Borrow for 3 weeks\, with the option to renew\, if available. \nPlease note: Laptop & Hotspot Loan Kits require a full access card to check out. Call your nearest Sidewalk Service location for details about signing up or upgrading your digital card. \nFunding for this project has been provided by the Coronavirus Aid\, Relief\, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1. Who can check out a Chromebook kit?\nAdults with a standard adult library card in good standing will be able to check out a Chromebook kit at a participating library.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2. How do I check out a Chromebook kit?\nRequests for Chromebook kits can be made using our online catalog or over the phone\, like any of our other materials. At this time requests are site-specific and can only be placed at libraries offering the service (listed above). Call a library offering the service to arrange a same-day checkout\, if kits are available.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n3. When can I pick up my Laptop & Hotspot?\nCall the owning library and arrange to pick up your kit during Sidewalk Service hours.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n4. How long can I keep the Laptop & Hotspot Loan? Can I renew?\nThe kits can be borrowed for 3 weeks. If no other customers are on the waiting list\, the checkout can be renewed up to 3 times. The renewal needs to be made before your checkout period ends.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n5. How do I return the Chromebook Kit?\nChromebooks must be returned in person to the owning library during Sidewalk Service hours. They cannot be returned in the bookdrop. They cannot be returned to any library other than the one where the kit was checked out. Please call the owning library to arrange a drop-off time and call again once at the library to alert staff. Staff will bring out a box labeled Laptop Return to the Sidewalk Service table. You’ll be instructed to remove all items – the Chromebook\, the wireless hotspot\, and both charging cables – from the carrying case. Put the case into the box first\, on the bottom\, and then put all other items in on top. Staff will check the box to make sure all items are inside and that they look fine. All items will be quarantined for 4 days and confirmed to be working properly before being checked in. Staff will contact you if there are any questions or concerns. Please remember that the loan will still show on your account until the quarantine and check-in process is complete.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n6. Are there late fees?\nLate fees will be assessed the same as all other library materials. The Chromebook will become disabled once the loan period has ended.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n7. Will I be charged if the Chromebook is damaged while in my possession? How much?\nYes\, fees will depend on the type of damage.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n8. Will my documents stay on the Chromebook after I return it?\nAll documents are deleted once the Chromebook is shut down. This will happen even during your 3-week checkout period\, so we advise you to back up your documents on a flash drive or in Google Docs if you are working on something you want to keep.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n9. What programs will be included on the Chromebook?\n\n\nAdobe Acrobat Reader\nDocuSign\nGoogle Calendar\nGoogle Drive/Docs\nSkype\nWordPress\nInternet\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n10. Does the Chromebook include the internet?\nA wireless hotspot device is included when you check out the Chromebook. This will give you access to the internet.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n11. I don’t have a printer. Can I print things through the library?\nYes\, you can use our Wi-Fi printing service on the borrowed Chromebook and send your documents wirelessly to any library that offers Sidewalk Service.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n12. Will library staff provide an orientation on the technology when I check it out?\nA basic instruction sheet will be provided explaining how to turn on and connect the equipment. If you have further questions\, please call your local library.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n13. I am not good with computers. Will Library staff help me use the Chromebook or answer technical questions?\nLibrary staff is able to provide basic help with your computer—like how to turn it on\, connect the wireless hotspot\, or how to locate programs. For help\, please call your local library.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReceive immediate\, unlimited\, and free access to LA County Library’s online resources\,\nincluding eBooks and audiobooks\, movie and TV streaming\, and music downloads. The museum serves as a gateway to the classical past for students\, scholars\, specialized professionals\, and general audiences. \n\nThe Getty Villa’s Architecture\n\nExplore the groundbreaking architecture of the Getty Center in this 45 minute docent-led tour of the site. \n \n \nGardens are integral to the setting of the Getty Villa\, as they were in the ancient Roman home. Open spaces around the site feature bronze sculptures\, fountains\, and lush plantings of trees\, herbs\, and flowers used by the Romans. DESCRIPTION:EVERY WEDNESDAY at Coffee Bean Culver City\nThe Odd Squad Coffee Cruise meets every Wednesday at the Coffee Bean in Culver City and EVERYONE IS WELCOME !\nStarted in 2012 by Blake Weddington\, The Odd Squad Car Club has always been more about the people and less about the cars.  The club has no dues\, no required attendance and no car criteria other than pre-smog American cars (preferably not muscle cars).  The cars in the club range from fresh paint jobs to rusty rat rods and most are used as daily drivers. \n\nThe Odd Squad Coffee Cruise happens every Wednesday\nand then cruises to a local food spot!  If you are interested in joining the club\, we ask that you come by on Wednesdays and get to know the guys.  Our club has no attitude\, no egos and everyone is treated with respect\, so the worst that will happen is you leave with some new friends. \n\n\n\nLos Angeles is famous worldwide\, for its long love affair with the automobile. These half hour weekly sessions are open to all who are interested in learning how to live more presently in life. Double Negative consists of two long straight trenches\, 30 feet wide and 50 feet deep\, cut into the “tabletop” of Mormon Mesa\, displacing 240\,000 tons of desert sandstone. DESCRIPTION:PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY- PCH\, Malibu\n\n\n\nThe Pepperdine University Waves of Flags display commemorate the lives lost in the terror attacks on September 11\, 2001\, at Alumni Park on the Malibu campus. \nWaves of Flags commemorates the 2\,977 lives lost in the September 11 terror attacks and features a vast display of American flags for each American life lost as well as international flags representing the home countries of those from abroad. Made possible through the support of donors this year\, the installation will be on display at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu Canyon Road \n“Pepperdine has a long tradition of honoring those who have gone before us\,” said Pepperdine president Jim Gash (JD ’93). “For nearly two decades\, this community has paused on this day each year to remember\, to grieve\, and to celebrate the lives of those we lost on that day in 2001.” \nWaves of Flags became a University tradition in 2008 when the Pepperdine College Republicans\, inspired by a similar display\, wanted to bring the tribute to the University. For more than a decade\, it has been a significant project that has united the Pepperdine\, Malibu\, and Greater Los Angeles communities in service. Due to the pandemic\, the installation of the flags\, which is typically led by Pepperdine community members and volunteers from the Malibu community\, was executed by the University this year in consideration of the safety of local and surrounding communities. \nIn addition to the Waves of Flags installation\, Pepperdine is the permanent home of the Thomas E. Burnett\, Jr.\, Heroes Garden\, a place to honor all those who live heroic lives\, including Pepperdine alumnus Thomas E. Burnett\, Jr. (MBA ’95)\, a passenger on United Flight 93\, whose life was cut short in the September 11 attacks. The garden’s plaque reads: “Dedicated to freedom’s heroes of September 11\, 2001\, and the passengers of United Airlines Flight 93\, among them Pepperdine alumnus Thomas E. Burnett\, Jr.\, who sacrificed their lives to overcome terrorists’ intent on destroying American lives and landmarks in our nation’s capital. We shall never forget.” Heroes Garden is currently closed to the public\, along with the rest of the Pepperdine campus. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nA service to honor those who perished in the historic tragedy\, is traditionally held each year\, on September 11. It is located between BIG 5\, DSW & Wells Fargo \nBut everyone seems to know each other.  And they’re all super-friendly.  As well as ready to talk cars well past the 10 AM cut-off. \nSo\, the location is a strip mall at the corner of Hawthorne and Artesia.  And it’s technically in Torrance.  But it’s right on the border of Redondo Beach. \nThere was a Starbucks in the strip mall.
