By the end of the 80s\, our Museum was formally organized under the State of California as a not-for-profit public benefit corporation. \nThe Association acquired\, and still maintains\, a space in the LACo Fire Department Headquarters in Los Angeles\, storage units at the Department’s Air facility in Pacoima\, and a large warehouse in South Gate. Around the year 2000\, the Association rented an old auto repair shop from the city of Bellflower\, CA. This facility became the first public face for the Association and allowed us to open to the public for the first time. \nIn July of 2018\, the City of Bellflower became a partner with the Association. The showcase Museum is located on the bottom floor of Bellflower’s MAYNE EVENTS CENTER. The auto body repair building was purchased by The Association the same year and now houses the Los Angeles County Fire Museum’s “The Shop”\, the place where all the hard restoration work is now performed. \nMISSION STATEMENT\n\nCelebrate the history of the American Fire Service and the contributions made to that history by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.\nDocument and present the evolution\, history\, and impact of fire-based Emergency Medical Services.\nAcquire\, preserve\, and present artifacts\, apparatus\, photographs\, and documents\, along with other materials\, which assist in the presentation of our history.\nRestore antique fire apparatus to accurately reflect their respective histories.\n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.lacountyfiremuseum.com/visit-us\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:The Venice Oceanarium
DESCRIPTION:SUNDAYS- Venice Beach Pier\nVenice Oceanarium EVERY SUNDAY\, 11am – 2pm. @ Venice Pier. A Museum without Walls teaches kids about Marine Biology & the Santa Monica Bay!  \nOur oceanographic display includes rare specimens\, shark jaws\, and historical artifacts. Be a Citizen Scientist and help us gather ocean data from our water testing kits. Observe grains of sand and seawater samples under our microscopes. Read ocean-inspired poetry\, draw\, and learn about the sea life just beneath the pier. We have new enlightening programs every week. \nThe pier juts 1000 feet out over the open sea\, with saltwater breezes and spectacular coastline views! Besides our marine specimens\, you’ll see migratory birds perched on the pilings\, dolphins\, interesting catches reeled in\, and local surfer species. \n \nThe Venice Oceanarium is a non-profit based in Venice Beach\, California. Just steps away from the world-famous Venice Boardwalk\, there are ecosystems teeming with wildlife waiting to be explored. Since 1995\, countless people have enjoyed our outdoor classrooms through hands-on learning. \nOUR MISSION is to ignite a passion for the abundance\, diversity\, and significance of the web of life in our ocean and its shores. The Venice Oceanarium emphasizes the powerful and enduring emotional and aesthetic influences of the oceans on human culture. \nOUR VISION is to build a permanent exhibit on the Venice Pier that educates and inspires visitors about the unique and wondrous life forms in our local ocean. \n\nAbout Venice Oceanarium\nBack in 1995 our founder\, Tim Rudnick\, organized a weekend-long marathon reading of Moby-Dick at the Venice Beach breakwater. Reliving life aboard a whaling ship and Melville’s soul-searching journey while the group huddled for warmth on the sand was a transformative experience. Tim realized the importance of learning outside of the traditional classroom and founded the Venice Oceanarium\, a Museum Without Walls. \n \nThis concept of blending the arts and sciences is the core of our programming. We believe that our integrative curriculum inspires kids of all ages to be stewards of our precious oceans. \nOver the years we’ve expanded our outreach to include our highly anticipated annual grunion party\, weekly Marine Biology pop-up labs at the end of the Venice Pier\, classes at local schools and youth centers\, tidepool talks\, wetland walks\, and other excursions. \nVenice Beach: An Urban Coastal Park\n \nVenice Beach is a wonderful juxtaposition of urban life and natural wonder. Just steps from the world-famous Venice Beach Boardwalk’s street artists and performers are miles of beautiful shoreline to explore. Wide sandy beaches\, crashing waves\, shells\, seaweed\, birds\, and other wildlife coexist with surfers\, sunbathers\, and sandcastles. \nThe tidepools at the Venice Beach Breakwater are teeming with wildlife (to be enjoyed with your eyes only) as the iconic and colorful Venice graffiti walls loom in the background. There’s a secret reef\, and beautiful wetlands\, and on a clear day\, you can see Malibu and Catalina Island. \nMillions of locals and visitors enjoy our beaches. Few stop to really appreciate the rare treasures it has to offer. Our mission is to excite\, engage and inspire kids of all ages to appreciate our unique urban coast. \nExperiential Learning\n \nThe Venice Oceanarium is a Museum Without Walls. Our programs combine science with the arts to encourage kids (of all ages) to appreciate the environment and therefore become stewards of our oceans. We believe that this integrative curriculum of poetry\, literature\, music\, drawing\, and performance arts teaches by experiencing the world around us on a more profound level than books and classrooms alone provide. \nWe design our events and activities to raise awareness of the natural wonders of Venice Beach. Join us on our learning expedition! \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.veniceoceanarium.org/programs\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:TODAY @ CAAM
