Text or call (661)9931612 for more information about reservations and private party booking. \n\n\nMeet the ladies \n\nCamila Perry\n\nMy first job was at Islands Restaurant in Encino\, when I was 16 years old. I started as a “floor host” which meant I bussed tables\, then moved up to food runner\, and finally\, server. I loved everything about it\, except taking out the trash. I was there for 5 years\, then The Cheesecake Factory for another 5 years\, where I learned how to tend bar. It was during that time that I graduated from CSUN with my BS in Business. After ten years in the service industry\, I was over it\, I quit! I vowed never to go back. I burned my white uniform and danced around its ashes. I got a “real job” and like so many others before me\, I couldn’t stand it. The hours\, the inflexibility…I found myself bartending again a few years later\, which eventually led me to tend at a little bar called Off Kilt\, which is the bar you now know as The Oaks Tavern. \nMy way into the bar-owning business was not typical. I was a bartender\, then I got offered a partnership if I could dig the bar out of its financial hole. That’s a big jump from bartender to owner. I didn’t realize what I was getting myself into. I cleaned the crap out of the place\, brought on new staff\, brought in craft beer\, upgraded the alcohol selection and got a popcorn machine. I tried new things like live bands\, game nights and karaoke. I made sure it didn’t smell like a “bar.” A lot of things didn’t work\, but a few did. The bar didn’t make money for a while. It was really tough\, I had a second job doing bottle service on the weekends and then I worked as many shifts at The Oaks as I could\, to save labor. It was literally a lot of blood\, sweat\, and tears\, the first few years. I almost gave up a few times. Luckily\, I had good friends who talked me out of it. Every time I threatened to run away\, they wouldn’t let me. Then little by little\, it started getting busy. I was able to quit my second job. I had to hire more staff. Three years ago I was able to stop bartending!  Flash forward another to 2019 and I was able to buy The Parlour Room with two of my bartenders and friends- Jenny and Teri\, who you will read about below.  It’s exciting and terrifying all at the same time. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJenny Prehiem\n\nI’m a California native\, born and raised in the Santa Clarita Valley. My dad believed in having a strong work ethic and taught me that I had to work hard for what I wanted. He was the kind of guy\, that when I called him because by car broke down on railroad tracks\, he’d say “well you better get out and push\, girl!” (Not kidding\, that really happened).  My first job was working at a paintball field on the weekends when I was only fifteen years old. I despised it\, but it taught me that working for your paycheck isn’t as easy or as glamorous as you think when you’re a kid. Things got better from there and at sixteen I landed my first restaurant job at BJ’s Brewery as a hostess.  I spent high school working my way up through hostess\, delivery driver and expeditor until I turned 18 and became a restaurant server. The BJ’s crew was like a family to me\, we did everything together. I worked for them for five years where I learned much about running a full service restaurant and bar from a corporate standpoint. That job supported me through college and  I was heartbroken when I had to leave my store when I moved to Thousand Oaks. Since then I have had multiple families at different restaurant and bars where I’ve worn many different hats; bartender\, event coordinator\, social media marketing and manager. I’ve done fine dining at fancy country clubs\, and served fishbowls at dive bars. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTerri Cortines\n\nMy first job was at McDonalds when I was 16\, it wasn’t a great job but it taught me work ethic and corporate mentality. Then at 21 I was a “dessert girl” at Victoria Station\, Universal City\, where I would break the  bartender\, which is when I found a curiosity and love for bartending. Life changed directions for a while and I was the owner/operator of  a trucking company for Airborne Express/DHL for 20 years. With my partner Lisa Hite\, we started the business with 5 trucks and built it to 50 trucks and 60 employees! After DHL let go of all their contractors across the United States\, Lisa and I ran a freight forwarding company for a few years until I realized I needed a change. I wanted to do something fun\, so I returned to my first love which was bartending. I am presently bartending at The Oaks Tavern and Universal Bar & Grill where I also work as an entertainment booker.\nAfter eight years behind the bar\, about to have an empty nest\, with my twin girls going off to college\, I find myself in a position to invest in my own bar. It’s exciting to be able to secure a future for myself and my children.  Owning my own bar and running my own business again is a dream come true! \n\n\n\nHappy Hour\nHappy Hour is EVERY DAY with 20% off EVERYTHING.\nMonday-Thursday ALL DAY!\nFriday-Saturday 5-8pm\nSundays-2-8pm\nOpen Monday-Thursday 7pm-2am\nFriday- Saturday 6pm-2am\nSunday 2pm-2am \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.northendhollywood.com/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Old LA Zoo
