With special guest regularly making appearances\, you never know who will stop by.  karaoke  10pm-1:45am \n\n\nTuesday- The Oaks Acoustic and Open Mic Singer/ Songwriter\n\n \nTo get booked for a set 7:30-8:30pm shoot Joey a message on IG @bluemusicj \nIf you are a singer/ songwriter and want to bring your own guitar and sing your own stuff\, you can sign up to sing 8:30-9:30pm! We just require a one drink minimum to sing. \nAfter OA Tuesdays we have… karaoke  10pm-1:45am \n  \nWednesday- King Trivia/ Karaoke with Kirk!\n \nJoin us every Wednesday for Team Trivia with King Trivia! \nEvery week\, teams of 2-6 people compete to prove they are the smartest\, or at least they have to most random information in their memory banks.  Not only do you get bragging rights\, but first place gets a $30 gift certificate\, second place gets a $20 gift certificate\, and if we have 5 or more teams we also give out third place!  Even if you aren’t so good at the trivia stuff (I suck at Trivia Crack)\, it’s fun to join in! Bring your friends who are smarter than you\, because you’re allowed to have up to 6 people on your trivia team-that’s why team trivia is better than solo trivia.  We don’t give points for creative answers\, but sometimes you’ll get free glassware and swag just for being the funniest.  Our host is Rebekah Fear stay late to hear her sing some badass karaoke. \nTeam Trivia starts at 7:30pm\, so don’t stop home after work\, come straight to the bar to get here before 7pm to take advantage of our happy hour specials!  We serve pizza\, tacos\, burritos & quesadillas\, so no need to drive through on your way here\, but if you’re craving a burger or sushi\, that’s ok too.  We allow outside food as long as its none of the food mentioned above.  It is a one DRINK per person minimum to participate in our team trivia- if you’re sober\, that’s okay\, we have soda\, juice\, non alcoholic beer and delicious cold-pressed coffee from Modern Times Brewery! \n  \n \nWhen team trivia is over around 10pm\, we have Emily Kirk getting you Kirked all night long with her amazing pipes on karaoke. \nEmily is a musician and comedian and hosts events all over town and now she is at The Oaks on Wednesday\, & Thursday nights hosting karaoke for you! DESCRIPTION:OPEN EVERYDAY- Griffith Park\nThe Old LA Zoo\, or The Griffith Park Zoo\, opened in 1912 and closed in 1966 with the opening of the new\, Los Angeles Zoo. The abandoned site of the Griffith Park Zoo\, complete with the ruins of animal enclosures\, is now a picnic area and hiking trail in Griffith Park. \n  \n \nThe Old LA Zoo opened in 1912 with a grand total of only 15 animals. Bears\, Lions\, Monkeys\, Macaw’s\, Elephants\, Reptiles\, Goats\, and Turtles now lived in the zoo\, which was built on the original site of Griffith J. Griffith‘s defunct ostrich farm. \n  \n \nAs Los Angeles grew\, the small Griffith Park Zoo was increasingly criticized as an “inadequate\, ugly\, poorly designed despite drawing more than 2 million visitors a year.  \nIn 1958\, the city decided to create a brand new zoo\, and the Griffith Park Zoo closed in August 1966. Its animals were transferred to the new Los Angeles Zoo 2 miles away\, which opened a few months later. \n  \n \nThe animal enclosures\, with the bars removed\, were left as ruins and remain today. A large picnic area was added\, and NOW every summer\, the zoo is the location for the Independent Shakespeare Company’s  Free “Shakespeare in the Park” performances. \nThe Old Zoo is located on Griffith Park Dr. Only 2 miles from today’s LA Zoo\,   \n  \n \nUpon arriving\, you will see a small parking lot. Follow the path Up the hill to reach the abandoned enclosure.  \nUpon arriving\, you will enter many of the original Grotto’s. The walking tour is on July 26\, 2022\, Tuesday from 10:00 am till 3:00 pm. The meeting place is at Union Station\, 800 N Alameda St\, Los Angeles. Please note that the meeting spot is subject to change – RSVP to stay updated! \n\nITINERARY\nWe will be meeting outside\, on the left side of Union Station (if looking at the building from Alameda)\, and will be there doing intros\, and checking out the building\, until about 20 minutes past our meet time. From Union Station\, we will walk through Chinatown\, Olvera Street\, Downtown LA and end in Little Tokyo. If you need to drop out early\, at any point\, you can go back to any Gold or Red Line station and take the train back to your car.\nA more detailed itinerary will be emailed to those that RSVP. \n\nCOST: The walking tour is free for students!\nFor non-students\, there is a suggested ticket price of $20 – $30 if you can\, but only if you can – and no worries at all if you can’t! More info will be provided once you register in regards to how to make a payment.\nThere are a few minimal costs to take into consideration\, such as food and drinks along the walk.