SUMMARY:Graham Garden
DESCRIPTION:OPEN EVERY DAY- DTLA Wells Fargo Center\n \nGraham Garden integrates Fountain Figures I-IV\, a collection of graceful sculptures created by late Los Angeles artist Robert Graham\, in a newly designed outdoor plaza at Halo. For over fifty years\, Robert Graham’s observation of the female form and use of scale allowed him to explore and create a range of intimate sized works and large public monuments\, widely celebrated for their precise iconic detail. \nThe sculptures were originally part of CRA/LA’s mission in 1985 to incorporate public art in redevelopment projects and revitalize Downtown Los Angeles. The four sculptures are currently situated in an exterior landscaped setting that Graham’s son\, Steven Graham\, consulted on as part of the renovation at Wells Fargo Center. \n  \n \nRobert Graham\, was a Mexican born sculptor\, and although you may not be familiar with his name\, you probably ARE familiar with some of his work. Graham’s monumental bronzes commemorate the human figure\, and are featured in 11 public places in and around the city of Angels. Including; The Olympic Gateway at the Memorial Coliseum\, The Torso at Rodeo Drive\, The Great Bronze Doors and Statue of Mary at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels\, and The Dance Door – Los Angeles Music Center \n  \n \nAnd now\, you can see his latest collection. The Robert Graham Sculpture Garden gracefully nestled in the newly designed outdoor plaza at Halo\, at Wells Fargo Center. \nThis collection is a unique addition\, to the Olympic Celebration\, coming to LA in 2028\, The collection of four bronze fountain figures\, was inspired by gymnastic athleticism\, strength\, and beauty. Fountain waters flow over bronze and granite pedestals into a shallow reflecting pools\, which are integrated into the Halo’s landscape. \nYou will find the Robert Graham Sculpture Garden at the very top of Bunker Hill\, in DTLA at 330 S Hope St between Hope and Grand. \n  \nGraham Garden are open 24/7\nThe Graham Sculpture Garden is within walking distance of MOCA\, The Broad\, The Walt Disney Concert Hall\, The Music Center\, Grand Park\, Angels Flight and Grand Central Market. SUMMARY:JULY IS FREE SLURPEE DAY@ 7-11
DESCRIPTION:EXTENDED TO EVERY DAY IN JULY 2021- All Participating 7-11’s\n\n\n\n\n7-Eleven’s Free Slurpee Day is back and better than ever. \nNormally\, the convenience store hands out free Slurpees on its birthday (July 11)\, but this year\, it’s giving shoppers the chance to cash in on the sweet offer at any point during the month of July. \n7-Eleven’s 94th birthday celebration kicks off on July 1\, when the store’s 7Rewards app members will receive one free small Slurpee drink coupon in their account. There are plenty of flavors to choose from\, including the classics and a range of summer specials like VitaminWater Zero Sugar Gutsy (Watermelon Peach)\, Pineapple Whip and Blueberry Lemonade. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen is Free Slurpee Day this Year?\nNational Free Slurpee Day aways on July 11.  Get it?  7-11\,  7/11/2021 \n  \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHistory of National Free Slurpee Day\n7-Eleven began celebrating the day back in 2002\, but the beloved frozen treat has been around since the late 1950’s. With more than 300 flavors —ranging from sweet (Vanilla\, 7-Elemon)\, to sour (Warhead\, Sour Apple)\, to the exotic (Mango\, Lychee)— there’s a Slurpee for every palette. \n  \n \nThe Slurpee\, created by Omar Knedlik\, was first known by the name ICEE. Like many great inventions\, it was discovered purely on accident. Knedlick got the idea after one of his soda fountains broke down\, forcing him to put his sodas in the freezer to keep cool. The resulting soda slush was a hit with Knedlick’s customers prompting him to create a machine that would freeze carbonated drinks. \nRealizing the success of the ICEE\, 7-Eleven made a licensing deal with Knedlick in 1965 to sell the product under a different name; one that would only be sold in its stores. In 1966\, the Slurpee was officially born. The name was coined by an advertising executive referencing the sound made when drinking it. \nBy the spring of 1967\, every 7-Eleven store in the country had a Slurpee machine. To fuel the rising Slurpee fanfare\, 7-Eleven would introduce eye-catching —if not\, risqué— names for its new flavors. Novelty names like Pink Fink\, Moonshine\, Sticky Icky\, Gully Washer\, and Adults Only were added to the growing list of flavors. \nOn July 11\, 2002\, 7-Eleven celebrated its 75th birthday by giving customers a free Slurpee\, marking the first official National Free Slurpee Day. \nAs the name of the day implies\, you go to a participating 7-Eleven\, between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.\, and receive a free\, 12-ounce Slurpee (while supplies last). Get there early since everyone in the know will undoubtedly want a free Slurpee\, too. We’re not suggesting you camp outside a 7-Eleven\, but do you really want to miss out on a FREE Slurpee? \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.7-eleven.com/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:LONG BEACH MUSEUM OF ART