DESCRIPTION:OPEN EVERYDAY- Griffith Park\nThe Old LA Zoo\, or The Griffith Park Zoo\, opened in 1912 and closed in 1966 with the opening of the new\, Los Angeles Zoo. The abandoned site of the Griffith Park Zoo\, complete with the ruins of animal enclosures\, is now a picnic area and hiking trail in Griffith Park. \n  \n \nThe Old LA Zoo opened in 1912 with a grand total of only 15 animals. Bears\, Lions\, Monkeys\, Macaw’s\, Elephants\, Reptiles\, Goats\, and Turtles now lived in the zoo\, which was built on the original site of Griffith J. Griffith‘s defunct ostrich farm. \n  \n \nAs Los Angeles grew\, the small Griffith Park Zoo was increasingly criticized as an “inadequate\, ugly\, poorly designed despite drawing more than 2 million visitors a year. \nIn 1958\, the city decided to create a brand new zoo\, and the Griffith Park Zoo closed in August 1966. Its animals were transferred to the new Los Angeles Zoo 2 miles away\, which opened a few months later. \n  \n \nThe animal enclosures\, with the bars removed\, were left as ruins and remain today. A large picnic area was added\, and NOW every summer\, the zoo is the location for the Independent Shakespeare Company’s  Free “Shakespeare in the Park” performances. \nThe Old Zoo is located on Griffith Park Dr. Only 2 miles from today’s LA Zoo\,   \n  \n \nUpon arriving\, you will see a small parking lot. Follow the path Up the hill to reach the abandoned enclosure. \nUpon arriving\, you will enter many of the original Grotto’s. There are lots of little spaces to crawl into\, AND stairs to climb up. \n  \n \nFollow the path around to get to the upper lever where you will find even more cages & enclosures. \n \nIf you are going to come for a visit\, make sure to bring a bottle of water and your imagination. \n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nfriendsofgriffithpark.org\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:California African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair
DESCRIPTION:California African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair\nFREE! TUES – SUNDAY- Exposition Park\nThe California African American Museum (CAAM) focuses on enrichment and education on the cultural heritage and history of African Americans with a focus on California and western United States. \nAdmission is free to all visitors. The California African American Museum’s mission is to research\, collect\, preserve\, and interpret for public enrichment the history\, art\, and culture of African Americans with an emphasis on California and the western United States. \n \nCalifornia African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair\n  \nCAAM’s permanent collection consists of over 4\,000 objects ranging from the 1800s to the present. It encompasses paintings\, photographs\, film\, sculpture\, historical documents\, and artifacts\, and it spans nineteenth-century landscape paintings to modern artworks to contemporary mixed-media reflections on cultural and political events. \n \n  \nThe Museum’s first acquisitions included a bronze bust of civil rights activist Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune by artist Richmond Barthé and a sculpture by artist Maren Hassinger\, then at the start of her career. These laid the perfect groundwork for CAAM’s mandate to assemble a comprehensive\, thoughtful\, and wide-reaching collection. \n \n  \nCAAM’s deepest holdings include art made or connected to African Americans in California and the western United States. However\, the Museum also has significant works of contemporary art from the African diaspora (including Haiti\, Brazil\, and Jamaica)\, as well as traditional African art from Western\, Central\, and Sub-Saharan Africa. CAAM aims to represent the diverse contributions of African Americans in the United States\, but also to interpret how the past has affected identity in the present. \nCalifornia African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair\nToday\, CAAM oversees\, exhibits\, and conserves a rapidly growing collection. Each quarter\, curators review the current holdings and decide as a committee on future acquisitions. We view our collection as a living body — constantly evolving\, growing\, and reflecting the world in which we live. \n \n  \nSome examples of CAAM’s collection include the Walter Burrell Collection of audio recordings of Burrell’s interviews with African American celebrities\, broadcast by a local radio station in the early 1970s; the oral histories of Celes King\, who was both a local civil rights activist as well as a former Tuskegee airman; and selections from the collection of visual artist John Outterbridge. \n  \n \nHours\nTuesdays – Saturdays: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.\nSundays: 11:00 a.m.-5:00p.m.\nMondays: Closed \nCalifornia African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \ncaamuseum.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

