Magnolia Blvd.\, Burbank\, CA 91506 \n\n\nWorld’s First Museum dedicated to the Arts Begins\n\nThe Martial Arts History Museum officially began as a registered museum on Sept. 15\, 1999. It was founded by former magazine publisher\, martial arts historian and martial arts veteran Michael Matsuda. The concept of the museum actually began in 1987 but didn’t officially begin until 1999. \nAfter a number of dinner ceremonies and special events\, the Martial Arts History Museum gathered the biggest martial arts icons in the world to cut the ribbon in launching the first of many traveling exhibits. For the next four years\, the museum was on the road going all across the country. From libraries to conventions to expos to the Queen Mary\, the museum was housed in a 1\,000 square foot exhibit with wonderful reviews the museum exhibit was in high demand. \n \nAfter numerous meetings with the L.A. City Council\, Mayor Villariagosa’s staff\, the California Senate\, the San Fernando City Council\, and more\, it was through the urging of Congressman Howard McKeon and the Mayor of Santa Clarita\, that the Martial Arts History Museum open their doors in a brick and mortar facility in the city of Santa Clarita. The museum opened in 2006 in an 8\,000 square foot facility which featured a wide range of displays as well as a 200-plus seat theater. The city of Santa Clarita had provided us with future plans to construct are area for three museums\, which would include the Martial Arts History. Unfortunately\, a year later\, a new leadership was in control and their future plans for a museum center were canceled. \nIn 2010\, the museum decided to relocate to a city that would be more open to art and culture; which was the city of Burbank\, CA. Burbank is a very populated area surrounded by Hollywood’s biggest productions studios. In 2011\, the museum re-opened to the public holding a significant number of events every month. Being located in Burbank\, many of the local schools were now able to visit the facility. From Unified School Districts from Burbank\, Los Angeles\, Glendale and Pasadena\, thousands of young people enjoy the museum tours. \n \nFREE DAYS: First Thursday of the month\, 3pm to 6pm\nHours\nMonday – Wednesday: Closed\nThursday – Sunday: 11:00am – 6:00pm \nAdmission\n$10 – Adults\n$5 – Kids 6 – 17 \n$8 – Adults 65+\n$8 – “Active” Military \nSpecial Events\n$20 Adults\nFree – Kids 6 – 17 \nDiscount:\n$8 – Senior Citizens 65 and Over\n$8 – Active Military\nPolice – Free\nFiremen – Free \nMembers\nFREE to all events held at the Museum \n  \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://martialartsmuseum.com/\n \n  \nFind more

The museum’s mission is to further intercultural understanding through the arts of Asia and the Pacific Islands. \nThe museum’s historic building has served as a center for art\, culture\, and learning in Pasadena since its construction in 1924 by pioneering collector and entrepreneur Grace Nicholson (1877-1948) as her residence\, galleries\, and Treasure House/emporium. Ms. Nicholson’s championing of Asian art early in the century set the tone for much of the Pasadena community’s arts-related activities during the ensuing decades. The building also served as the site of the Pasadena Art Museum\, which was renowned for its groundbreaking exhibitions of contemporary art. Pacific Asia Museum combined the spirits of both its predecessors in its focus on the classic and contemporary arts of Asia and the Pacific Islands. In 2013\, the University of Southern California partnered with the museum to form USC Pacific Asia Museum. The affiliation broadened the community that benefits from the museum’s role as a vital resource for education and cultural heritage and expanded the audience’s interest in a dialogue about art\, history\, and culture. \n \nVISION\nUSC PAM is a dynamic and innovative teaching and learning resource for USC and its surrounding communities featuring; \n\nExhibitions that contest worn assumptions\, bridge perspectives\, and expand understanding\nEducational opportunities that connect cultures\, disciplines\, and generations\nPrograms that engage our common life\, even in the absence of common ground\n\nVALUES\nAt USC PAM we believe in the power of art to connect us to our deepest humanity and that of others. \nAs such\, we: \n\nSupport the Mission and Vision of USC.\nEnlist art to expand understanding and bridge divides.\nCollect and exhibit exemplary works that amplify artist voices and lift up community narratives.\nSteward the objects entrusted to our care for the benefit of successive generations.\nUse our resources to inspire a plurality of audiences.\nFoster a sense of community both on and off-campus.\nExplore and validate diversity.\nPromote civil and civic discourse.\nSecure long-term sustainability.\nManage resources prudently.\n\n\nHours\nMonday-Tuesday: Closed\nWednesday – Sunday: 11:00am – 5:00pm \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \npacificasiamuseum.usc.edu/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:BLACK HISTORY EVERY MONTH
