The land art movement first appeared in the late 1960s and served to challenge the location\, material\, size\, and temporal existence of a work of art. Double Negative consists of two long straight trenches\, 30 feet wide and 50 feet deep\, cut into the “tabletop” of Mormon Mesa\, displacing 240\,000 tons of desert sandstone. The cuts face each other across an indentation in the plateaus’ scalloped perimeter\, forming a continuous image\, a thick linear volume that bridges and combines the “negative” space between them. \nmore info at: Double Negative \n\nAdmission to Double Negative by artist Michael Heizer is always free.\n\nHours\nMonday: 11:00 a.m.-6:00p.m.\nTuesday: Closed\nWednesday: 11:00 a.m.-6:00p.m.\nThursday: 11:00 a.m.-8:00p.m.\nFriday: 11:00 a.m.-6:00p.m.\nSaturday – Sunday: 11:00 a.m.-5:00p.m. \n  \nGeneral Admission: Free\nSpecial exhibitions: $18\nMembers: Free\nChildren under 12: Free\nSeniors and students: $10 \nSpecial exhibitions are free every Thursday\, 5-8pm.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.moca.org\n \n  \n\n\nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:World's Shortest Railway
DESCRIPTION:OPEN EVERYDAY- DTLA- Bunker Hill\nAngels Flight Railway\, the 118-year-old funicular\, which takes passengers on a short ride between Hill Street and Grand Avenue on Bunker Hill. Originally opened in 1901\, Angels Flight® — the world’s shortest railway — has given more than 100 million rides on its hillside track. \n \n  \nIn 2017\, the Angels Flight® Railway Foundation selected the Angels Flight® Development Company\, LLC\, a joint venture led by the ACS Group\, to recondition\, operate\, and maintain the funicular for the next 30 years. Passenger service operations\, subject to occasional closures for maintenance\, recommenced on August 31\, 2017. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Upper Station is located at California Plaza\,\n350 South Grand Avenue\, Los Angeles 90071.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Lower Station is located across from Grand Central Market\nat 351 South Hill Street\, Los Angeles 90013.\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nAngels Flight Railway Hours of Operation\n\nWe are open 365 days a year from 6:45 am – 10pm.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAngels Flight Railway Fare\n\n\nThe fare is $1.00 each way\, and you can purchase a souvenir round-trip ticket for $2.00 to take a piece of history home with you. \nA $0.50 Metro fare discount is available for TAP Card users with Stored Value for a one-way trip. Themes are announced in the weekly newsletter sent every Wednesday\, subscribe here \n \nA few minutes before 9am\, the hike ends at the Bluff\, where you can find restrooms and water fountains.\nAt 9 am\, we will begin the yoga class. \n \nAfterwards\, we take a photo for social media\, join in with your favorite yoga pose of the day!\nIf you decide to post on social media\, please tag us @HiketoYogaLA! \n \nHow much does this cost? \nThis is a community initiative fueled by donations and volunteer hours. Please share your abundance energy with us through donating to our GoFundMe. 100 percent of your donation goes into making these community events accessible to all participants! \nPlease consider joining our VIP Membership Circle to get a Logo Pin (flash your VIP pin to our sign-in team\, no need to sign in more than once!) and exclusive invitations to members-only events. \n \nWhen I enter “Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area” in my GPS\, why does it give me an address on La Cienega? \nThe La Cienega entrance is the official entrance to the park. There is a $7 cash-only parking fee on the weekends. Enter here\, take the road all the way up\, and park by the Burke Roche picnic area/restrooms if you want to ONLY join the 9am yoga. \n \nWhat kind of trail will the group hike?\nThere are many trails up to the yoga location but we plan to have Hike Leaders for our Signature moderate\, nature-full trail with inclines and declines. The trail will take us to up to the Bluff where there are restrooms and water fountains. This 2021 Season we will be debuting the Hummingbird trail (Park to Playa trail + Bowl loop)\, which is more flat and takes you through a beautiful hummingbird garden. Both hikes will be about 40-45 minutes. \n \nWhat if I only want to do the yoga class\, what is the easiest way to get to yoga at 9 am? \nYou can pay $7 cash for parking\, enter at the La Cienega entrance\, and park right by the Burke Roche picnic area/restrooms. Walk about 2 minutes down the Bluff to the 9/11 Memorial Tree. \n \nWho will be teaching the yoga classes? Will the classes be beginner-friendly? \nWe have an awesome team of Hike to Yoga LA Yoga Teachers\, including Hike to Yoga LA Founder\, Laurie\, who enjoys teaching her signature Yoga Wave Circle!\nOur teacher team is diverse in age and body-type\, and are ready to inspire you with community\, nature and of course\, yoga!\nYoga class is 60 minutes long\, starts promptly at 9 am. Please be on time as it is distracting to join when class has already started. \n \nWhat should I bring?\nYour yoga mat\, yoga towel\, beach towel\, or just do yoga on the earth! (Might be wet from morning dew!) It is advisable that you have a mat strap or backpack since you are responsible for your own mat!\nDon’t forget your own reusable water bottle to stay hydrated; there is a water fountain by the Bluff area. \n \nWhat happens after the Hike to Yoga classes? How do I get back to the meeting point? \nThe Park to Playa trail is flat and should take about 15-20 minutes to get back to the Don Lorenzo and La Brea meeting point. \n\nREGISTER ONLINE FOR FREE TICKETS\n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.HiketoYogaLA.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Daisy Lane Parade
