SUMMARY:Cars and Coffee Los Angeles
DESCRIPTION:LAST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH- Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round Lot \nCars & Coffee Los Angeles is a Classic Car Show held at the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round Lot #1\, located at 4730 Crystal Springs Dr\, Los Angeles\, CA 90027. The Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round is a nostalgia-inducing gem that\, much like Disneyland\, is still enjoyed by the young and the young-at-heart decades after its inception. The small carousel\, which is tucked away into a quiet corner of the park\, served as Walt Disney’s inspiration for Disneyland. When his children were young\, Walt\, a Los Feliz denizen\, took them to the merry-go-round on weekends. During one visit\, while sitting on a bench watching his kids circle round and round\, he was inspired to create a large scale gathering site that the whole family could enjoy. His dream was realized on July 17\, 1955\, when Disneyland opened to the public. \n \n  \nClassic Car Show with a little coffee and some amazing automobiles\nLast Sunday of every month\n  \n \nCars & Coffee Los Angeles was founded to bring together like-minded automotive\, photography\, and design enthusiasts. The events are very chill and welcoming to all car sorts. Our core group of regulars is composed of area locals who aren’t shy about sharing the neighborhood’s rich history. As always\, we ask all attending to respect the location and surrounding area from excessive noise. Hope to see you soon. \n  \n \nHours\nLast Sunday of Every Month: 11:00 a.m.-5:00p.m.\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttp://carsandcoffeela.com/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:The Broad Museum
DESCRIPTION:FREE TUE – SUN- Bunker Hill\, DTLA\n\n\n\n\nThe Broad museum presents an in-depth installation of Roy Lichtenstein\, opening May 26\, 2021\, features 22 artworks\, with nearly half on view for the first time\, including Purist Still Life (1975)\, Female Figure (1979)\, Two Paintings: Radiator and Folded Sheets (1984)\, and Nude with Pyramid (1994). \nAn outcome of sustained and ongoing engagement with artists and artwork\, the Broad collection is distinctive in its exceptional dedication to the full arc of artists’ careers. The Broad has highlighted this depth through expansive presentations in the third floor galleries\, featuring Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Roy Lichtenstein\, Kara Walker\, Andy Warhol\, and Christopher Wool\, along with works by many others. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom the curators\n\n\n\nRead extended content on Lichtenstein’s works in our mobile museum guide: mobile.thebroad.org/artistguides \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHighlighted Artwork\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPurist Still Life\n\nRoy Lichtenstein\n\n\n1975\n\n\noil and Magna on canvas\n\n\n70 x 80 in. Grand Avenue\, Los Angeles\, CA 90012\nThe Broad makes its collection of contemporary art from the 1950s to the present accessible to the widest possible audience by presenting exhibitions and operating a lending program to art museums and galleries worldwide. \nBy actively building a dynamic collection that features in-depth representations of influential contemporary artists and by advancing education and engagement through exhibitions and diverse public programming\, the museum enriches\, provokes\, inspires\, and fosters appreciation of art of our time. \n \nThe Broad was founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler\, the museum offers free general admission and presents an active program of rotating temporary exhibitions and innovative audience engagement. The Broad is home to 2\,000 works of art in the Broad collection\, which is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. \n  \n \nThe Broad from Home\nThe Broad is committed to inspiring and fostering an appreciation of contemporary art through our digital initiatives. Experience #TheBroadFromHome to find inspiration through music\, poetry\, performance\, workshops\, and conversations centered around the Broad collection. \nOverview \nPerformances \nTalks & Conversations \nArtist Spotlight \nFamily Art Workshops \nMore Online Programs \n  \nThe Broad Collection\nEli and Edythe Broad have been building their collection of postwar and contemporary art over the last 50 years. With a belief that the greatest art collections are built when the art is being made\, the Broads took to collecting art of their own time. \nThe Broad is home to 2\,000 works in the Broad collection by more than 200 artists\, and is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. The collection features in-depth holdings of influential contemporary artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Mark Bradford\, Jasper Johns\, Jeff Koons\, Barbara Kruger\, Yayoi Kusama\, Kerry James Marshall\, Julie Mehretu\, Takashi Murakami\, Robert Rauschenberg\, Ed Ruscha\, Cindy Sherman\, Cy Twombly\, Andy Warhol\, and more\, plus an ever-growing representation of younger artists. \n  \nView Our Collection Here\n \nIn Under the Table\, 1994\, the viewer is both in the world of imaginary giants and in the world of remembered childhood. Fusing Alice in Wonderland with the Duchampian tradition of the readymade\, Artist Robert Therrien constructs a doppelganger from an everyday object\, both displaying his visual wit and actualizing literary or imaginative fantasy in three-dimensional space. The table exudes an extraordinary aura\, compelling one to walk underneath the table and conjuring the physical memory of being under the table of one’s childhood home. Complicated and powerful\, the work offers fresh ideas of what a table\, sculpture\, and memory can mean. \n  \n  \n \nUsing the recognizable form of a balloon twisted into the shape of a dog\, Koons has frozen a moment in time\, exaggerating both scale and material. \nBalloon Dog (Blue) is literal and abstract. When standing close to it\, one’s own distorted reflection bends around smooth pert curves. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission is Free\nAll visitors must reserve timed tickets in advance. Some exhibitions and events carry a separate charge. \n\n\n\n\n\nHours\nMonday: Closed\nTuesday – Wednesday: 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.\nThursday – Friday: 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.\nSaturday: 10:00 a.m.-8:00p.m.\nSunday: 10:00 a.m.-6:00p.m. \n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.thebroad.org\n \n  \nFind more