Grand Avenue\, Los Angeles\, CA 90012\n\nThe Broad makes its collection of contemporary art from the 1950s to the present accessible to the widest possible audience by presenting exhibitions and operating a lending program to art museums and galleries worldwide. \nBy actively building a dynamic collection that features in-depth representations of influential contemporary artists and by advancing education and engagement through exhibitions and diverse public programming\, the museum enriches\, provokes\, inspires\, and fosters appreciation of art of our time. \n \nThe Broad was founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler\, the museum offers free general admission and presents an active program of rotating temporary exhibitions and innovative audience engagement. The Broad is home to 2\,000 works of art in the Broad collection\, which is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. \n  \n \nThe Broad from Home\nThe Broad is committed to inspiring and fostering an appreciation of contemporary art through our digital initiatives. Experience #TheBroadFromHome to find inspiration through music\, poetry\, performance\, workshops\, and conversations centered around the Broad collection. \nOverview \nPerformances \nTalks & Conversations \nArtist Spotlight \nFamily Art Workshops \nMore Online Programs \n  \nThe Broad Collection\nEli and Edythe Broad have been building their collection of postwar and contemporary art over the last 50 years. With a belief that the greatest art collections are built when the art is being made\, the Broads took to collecting art of their own time. \nThe Broad is home to 2\,000 works in the Broad collection by more than 200 artists\, and is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. The collection features in-depth holdings of influential contemporary artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Mark Bradford\, Jasper Johns\, Jeff Koons\, Barbara Kruger\, Yayoi Kusama\, Kerry James Marshall\, Julie Mehretu\, Takashi Murakami\, Robert Rauschenberg\, Ed Ruscha\, Cindy Sherman\, Cy Twombly\, Andy Warhol\, and more\, plus an ever-growing representation of younger artists. \n  \nView Our Collection Here\n \nIn Under the Table\, 1994\, the viewer is both in the world of imaginary giants and in the world of remembered childhood. Fusing Alice in Wonderland with the Duchampian tradition of the readymade\, Artist Robert Therrien constructs a doppelganger from an everyday object\, both displaying his visual wit and actualizing literary or imaginative fantasy in three-dimensional space. The table exudes an extraordinary aura\, compelling one to walk underneath the table and conjuring the physical memory of being under the table of one’s childhood home. Complicated and powerful\, the work offers fresh ideas of what a table\, sculpture\, and memory can mean. \n  \n  \n \nUsing the recognizable form of a balloon twisted into the shape of a dog\, Koons has frozen a moment in time\, exaggerating both scale and material. \nBalloon Dog (Blue) is literal and abstract. When standing close to it\, one’s own distorted reflection bends around smooth pert curves. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission is Free\nAll visitors must reserve timed tickets in advance. Some exhibitions and events carry a separate charge. \n\n\n\n\n\nHours\nMonday: Closed\nTuesday – Wednesday: 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.\nThursday – Friday: 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.\nSaturday: 10:00 a.m.-8:00p.m.\nSunday: 10:00 a.m.-6:00p.m. \n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.thebroad.org/visit/mirror-rooms\n \n  \nFind more

It contains a spectacular array of beaded objects\, including a majestic throne\, elaborate chiefly gowns\, and sophisticated divination regalia. \nA collection of post-apartheid election materials and contemporary South African art is being developed\, as are a number of collections of popular urban arts from countries including Tanzania and Muslim Senegal. Recently\, more than 400 textiles made by the Kuba peoples of the Democratic Republic of the Congo were gifted by the Christensen Foundation. \nThe collection represents some of the finest examples of men’s embroidered raffia pile cloths and women’s appliqué cloths. This collection complements already significant holdings of West African textiles from countries such as Mali and Ghana\, including kente and adinkra cloth and Asafo flags. The museum also has significant holdings of arts from the African Americas\, notably arts of Haitian Vodou\, Brazil and Suriname. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nARTS OF THE AMERICAS\n \nThese holdings include a comprehensive collection of pre-Columbian ceramics with the best representations from West Mexico\, the Valley of Mexico\, and pre-Columbian Peru (with special strengths in the art of the Moche). The Fowler also possesses a cohesive collection of Guatemalan costumes; an extensive collection of Mexican clothing; textiles of Peru; and a comprehensive representation of field-collected market materials from Michoacan\, Mexico. Complementing the pre-Columbian collections are field collections of the Warao and Yecuana Indians of the Orinoco Delta of Venezuela and contemporary Latin American popular arts including Mexican trees of life\, Day of the Dead figures\, and masks from Metepec\, Oaxaca\, Michoacan\, Jalisco\, Peubla\, and Guanajuato. \nNative American materials from the U.S. and Canada are a small but significant part of the collection. Materials from the United States and Canada include well-known Northwest Coast material\, as well as a notable cross section of late nineteenth-century Inuit art and material culture. