Straight from California family farms to your table. Bon appetit! \nBegun in 1977\, the Certified Farmers Market (CFM) program exempted farmers from prior packing\, sizing and labeling requirements. According to the California Department of Food & Agriculture\, this has a number of benefits to consumers and the agricultural community: CFMs — \n\n\nBring fresh\, high quality goods from producers and create a diverse market. \n\n\n Give consumers opportunities to meet the farmer and learn how their food supply is produced. \n\n\n Provide a great opportunity for small farmers to market their products without the added expenses of commercial preparation. This increases their net income and makes it possible for them to stay in business. \n\n\n Offer a flexible marketing alternative without disrupting other produce marketing systems. \n\n\nThere are approximately 800 Certified Farmers Markets in California and approximately 2\,500 certified producers. Of these markets\, 50% are year-round markets. The balance are seasonal\, generally operating from April through October. \n\nHours\n4th Sunday of the Month: 10:00am – 2:00pm\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.marvistafarmersmarket.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Venice Oceanarium
DESCRIPTION:SUNDAYS- Venice Beach Pier\nVenice Oceanarium EVERY SUNDAY\, 11am – 2pm. @ Venice Pier. A Museum without Walls teaches kids about Marine Biology & the Santa Monica Bay!  \nOur oceanographic display includes rare specimens\, shark jaws\, and historical artifacts. Be a Citizen Scientist and help us gather ocean data from our water testing kits. Observe grains of sand and seawater samples under our microscopes. Read ocean-inspired poetry\, draw\, and learn about the sea life just beneath the pier. We have new enlightening programs every week. \nThe pier juts 1000 feet out over the open sea\, with saltwater breezes and spectacular coastline views! Besides our marine specimens\, you’ll see migratory birds perched on the pilings\, dolphins\, interesting catches reeled in\, and local surfer species. \n \nThe Venice Oceanarium is a non-profit based in Venice Beach\, California. Just steps away from the world-famous Venice Boardwalk\, there are ecosystems teeming with wildlife waiting to be explored. Since 1995\, countless people have enjoyed our outdoor classrooms through hands-on learning. \nOUR MISSION is to ignite a passion for the abundance\, diversity\, and significance of the web of life in our ocean and its shores. The Venice Oceanarium emphasizes the powerful and enduring emotional and aesthetic influences of the oceans on human culture. \nOUR VISION is to build a permanent exhibit on the Venice Pier that educates and inspires visitors about the unique and wondrous life forms in our local ocean. \n\nAbout Venice Oceanarium\nBack in 1995 our founder\, Tim Rudnick\, organized a weekend-long marathon reading of Moby-Dick at the Venice Beach breakwater. Reliving life aboard a whaling ship and Melville’s soul-searching journey while the group huddled for warmth on the sand was a transformative experience. Tim realized the importance of learning outside of the traditional classroom and founded the Venice Oceanarium\, a Museum Without Walls. \n \nThis concept of blending the arts and sciences is the core of our programming. We believe that our integrative curriculum inspires kids of all ages to be stewards of our precious oceans. \nOver the years we’ve expanded our outreach to include our highly anticipated annual grunion party\, weekly Marine Biology pop-up labs at the end of the Venice Pier\, classes at local schools and youth centers\, tidepool talks\, wetland walks\, and other excursions. \nVenice Beach: An Urban Coastal Park\n \nVenice Beach is a wonderful juxtaposition of urban life and natural wonder. Just steps from the world-famous Venice Beach Boardwalk’s street artists and performers are miles of beautiful shoreline to explore. Wide sandy beaches\, crashing waves\, shells\, seaweed\, birds\, and other wildlife coexist with surfers\, sunbathers\, and sandcastles. \nThe tidepools at the Venice Beach Breakwater are teeming with wildlife (to be enjoyed with your eyes only) as the iconic and colorful Venice graffiti walls loom in the background. There’s a secret reef\, and beautiful wetlands\, and on a clear day\, you can see Malibu and Catalina Island. \nMillions of locals and visitors enjoy our beaches. Few stop to really appreciate the rare treasures it has to offer. Our mission is to excite\, engage and inspire kids of all ages to appreciate our unique urban coast. \nExperiential Learning\n \nThe Venice Oceanarium is a Museum Without Walls. Our programs combine science with the arts to encourage kids (of all ages) to appreciate the environment and therefore become stewards of our oceans. We believe that this integrative curriculum of poetry\, literature\, music\, drawing\, and performance arts teaches by experiencing the world around us on a more profound level than books and classrooms alone provide. \nWe design our events and activities to raise awareness of the natural wonders of Venice Beach. Join us on our learning expedition! \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.veniceoceanarium.org/programs\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Hammer Museum Free Screening: Cutting Horse
