We aim to lead change through innovative programming that promotes cardiovascular exercise followed by focused breath and movement while holding space for diverse\, intergenerational exchange. In these times of crisis\, outdoor\, “respectful-distanced\,” community-centered events are needed more than ever and we hope to be the catalyst for systemic change for all residents of Los Angeles County. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEnjoy Hiking and Yoga Classes as you Find Connection. To Nature. To Community. To Self.\n\nHOW IT WORKS\n \n8 AM: HIKE \nSet your GPS for La Brea & Don Lorenzo. Meet at the East Trailhead Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area to check-in and meet your Hike Leader! \n  \n \n9 AM: YOGA \nMeet at the 9/11 Memorial Tree at the Bluff (nearby the Burke Roche picnic area/Restrooms) \nThe yoga is fun and BEGINNER-friendly! \nFrequently Asked Questions\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow does this work? \nMeet at 8am at the East Trailhead of Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area\, which is at Don Lorenzo and La Brea. \nIf you intend on meeting for the hike\, route your car to “Don Lorenzo and La Brea.” There is street parking and other park lots nearby. You will need to cross the street and take the steps up to the East Trailhead map sign. \n \nUpon arrival\, each participant signs the liability form and the roster. \nYou will have the choice to join a Hike Leader to have a “respectful-distanced” mindful hike experience\, or you may take a self-guided hike. Your Hike Leader will hold space for introductions and mindful pauses during your hike towards the yoga location. Be prepared to say your name\, where you reside\, and your take on the theme of the week. Themes are announced in the weekly newsletter sent every Wednesday\, subscribe here \n \nA few minutes before 9am\, the hike ends at the Bluff\, where you can find restrooms and water fountains.\nAt 9 am\, we will begin the yoga class. \n \nAfterwards\, we take a photo for social media\, join in with your favorite yoga pose of the day!\nIf you decide to post on social media\, please tag us @HiketoYogaLA! \n \nHow much does this cost? \nThis is a community initiative fueled by donations and volunteer hours. Please share your abundance energy with us through donating to our GoFundMe. 100 percent of your donation goes into making these community events accessible to all participants! \nPlease consider joining our VIP Membership Circle to get a Logo Pin (flash your VIP pin to our sign-in team\, no need to sign in more than once!) and exclusive invitations to members-only events. \n \nWhen I enter “Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area” in my GPS\, why does it give me an address on La Cienega? \nThe La Cienega entrance is the official entrance to the park. There is a $7 cash-only parking fee on the weekends. Enter here\, take the road all the way up\, and park by the Burke Roche picnic area/restrooms if you want to ONLY join the 9am yoga. \n \nWhat kind of trail will the group hike?\nThere are many trails up to the yoga location but we plan to have Hike Leaders for our Signature moderate\, nature-full trail with inclines and declines. The trail will take us to up to the Bluff where there are restrooms and water fountains. This 2021 Season we will be debuting the Hummingbird trail (Park to Playa trail + Bowl loop)\, which is more flat and takes you through a beautiful hummingbird garden. Both hikes will be about 40-45 minutes. \n \nWhat if I only want to do the yoga class\, what is the easiest way to get to yoga at 9 am? \nYou can pay $7 cash for parking\, enter at the La Cienega entrance\, and park right by the Burke Roche picnic area/restrooms. Walk about 2 minutes down the Bluff to the 9/11 Memorial Tree. \n \nWho will be teaching the yoga classes? Will the classes be beginner-friendly? \nWe have an awesome team of Hike to Yoga LA Yoga Teachers\, including Hike to Yoga LA Founder\, Laurie\, who enjoys teaching her signature Yoga Wave Circle!\nOur teacher team is diverse in age and body-type\, and are ready to inspire you with community\, nature and of course\, yoga!\nYoga class is 60 minutes long\, starts promptly at 9 am. Please be on time as it is distracting to join when class has already started. \n \nWhat should I bring?\nYour yoga mat\, yoga towel\, beach towel\, or just do yoga on the earth! (Might be wet from morning dew!) It is advisable that you have a mat strap or backpack since you are responsible for your own mat!\nDon’t forget your own reusable water bottle to stay hydrated; there is a water fountain by the Bluff area. \n \nWhat happens after the Hike to Yoga classes? How do I get back to the meeting point? \nThe Park to Playa trail is flat and should take about 15-20 minutes to get back to the Don Lorenzo and La Brea meeting point. \n\nREGISTER ONLINE FOR FREE TICKETS\n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.HiketoYogaLA.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Net Cruze Coffee and Cars