In 1957\, the Anderson House was designated as the Long Beach Museum of Art\, at which time the Museum began acquiring a permanent collection.\nIn 1977\, the Museum was honored with accreditation by the American Association of Museums\, which it has since maintained. Since 1986\, the Long Beach Museum of Art Foundation has managed the Museum\, governed by a Board of Trustees. In 2000\, the Museum completed a restoration of the historic residence and constructed a new two-story exhibition pavilion (in 2015 the pavilion was renamed the Hartman Pavilion). Since then\, the Museum has offered diverse and compelling exhibitions\, which has resulted in increased visitors and program attendance. \n  \n \nThe Museum’s permanent collection is diverse with more than 3\,200 works encompassing 300 years of American and European art in all media. The land art movement first appeared in the late 1960s and served to challenge the location\, material\, size\, and temporal existence of a work of art. Double Negative consists of two long straight trenches\, 30 feet wide and 50 feet deep\, cut into the “tabletop” of Mormon Mesa\, displacing 240\,000 tons of desert sandstone. The cuts face each other across an indentation in the plateaus’ scalloped perimeter\, forming a continuous image\, a thick linear volume that bridges and combines the “negative” space between them. \nmore info at: Double Negative \n\nAdmission to Double Negative by artist Michael Heizer is always free.\n\nHours\nMonday: 11:00 a.m.-6:00p.m.\nTuesday: Closed\nWednesday: 11:00 a.m.-6:00p.m.\nThursday: 11:00 a.m.-8:00p.m.\nFriday: 11:00 a.m.-6:00p.m.\nSaturday – Sunday: 11:00 a.m.-5:00p.m. \n  \nGeneral Admission: Free\nSpecial exhibitions: $18\nMembers: Free\nChildren under 12: Free\nSeniors and students: $10 \nSpecial exhibitions are free every Thursday\, 5-8pm.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.moca.org\n \n  \n\n\nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:TAKE A STROLL THRU HISTORY
DESCRIPTION:THE HISTORIC VENICE CANALS DISTRICT- in Venice Beach\nThe Venice Canals is a historical district in the Venice section of Los Angeles\, California. Nestled between Abbot Kinney Blvd and the Beach\, this area is the location of the last remaining canals which once were the heart of Venice Beach\, California. \n  \nTo find The Historic Venice Canals District \nStart at the Venice Pier. Walk down Washington Blvd\, 1 block past Pacific to the north side bridge\, just before Baja Cantina. You’l find entrances to the walk paths on both sides of the canal. \n  \nAbbot Kinney\nThe Venice Canals began as a dream of one man\, tobacco millionaire\, Abbot Kinney. Kinney had done a walking tour of Italy and was absolutely overcome by the beauty of the canals of Venice. That experience lead Kinney to the grand idea\, to take part of the Coastal Wetlands of Los Angeles\, and turn them  into what he called “Venice of America\,” a luxurious seaside resort that brought a taste of Italy to L. A. \n  \n \nIn 1905 the canals opened to the public and at first\, these canals were all the rage\, a cultural mecca and massive playground complete Amusements\, train rides and every kind of distraction. Beautiful walkways were lined with flowers. Gondoliers took lovers on romantic adventures through the canals and beneath the  beautifully lit bridges. But invention of the automobile\, and the discovery of oil along the coast\, quickly led the City of Los Angeles to fill in most of the canals and build city streets. Although a few of the canals were spared\, Abbot Kinney’s dream soon deteriorated and began attracting crime. \n  \n \nFinally\, after more than 40 years of unsavory residents\, and environmental concerns\, in 1992\, the City restored the canals to their original spender\, and since\, Venice has  become a safe haven of artists of all kinds and everyone and anyone was welcome\, Anyone who could afford it\, that is.   Average home sales are now in the 3-10 million dollar range. \nAlthough\, much of Venice is gone\, much still remains. You just need to know where to look. \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nvisitveniceca.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Homeschooling Made Easy