DESCRIPTION:TONIGHT- The Hammer Museum\nThe Hammer Museum and the UCLA Film & Television Archive present a free screening of \n\nCutting Horse\nSUN AUG 28\, 7 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPart of the UCLA Film & Television Archive series about filmmaker Larry Clark. \nRegister at cinema.ucla.edu to attend this in-theater screening. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nCUTTING HORSE\n\nU.S.\, 2002 \nAn epic clash between rival ranches run by rival families locked in a generational struggle over Western lands\, Cutting Horse evokes\, for all its independent production credentials\, A-list roadshow Westerns pictures of the 1950s. If that seems like a surprising lineage from the director of Passing Through and As Above\, So Below\, Larry Clark operates here in full revisionist mode\, framing his story through the reminiscence of a Mexican American landowner and the allyship he finds in a stoic Black horse trainer\, haunted by his past\, who returns home seeking redemption. In that\, Tyler (Albert Harris) stands in a direct line of descent from Clark’s earlier alienated seekers Eddie Warmack (Passing Through) and Jita-hadi (As Above\, So Below) in his struggle to make a place for himself and his community in the face of ruthless\, racist opposition. \n35mm\, color\, 124 min. Director: Larry Clark. Screenwriter: David Heintz\, Larry Clark. With: Albert Harris\, Cesar E. Flores\, Robert Earl Crudup. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nATTENDING THIS PROGRAM?\nTicketing: Admission to Archive screenings at the Hammer is free. Registration is required via the Film & Television Archive website\, and tickets must be picked up at the box office. Hammer members receive priority ticketing until 15 minutes before showtime. Please review the Archive’s ticketing policy and COVID-19 admission policy. Questions should be directed to the Archive at programming@cinema.ucla.edu or 310-206-8013.\nParking: Parking is available under the museum. Rates are $7 for the first three hours with museum validation\, and $3 for each additional 20 minutes\, with a $20 daily maximum. There is a $7 flat rate after 6 p.m. on weekdays\, and all day on weekends. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n10899 Wilshire Blvd\, Los Angeles\, CA 90024\n\n\nThe Billy Wilder Theater\, home of UCLA Film & Television Archive’s public programs\, is among a handful of venues nationwide able to exhibit an entire century’s worth of moving images in their original formats. From the earliest silent films requiring variable speed projection all the way up to cutting-edge digital cinema\, the Wilder can accommodate an array of screen technologies. \n \nThe theater’s modern design by Michael Maltzan Architecture stylishly interprets cinema’s play of light and movement in real space\, and the 285-seat interior features comfortable leather seats with superb sightlines. The theater is made possible by a generous gift from Audrey L. Wilder and named in honor of Mrs. Wilder’s late husband\, the legendary screenwriter\, director and producer. Born on the outskirts of the Austro-Hungarian empire\, Billy Wilder fled Nazi Germany in the 1930s to become a master of Hollywood film language and a shrewd comic observer of the American scene. Among the many classics Wilder co-wrote and directed were Double Indemnity (1944)\, Sunset Boulevard (1950) and Some Like It Hot (1959). \n\nPlease note that food is not permitted inside the theater. There are dining options in the surrounding Westwood Village. You may also opt to bring your own food and eat in the courtyard just outside the theater. \n \n\nThe Hammer Museum champions the art and artists who challenge us to see the world in a new light\, to experience the unexpected\, to ignite our imaginations\, and inspire change. \nThe Hammer understands that art not only has the power to transport us through aesthetic experience but can also provide significant insight into some of the most pressing cultural\, political\, and social questions of our time. We share the unique and invaluable perspectives that artists have on the world around us. \nA vibrant intellectual and creative nexus\, the Hammer is fueled by dynamic exhibitions and programs—including lectures\, symposia\, film series\, readings\, and musical performances—that spark meaningful encounters with art and ideas. \nAnd through our unwavering commitment to free admission and free public programs\, the Hammer Museum is open for all and FREE FOR GOOD.\n  \nHours\nMonday: Closed\nTuesday – Sunday: 11:00am – 6:00pm \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.cinema.ucla.edu/calendar\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Good Times at Davey Wayne's