DESCRIPTION:TODAY @ CAAM – Exposition Park\nCAMM is pleased to present \n  \n  \n  \n\n \n600 State Dr\, Los Angeles\, CA 90037\, USA \n\nABOUT CAAM\nThe California African American Museum‘s mission is to research\, collect\, preserve\, and interpret for public enrichment the history\, art\, and culture of African Americans with an emphasis on California and the western United States. \nFounded in 1977\, CAAM has a long and rich history. The first African American museum of art\, history\, and culture fully supported by a state\, CAAM was the direct result of a sustained\, multiyear campaign of activism undertaken by visionary founders and community members. Its creation was an early and tangible recognition by the State of California of the critically important role African Americans have played in the American West’s cultural\, economic\, and political development. \n \nCAAM’s permanent collection consists of over 5\,000 objects ranging from the 1800s to the present. It encompasses paintings\, photographs\, film\, sculpture\, historical documents\, and artifacts\, and it spans nineteenth-century landscape paintings to modern artworks to contemporary mixed-media reflections on cultural and political events. The Museum’s first acquisitions included a bronze bust of civil rights activist Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune by artist Richmond Barthé and a sculpture by artist Maren Hassinger\, then at the start of her career. These laid the perfect groundwork for CAAM’s mandate to assemble a comprehensive\, thoughtful\, and wide-reaching collection. \nCAAM’s deepest holdings include art made or connected to African Americans in California and the western United States. However\, the Museum also has significant works of contemporary art from the African diaspora (including Haiti\, Brazil\, and Jamaica)\, as well as traditional African art from Western\, Central\, and Sub-Saharan Africa. CAAM aims to represent the diverse contributions of African Americans in the United States\, but also to interpret how the past has affected identity in the present. \n \nVISIT\nThe California African American Museum is located in the heart of Los Angeles\, just steps away from USC\, the California Science Center\, and the Natural History Museum. We are accessible by car\, bus\, and Metro rail line. Admission\, exhibitions\, programs\, and events are always free and open to the public. \nDriving and Parking\nIf you are driving\, CAAM is at the corner of Figueroa Street and Exposition Boulevard\, just west of the 110 Freeway. Please note that our parking lot entrance is at 39th and Figueroa Streets. Please put that cross-section into your maps search or GPS device. \nParking in Exposition Park is $15 during the day; $18 after 5 pm. \n \nBus and Rail\nFor directions to get to CAAM via bus or rail\, please visit www.metro.net. \nCAAM and Exposition Park are serviced by the Metro Expo Line in the light rail system. Our station is Expo Park/USC. \nYou can also call for route information and general service questions at 1-800-COMMUTE (1-800-266-6883). \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.eventbrite.com/e/black-history-month\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

The museum’s mission is to further intercultural understanding through the arts of Asia and the Pacific Islands. \nThe museum’s historic building has served as a center for art\, culture\, and learning in Pasadena since its construction in 1924 by pioneering collector and entrepreneur Grace Nicholson (1877-1948) as her residence\, galleries\, and Treasure House/emporium. Ms. Nicholson’s championing of Asian art early in the century set the tone for much of the Pasadena community’s arts-related activities during the ensuing decades. The building also served as the site of the Pasadena Art Museum\, which was renowned for its groundbreaking exhibitions of contemporary art. Pacific Asia Museum combined the spirits of both its predecessors in its focus on the classic and contemporary arts of Asia and the Pacific Islands. In 2013\, the University of Southern California partnered with the museum to form USC Pacific Asia Museum. The affiliation broadened the community that benefits from the museum’s role as a vital resource for education and cultural heritage and expanded the audience’s interest in a dialogue about art\, history\, and culture. \n \nVISION\nUSC PAM is a dynamic and innovative teaching and learning resource for USC and its surrounding communities featuring; \n\nExhibitions that contest worn assumptions\, bridge perspectives\, and expand understanding\nEducational opportunities that connect cultures\, disciplines\, and generations\nPrograms that engage our common life\, even in the absence of common ground\n\nVALUES\nAt USC PAM we believe in the power of art to connect us to our deepest humanity and that of others. \nAs such\, we: \n\nSupport the Mission and Vision of USC.\nEnlist art to expand understanding and bridge divides.\nCollect and exhibit exemplary works that amplify artist voices and lift up community narratives.\nSteward the objects entrusted to our care for the benefit of successive generations.\nUse our resources to inspire a plurality of audiences.\nFoster a sense of community both on and off-campus.\nExplore and validate diversity.\nPromote civil and civic discourse.\nSecure long-term sustainability.\nManage resources prudently.\n\n\nHours\nMonday-Tuesday: Closed\nWednesday – Sunday: 11:00am – 5:00pm \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \npacificasiamuseum.usc.edu/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

The Pack Theater was founded by Miles Stroth (The Family\, Heather & Miles) in 2007 as the Miles Stroth Workshop\, and subsequently evolved into a den of viscerally exciting\, unexpected\, and original comedy. \n \nDuring the Covid-19 pandemic\, The Pack Theater was unable to offer our normal classes which would meet at our theater and class spaces in Hollywood\, CA. As conditions have changed and improved\, we are now once again offering In-Person classes. \nSome classes will still be offered Online. Others will have In-Person options. \nThe 4 week Online classes will require a $50 deposit to reserve your spot\, with the rest due prior to the start of classes.

