It’s been around for over 80 years making it the oldest bar in Culver City. The Backstage has always been a hangout for studio folks and locals\, but now it’s also a favorite destination for parties and celebrations. It’s an old school place…dim lighting\, cheap drinks\, classic photo booth\, cozy firepit and friendly staff. The backstage is open 365 days a year from 11 am – 2 am (10 am open on game days).   Large parties are welcome and reservations are free. Never a cover or minimum or hidden extras. Karaoke is great here\, even if you’re not a fan. \n \nThe kitchen cranks out classic bar food that’s been called the best bar food in Los Angeles 7 days a week until midnight. The food is handmade and it’s one of the few bar kitchens known without a microwave or freezer. The menu is American bar food\, done right. The kitchen is open until midnight every night. \n \nThe bar offers solid pours and fair prices. Last call is at 1:30am every night. Drink prices haven’t changed for the last 20 years and are the lowest in town. Party reservations are free and there’s never a cover or minimum. The Backstage is the proud home of the Seattle Seahawks in Southern California. \nHappy Hour is 7 days a week from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. There’s free parking on Culver Blvd. after 6:00pm. DESCRIPTION:SANTA ROSA Ave- Altadena\n\n\n\n\n\nChristmas Tree Lane in Altadena\, is a grand\, mile-long driveway of cedars becomes blanketed in lights each holiday as it transforms into Christmas Tree Lane. \nTake a majestic cruise down the hill after it lights up December 11th – January 7th (the 2nd Sat of Dec – 1st Fri of Jan).  Just a heads up: While you may feel inclined to drive through with your headlights off\, that’s full-blown illegal. \nSanta Rosa Ave\, between Woodbury Ave and Altadena Dr (Altadena) \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlanting the Lane\n \nDeodars were introduced in 1883 to Southern California by Altadena founder John P. Woodbury who first saw a stand of the deodars in Italy. \nProclaiming them the most beautiful trees he had ever seen\, he returned with seeds\, and getting assurance from a friend of his at the Department of Agriculture that the trees would do well in California\, had his brother Frederick nurse them at the Altadena ranch. \n\n  \n\n \nIn two years they were transplanted to Santa Rosa Avenue\, which would become a driveway from Pasadena up the near mile stretch to Woodbury’s planned estate. The mansion was never realized\, but the deodar legacy was left and it flourished for over a century to follow. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nChristmas Tree Lane’s First Lighting\nIn 1920 Altadena resident and Pasadena businessman Frederick C. Nash came up with an idea of lighting the trees for the holidays. He sought assistance from his organization The Pasadena Kiwanis Club and from the City of Pasadena to initially light a 1/4 mile section of the roadway. Over the next few years the lighting expanded until the entire row of trees\, 150 in all\, were lighted. The boulevard at that time was referred to as the Avenue of the Deodars. Though many pedestrians would walk along the lighted street\, it was really a spectacle to behold from the seats of slowly passing automobiles. \n  \nThe Lane had its share of postcards which were published internationally\, but after the war many of the cards came up with the caption\, “Christmas Tree Lane.” It is supposed that is where the street actually took its present-day name. \n\n\n\n\nChristmas Tree Lane in Altadena (Santa Rosa Avenue\, between Woodbury Avenue and Altadena Drive) is the oldest large-scale Christmas lighting spectacle in the United States. \nEvery Christmas season for more than 80 years\, the majestic deodars on the “Mile of Christmas Trees” are strung with 10\,000 lights. \nAll this hard work culminates on the second Saturday in December\, when the festive lighting ceremony brings out thousands of revelers from all around the area\, as well as local choirs\, marching bands\, solo performers\, and of course – Santa Claus! \n\n\n\n\n\nHours\nEVERY DAY: Sunset- 12am \nDecember 11 – Jan 5\, 2022 \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nchristmastreelane.net\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

Borrow for 3 weeks\, with the option to renew\, if available. \nPlease note: Laptop & Hotspot Loan Kits require a full access card to check out. When can I pick up my Laptop & Hotspot?\nCall the owning library and arrange to pick up your kit during Sidewalk Service hours.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n4. How long can I keep the Laptop & Hotspot Loan? Can I renew?\nThe kits can be borrowed for 3 weeks. If no other customers are on the waiting list\, the checkout can be renewed up to 3 times. The renewal needs to be made before your checkout period ends.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n5. How do I return the Chromebook Kit?