\nIf you opt to park at Union Station\, budget for up to $15 for parking\, $8 if you park underground\, ‘in the back’. \n\nHOW MUCH WALKIN’ ARE WE TALKIN’?\nYou will indeed get your workout – smartwatches and trackers will be buzzing! Typically\, we track a good 4-5 miles\, so wear comfy shoes! That said\, we move at a moderate pace\, with lots of stops\, and breaks for food and drink. \n\nABOUT THE WALKING TOURS\nInspired by the tours previously led by Dr. Mike Steiner of the CSUF American Studies department\, and the book A People’s Guide to Los Angeles\, the Los Angeles walking tours are designed to provide a link between local history\, community\, and the ways that urban spaces transform when explored by foot. Tour organizer Brande Jackson teaches in the American Studies departments of both CSUF and CSULB\, and also serves as the program director of Living Histories\, a non-profit organization devoted to community and creativity. She set out to ‘revive’ the walking tour tradition of CSUF AMST in early 2016 as part of her ‘California Cultures’ class and has since expanded it into a larger community project. \nEach walk brings together a mixture of high school and college students with community members\, who\, as a group\, explore the place they collectively call home. The walks emphasize the often overlooked and untold stories that shaped the unique history of Los Angeles\, and some tours also emphasize “the city as creative inspiration” via street photography and writing. We recommend the Rey-class for your first Lightspeed Saber. Check the weapon class page for regulations to make sure the hilt you purchase is Lightspeed legal. \nNote that you do not need a Lightspeed blade to start practicing moves. You only need one once you begin competing. The standard blade that comes with your purchase should be fine for the time being. \n  \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSTEP 4 – LEARN BASIC MOVES AND CONCEPTS\nWe have tons of free information available for Lightspeed Saber fencing. But if you’re practicing alone\, you may want to learn our sequences. This is a growing library of technical exercises that help you fine tune your technique without a partner. You can do this on your own and evaluate yourself\, or you can enroll in our program\, where we’ll evaluate you to make sure you’re doing everything right. You can even get certified to evaluate others. \n  \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSTEP 5 – GET EQUIPMENT\nTo do Lightspeed Saber fencing you need to be properly equipped. This activity is dangerous. Make sure that you have everything listed on this page. Mindfulness Meditation is the moment-by-moment process of actively and openly observing one’s physical\, mental\, and emotional experiences. Mindfulness has scientific support as a means to reduce stress\, improve attention\, boost the immune system\, reduce emotional reactivity\, and promote a general sense of health and well-being. These half hour weekly sessions are open to all who are interested in learning how to live more presently in life. No special clothing is required\, and participants are welcome to join for five minutes or enjoy the entire 30 minutes.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese free weekly drop-in sessions usually take place in the Hammer’s Billy Wilder Theater but are now offered live online via Zoom. \nMindful Awareness Meditation is provided by UCLA & The Hammer Museum\n  \nff \n\nSessions are led by Diana Winston and other instructors from the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center. Plus KCRW DJs\, happy hour\, and extended gallery hours. \n\nHANA VU with KCRW DJs Dan Wilcox and Valida\nJuly 28 6:30pm \nHana Vu writes pop songs from her bedroom in Los Angeles. In 2021\, she signed to Ghostly International and released her full-length debut\, Public Storage\, followed by the EP Parking Lot in 2022. Vu’s relationship with music began when she picked up a her dad’s guitar and taught herself to play. She’d wake up every day and listen to L.A.’s ALT 98.7\, home to 1990s and 2000s alternative rock. Later in high school\, she found the local DIY scene. She remembers\, “A lot of my peer musicians were surf rock/punk type bands and so I tried to fit into that when I was gigging around. But what I was listening to at that time [St. Vincent\, Sufjan Stevens] was very different from what I performed.” As a live performer\, Vu has supported the likes of Soccer Mommy\, Sales\, Nilufer Yanya\, Wet\, Kilo Kish\, and Phantogram. \nIn 2014\, at age 14\, she started keeping a journal of bedroom pop experiments on Bandcamp. Her sound—brooding\, melodic pop driven by guitar and Vu’s distinctive contralto—developed across a series of self-releases\, including a low-key Willow Smith collaboration and covers of The Cure and Phil Collins. Her 2018 single “Crying on the Subway” caught the ear of Gorilla vs. Bear\, who released Vu’s self-produced debut EP\, How Many Times Have You Driven By.