DESCRIPTION:FREE! TUES – SUNDAY- Exposition Park\nThe California African American Museum (CAAM) focuses on enrichment and education on the cultural heritage and history of African Americans with a focus on California and western United States. \nAdmission is free to all visitors. The California African American Museum’s mission is to research\, collect\, preserve\, and interpret for public enrichment the history\, art\, and culture of African Americans with an emphasis on California and the western United States. \n \n  \n  \nCAAM’s permanent collection consists of over 4\,000 objects ranging from the 1800s to the present. It encompasses paintings\, photographs\, film\, sculpture\, historical documents\, and artifacts\, and it spans nineteenth-century landscape paintings to modern artworks to contemporary mixed-media reflections on cultural and political events. \n \n  \nThe Museum’s first acquisitions included a bronze bust of civil rights activist Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune by artist Richmond Barthé and a sculpture by artist Maren Hassinger\, then at the start of her career. These laid the perfect groundwork for CAAM’s mandate to assemble a comprehensive\, thoughtful\, and wide-reaching collection. \n \n  \nCAAM’s deepest holdings include art made or connected to African Americans in California and the western United States. However\, the Museum also has significant works of contemporary art from the African diaspora (including Haiti\, Brazil\, and Jamaica)\, as well as traditional African art from Western\, Central\, and Sub-Saharan Africa. CAAM aims to represent the diverse contributions of African Americans in the United States\, but also to interpret how the past has affected identity in the present. \n  \n  \nToday\, CAAM oversees\, exhibits\, and conserves a rapidly growing collection. Each quarter\, curators review the current holdings and decide as a committee on future acquisitions. We view our collection as a living body — constantly evolving\, growing\, and reflecting the world in which we live. \n \n  \nSome examples of CAAM’s collection include the Walter Burrell Collection of audio recordings of Burrell’s interviews with African American celebrities\, broadcast by a local radio station in the early 1970s; the oral histories of Celes King\, who was both a local civil rights activist as well as a former Tuskegee airman; and selections from the collection of visual artist John Outterbridge. \n  \n \nHours\nTuesdays – Saturdays: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.\nSundays: 11:00 a.m.-5:00p.m.\nMondays: Closed \n  \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \ncaamuseum.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Nethercutt Museum
DESCRIPTION:FREE EVERY THURSDAY – SUNDAY- Sylmar\n\n\nFounder JB Nethercutt spent a lifetime establishing this collection of historic importance. Unique to automobile museums\, each car on display is attentively serviced and maintained to remain as drivable as when the vehicle originally rolled off the showroom floor. On view are various Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance winners and cars once owned by movie stars\, royalty and other notable personalities. \n  \n\nBuilding ONE: The Nethercutt Museum FREE!\nThe entire collection is housed in two beautifully appointed exhibit facilities located just north of Los Angeles. Housed in the Museum is the Nethercutt Automotive Research Library and Archives \, one of the world’s top automotive research facilities. Just steps outside the Museum are a resplendently restored steam locomotive and railcar. \nOpened in 1971\, The Nethercutt Collection is a not-for-profit educational institution and a resource for automobile enthusiasts\, historians\, students and scholars. It is open to the public at no charge. The Nethercutt Museum showcases more than 130 of the world’s greatest antique\, vintage\, classic and special interest automobiles including many top winners of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. \n\n\n  \n \nTHE ANTIQUE ERA (1890s – 1915)\nInnovation and experimentation were at the heart of this era and provided