\nChromebooks must be returned in person to the owning library during Sidewalk Service hours. They cannot be returned in the bookdrop. They cannot be returned to any library other than the one where the kit was checked out. Please call the owning library to arrange a drop-off time and call again once at the library to alert staff. Staff will bring out a box labeled Laptop Return to the Sidewalk Service table. You’ll be instructed to remove all items – the Chromebook\, the wireless hotspot\, and both charging cables – from the carrying case. Put the case into the box first\, on the bottom\, and then put all other items in on top. Staff will check the box to make sure all items are inside and that they look fine. All items will be quarantined for 4 days and confirmed to be working properly before being checked in. Staff will contact you if there are any questions or concerns. Please remember that the loan will still show on your account until the quarantine and check-in process is complete.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n6. Are there late fees?\nLate fees will be assessed the same as all other library materials. The Chromebook will become disabled once the loan period has ended.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n7. Contact 310 376-9833 \n\n \n30 Pier Avenue\, Hermosa Beach\, CA 90254 \n \nA restaurant called “Verpilate’s” was built a short walk from the ocean at 30 Pier Avenue in 1934\, and it was converted into “The Lighthouse”\, a bar\, in 1940 (“Café” was added to the official name only when the business was sold in 1981). The club first began showcasing jazz music on May 29\, 1949\, when owner John Levine permitted bassist/band leader Howard Rumsey to start a recurring Sunday jam session on a trial basis. The experiment was a success. Rumsey became club manager soon after and put together a house band called the Lighthouse All-Stars. \nWhile the club also hosted visiting groups\, the Lighthouse All-Stars became a noted ensemble in its own right\, which had among its guest musicians Chet Baker\, Gerry Mulligan\, and Miles Davis. The longest-running members of the Lighthouse All-Stars were Bob Cooper (tenor saxophone)\, Conte Candoli (trumpet)\, and Stan Levey (drums). \n \nWest Coast jazz stalwarts Shorty Rogers\, Richie Kamuca\, Bill Holman\, Bud Shank\, Shelly Manne\, and Jimmy Giuffre were also regulars in the early days. Max Roach was the regular drummer for a while in 1953. The club also became an important venue for recordings; Art Pepper\, Lee Morgan\, Cannonball Adderley\, Mose Allison\, Ramsey Lewis\, Art Blakey\, Charles Earland\, Grant Green\, Elvin Jones\, Cal Tjader\, the Modern Jazz Quartet\, The Three Sounds\, the Jazz Crusaders\, and Joe Henderson all made recordings there. \n \n“The Lighthouse” sponsored an inter-collegiate jazz festival in the late-1950s\, and the competition’s winners included Mike Melvoin and Les McCann. \nJohn Levine died in 1970 and Rumsey left “The Lighthouse” in 1971 to open the “Concerts By The Sea” jazz club in nearby Redondo Beach. SUMMARY:Abalone Cove: Tide Pool Heaven
DESCRIPTION:TRAILS & TIDE POOLING in Palos Verdes\nAbalone Cove Shoreline Park is a coastal tide pool treasure\, located at the tip of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The park contains an ecological preserve and is famous for its outstanding tide pools. \nIt is worth checking tide charts to visit these beaches at low tide for the tide pools and the tunnels. \nDAILY TIDE CHARTS HERE\n  \n \nOut at the end and right at the base of the points there are amazing rock tunnels where waves rush in and crash through. \n  \nTrails meander on the bluff out to excellent views from two prominent points. Below these points are three separate coves with beaches and tide pools. \nAbalone Cove Park features 2 beaches (Abalone Cove and Sacred Cove)\, tide pools\, bluff top viewing areas and trails crisscrossing the area. The park contains a State Ecological Preserve and taking of protected animals and marine life is prohibited. There is direct access to a parking lot off Palos Verdes Drive South. Access to Abalone Cove Beach is by a long trail from the parking lot. To access Sacred Cove\, users must walk along Palos Verdes Drive South to 1 of 2 trails between Portuguese and Inspiration Points. Lifeguards are on duty at Abalone Cove Beach during summer hours and weekends only. The views of the ocean and Catalina Island are spectacular. Barbeques and fires are prohibited at this site. DESCRIPTION:OPEN DAILY- Manhattan Beach Pier\nThe Roundhouse Aquarium is located at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier. The Roundhouse has undergone a recent revitalization through a $4 million capital project spearheaded by the Harrison Greenberg Foundation. The new Roundhouse Aquarium educates and inspires more than 300\,000 visitors every year. It is managed and operated by the nonprofit oceanic and environmental organization Oceanographic Teaching Stations\, Inc. (OTS)\, whose mission is to connect and engage visitors and students to the oceans through hands-on interactive experiences with marine life and habitats of southern California\, and to inspire them to become good stewards of our environment. \nOTS’ programs at the Roundhouse Aquarium promote the study of the oceans\, tidelands and beaches of Southern California through a wide slate of science-based and standards-aligned education programs with its immersive and engaging exhibits of a diverse array of marine life.  