DESCRIPTION:Net Cruze Cars And Coffee- Westchester\, California\nNet Cruze Cars And Coffee events have been going for decades.  And that was news to me upon my first stop in mid-August. \nBut they’re in a new location.  And it’s kind of tricky in that it’s a huge parking lot behind the 99-cents store in Westchester.  Further\, this is a cool event worth checking out for sure. \nSo cars from the ’30s through ’50s are pretty well represented.  And that’s both originals and customs.  Then\, when I was there\, there was a Corvette Club represented too.  All newer C7s but nicely done as well. \nBut everyone and everything is welcome.  For instance\, there was an older Bronco\, a newer Porsche\, and even a Studebaker on hand. \nAdditionally\, the organizers offered coffee and pastries.  Plus a raffle drawing toward the end that kept everyone on hand for cash prizes\, gas cards\, and even handbags for the ladies. \n\n \n1939 Buick \n\nNet Cruze Cars And Coffee – Westchester\, California\nLocation: 6835 La Tijera Blvd.\nAdmission: Free\nVehicle registration: Free \n  \nHours\n2nd and 4th Saturdays: 9:00am – 12:00pm \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.idrivesocal.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

By the end of the 80s\, our Museum was formally organized under the State of California as a not-for-profit public benefit corporation. \nThe Association acquired\, and still maintains\, a space in the LACo Fire Department Headquarters in Los Angeles\, storage units at the Department’s Air facility in Pacoima\, and a large warehouse in South Gate. Around the year 2000\, the Association rented an old auto repair shop from the city of Bellflower\, CA. This facility became the first public face for the Association and allowed us to open to the public for the first time. \nIn July of 2018\, the City of Bellflower became a partner with the Association. The showcase Museum is located on the bottom floor of Bellflower’s MAYNE EVENTS CENTER. The auto body repair building was purchased by The Association the same year and now houses the Los Angeles County Fire Museum’s “The Shop”\, the place where all the hard restoration work is now performed. \nMISSION STATEMENT\n\nCelebrate the history of the American Fire Service and the contributions made to that history by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.\nDocument and present the evolution\, history\, and impact of fire-based Emergency Medical Services.\nAcquire\, preserve\, and present artifacts\, apparatus\, photographs\, and documents\, along with other materials\, which assist in the presentation of our history.\nRestore antique fire apparatus to accurately reflect their respective histories.\n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.lacountyfiremuseum.com/visit-us\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

In 2018 alone\, we treated 389 animals recovered from our beaches. \n\nOur mission is important to the health and safety of all of Los Angeles County beachgoers because there are no protected beaches where sick or injured seals or sea lions can rest and heal away from people.   MMCC Los Angeles is the only 24/7/365 safe haven for these animals in Los Angeles County.  Without our rehabilitation and conservation work\, these animals would be left to die on our beaches. \n \nANIMAL CARE\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are the only 24/7/365 safe haven for marine animals in Los Angeles County. SUMMARY:THIS IS NOT AMERICA'S FLAG
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL EXHIBITION AT THE BROAD: MAY 21 – SEPTEMBER 25\, 2022\nFeaturing over twenty artists\, the special exhibition This Is Not America’s Flag spotlights the myriad ways artists explore the symbol of the flag of the United States of America\, underscoring its vast\, divergent\, and complex meanings. \nTitled after Alfredo Jaar’s iconic 1987 work\, A Logo for America\, This Is Not America’s Flag provides a critical discourse on the symbol’s meaning\, the complexity and contradictions of contemporary national identity\, and artists as active citizens. \nThe exhibition was developed conceptually in the summer of 2020 during the groundswell of activism for racial justice in the wake of the murders of George Floyd\, Ahmaud Arbery\, and Breonna Taylor and was inspired by two works in the Broad collection\, Flag (1967) by Jasper Johns and African-American Flag (1990) by David Hammons. \nThis Is Not America’s Flag presents works from over twenty artists including Laura Aguilar\, Nicole Eisenman\, Jeffrey Gibson\, Jaar\, and Johns\, as well as African-American Flag (1990) by Hammons acquired by The Broad in 2019 and America (2021) by Hank Willis Thomas\, acquired last year. The exhibition includes works that both embrace the flag as the signifier of the nation and its ideals and subvert it to express injustices and inequities woven into the fabric of the U.S.\, past\, and present. \n\nHighlighted Artwork\nAmerica\nHank Willis Thomas\n2021\nMixed media including US flags\n \n  \nAfrican-American Flag\n\nDavid Hammons\n\n\n1990\n\n\ndyed cotton\n\n\n59 x 92 1/4 in. SUMMARY:The Getty Summer Concerts Series- OFF THE 405