SUMMARY:UCLA Meteorite Collection
DESCRIPTION:FREE WEEKDAYS- UCLA Westwood Village\nThe UCLA Collection of Meteorites is the largest on the West Coast and contains over 2500 samples from about 1500 different meteorites. It is the fifth largest collection of meteorites in the United States and the second largest housed at a university. \n  \n \nOur collection includes the main masses of about 40 meteorites and the type specimens of more than 300 meteorites collected from hot deserts; 60 of these are iron meteorites. Eighty of these meteorite type specimens are from the state of California. These were collected by local citizens during the past few decades\, mainly from the playas (dry lakes) scattered around the Mojave Desert. \n  \n \nSome of our meteorites are large and well suited for exhibits (in fact\, some of them are exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History). However\, most of the samples are small and mainly of value for research. \n  \n  \n \nThe study of meteorites and the processes that formed them is called cosmochemistry. The cosmochemists at UCLA are among the most productive university researchers in the world. It is thus appropriate that we have one of the best university meteorite collections. \n  \nWe are in the second year of operating a Meteorite Gallery\, located in room 3697 of the Geology Building. Opened in January 2014\, the Gallery is open to the public weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm. CLOSED WEEKENDS. Admission is always free. The current exhibits will gradually expand as funds and additional samples are obtained. For highlights of the Meteorite Gallery please click here. \n  \n  \n \n  \nWe are eager to add meteorites to the UCLA collection. If you have a meteorite collection and are interested in considering a donation\, we would like to hear from you. You can contact us here. \n \nLOCATION\nThe Meteorite Gallery is located in room 3697 of the Geology Building on the UCLA campus. \n595 Charles E. Come enjoy some good music and some fantastic singers! karaoke  10pm-1:45am \n\nThursdays- Rock & Roll\n \nCome for some rock ‘n roll Thursdays with Atara! She happens to be our only girl host\, & is a kick-ass singer.  Too shy to sing alone?  She will sing along with you. Need a partner on a duet? Atara prefers rock\, but  she can sing everything\, ask her to be your partner\, she loves to sing. \n  \nFridays & Saturdays\n\n \nTaurus. What else can I say? \nLooking for a hot spot to host your karaoke birthday party on Saturday night?  The Oaks Tavern is the place in Sherman Oaks!  We have a young lively crowd on Saturdays singing all kinds of fun danceable songs so you can sing along and party with your friends.  KJ Slim (aka Tyler) runs a fun show\, you definitely want to come down and check it out. karaoke  Fridays 9pm-1:45am\, Saturdays 8pm-12:35m \nSunday- King Trivia/ Soul & R&B\n\nLooking for something to do in the Valley on a Sunday? In particular do you want to hang out with friends\, drink and tease your brain with trivia questions?  Do you want to win prizes and bar tabs by using your brain to show us how smart you are? Well… Trivia is so busy on Wednesday\, we added a second night of team trivia on Sunday!  So if you are looking for something to do in the Valley on a Sunday night\, look no further. Sunday night team trivia is so much fun! Start off your Sunday night or end your Sunday Funday here.    It’s fun\, with just enough random questions to give it the right amount of challenge.  Teams play for $30\, $20\, and $10 bar tabs\, plus give aways between rounds.  Don’t miss out!  Sunday night Karaoke starts right afterward so you can sing your little heart out. If you have a softball team\, trivia team\, soccer team\, any team\, just come down with them\, trust me it’s so much fun!  Hosted by your favorite gal on the mic\, Rebekah Fear. \n  \n\nYou might know King Orr as a local karaoke celebrity\, because he’s been running Sunday night karaoke at The Good Nite for years! Since the change in ownership there\, he has parted ways with his longtime bar and we are lucky enough to get him at The Oaks for karaoke on Sunday Nights. King likes to play a mix of hip hop\, soul\, and R&B\, but it’s not exclusive\, “sing whatever is on your soul” on Sundays. \n  \n\nPool Table Open Sun-Thurs 4pm-close\nFri & Sat 4-8pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\nyou must WEAR A MASK FOR ENTRY\,\nBUT YOU CAN TAKE IT OFF ONCE YOU’VE ORDERED A DRINK. \n\nVACCINE CARDS WILL BE REQUIRED FOR INDOOR DINING AND KARAOKE STARTING NOVEMBER 4TH. \n\n\nHours\n\nSunday: 9:30am-2:00am\nMonday – Friday: 5:00pm-2:00am\nSaturday: 1:00pm-2:00am\n\n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.theoakstavern.com/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