More than 100 marine animals from Southern California’s waters live at the aquarium\, many are native to its local waters in the Santa Monica Bay. Notable wildlife include moon jellies\, sharks\, octopus\, sheepshead\, moray eels\, lobsters\, and more – as well as a touch tank with sea stars\, sea cucumbers\, sea urchins and sea snails. The aquarium prides itself on being family oriented. It’s a great place for kids to take their parents! \n\n\n\n\n\nCome SEA our Marine Exhibits\nGet to know the habitats within Southern California by visiting our diverse marine exhibits. These exhibits are showcased within 4 Aquarium Galleries. \n\n\nMarine Habitat Gallery\n\nRocky Reef Tank \nThe Rocky Reef shows us what reefs in the cold California waters look like. They are similar to coral reefs but are made up of rocks instead of corals. They are just as important of a habitat as coral reefs and often serve as a nursery for many types of juvenile fish. \nKelp Forest Tank \nThe Kelp Forest tank represents a distinct southern California marine habitat. This tank shows us what it looks like to swim at the edge of the kelp forest\, where rocks become scarcer and sand more plentiful. Many of the animals in the tank can live their life deep within the kelp forest or at the very edge. Those animals at the edges can even camouflage in the sand. \n\n\n\n\nEducation Gallery\n\nDeep Kelp Forest Tank\nThese tanks represent a very diverse and abundant habitat\, the kelp forest! The giant kelp that grows 2 feet a day\, provides food and shelter for many different animals. Not only is this habitat important for animals\, but it is also important to humans as well! Seaweeds\, like kelp\, produce about 70% of our oxygen through photosynthesis. So\, take a deep breath and thank kelp! \nTide Pool Tank\nAll the animals that you can find in our touch tank live in a habitat called a tide pool. When the tide is low and the water has receded\, pools of water are left in between rocks which form the tide pools. In Southern California\, we have 2 high tides and 2 low tides every day\, which means the animals’ habitat is always changing. They must have special adaptations that allow them to live in such a dynamic habitat. \nPier Piling Tank\nHave you ever wondered what is under the pier? This tank will give you a good idea! Pier pilings\, while man made\, do create a habitat for lots of animals ranging from mussels\, to crabs\, to fish and rays. The fish can either hide amongst the mussels or lay on the sand under the pier among the rays. \n\n\n\n \n\n\nMarine Science Gallery\n\nJewel Tank\nSee our animals in the spotlight with cool adaptive traits like our spotted rose anemone that has biofluorescence and our baby swell shark eggs that can camouflage as seaweed. The baby swell sharks are really cute when they hatch out too! \nPipefish Tank\nThe Pipefish tank is an example of a mudflat with eelgrass beds that act as a nursery for young fish and young sting rays. See if you can spot a pipefish in the eelgrass. \nArtificial Reef Tank\nThe Artificial Reef tank is an examples of man-made structures left behind that now act as reefs teaming with life from sea anemones on rock scallops to sea stars to juvenile rockfish. Can you see the bright orange Garibaldi with blue spots? \nOctopus Tank\nThe octopus tank is an example of a deep water habitat brought to life for our guests to see. It features anemones and rock scallops on the reef which also add structure and microhabitats to the reef. The decorator crab uses the colonial strawberry anemones to help decorate its body to camouflage with the reef. There are small but colorful rockfish like the half-banded rockfish that stay close to the rocks and use them as shelter. \nKid’s Kelp Corner\nHave you ever wondered oh why\, oh why did my goldfish die? Come find the answer in the Kid’s Kelp Corner. You can also relax and read the many ocean related books in our library while watching our inquisitive freshwater fish. \nDiscovery Center\nCome check out what it means to be a scientist! Observe plankton\, learn about the food chain\, and discover some of the aquarium’s smallest residents. \nSeahorse Tank\nSeahorses are some of the most fragile sea creatures in the ocean\, and they can camouflage to look like seaweed\, eelgrass\, or even sea fans. They use their tails to hold onto eelgrass and stay upright\, but they won’t swim except in short bursts. Meet some of the animals that live in the kelp forest—and divers that like to visit! Find out how choices you make daily can affect the kelp forest and the ocean in ways you may not even imagine. Also\, discover why and how we need to protect this important ecosystem for generations to come. This exhibit features live animals such as leopard sharks\, horn sharks\, moray eels\, giant sea bass\, rockfish\, spiny lobsters\, anemones and more!  \n  \n \nKelp Forest Science Spectacular Dive Shows\n\nFind out what it’s like to experience our kelp forest from inside the tank as you get the chance to talk first-hand with a diver!