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nARTS OF ASIA AND THE PACIFIC \n \n  \nThe Fowler Museum at UCLA collections from Insular Southeast Asia\, including Indonesia\, the Philippines\, Malaysia\, and aboriginal Taiwan\, are among the strongest in the United States. The Indonesian and Philippine textiles reinforce the Fowler Museum’s standing as a major repository for the textile arts. Also included are significant collections of sculptural material from Sumatra\, Borneo\, Sulawesi\, and Luzon\, puppetry from Java and Bali\, basketry from Indonesia and Philippines\, and metalwork from the Philippines. The primary strength of the Pacific collections lies in materials from Papua New Guinea\, especially the Papuan Gulf\, Trobriand Islands\, Sepik River\, and Maprik region. Australia and Polynesia are also represented by sizeable collections\, including 45 rare Maori cloaks. \nThe collections from mainland Asia are smaller but growing rapidly\, due to current collecting priorities. A collection of betel-chewing paraphernalia\, representing several countries in South and Southeast Asia\, is considered one of the finest in the world. Other holdings include textiles from Bhutan\, Pakistan\, India and Japan\, baskets and decorative arts from Japan\, puppetry from China\, Thailand\, India\, and Turkey\, and art and artifacts from Nepal. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nARCHAEOLOGICAL COLLECTIONS\n \nThe Fowler Museum at UCLA also serves as a repository for archaeological collections acquired during research conducted by UCLA faculty\, staff\, students\, and other professional archaeologists. Documentation of the collections includes artifact catalogs\, excavation notes\, maps\, and photographs. These collections serve primarily as an archive for teaching and research. The Museum is compliant with guidelines mandates by the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and has been signaled out by the State of California for its exemplary efforts. \nArchaeological collection areas include: \nCalifornia \nCollections from approximately 1100 sites\, mostly in Southern California. \nSouthwest \nSignificant collections from the Rainbow Bridge-Monument Valley Expedition of 1933-1938 and several Parowan Fremont sites in Utah excavated in the 1950’s\, and other Anasazi and Hohokam sites. \nMexico \nIncludes objects from 218 sites\, mostly in western and central Mexico. \nSudan \nThe Nubian/Egyptian fortress site at Askut is the source of approximately 60\,000 artifacts excavated by UCLA archaeologist Alexander Badawy in conjunction with the Aswan High Dam Salvage Campaign\, 1962-1964. \nOld World stone tool collection \nIncludes tools from Europe and the Middle East. \n\n\nMUSEUM HOURS\n\n\n\n\nAdmission is FREE \nMonday: closed\nTuesday: closed\nWednesday: 12 – 8pm\nThursday: 12 – 5pm\nFriday: 12 – 5pm\nSaturday: 12 – 5pm\nSunday: 12 – 5pm \n\n\n\n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nfowler.ucla.edu\n \n\n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:COME LIGHT UP THE NIGHT
DESCRIPTION:EVERY WEDNESDAY NIGHT @ South Beach Park in Santa Monica.\nGlow Flow at Santa Monica’s South Beach\, is a night time event\, that turns the beach into a playground of light.  Local artists spin various lighted objects to create one of a kind moments of kinetic art. A fantastic group of artists & dancers who work with LED Hula Hoops and other LED apparatus they can spin\, toss\, throw in the air\, etc. \n \n Very friendly and talented peeps.  \n \nCelebrating our love of  the FLOW at Glow Flow Santa Monica!\n\n\n\n\nHow to Capture the Glow Flow Moment\nIf spin isn’t your thing\, how about photography. Here are different ways to shoot Glow Flow Santa Monica. \nGOLDEN HOUR / BLUE HOUR\nYou can shoot available light for images of the artists. \nSLOW SHUTTER SPEED\nAs Glow Flow gets dark\, you can use a slow shutter speed to let the moving LED devices draw amazing “spirograph” shapes with light against the night sky. \nSLOW SYNC\nYou can combine both elements with slow sync or rear sync. A long shutter speed captures traces from LED Hula Hoops and then your on-or-off-camera flash lights the artist. \nTHE BEST FLASH?\nI haven’t had the best results with built-in pop-up flash. I like using an external flash in the hot-shoe. At Glow Flow\, We often say that having flash off the hot-shoe produces better lighting. For me\, in this case\, I think there’s so much going on\, that hot-shoe mounted flash works well. You could bring a light stand and battery powered strobe which might look great but seems like a lot of gear. \nTRIPOD?\nIf you use flash\, it will freeze the artist\, and the point-light-sources of the LEDs effectively freeze themselves\, so you can shoot this handheld. However\, you will get crisper images if you use a tripod. \nBRACKET\, BRACKET\, BRACKET!\nAs you can imagine\, dialing in your exposure can be a bit complicated! Plan to try a variety of different shutter speeds to see what works with the LEDs. And different flash intensities to balance the illumination on the artist with the LED traces. \n\nSouth Beach Park\nis located at 110 Pier Ave\, on the border between Venice Beach and Santa Monica.  \n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nfacebook.com/veniceglowflow\n \n\n\n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