DESCRIPTION:SELECT SATURDAYS THIS SUMMER- The Getty Center\nThe Getty Center presents OFF THE 405\, the Getty Center’s annual outdoor summer concert series\, bringing some of today’s most exciting bands to the stage for a memorable experience amid stunning architecture and breathtaking sunset views.\n\n\nLos Retros\nDate: Saturday\, July 9\, 2022\nTime: DJ set at 6 p.m.; Performance at 7:30 p.m.\nLocation: Museum Courtyard\nAdmission: Free\, tickets required. Tickets available June 25\, 2022.\n\nLos Retros is a bedroom pop band helmed by Mauri Tapia\, a multi-instrumentalist from Oxnard\, CA. Making music since his early teens\, Mauri plays each instrument on his recordings and has grown a loyal fanbase via YouTube and Soundcloud\, as well as through local shows up and down the SoCal coast. Tracing his musical inspirations from both American and Latin American left-field pop and soft rock groups from the 1970s and 80s\, Los Retros pays homage to Chilean pop band Los Angeles Negros. Los Retros recently toured in support of Chicano Batman and has been hailed as one of “the most exciting new signees for influential Southern California label Stones Throw Records.” \nRead more: “Los Retros: Dreams of a Nostalgic Future\,” Remezcla. \nWatch: Los Retros – “Someone To Spend Time With” \n\n\nOther Performances Include:\n\nHand Habits\nDate: Saturday\, July 23\, 2022\nTime: DJ set at 6 p.m.; Performance at 7:30 p.m.\nLocation: Museum Courtyard\nAdmission: Free\, tickets required. Tickets available July 9\, 2022 \n\nHand Habits is the songwriting outlet of guitarist Meg Duffy. Their recent album\, Fun House\, wasn’t intended as a reaction to the pandemic but was the result of taking a difficult\, if much-needed\, moment of pause. Produced by Sasami Ashworth (SASAMI) and engineered by Kyle Thomas (King Tuff)\, its eleven tracks sparkle and surprise\, representing the turning of a corner\, a means of processing hardship and stepping into one’s own power. Meg has also toured as a guitarist with Sylvan Esso and recorded on albums for War on Drugs\, Weyes Blood\, William Tyler\, Fruit Bats\, and others\, and in 2020\, Meg joined Perfume Genius as a touring guitarist. \nRead more: “Inside Hand Habits’ Fun House\,” Fader Magazine. \nWatch: Hand Habits – “Aquamarine” \n\n  \n\nStanding on the Corner\nDate: Saturday\, August 27\, 2022\nTime: DJ set at 6 p.m.; Performance at 7:30 p.m.\nLocation: Museum Courtyard\nAdmission: Free\, tickets required. Tickets available 13\, 2022. \n\nThe New York collective Standing on the Corner often calls itself an “art ensemble\,” a moniker which helps outline its approach to music and performance\, while hinting at its creative roots and perspective. With composer\, conductor and co-founder Gio Escobar at the center of a constantly rotating band line-up that’s seldom the same for consecutive performances\, each of which might feature a radically different concept and repertoire\, SOTC moves freely yet decisively between jazz improvisations\, dub excursions\, garage-noise freak-outs and lo-fi hip-hop collage\, giving prescience to Hua Hsu’s observation that its music sounds like “field recordings from a vanishing city.” SOTC’s work is deeply wedded to this sense of place. Since they began operating in 2014\, its members\, predominantly Black and Caribbean with Escobar emphasizing his Nuyorican heritage\, have become key representatives of New York’s new inter-borough musical avant-garde\, part of a young creative Blackness vanguard. Just as the collective’s sound is in constant\, determined flux\, so are the mediums through which it’s presented: SOTC’s four albums-cum-mixtapes\, a couple of singles\, and occasional short-run films/video installations\, are as central to the group’s legend as its concerts and happenings\, which can take place in a club or DIY space\, at a museum or an art-house theater\, each carrying its own specificity of liberative intent. The constant in the group’s vision is a cultivation of changing aesthetics using the mindfulness of hip-hop natives\, making historical reappraisals through contemporary lenses\, and filtering both via the dignity of local community values. The reason Standing on the Corner has developed a seemingly wide cast of admirers—from underground jazz experimentalists and popular musicians\, to gallerists and curators—is the group’s clear illustration of these connections as a constant ingredient in the continuum of African Diasporic music. And a renewal of the idea that the “art ensemble” is the best way to get