith Park toward Glendale\, the Verdugo Mountains\, and San Gabriel Mountains. \n \nLooking back down the trail\nAfter less than half a mile\, the trail arrives at Amir’s Garden where you’ll discover a pocket of tall sycamores arcing over a mountainside of verdant plants including succulents like ice plant and jade. There are a few picnic tables at the entrance of Amir’s Garden and others hidden throughout. \n  \n \nAmir’s Garden\n\nStroll through a web of footpaths and recharge your batteries in this refreshing Griffith Park retreat. With extra effort\, you may continue up North Trail toward Mount Hollywood\, Mount Bell and other peaks in Griffith Park. Otherwise\, return the way you came for a satisfying 1-mile round trip hike. No fee or permit is required to hike to Amir’s Garden and dogs are welcome.\n\nTo get to the trailhead: Take the 5 Freeway to the Los Feliz Boulevard exit. Drive west on Los Feliz Boulevard to the first light and turn north on Crystal Springs Road. After 1.5 miles\, turn left on Griffith Park Drive and drive 1.2 miles to the intersection with Mineral Wells Road. Turn left onto Mineral Wells Road and park immediately in the spaces along the road. You’ll probably see lots of people standing right outside the doors of the theater. \n\n \n1607 North Vermont Avenue\, Los Angeles\, CA 90027 \n \nThe Clubhouse is your home base for indie improv shows and classes\, sketch\, and a place for the comm. It is an independently owned and operated comedy theatre in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles. There are classes and shows 7 days a week\, 365 days a year. \nEvery show at the Clubhouse is run by the people who perform there and is offered free of charge. The entire theatre is paid for by the donations that are taken at each show. If you do not have cash on hand\, most teams offer their Venmo or Paypal info. The Clubhouse is also the only theatre in town that offers ample free parking on site for everyone both onstage and in the audience. There are plenty of options for new and seasoned improvisers\, comics\, and writers to get stage time. \n \nUnlike many other theaters in Los Angeles\, the Clubhouse has no house teams\, has no specific form or curriculum\, and is open to everybody.