DESCRIPTION:EVERY SUNDAY – Hollywood\nGood Times at Davey Wayne’s in Hollywood presents Strange Hotels\, every Sunday night.  Featuring 70’s DJ sets\, an energetic and charismatic host\, and a live performance by Strange Hotels\, it’s a whole ass vibe. \n  \n \nStrange Hotels- Indie- Electro Rock Duo\nOpening to a buzzing crowd of all ages\, cultures\, and persuasions–in an eclectic industrial atmosphere complete with burlesque dancers\, smoke machines\, and incense – the barefoot duo delivered an energetic set of life and synthesized dance sound and know-how-to to keep their audience engaged. Their continuous energetic\, driven show resulted in a bumper-to-bumper dance floor as they performed to a packed house of diverse\, die-hard hipster fans. \n \n\nAfter touring for years as a part of Portland’s iconic touring band The Lower 48\, cousins Ben Braden and Nick Sadler formed their indie-electro duo Strange Hotels in early 2018\, and within weeks of forming the duo\, they had the opportunity to open for Billie Eilish and Finneas at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland. Their songs have also been featured in several TV shows including Shameless\, Viceʼs King Of The Road\, and Conan O’Brien’s Needs a Friend.  They have described Strange Hotels as the most collaborative project they have been a part of and are a sonic blend of dance\, R&B\, vintage pop\, and indie rock.  They have taken a very DIY approach to record their songs\, recording and producing their music solely on iPads.  This allowed them to record in Airbnb’s and apartment studios on the road and\, as a result\, they released their debut and well-received EP Mixtape in January of 2018. They moved to Los Angles in 2019 and booked a residency at their favorite club\, booked other gigs\, and wrote a new batch of songs\, releasing their second EP\, Mixtape II\, at the end of 2019.  Going through some hard times during the pandemic and shutdowns in the music industry\, with things having opened back up\, they have been staying busy!   They recently released their latest single “Teen Dream Fantasy”\, a dreamy hit that strikes a chord of nostalgia with uplifting and energetic production\, captivating synth work\, and a stellar groove\, produced by The Strokes’ producer Gordon Raphael. \n\n \n1611 North El Centro Avenue\, Los Angeles\, CA 90028 \n \nDavid Wayne Houston\, father to Mark and Jonnie Houston\, was a blue-collar pool shark who enjoyed late nights in his garage building and fixing things–some of the brothers’ best memories. SUMMARY:The Broad Museum
DESCRIPTION:FREE TUE – SUN- Bunker Hill\, DTLA\n\n\n\n\nThe Broad museum presents an in-depth installation of Roy Lichtenstein\, opening May 26\, 2021\, features 22 artworks\, with nearly half on view for the first time\, including Purist Still Life (1975)\, Female Figure (1979)\, Two Paintings: Radiator and Folded Sheets (1984)\, and Nude with Pyramid (1994). \nAn outcome of sustained and ongoing engagement with artists and artwork\, the Broad collection is distinctive in its exceptional dedication to the full arc of artists’ careers. The Broad has highlighted this depth through expansive presentations in the third floor galleries\, featuring Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Roy Lichtenstein\, Kara Walker\, Andy Warhol\, and Christopher Wool\, along with works by many others. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom the curators\n\n\n\nRead extended content on Lichtenstein’s works in our mobile museum guide: mobile.thebroad.org/artistguides \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHighlighted Artwork\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPurist Still Life\n\nRoy Lichtenstein\n\n\n1975\n\n\noil and Magna on canvas\n\n\n70 x 80 in. Grand Avenue\, Los Angeles\, CA 90012\nThe Broad makes its collection of contemporary art from the 1950s to the present accessible to the widest possible audience by presenting exhibitions and operating a lending program to art museums and galleries worldwide. \nBy actively building a dynamic collection that features in-depth representations of influential contemporary artists and by advancing education and engagement through exhibitions and diverse public programming\, the museum enriches\, provokes\, inspires\, and fosters appreciation of art of our time. \n \nThe Broad was founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler\, the museum offers free general admission and presents an active program of rotating temporary exhibitions and innovative audience engagement. The Broad is home to 2\,000 works of art in the Broad collection\, which is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. \n  \n \nThe Broad from Home\nThe Broad is committed to inspiring and fostering an appreciation of contemporary art through our digital initiatives. Experience #TheBroadFromHome