the catalyst for the automobiles’ development. By the late-19th century\, “horseless carriages” were being built by small groups of artisans\, craftsmen and engineers on a small scale\, with many taking characteristics from the wagons they were replacing. \n\n\nTHE VINTAGE ERA (1916 – 1924)\nA class of cars that came to be known today as “vintage\,” fits in between the expensive coach built brands that became classics and the inexpensive models represented by Ford\, Chevrolet and Dodge. These cars sold for between $500 and $2\,000. They had basic engineering features but had better cosmetic appointments such as visors\, cigar lighters and wool broadcloth interiors. \n  \n \nTHE CLASSIC ERA (1925 – 1948)\nThis era elevated the common automobile to a status symbol\, as evidenced by their cost. When common vehicles sold for $400 to about $1\,200\, the classic car had a price tag of $2\,000 to $20\,000. \n  \n\nTHE POST-WAR ERA (1945 – 1970s)\nThroughout the 1950s\, engine power and vehicle speeds rose\, designs became better integrated and more stylized\, and cars grew more popular across the world. The auto market slightly shifted in the 1960s\, causing Detroit to worry about foreign competition. European makers adopted even greater technology and Japan appeared as a serious car-producing nation. \n  \n \nTHE MUSEUM LOCOMOTIVE & PRIVATE CAR\n1937 Canadian Pacific Royal Hudson Locomotive #2839: \n#2839 was built by Montreal Locomotive Works and is resplendent in its Royal maroon\, gold leaf\, gloss black and brushed stainless steel livery\, is a testament to the grand era of steam locomotive engineering. The Hudson type is a 4-6-4 wheel arrangement and was a high-speed passenger locomotive with a top speed of 90 mph. \n1912 Pullman Private Car #100 California: \nCustom built by Pullman in Chicago\, Illinois for Clara Baldwin Stocker the eldest Daughter of local Pioneer “Lucky” Baldwin. This railcar has been beautifully restored back to 1912 \nBuilding TWO: The Nethercutt Collection: Available by Tour Only  advanced reservations are required- $10\n  \n \nLower Salon\n\nThe Lower Salon is where guests assemble to start the guided tour. The salon is a microcosm of the entire collection. There are about 25 automobiles dating from the early 1900’s up till the late 1940’s. Also in display are nickelodeons\, music boxes\, David Winter Cottages\, Dolls\, Coins\, and crystal figurines. \n  \n\n \nGrand Salon\n\nMarble columns\, crystal chandeliers\, painted ceilings all make up this beautiful Grand Salon Showroom of the 1910’s\, 20 and 30s. On display are approx. 30 of the finest automoblies of that era. Duesenbergs\, Cadillacs\, Isotta-Fraschini\, Delahaye\, Minvera\, Renault\, Maybach\, many other European and American built automoblies. \n  \n\n \nAutomobile Collectibles and Antiques\n\nOn the third floor is a large assortment of Radiator Hood Ornaments “Mascots”\, including Lalique Crystal Mascots and 18th & 19th Century French Furniture \n  \n \nInstruments\n\nThis area displays a world-class collection of automated mechanical instruments including musical repeat striking watches\, Swiss bird boxes\, cylinder and disc music boxes\, and grand pianos. The tour culminates with demonstrations of select orchestrations and the 5\,000-piped Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ. \n\nHours\nThursday – Saturday: 9:00am – 4:30pm \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nnethercuttcollection.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

The grunion has been known to many Southern Californians for more than 100 years\, but there are still those who are skeptical of its existence. To be invited out in the middle of the night to go and watch fish does sound a little ridiculous\, but in reality\, this is the only way to observe this natural phenomenon. \nCalifornia grunions are small\, silvery fish found only along the coast of Southern California and northern Baja California. Most people would be unaware of their existence were it not for the unique spawning behavior of these fish. Unlike other fish\, grunion comes completely out of the water to lay their eggs in the wet sand of the beach. As if this behavior were not strange enough\, grunion make these excursions only on particular nights\, and with such regularity that the time of their arrival on the beach can be predicted a year in advance. This phenomenon can be seen on many beaches in Southern California. Shortly after high tide\, on certain nights\, sections of these beaches are sometimes covered with thousands of grunion depositing their eggs in the sand. \nGrunion watching has become a popular sport in Southern California. Since these fish leave the water to deposit their eggs\, they may be observed on shore while they are briefly stranded. \n \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.californiabeaches.com/grunion-run-schedule/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Home Cooking Comedy Show