these ideas over. “Que Viva Puerto Rico Libre!” \nThis special iteration of the Off the 405 concert series celebrates Working Together: The Photographers of the Kamoinge Workshop\, an exhibition that chronicles the dynamic creative exchange between a collective of photographers that began operating in 1960’s New York City\, who fused the energy of jazz and improvisation into their stylistically untethered approach to representing the African American experience. \nRead more about Standing on the Corner: “Meet Standing on the Corner\, the Post-Genre Crew Whose Music Speaks a Secret Language\,” Pitchfork. \n\nHours\nMonday: Closed\nTuesday – Saturday: 10:00am – 5:00pm\nSunday: 11:00am – 5:00pm \n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \ngetty.edu/museum/programs/performances/offthe405.html\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:The Venice Oceanarium
DESCRIPTION:SUNDAYS- Venice Beach Pier\nVenice Oceanarium EVERY SUNDAY\, 11am – 2pm. @ Venice Pier. A Museum without Walls teaches kids about Marine Biology & the Santa Monica Bay!  \nOur oceanographic display includes rare specimens\, shark jaws\, and historical artifacts. Be a Citizen Scientist and help us gather ocean data from our water testing kits. Observe grains of sand and seawater samples under our microscopes. Read ocean-inspired poetry\, draw\, and learn about the sea life just beneath the pier. We have new enlightening programs every week. \nThe pier juts 1000 feet out over the open sea\, with saltwater breezes and spectacular coastline views! Besides our marine specimens\, you’ll see migratory birds perched on the pilings\, dolphins\, interesting catches reeled in\, and local surfer species. \n \nThe Venice Oceanarium is a non-profit based in Venice Beach\, California. Just steps away from the world-famous Venice Boardwalk\, there are ecosystems teeming with wildlife waiting to be explored. Since 1995\, countless people have enjoyed our outdoor classrooms through hands-on learning. \nOUR MISSION is to ignite a passion for the abundance\, diversity\, and significance of the web of life in our ocean and its shores. The Venice Oceanarium emphasizes the powerful and enduring emotional and aesthetic influences of the oceans on human culture. \nOUR VISION is to build a permanent exhibit on the Venice Pier that educates and inspires visitors about the unique and wondrous life forms in our local ocean. \n\nAbout Venice Oceanarium\nBack in 1995 our founder\, Tim Rudnick\, organized a weekend-long marathon reading of Moby-Dick at the Venice Beach breakwater. Reliving life aboard a whaling ship and Melville’s soul-searching journey while the group huddled for warmth on the sand was a transformative experience. Tim realized the importance of learning outside of the traditional classroom and founded the Venice Oceanarium\, a Museum Without Walls. \n \nThis concept of blending the arts and sciences is the core of our programming. We believe that our integrative curriculum inspires kids of all ages to be stewards of our precious oceans. \nOver the years we’ve expanded our outreach to include our highly anticipated annual grunion party\, weekly Marine Biology pop-up labs at the end of the Venice Pier\, classes at local schools and youth centers\, tidepool talks\, wetland walks\, and other excursions. \nVenice Beach: An Urban Coastal Park\n \nVenice Beach is a wonderful juxtaposition of urban life and natural wonder. Just steps from the world-famous Venice Beach Boardwalk’s street artists and performers are miles of beautiful shoreline to explore. Wide sandy beaches\, crashing waves\, shells\, seaweed\, birds\, and other wildlife coexist with surfers\, sunbathers\, and sandcastles. \nThe tidepools at the Venice Beach Breakwater are teeming with wildlife (to be enjoyed with your eyes only) as the iconic and colorful Venice graffiti walls loom in the background. There’s a secret reef\, and beautiful wetlands\, and on a clear day\, you can see Malibu and Catalina Island. \nMillions of locals and visitors enjoy our beaches. Few stop to really appreciate the rare treasures it has to offer. Our mission is to excite\, engage and inspire kids of all ages to appreciate our unique urban coast. \nExperiential Learning\n \nThe Venice Oceanarium is a Museum Without Walls. Our programs combine science with the arts to encourage kids (of all ages) to appreciate the environment and therefore become stewards of our oceans. We believe that this integrative curriculum of poetry\, literature\, music\, drawing\, and performance arts teaches by experiencing the world around us on a more profound level than books and classrooms alone provide. \nWe design our events and activities to raise awareness of the natural wonders of Venice Beach. Join us on our learning expedition! \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.veniceoceanarium.org/programs\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