The artwork accepted into our monthly group shows is solely based on the quality of work rather than the artists’ exhibit and sales history.  This allows us to introduce new and under exposed talent.  Because we cater to an over 21 audience\, artists are allowed to express themselves freely without the threat of censorship.  Our outside murals will be changed out approximately every six months and our patrons will also be entertained by live painters. \n \nHaving a stage opens up the range of artistic expression even further.  In addition to the visual arts\, the stage will provide anything from performance art\, bands and DJ’s to over the top shows from burlesque to magic and beyond.  We will also host artists talks as ArtBarLA is a gathering place for the community\, innovators and free thinkers in the art world.  ArtBarLA is an open space for open minds.  This sense of openness and innovation will bring something to the art world Los Angeles has yet to experience. \nArtBarLA is a delight to the senses\,\nnot limited to sight and sound\, but taste as well.  We have partnered with local breweries to provide fine artisan craft beers which can be consumed straight from the tap or bottle or enjoyed in a tasty beer cocktail.  All beverages will be savored in our unique setting.  Guests can sit back and relax in our whimsical bar and lounge area.  Every piece of eclectic furniture has been carefully curated to provide a fun\, playful experience. \nFollow us on Instagram and Facebook: @artbarla or contact us at artbarlainfo@gmail.com \n\nHours\nMonday & Tuesday: Closed\nWednesday – Thursday: 6:00pm – 11:00pm\nFriday: 6:00pm – 12:00pm\nSaturday: 6:00pm – 1:00pm\nSunday: 2:00pm – 8:00pm \n\n\n\n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.artbarla.com/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:MOTHERLAND: Free Stand Up Comedy
DESCRIPTION:EVERY WEDNESDAY – Los Angeles\nEvery Wednesday night\, Motherland offers a sublime evening of stand-up comedy featuring some of the best comedians in Los Angeles and across the country! Located at Kusina Filipina in Eagle Rock\, Motherland is 100% free and regularly features comics from NBC\, Comedy Central\, HBO\, MTV\, FOX\, and everywhere. \nMotherland starts at 9:00 pm\, and doors open at 8:30. Seating is first come first serve and food service is available during the show + beer & wine. College students with valid student IDs get 10% Off food. \nDon’t resist the call of the Motherland and enjoy a night full of laughter\, delicious food\, and frosty beverages! \n\n \n4157 Eagle Rock Boulevard\, Los Angeles\, CA 90065 \n\n\n\n\n\n \nExperience dining like you are back home! We serve you your favorite Filipino dishes along with a great dining experience.\nWe have been part of the Eagle Rock community since 2013. Visit us soon. \nFilipino food has been championed as “the next big thing” for years now by chefs\, authors\, and TV hosts — which\, dirty little secret\, just means that it’s the next cuisine to get elevated and sold at a high price. Declaring a culture’s food as the haute new ticket\, as a lot of Filipino chefs will tell you\, is usually hasty and reductive. While it’s undeniable to ignore the trendy appeal of dishes like pork sisig and oxtail kare kare\, it’s also interesting that Filipino food exists in this curious grey area where it’s being elevated before most people have even grasped the traditional concepts and flavors. \n\n\n \n\nHours\nMonday – Saturday: 10:00 am – 8:30 pm\nSunday: 10:00am – 8:00pm\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.eventbrite.com/e/motherland-free-stand-up-comedy\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:LA Korean Festival
DESCRIPTION:THURSDAY TO SUNDAY – Los Angeles\nCelebrate with us for the 49th Los Angeles Korean Festival this September 22-25! Give your taste buds a blast with authentic Korean Foods on display\, shop till you drop with Korean merchandise\, and witness Korean traditional cultural performances\, Korean celebrity shows\, and a variety of fun programs! \nMAP OF FESTIVITIES\n \nFESTIVAL OF FOOD\n \nEvery festival requires food that energizes people as they walk around looking at all the attractions. The Los Angeles Korean Festival proudly boasts exquisite food that will make your mouth water. With foods that are straight from the streets of Korea\, eating Korean foods at our festival will make you feel like you’re roaming the bright streets of Korea. LAKF also presents not only food that is loved in the streets of Korea but foods that are enjoyed by everyone throughout the world. \nCome and enjoy a new food experience: ranging from the taste of mom’s Korean-style pancake to the spicy flavors of a Korean rice cake\, to craving-inducing Korean BBQ to the iconic shape of a tornado potato\, together with Korean-infused foods from around the world. \n  \nFESTIVAL OF SHOPPING\n \nThe Los Angeles Korean Festival (LAKF) is a one-stop shopping destination where you can find unique local and Korea’s regional premium products. Featuring Korean products that are even hard to get a hold of in Koreatown\, Los Angeles