Featuring stories and songs. It’s FREE! No registration is required. Meets in Children’s Library Theater. \nStorytime consists of learning rhymes and songs\, reading age-appropriate books\, and spending quality time with your children. Research has found that children learn to read best when the five practices of playing\, talking\, singing\, writing\, and reading are nurtured. There are many ways parents can begin helping their children learn even as babies. This cozy spot offers complimentary hot dogs during “Monday Night Trivia” from 8pm to 10pm. Established in 2007\, the decorum was designed to resemble that of a stateroom aboard an old ocean liner. Cherry-stained hardwood covers the bar\, wall to wall\, in handmade wood craftsmanship giving the 90 West Lounge a truly unique feel. Our gorgeous bar is somewhat of a hidden treasure in the back of the Marina Plaza\, adjacent to Ronnie’s Diner. Today\, under new ownership as of May 2011\, it is now an upscale dive bar with a feeling of Cheers where “everyone knows your name.” \nOur comfy little bar has a full liquor license\, 5 beers on tap\, over 25 bottles beers\, great staff\, gorgeous pool table\, outdoor seating and 7 TV’S! 90 West Lounge is one of those “Cheers”-style dives that’s just friendly\, fun and wonderfully low-key—and yes\, they’re big-time sports-friendly (and dog-friendly!). They have a first-class selection selection of beer\, really good cocktails (big cocktails!)\, and of course—seven TVs for your football-viewing pleasure. If you like BBQ\, you’ll want to hit this place up for their NFL Sunday event where you can dive into some fine barbecue for just a small donation. \nOur specialty is being friendly. Walk in a stranger and I can almost guarantee you leave as a friend (if you aren’t thefake Hollywood type). We are the “around the corner” neighborhood kind of bar. Our bartenders remember your name and what you drink. Cocktails or a cold beer can be enjoyed on our patio\, overlooking a gorgeous sunset daily. The cocktail cave will quench your thirst with classic Mexican cocktails — Palomas\, Margaritas\, and the like — and beloved agave spirits — of which there are many — and your sate your hunger with small Mexican bites brought in from local vendors\, which vary depending on the night. \n  \n \nThe bar showcases an impressive selection of tequilas and mescals while also featuring the same type of distinctive concoctions and spirits that the 1933 Group team has become known for around the city. \nThe theme here is Día de Los Muertos\, where skulls\, skeletons and upside-down bats unapologetically grace mezcal and tequila-lined shelves. The slightly kitschy\, multi-room space feels like a dark and moody movie set—a haze of streetlights permeate the stained-glass windows\, while dim amber bulbs emanate from wrought iron chandeliers. After a couple potent mezcal margaritas\, you’ll begin to wonder if a hidden back door leads to an Aztec temple for a Tarantino-style beheading. \n\n\n\n  \n \n\n\n\nVitals \nGood for: Mexican-themed outings. The happy hour (daily 5-9pm) is fantastic\, when cocktails such as smoky margaritas and palomas are $5 and beers are $3. \nThe scene: Beyond the bouncer\, smokers congregate in a narrow outdoor patio and locals young and new\, in various forms of dishevelment\, soak up daily drink specials and weekly taco nights. \nThe playlist: Perhaps an odd playlist for a Mexican-themed bar\, classic Americana rock (i.e. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band\, Billy Joel) lends a throwback atmosphere. Local DJs take to the turn tables with punk and new wave beats\, as tattooed youngsters take to the dance floor. \nThe bartender says: Gone are the days when bikers and gangsters would frequent this watering hole. Curated by local DJ\, music mastermind\, and event producer\, Aaron Byrd\, this series will include a free coffee for all attendees and a selection of bites by Convene! \n  \nABOUT THE CURATOR: \nAaron Byrd has always had a desire and curiosity to seek out new experiences\, people\, places and\, most of all\, music. Having visited 17 countries (so far) and spending at least three hours a day listening to new music\, it’s safe to say music and travel are his biggest passions in life. \nHis attraction to the unknown and thirst for discovery has fueled an eclectic and expansive taste in music\, from the underground hip hop scene the LA native explored as a teenager to his love of Guaguanco from Cuba. An Engineering major at UCLA\, it’s not surprising that he likes to dig into the roots of where things begin\, from tango to trip hop. He fuses musical connections across all borders\, boundaries and timelines because what he looks for is more than a catchy beat. \nSince his start at KCRW in 2007\, Byrd has appeared on the front page of the New York Times and in both the LA Times and LA Weekly. He is called on to curate a wide range of events around town\, from post-performance events at the LA Opera to a weekly live performance series at a boutique West Hollywood hotel. While beach yoga may make you feel like you’re on vacation\, it has plenty of health benefits too. \n\n\n\n\n\nExercising outside can greatly enhance your creative mind.\nAll exercise in general is a creativity enhancer. The parts of your brain that become activated during exercise can help to enhance creativity. There is an area of the brain called the hippocampus\, your cells can regenerate faster if you exercise for at least 30 minutes per day. When you take your exercise outside\, it can help to enhance your creativity even further. Beach yoga can actually help you become more creative the more you participate in this activity. \n \nIt’s important to commune with nature. We humans forget about this sometimes. Yet sometimes we need to get back into nature. The sand in your feet and the fresh air on your skin can all help your body in different ways. \nBreathing in the sea air has many health benefits that are only enhanced with beach yoga.\nYour body can actually absorb oxygen easier thanks to the negative ions that are present in the ocean air. These negative ions can also help naturally boost your serotonin\, which can help you feel more relaxed and happier during your yoga session. As an added bonus\, salt also has antibacterial properties. This mean that you’ll be able to recover faster from any infections or bacteria that you may have picked up throughout the week. \n\n\n\n\n\nWhen you do your yoga on the beach\, you need to find a way to remain in downward dog without losing your focus to bugs\, birds and any other disturbances that you might encounter.