With a focus on contemporary art made from craft media and processes\, Craft Contemporary presents dynamic exhibitions by established and emerging artists and designers who are often underrepresented in larger art institutions. Craft Contemporary complements these exhibitions with a creative line-up of educational programs\, including hands-on workshops led by professional artists. Craft Contemporary cultivates an environment for people in Los Angeles to deepen their relationship to art\, creativity\, and one another. \n \nOUR HISTORY\n⁣In 2018\, the museum board of trustees voted to change the name of the Craft & Folk Art Museum to Craft Contemporary to best reflect its current mission. The name Craft Contemporary was chosen to emphasize the word ‘craft’ as a verb and a noun—celebrating both the act and outcome of making. Craft Contemporary continues to respect the deep history of the craft field while also looking forward to its bold and exciting future. \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \ncraftcontemporary.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Museum of Contemporary Art
DESCRIPTION:Barbara Kruger\, Untitled (Questions)- DTLA\n\n  \n\n\nMOCA has reinstalled the monumental wall work by Los Angeles–based artist Barbara Kruger (b. New York 1945)\, Untitled (Questions) (1990/2018). The emblematic red\, white\, and blue artwork was originally commissioned by MOCA in 1989 for the exhibition A Forest of Signs: Art in the Crisis of Representation\, and was last installed in 1990 on the south wall of MOCA’s building (now The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA). The work holds an iconic place in the collective memory of Los Angeles’s art community and is considered one of the museum’s curatorial highlights over its forty-year history. \n\nThis iteration is installed on the north facade of The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA\, facing Temple Street and measuring 30 by 191 feet. Asking nine questions including “Who is beyond the law?\,” “Who is bought and sold?\,” and “Who is free to choose?\,” the work points to issues of patriotism\, civic engagement\, and power relations. In connection with the work\, MOCA led a series of voter registration efforts during the 2018 midterms\, and will continue these efforts in advance of the 2020 general election. \n\nThis project was initiated by MOCA Director Klaus Biesenbach and is organized by MOCA Senior Curator Bennett Simpson. \nThis installation of Barbara Kruger’s Untitled (Questions) is generously supported by an anonymous donor. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nONE MUSEUM. TWO LOCATIONS- Free Every Thursday\n\nWelcome to The Museum of Contemporary Art. With two distinct venues—MOCA Grand Avenue and The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA—and Michael Heizer’s seminal artwork Double Negative (1969-70) in the Nevada desert\, we engage audiences through an ambitious program of exhibitions\, educational programs\, and publishing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWelcome to The Museum of Contemporary Art\, Los Angeles\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are contemporary.\nWe question and adapt to the changing definitions of art. \n  \nWe are a museum.\nWe present\, collect\, and interpret the art of our time. \n  \nWe care\nfor the experience of art\, the inevitability of change\, the multiplicity of perspectives\, the urgency of contemporary expression. \n\nWith 2 distinct venues in Los Angeles\n\nMOCA Grand Avenue\n250 South Grand Avenue\nLos Angeles\, CA 90012 \nArchitect Arata Isozaki designed MOCA Grand Avenue in 1986 with classical architecture and Los Angeles popular culture in mind. The land art movement first appeared in the late 1960s and served to challenge the location\, material\, size\, and temporal existence of a work of art. Double Negative consists of two long straight trenches\, 30 feet wide and 50 feet deep\, cut into the “tabletop” of Mormon Mesa\, displacing 240\,000 tons of desert sandstone. The cuts face each other across an indentation in the plateaus’ scalloped perimeter\, forming a continuous image\, a thick linear volume that bridges and combines the “negative” space between them. \nmore info at: Double Negative \n\nAdmission to Double Negative by artist Michael Heizer is always free.\n\nHours\nMonday: 11:00 a.m.-6:00p.m.\nTuesday: Closed\nWednesday: 11:00 a.m.-6:00p.m.\nThursday: 11:00 a.m.-8:00p.m.\nFriday: 11:00 a.m.-6:00p.m.\nSaturday – Sunday: 11:00 a.m.-5:00p.m. \n  \nGeneral Admission: Free\nSpecial exhibitions: $18\nMembers: Free\nChildren under 12: Free\nSeniors and students: $10 \nSpecial exhibitions are free every Thursday\, 5-8pm.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.moca.org\n \n  \n\n\nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