Korean Festival provides vendors that bring products straight from Korea. Beautiful lanterns from the Korean province of Jinju welcome over 500 vendors and 400\,000 shoppers at a festival that is nothing short of amazing. Charmingly made booths that consist of automobiles\, cosmetics\, casinos\, and many more local vendors participate to market their brand and sell their exclusive products. We also have beautiful and tasty products from our local Angelinos who know how to cater to us. \nCome check out the following special areas and what these unique vendors have to offer! \nKorean Agricultural Exposition (Expo) \n \nVendors from all over South Korea come to sell their homeland products. Being in Los Angeles\, we are mostly only exposed to products that come from Seoul\, the expo is here to help us truly taste Korea from the roots. With over 120 different companies from 8 provinces in Korea that come to join us\, Angelinos will get the opportunity to taste foods and buy goods straight from Korea! \nKorean Toys & Premium Products Expo (KTEx) \n \nLike Korean Agricultural products\, many shoppers scour online to find products with cult followings through social media whether cosmetics\, kitchen products\, home goods\, and other unique products. This year\, 40 booths of goods that you can find in Korea will be dedicated within the heart of our festival. The newly organized KTEx will allow shoppers to see products firsthand from Korea without the struggle of depending on family and friends to ship them over from Korea. \n  \nFESTIVAL OF PERFORMANCE\n \nOn a glamorous stage in the heart of the festival\, Korean traditional cultural performances\, Korean celebrity shows\, and a variety of fun programs will be presented. In Los Angeles\, the Korean Festival pursues both following new trends and keeping the tradition alive at the same time\, this aspect of the festival draws a diverse crowd of both ages and ethnicity while the makeup of the stage brings pleasure to all of the audience during the festival. Through the power of Hallyu\, we hope that LAKF attendees can now enjoy the festivities and performances that are spreading from Korea to the world. We plan on creating an enjoyable and memorable time for everyone to come and enjoy the renowned performances on our fabulous stage! \n  \nFESTIVAL OF EXPERIENCE\n \nKorea’s representative traditional beauty attire is the HANBOK. Wear it and make composite images amongst the backdrop of breathtaking Korean structures and views. Share these amazing moments and experiences with the people you treasure the most. Further\, come and learn how to make a Korean lotus flower\, craft a turtle ship\, play traditional Korean games\, and much more. Through these fun-filled activities\, you can experience an extraordinary Korean cultural life. We will also provide a Korean traditional festival as an amusement. You will be able to play and sing traditional songs with a large gong [Jing]\, a small gong [Kkwaenggwari]\, a middle waist drum [Janggu]\, and a small handle drum [Sogo]\, and many more Korean instruments to teach you about ancient Korean ancestor spirits. In addition\, we will provide a variety of Korean cultures and customs to allow foreigners who come to create meaningful and exciting memories. \nLos Angeles Korean Parade\n \nSponsored by The Korea Times (Los Angeles)\, the annual Korean Parade on Olympic Boulevard has become one of the best features that the festival offers. Ornate floats from corporate sponsors\, performers\, and Koreatown’s notable figures\, parade down the street as crowds of all ages gather. \n  \n\n \n965 S. Normandie Ave.\, #102\, Los Angeles\, CA 90006 \nIn 1974\, the Los Angeles Korean Festival Foundation was founded by the leaders of the early Korean-American community with the purpose of preserving their Korean roots after immigrating to the United States. In the great city of Los Angeles\, where many diverse cultures co-exist\, the Los Angeles Korean Festival Foundation is considered one of the major advocates of furthering the knowledge of Korean culture and its traditions. The LAKF Foundation works year-round in organizing the four-day festival to carry out the mission of providing the community with a festival that is an instrument of inclusivity and an advocate of cultural diversity awareness\, providing not only the Korean cultural heritage but also bringing together the numerous ethnic groups residing in Los Angeles. \nThe annual festival has evolved beyond what the founders could have imagined. The Los Angeles Korean Festival continues to provide fun and exciting experiences\, through its great entertainment\, food vendors\, a mile-long parade\, and promotional exhibits from many different industries. One of the greatest additions is the Korean Premium Products Expo. Attendees that come from all over the United States\, can readily acquire goods that were once difficult to come by. \nYou are all invited\, free of admission for all four days. Come\, join us\, and let’s celebrate together! \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.lakoreanfestival.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Pacific Marine Mammal Center