to find inspiration through music\, poetry\, performance\, workshops\, and conversations centered around the Broad collection. \nOverview \nPerformances \nTalks & Conversations \nArtist Spotlight \nFamily Art Workshops \nMore Online Programs \n  \nThe Broad Collection\nEli and Edythe Broad have been building their collection of postwar and contemporary art over the last 50 years. With a belief that the greatest art collections are built when the art is being made\, the Broads took to collecting art of their own time. \nThe Broad is home to 2\,000 works in the Broad collection by more than 200 artists\, and is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. The collection features in-depth holdings of influential contemporary artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Mark Bradford\, Jasper Johns\, Jeff Koons\, Barbara Kruger\, Yayoi Kusama\, Kerry James Marshall\, Julie Mehretu\, Takashi Murakami\, Robert Rauschenberg\, Ed Ruscha\, Cindy Sherman\, Cy Twombly\, Andy Warhol\, and more\, plus an ever-growing representation of younger artists. \n  \nView Our Collection Here\n \nIn Under the Table\, 1994\, the viewer is both in the world of imaginary giants and in the world of remembered childhood. Fusing Alice in Wonderland with the Duchampian tradition of the readymade\, Artist Robert Therrien constructs a doppelganger from an everyday object\, both displaying his visual wit and actualizing literary or imaginative fantasy in three-dimensional space. The table exudes an extraordinary aura\, compelling one to walk underneath the table and conjuring the physical memory of being under the table of one’s childhood home. Complicated and powerful\, the work offers fresh ideas of what a table\, sculpture\, and memory can mean. \n  \n  \n \nUsing the recognizable form of a balloon twisted into the shape of a dog\, Koons has frozen a moment in time\, exaggerating both scale and material. \nBalloon Dog (Blue) is literal and abstract. When standing close to it\, one’s own distorted reflection bends around smooth pert curves. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission is Free\nAll visitors must reserve timed tickets in advance. No\, it’s not just an urban legend. This is where it all began: donation-based yoga in the park\, year-round\, since 2000. \nCatch Daniel on\nMONDAY / WEDNESDAY / FRIDAY\n10:30am – 11:30am\nRunyon Canyon\n2000 N. Fuller Ave.\, Hollywood\, CA 90046\nSuggested donation: $5 or more\nBring a mat or a towel and meet in the fenced-in children’s play area just inside the main entrance (weather permitting). Everyone is welcome. \n  \n\n \nRunyon Canyon Yoga- 2000 N. Fuller Ave.\, Hollywood\, CA 90046 \n  \nIn 1634\, Daniel Overberger’s forebears came to America on the Dove as escaped counterfeiters. Here\, they mated with members of the Yaocomico tribe of Maryland. Centuries later\, it is this union of fugitive and shaman blood that runs through Daniel’s veins\, injecting a much needed outlaw spirit into western yoga. \n \nHaving earned his teaching certification through his studies and apprenticeship with ashtanga vinyasa masters in Mysore\, India\, Daniel has been bringing donation-based vinyasa yoga to the people since 2005. The host of the Daniel Overberger – What Now? podcast\, author of Leaving Stress Behind and founder of alt-kirtan group Dharma Gypsys\, Daniel has been featured on KTLA News\, in Tarzan Magazine (Japan) and in LA Yoga Magazine\, to which he has been a regular contributor. \n \nDaniel has two teaching certificates from his studies in Mysore\, India and teaches Vinyasa yoga with roots in Ashtanga. His teaching is laced with a sense of humor and a down-to-earth attitude that makes yoga accessible to anyone willing to show up for the gig. \n“You’re living your dream… don’t miss it.”\n  \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.danieloverberger.com/runyon-canyon-yoga\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

It was known as the Shed from 1968-1972\, The Outcast from 1972-1983\, the famous Gauntlet II from 1983-2005\, then later\, Eagle LA. \n \nGauntlet II was in operation for 21 years. Then\, in the summer of 2005 Charlie and business partner Vince decided to buy the bar with the intention of making a name change. In April 2006\, Eagle LA was born\, or\, reborn as it may be. There was an original Eagle LA located in West Hollywood at the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Fairfax. It operated for 15 years and closed in 1995. Although that Eagle is of no relation to Charlie or Vince\, they are proud to reestablish the Eagle LA and become the latest in a long line of Eagle bars in cities throughout the US and around the world. It has always been their mission to uphold the Leather/Uniform/Fetish traditions set forth by the infamous Eagle name and that traditions still holds true today. \n \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://eaglela.com/home/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