You can find our full review of Pluto TV HERE. \n  \n \nWhat is Pluto TV? \nWell let’s see. We could pen a historical essay about our 2013 origins. \n \nWe could toss around numbers like 100s of channels\, 200+ content partners\, and 26+ million viewers. We could even drone on about our huge library of on-demand content which spans across all genres of movies\, news\, TV shows\, sports\, documentaries\, and blah blah blahhh… \nBut why complicate things when Pluto TV is\, at its core\, really simple? \nAll you really need to know is… it’s free of passwords\, it’s free of payments\, and it’s free of all those Friday night spats about what to watch. \nPluto TV is a free live-stream television and on-demand video service from ViacomCBS. \n  \n\n\n\nSo just lean back. Drop in and enjoy the show. It’s free.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat will I Find on Pluto TV?\n\n\nLIVE TV\n\n\n\n\nBlockbuster Movies\n \nComedy\n \nCult Classics\n \n\nKids & Family Friendly Programing \n\n\nSports\n \nNews\n\n\nLatino\n \n\n\nWatch on your \nSmart TV\, Streaming Devices\, Mobile App\, Desktop App or Watch On The Web\n\n\n \n\nOwned by ViacomCBS\, Pluto TV is a live-TV streaming service\, not entirely unlike Sling TV and such competitors as DirecTV Now\, Hulu+ Live TV\, or other similar services. But unlike those services which offer streaming access to channels you’d find on cable TV\, Pluto TV offers free content mainly curated from what’s already available online. Pluto TV launched in 2014 and picked up steam fairly quickly making it the largest free TV streaming service in the U.S. \nYou’re not going to find standard TV channels\, though some are represented via their web counterparts\, especially news outlets. Those include familiar names like Bloomberg\, Cheddar\, CNBC\, MSNBC\, CBSN\, and many others. As of April 2019\, it also includes CNN\, though not the full\, live CNN you get on cable. Instead\, the CNN channel features a curated playlist of short-form digital content from CNN’s anchors and reporters. Featured clips are oriented toward lifestyle and culture\, climate change\, the environment\, and original CNN investigations and interviews. A similar channel for NBC called NBC News Now arrived in February 2020. Other recent additions to Pluto include CMT\, Kevin Hart’s Laugh out Loud\, and Red Bull TV\, plus a handful of new themed channels in Celebrity\, Reality\, and Lives\, the perfect cocktail for pop culture and reality TV enthusiasts. \nSports coverage is less conventional — you’re not going to find the likes of ESPN here. Instead\, you’ll find choices like Fight\, World Poker Tour\, Impact Wrestling\, a dedicated Sports News network\, Glory Kickboxing\, and the Big Sky Network. DAZN recently signed a deal to provide an original weekly series on Pluto TV\, and there’s potential for that partnership to expand down the line. Pluto has recently added an official PGA Tour channel with 24/7 coverage of one of golf’s biggest tournaments. \nIn the Entertainment section\, there are reruns of reality and documentary shows alongside episodes of Dennis the Menace\, Thunderbirds\, and other older TV shows. Among those various channels\, you’ll also find Wipeout\, a network that only shows reruns of the popular game show and various iterations from different countries\, as well as Nosey\, which shows reruns of The Jerry Springer Show and The Maury Show\, among others. Meanwhile\, the Curiosity section features Science TV\, Docu TV\, Xive TV\, and even a NASA live stream. New additions include Pluto TV Sitcoms\, offering a selection of older comedies like 3rd Rock from the Sun and The Lucy Show\, and a Spanish-language channel called Pluto TV Cine. \n  \n\nFor additional information\, visit the Pluto TV website @ \npluto.tv\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n