DESCRIPTION:OPEN DAILY – Laguna Beach\nWELCOME TO THE PACIFIC MARINE MAMMAL CENTER! The Pacific Marine Mammal Center rescues\, rehabilitates\, and releases marine mammals\, and in doing so we contribute to ocean science and conservation. See some of our current rescued patients recovering! We are run primarily by volunteers who will greet you in our visitor yard and introduce you to our California sea lions\, Northern elephant seals\, Pacific harbor seals\, or Northern fur seal patients. Our visitor yard features interactive displays\, marine mammal artifacts\, and a Treasure Trove gift shop. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are appreciated! PMMC also offers educational programs for all ages. \nOPEN DAILY FROM 10:00 am TO 4:00 pm\n \nReservations are required for groups of 10 or more only\, smaller groups need not make reservations. We are closed on Thanksgiving\, Christmas Eve\, Christmas Day\, and New Year’s Day. \n\n\nBOOK YOUR GROUP HERE!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n20612 Laguna Canyon Road Laguna Beach\, CA 92651 \nHISTORY\nPacific Marine Mammal Center began as Friends of the Sea Lion in 1971 with only three volunteers: Jim Stauffer\, John Cunningham\, and Dr. Rose Ekeberg. \nIn the spring of 1971\, a little girl approached Jim Stauffer\, a Newport Beach lifeguard\, on the beach.  The little girl told Jim that she had seen a seal on the beach.  Jim hopped in his lifeguard jeep and went to go investigate.  What he found was a young Pacific harbor seal. When Jim placed the animal in his jeep\, it leaped right out.  Jim decided the animal must be healthy and just needed to rest\, so he returned to work.  \nConcern for the animal nagged at him all day. When Jim returned to check on the small seal\, it was still on the beach.  Jim picked up the seal and took it to the Dover Shores Animal Hospital\, where Dr. Rod La Shell examined the animal and found that it had lungworms.  With advice from Dr. La Shell\, Jim nursed the harbor seal back to health and released the animal back into the ocean. \n \nMISSION STATEMENT\n“The Pacific Marine Mammal Center rescues\, rehabilitates\, and releases marine mammals and inspires ocean stewardship through research\, education\, and collaboration.” \nRescue\n \nUnlike whales and dolphins\, seals and sea lions don’t have to remain in the water in order to survive. The animals beach themselves to be warm and dry when feeling ill. They seek rest on land for a variety of reasons and are not always in need of intervention. Our staff is trained to recognize animals suffering from infections\, malnourishment\, pneumonia\, gill net strangulation\, etc. which can harm an animal’s chance for survival. \nRehabilitation\n \nWhen a “patient” is admitted\, our staff performs all necessary procedures under the direction and protocols set by the Animal Care Director and our Veterinary Medical Director. During the course of rehabilitation\, animals require a variety of treatments such as administration of antibiotics and subcutaneous fluids\, tube feeding\, force-feeding\, wound care\, etc. \nMost animals come in dehydrated and the most effective means to provide fluids and nourishment is through tube feeding. The process requires the blending of fish\, electrolytes\, warm water\, vitamins\, and medication into a fish formula. This formula is fed to the animals by inserting a flexible tube into the stomach using large syringes. As soon as the animals are hydrated and stable\, we wean them to eat whole fish. \nRelease\n \nOnce an animal has gained an optimal weight and is competing for food\, it’s ready for release. Prior to release\, each animal is tagged with an identification number. The color-coded tags indicate the animal has been rehabilitated and helps identify the specific animal and care center in case the animal needs care in the future. We strive to return every one of our patients back to the wild once their care with us is complete. \nEducation\nIt is not enough to rescue and rehabilitate these animals. We must communicate what needs to be done so that positive change can happen. PMMC strives to inspire ocean stewardship in all generations through sharing the stories of the animals we assist. Over 50\,000 people learn about conservation by talking with our education docents and interacting with exhibits in our visitor yard each year. We welcome over 7\,000 children\, most through our free programs for at-risk communities\, in our onsite experiential-based education programs that teach the importance of marine science and eco-friendly behavior. Our outreach team engages thousands of more people in offsite programs\, which share the importance of community involvement. Additionally\, through distance learning technology\, our education department brings conservation messaging to children and adults all over the nation and internationally. \nResearch\n \nAn important part of marine mammal recovery is ongoing research. Research is being done to find the pathological conditions that affect the marine mammals of Southern California. Only through this research are we able to discover the cause-effect relationships that can help us to understand the best means to rehabilitate our marine mammal patients. \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.pacificmmc.org/beach-cleanups\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:The FOWLER MUSEUM: Reflecting Culture