DESCRIPTION:EVERY WEDNESDAY – Pasadena\nHome Cookin Comedy is a stand-up comedy show hosted by Leonard Smith Jr. Come see some of LA’s best up-and-coming stand-ups every Wednesday at Barneys Beanery! \n \nLeonard Smith Jr is a stand-up comedian\, actor\, and improviser based in Los Angeles.\n\nHe surprised those who knew him when he left Atlanta in 2016 to head west. They knew his love for lemon pepper wings and 24-hour access to ass shaking was unmeasurable. If he was gonna leave that\, he meant business\, and he did. He’s since performed sketch\, improv\, and stand-up all over the country. A former UCB program graduate and house team member. He is the creator of the improv group “Lemon Pepper Wet” which has been invited to the Atlanta Improv Festival\, SF Sketchfest\, and the World Comedy Expo Festival in Chicago. He produces and hosts a weekly show called Home Cookin Comedy every Wednesday at Barney’s Beanery Pasadena. You can see Lemon Pepper Wet every third Monday at Holy Shit Improv. You can find his podcast Film Vs Film on all podcast platforms. \n\n \nBarney’s Beanery\, 99 East Colorado Boulevard\, Pasadena\, CA 91105 \nBarney’s Beanery is a full-service bar/restaurant with a history in LA going back almost 100 years.  We’ve grown over the years\, from a small chili cafe in West Hollywood to a multi-unit staple of the Los Angeles restaurant scene.  We serve breakfast\, lunch\, and dinner from morning to midnight and offer a full bar with over 40 beers on draft.  The scene at Barney’s is casual and raucous\, a rockin’ fun restaurant for groups small and large. \nBarney’s is also a fantastic place to watch your favorite sporting event\, play pub-style trivia with friends\, or sing some karaoke late-nights.  No reservations necessary\, come see us in Santa Monica\, Pasadena\, Burbank\, Westwood Village\, Redondo Beach\, and of course\, our original location in West Hollywood. \nBarney’s Beanery opened in West Hollywood in 1920 and very quickly established itself as a fixture in Los Angeles with a history and a following that is unmatched.  The last decade has brought on new locations to serve all our great customers\, while still keeping stride with the rich history and people that got us here.  Take a moment and read the article below to learn a little more about Barney’s Beanery. \n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.instagram.com/homecookincomedy\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:MOTHERLAND: Free Stand Up Comedy
DESCRIPTION:EVERY WEDNESDAY – Los Angeles\nEvery Wednesday night\, Motherland offers a sublime evening of stand-up comedy featuring some of the best comedians in Los Angeles and across the country! Located at Kusina Filipina in Eagle Rock\, Motherland is 100% free and regularly features comics from NBC\, Comedy Central\, HBO\, MTV\, FOX\, and everywhere. \nMotherland starts at 9:00 pm\, and doors open at 8:30. Seating is first come first serve and food service is available during the show + beer & wine. College students with valid student IDs get 10% Off food. \nDon’t resist the call of the Motherland and enjoy a night full of laughter\, delicious food\, and frosty beverages! \n\n \n4157 Eagle Rock Boulevard\, Los Angeles\, CA 90065 \n\n\n\n\n\n \nExperience dining like you are back home! We serve you your favorite Filipino dishes along with a great dining experience.\nWe have been part of the Eagle Rock community since 2013. Visit us soon. \nFilipino food has been championed as “the next big thing” for years now by chefs\, authors\, and TV hosts — which\, dirty little secret\, just means that it’s the next cuisine to get elevated and sold at a high price. Declaring a culture’s food as the haute new ticket\, as a lot of Filipino chefs will tell you\, is usually hasty and reductive. While it’s undeniable to ignore the trendy appeal of dishes like pork sisig and oxtail kare kare\, it’s also interesting that Filipino food exists in this curious grey area where it’s being elevated before most people have even grasped the traditional concepts and flavors. \n\n\n \n\nHours\nMonday – Saturday: 10:00 am – 8:30 pm\nSunday: 10:00am – 8:00pm\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.eventbrite.com/e/motherland-free-stand-up-comedy\n \n  \nFind more
