In Buddhist and Hindu teachings\, the Graveyard\, or Charnal grounds\, is a favored place of practice where yogis must confront our mortal destiny\, our fear of death\, and our aversion to impermanence. \n  \n \nIn the Summer of 2020\, as our favorite indoor Yoga studios were forced to close and we found ourselves less compliant in ZOOM classes\, a few of us started coming to Hollywood Forever to practice safely together in the mornings. \nWe are now honored to offer this experience to all yogis\, from beginners to advanced\, looking to deepen their practice in a safe outdoor setting with green grass and quacking ducks. \nWe practice on the Hollywood Forever Cemetery Fairbanks Lawn\, where Cinespia movies are screened\, so there is ample space to spread out and safely distance as you enrich your practice with our sangha community. \n \nAttendance Tips:Cost: Donation based \nParking: FREE! Check the weapon class page for regulations to make sure the hilt you purchase is Lightspeed legal. \nNote that you do not need a Lightspeed blade to start practicing moves. You only need one once you begin competing. The standard blade that comes with your purchase should be fine for the time being. \n  \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSTEP 4 – LEARN BASIC MOVES AND CONCEPTS\nWe have tons of free information available for Lightspeed Saber fencing. But if you’re practicing alone\, you may want to learn our sequences. This is a growing library of technical exercises that help you fine tune your technique without a partner. You can do this on your own and evaluate yourself\, or you can enroll in our program\, where we’ll evaluate you to make sure you’re doing everything right. You can even get certified to evaluate others. \n  \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSTEP 5 – GET EQUIPMENT\nTo do Lightspeed Saber fencing you need to be properly equipped. This activity is dangerous. In September\, 2014; “Exodus\,” a photographic exhibition of the work of Julian Cardona documented the forced modern-day exodus of people from Mexico to the US. \nLa Plaza  The current home of La Plaza United Methodist Church was built in 1926. When the state of California declared the La Plaza area a historic monument\, the Cal-Pac United Methodist Conference was forced to give up the church and the adjoining conference center through threat of eminent domain. The Conference moved its offices to Pasadena\, but the church remained\, with a 50 year lease at a $1 per year. \nThe Urban Foundation’s role  In the 1990‘s\, the city of Los Angeles took over the historic El Pueblo monument from the state\, and negotiations for a new church lease in 2002 were unsuccessful. In 2010\, the “La Plaza initiative\,” a program of the Urban Foundation and the United Methodist Cal-Pac Conference\, was founded and charged with negotiating a new lease. When the City of Los Angeles resisted negotiating in good faith\, the La Plaza congregation\, under the direction of founding museum director\, Leonora Barron\, led a series of protests and prayer services on the steps of City hall. After a year long struggle\, a fair agreement was reached. Meet at the East Trailhead Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area to check-in and meet your Hike Leader! \n  \n \n9 AM: YOGA \nMeet at the 9/11 Memorial Tree at the Bluff (nearby the Burke Roche picnic area/Restrooms) \nThe yoga is fun and BEGINNER-friendly! \nFrequently Asked Questions\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow does this work? \nMeet at 8am at the East Trailhead of Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area\, which is at Don Lorenzo and La Brea. \nIf you intend on meeting for the hike\, route your car to “Don Lorenzo and La Brea.” There is street parking and other park lots nearby. You will need to cross the street and take the steps up to the East Trailhead map sign. \n​ \nUpon arrival\, each participant signs the liability form and the roster. \nYou will have the choice to join a Hike Leader to have a “respectful-distanced” mindful hike experience\, or you may take a self-guided hike. Your Hike Leader will hold space for introductions and mindful pauses during your hike towards the yoga location. Be prepared to say your name\, where you reside\, and your take on the theme of the week. The trail will take us to up to the Bluff where there are restrooms and water fountains. This 2021 Season we will be debuting the Hummingbird trail (Park to Playa trail + Bowl loop)\, which is more flat and takes you through a beautiful hummingbird garden. Both hikes will be about 40-45 minutes. \n​ \nWhat if I only want to do the yoga class\, what is the easiest way to get to yoga at 9 am? \nYou can pay $7 cash for parking\, enter at the La Cienega entrance\, and park right by the Burke Roche picnic area/restrooms. Walk about 2 minutes down the Bluff to the 9/11 Memorial Tree. \n​ \nWho will be teaching the yoga classes? Will the classes be beginner-friendly? \nWe have an awesome team of Hike to Yoga LA Yoga Teachers\, including Hike to Yoga LA Founder\, Laurie\, who enjoys teaching her signature Yoga Wave Circle!\nOur teacher team is diverse in age and body-type\, and are ready to inspire you with community\, nature and of course\, yoga!\nYoga class is 60 minutes long\, starts promptly at 9 am. The outdoor market experience is kid and pet-friendly and offers free entry to Lennox and Inglewood locals. \nAs the market continues to expand\, so does the list of small business vendors that change with each event. Visitors can shop at various business stands ranging from regional Mexican and Central American dishes\, non-alcoholic drinks\, desserts\, homemade candy\, accessories\, and locally designed custom apparel. The food selection throughout the market includes options from the mariscos restaurant\, tacos\, hot dogs\, mini-pancakes\, and the parking lot often shares the space with local food trucks.