DESCRIPTION:ON PERMANENT DISPLAY- Westwood Village\, UCLA\nUCLA Fowler Museum presents\n\n\nReflecting Culture: The Francis E. Cowler\, Jr. Collection of Silver\n \nComprising 251 objects representing 16th through 19th century Europe\, Great Britain\, and the United States\, this exhibition interprets silver in its social contexts. Gleaming vessels from renowned workshops—such as those of British silversmith Paul de Lamerie (c.1800)\, Russian jeweler Karl Fabergé (c.1900)\, and American patriot silversmith Paul Revere (c.1760)—highlight important styles and techniques. \n\n\n  \n\n\n308 Charles E. Young Dr N\, Los Angeles\, CA 90024 \n\nFREE EVERY DAY! @ UCLA\nThe Fowler Museum at UCLA explores global arts and cultures with an emphasis on works from Africa\, Asia\, the Pacific\, and the Americas—past\, and present. The Fowler enhances understanding and appreciation of the diverse peoples\, cultures\, and religions of the world through dynamic exhibitions\, publications\, and public programs\, informed by interdisciplinary approaches and the perspectives of the cultures represented. \nAlso featured is the work of international contemporary artists presented within the complex frameworks of politics\, culture\, and social action. \nFowler Museum at UCLA provides exciting\, informative\, and thought-provoking exhibitions and events for the UCLA community and the people of greater Los Angeles and beyond. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAreas of the Collection\n\n\n\n\nARTS OF AFRICA AND THE AFRICAN DIASPORA\n \nOne of the largest and finest in the United States\, and one of the top twenty African collections worldwide\, this collection offers a superb representation of the arts of many African nations\, including objects from Senegal\, Nigeria\, Ghana\, Cameroon\, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire)\, Kenya\, Zambia\, and South Africa. The Yoruba collection alone is one of the three finest in the world. It contains a spectacular array of beaded objects\, including a majestic throne\, elaborate chiefly gowns and sophisticated divination regalia. The museum also has significant holdings of arts from the African Americas\, and notable arts from Haitian Vodou\, Brazil\, and Suriname. \n\n\n\nARTS OF THE AMERICAS\n\n\n \nThese holdings include a comprehensive collection of pre-Columbian ceramics with the best representations from West Mexico\, the Valley of Mexico\, and pre-Columbian Peru (with special strengths in the art of the Moche). The Fowler also possesses a cohesive collection of Guatemalan costumes; an extensive collection of Mexican clothing; textiles of Peru; and a comprehensive representation of field-collected market materials from Michoacan\, Mexico. Complementing the pre-Columbian collections are field collections of the Warao and Yecuana Indians of the Orinoco Delta of Venezuela and contemporary Latin American popular arts including Mexican trees of life\, Day of the Dead figures\, and masks from Metepec\, Oaxaca\, Michoacan\, Jalisco\, Puebla\, and Guanajuato. \nNative American materials from the U.S. and Canada are a small but significant part of the collection. Materials from the United States and Canada include well-known Northwest Coast material\, as well as a notable cross-section of late nineteenth-century Inuit art and material culture. \n\n\n\nARTS OF ASIA AND THE PACIFIC\n\n\n \nThe Fowler Museum at UCLA collections from Insular Southeast Asia\, including Indonesia\, the Philippines\, Malaysia\, and aboriginal Taiwan\, are among the strongest in the United States. The Indonesian and Philippine textiles reinforce the Fowler Museum’s standing as a major repository for the textile arts. Also included are significant collections of sculptural material from Sumatra\, Borneo\, Sulawesi\, and Luzon\, puppetry from Java and Bali\, basketry from Indonesia and the Philippines\, and metalwork from the Philippines. Other holdings include textiles from Bhutan\, Pakistan\, India\, and Japan\, baskets and decorative arts from Japan\, puppetry from China\, Thailand\, India\, and Turkey\, and art and artifacts from Nepal. \n\n\n\nARCHAEOLOGICAL COLLECTIONS\n\n\n \nThe Fowler Museum at UCLA also serves as a repository for archaeological collections acquired during research conducted by UCLA faculty\, staff\, students\, and other professional archaeologists. Documentation of the collections includes artifact catalogs\, excavation notes\, maps\, and photographs. These collections serve primarily as an archive for teaching and research. The Museum is compliant with guidelines mandated by the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and has been signaled out by the State of California for its exemplary efforts. \nArchaeological collection areas include: \nCalifornia \nCollections from approximately 1100 sites\, mostly in Southern California. \nSouthwest \nSignificant collections from the Rainbow Bridge-Monument Valley Expedition of 1933-1938 and several Parowan Fremont sites in Utah were excavated in the 1950s\, and other Anasazi and Hohokam sites. \n\n\nMUSEUM HOURS\n\nAdmission is FREE \nMonday – Tuesday: closed\nWednesday – Sunday: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm \n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nfowler.ucla.edu\n \n\n  \nFind more