DESCRIPTION:THE DAISEY LANE PARADE IS BACK- Long Beach\nThe 67th Annual Daisy Lane Parade returns to the City of Long Beach\, thanks to the efforts of District Councilmember Roberto Uranga\, along with the Wrigley Area Neighborhood Alliance (WANA) and the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association. \nSaturday\, Dec. 11\, from noon to 4 p.m. \nTo ensure the health and safety of all parade participants and viewers\, this year’s parade will include a shortened cavalcade of holiday-decked vehicles and characters that will weave through Wrigley Neighborhood streets\, rather than the traditional march along the grassy Daisy Lane median. The parade will pass through neighborhood streets between Wardlow Road and Pacific Coast Highway on the north and south and Magnolia Avenue and the Los Angeles River on the east and west. Spectators may view the parade from any of these streets\,as the parade will follow the flow of traffic. \n \nThe parade began in 1953 as the brainchild of Gertrude Whittle. She was able to persuade the Long Beach City Council and Council of Churches to help decorate the grass median on Daisy Avenue between Pacific Coast Highway and Willow Street with a Christmas Village and nativity scene. Soon after\, many area residents began decorating their homes and Daisy Lane. As the event grew\, the inclusion of more displays\, entertainment nights\, and a parade have shaped the tradition that we now know! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn 1988\, Maria Norvell and the Wrigley Association began their efforts to revitalize the parade and Daisy Lane decorations. These days\, the parade not only receives support from the City of Long Beach\, but also from its numerous sponsors.\n\n\n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://longbeach.gov/events\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:CHRISTMAS TREE LANE
DESCRIPTION:SANTA ROSA Ave- Altadena\n\n\n\n\n\nChristmas Tree Lane in Altadena\, is a grand\, mile-long driveway of cedars becomes blanketed in lights each holiday as it transforms into Christmas Tree Lane. \nTake a majestic cruise down the hill after it lights up December 11th – January 7th (the 2nd Sat of Dec – 1st Fri of Jan).  Just a heads up: While you may feel inclined to drive through with your headlights off\, that’s full-blown illegal. \nSanta Rosa Ave\, between Woodbury Ave and Altadena Dr (Altadena) \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlanting the Lane\n \nDeodars were introduced in 1883 to Southern California by Altadena founder John P. Woodbury who first saw a stand of the deodars in Italy. \nProclaiming them the most beautiful trees he had ever seen\, he returned with seeds\, and getting assurance from a friend of his at the Department of Agriculture that the trees would do well in California\, had his brother Frederick nurse them at the Altadena ranch. \n\n  \n\n \nIn two years they were transplanted to Santa Rosa Avenue\, which would become a driveway from Pasadena up the near mile stretch to Woodbury’s planned estate. The mansion was never realized\, but the deodar legacy was left and it flourished for over a century to follow. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nChristmas Tree Lane’s First Lighting\nIn 1920 Altadena resident and Pasadena businessman Frederick C. Nash came up with an idea of lighting the trees for the holidays. He sought assistance from his organization The Pasadena Kiwanis Club and from the City of Pasadena to initially light a 1/4 mile section of the roadway. Over the next few years the lighting expanded until the entire row of trees\, 150 in all\, were lighted. The boulevard at that time was referred to as the Avenue of the Deodars. Though many pedestrians would walk along the lighted street\, it was really a spectacle to behold from the seats of slowly passing automobiles. \n  \nThe Lane had its share of postcards which were published internationally\, but after the war many of the cards came up with the caption\, “Christmas Tree Lane.” It is supposed that is where the street actually took its present-day name. \n\n\n\n\nChristmas Tree Lane in Altadena (Santa Rosa Avenue\, between Woodbury Avenue and Altadena Drive) is the oldest large-scale Christmas lighting spectacle in the United States. \nEvery Christmas season for more than 80 years\, the majestic deodars on the “Mile of Christmas Trees” are strung with 10\,000 lights. \nAll this hard work culminates on the second Saturday in December\, when the festive lighting ceremony brings out thousands of revelers from all around the area\, as well as local choirs\, marching bands\, solo performers\, and of course – Santa Claus! \n\n\n\n\n\nHours\nEVERY DAY: Sunset- 12am \nDecember 11 – Jan 5\, 2022 \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nchristmastreelane.net\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