To search for non-Kids titles\, please exit Kanopy Kids. \nAdditionally\, when you are searching for content outside of Kanopy Kids\, you may see some titles that are tagged as Kids titles. Selecting these will automatically enter you into Kanopy Kids. \nI want to use Kanopy Kids but I’m not a member of a library. How can I access?\nYou need to be a member of a participating public library in order to access any of the films on Kanopy. If your library is not currently working with Kanopy\, we encourage you to let them know of your interest! \n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nkanopy.com/signup\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Adidas Runners LA
DESCRIPTION:Free Virtual Runs with Adidas Runners LA\nJoin Adidas Runners LA in FREE virtual running sessions. Adidas Runners is a free running community with daily events from running to strength and nutrition. These sessions are delivered to you via video. \n\n\nBenefits of Virtual Running\n\n\n\nVirtual Running is a social activity that bring new opportunities and experiences that challenge you personally. You’ll find as you complete more virtual runs that the online community of fellow runners is extremely supportive and accepting. Everyone is completing a virtual run for their own unique reason\, their own special cause\, and their own personal accomplishment. And even though the run itself isn’t so much about other people\, that doesn’t mean you can’t do it with a group or some friends. It’s all up to you. That’s the beauty — and the freedom — of a virtual run.\n\n\nVirtual runs are races that can be completed from anywhere in the world. Whether you walk or run doesn’t matter\, and neither does your skill level. If you’re looking to get in shape\, want to up your game with new challenges\, or are just looking for something fun\, virtual races give you the opportunity to nail your goal.\n\n\nAdidas Runners LA Virtual Runs Include;\nFREE Tempo Run\nThe Tempo Run is a moderate sustained effort sandwiched between a warm up and cool down. Tempo Run’s are an effective way of building a runner’s ability to sustain faster speeds over time. \nFREE Long Run\nThe Long Run is measured in distance rather than time. Distance measurement  helps to build a foundation for longer aerobic runs and races. The run is either 4 or 6 miles distances at an easy pace. \nWe participate in  a proper Warm Up with the use of Adidas Running app to monitor our progress. We also\, focus on relaxing at a slower pace while ending with a proper Cool Down. \n\nFREE Virtual Nutrition \nTune in each week to nutrition coach Lottie’s Nutriton Tlks. In this session Lottie will have a different guest each week where they will create a recipe together and discuss topics around fueling plus nutrition. This dynamic conversation will supply useful tips for any athlete who is looking to learn more about nutrition and healthy habits! \nThe video will be posted at 7:00 am. Check website below for more information. \n\n\n\n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/adidasRunnersLA/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Hollywood Cross
DESCRIPTION:The Hollywood Cross\, is better known by it’s official name as the Hollywood Pilgrimage Memorial Monument. And if you’ve ever driven on the 101 freeway through Hollywood\, then you’ve probably have noticed the giant\, illuminated cross on top of a hill just to the north of the Cahuenga exit. \n \nThe Hollywood Cross is a memorial to Christine Stevenson\, a founding member of the Theatre Arts Alliance\, the group who built the Hollywood Bowl. The Alliance began producing plays exclusively with religious themes\, but some members wanted to branch out with some productions of a more secular nature. \n  \n \nMs. Stevenson had no interest in secular productions and in 1920 she built the Pilgrimage Theatre\, named after her new production\, the Pilgrimage Play. \nWhen Stevenson died in 1922\, the Pilgrimage continued to put on the Pilgrimage Play until 1964 when a lawsuit brought the play’s run to its end. This legal action stemmed from concerns about the separation of church and state that came about in 1941\, after the County of Los Angeles was deeded the theatre and the land it was on. \nIn 1976\, The Pilgrimage was renamed John Anson Ford Amphitheater in honor of the former L.A. County Supervisor and today it’s known simply as The Ford. \n  \n \nThe Many Iterations of the Hollywood Cross\nIn 1923\, in honor of Ms. Stevenson\, a giant wooden cross was placed on the hilltop above the Pilgrimage Theater. It was lit up in the evening when her play was being performed in the amphitheater below. \nIn 1993 the current monument — a 32-foot tall memorial of steel and opaque plastic — was put in place and dubbed the Hollywood Pilgrimage Memorial Monument. Two years later\, it was named the Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #617. \n\nHow to get to the Hollywood Cross\nTo visit the Cross from the Ford Theatre\, walk south along Cahuenga Boulevard East. Right before the intersection with Cahuenga Terrace\, on top of a retaining wall\, you’ll see a narrow trail leading up the hill. This isn’t the most obvious of trails\, so you’ll have to look closely. \nThe hike is short\, but the trail is quite steep. The path isn’t well marked or well groomed\, so come prepared with proper shoes. The hike is challenging\, but eventually you will come to the  top of the hill at the base of the Hollywood Cross. From the top of the hill the views are spectacular. \n  \n\nWhere to Park When Hiking to the Hollywood Cross\nThere’s no parking along Cahuenga Boulevard. Find parking on Cahuenga Terrace\, a small side street just to the south of the cross. Or\, depending on the time of day (and if you’re feeling bold)\, you can park in the Ford Theatre’s nearby lot. \nThe Hollywood Cross is now owned by The Church On The Way in Van Nuys\, California. \n\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