DESCRIPTION:ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA ONLINE Free With Your Library Card\nWelcome to Britannica School\, a safe\, up-to-date\, and age-appropriate information resource for Elementary\, Middle\, and High School. Discover encyclopedia articles\, multimedia\, primary sources\, games\, and other learning resources that support student research and reinforce curriculum standards. \n\n\n\n\n\nSIGN ON HERE WITH YOUR LOS ANGELES PUBLIC LIBRARY CARD\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n \n  \n  \n\n  \n\nAge-appropriate for K-12\n\n\nBritannica School offers age-appropriate resources at 4 levels\, the Learning Zone for early learners and elementary\, middle and high school levels. \n\n  \n\n\n \nElementary\nSelect Elementary learning and begin your adventure looking for people\, places\, and things. Watch and learn with videos and animations. Have fun with games and activities. \n  \n \nMiddle & School Versions Grow as they do\nMany online products offer multiple levels for different ages\, but often struggling readers are reluctant to move to a lower level because the interface and experience are designed for younger students. With Britannica School\, content is available at all three reading levels and students can move quickly from one level to another without changing the look and feel of the site. Content and Interface work together to give the user an experience tailored to their needs. For example\, if elementary students move to a level with more advanced content\, their interface becomes more advanced as well; but middle and high school students stay in their more advanced interfaces\, even if they choose level 1. \n  \n  \n \nFor Educators and Home School Teachers\n\n\nOur biggest users tell us that students\, teachers and librarians all want to go beyond looking up content. You want to filter\, tag favorites\, adjust reading levels\, share content\, and serendipitously discover new and related ideas. \nWith Britannica School\, educators can map text and multimedia to classroom activities on the fly and even toggle within an article to see the State and Common Core standards associated with it. Teachers can create\, save and share lesson plans using the new lesson plan builder. They can map Britannica content\, define steps and activities\, select materials and share their ideas with other teachers. They can also access and review plans created by other teachers. \n\n\n\nBritannica School’s ESL/ELL Support\n\n\nEnglish language learners may choose to have articles read aloud with each word highlighted as it is read to increase comprehension. \nOther tools are built in for support as well including the Quick Click dictionary that provides definitions and audio pronunciations right when the reader needs them without leaving the article. \nBritannica School also offers multiple translation tools with an emphasis on Spanish-English translation but with more than 50 world languages available. \n\n\nUse Anywhere\nBritannica School is accessible at school\, home or anywhere you have an internet connection. Britannica School is designed to fit to any device—you can access content on a computer\, tablet\, or even a phone\, and Britannica School’s design will fit your screen. \n\n \n  \n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nbritannica.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Pacific Palisades 4th of July Parade and Fireworks
DESCRIPTION:ALL DAY CELEBRATION- Pacific Palisades\nThe Palisades Americanism Parade Association presents the Diamond Anniversary of the Palisades July 4th Parade in 2023. It’s never too early to donate now or sign-up to volunteer for the 75th annual Parade. \n \nTHE PARADE- 2:00pm\nIn 1948\, Harry Truman was President\, a gallon of gas cost 16 cents\, and the Pacific Palisades Parade had its debut. The Diamond Anniversary of the Palisades July 4th Parade will be held on July 4\, 2023\, starting at 2:00 p.m. on our traditional parade route through the Pacific Palisades business district. All of your favorites will be back this year: Kids on Bikes\, Patriotic Pups\, Palisades performing groups and our Palisades service organizations. More Details coming soon! \n \n  \n \nKids on Bikes\nThis Independence Day\, The Yogurt Shoppe will continue its decade-long tradition of sponsoring the “Kids on Bikes” unit in the July 4th parade and the “Best Decorated Bike/Scooter Contest” for local Palisades kids. \nParticipants are encouraged to decorate their bikes and come to the parade assembly point for “Kids on Bikes” at 1 pm on July 4th for the opportunity to enter the Best Decorated Bike/Scooter Contest. \nAll judging will take place at 1:30 pm at the parade start location (in front of Pali Elementary at the corner of Bowdoin and Via de la Paz). Four lucky winners will earn a $50 gift card valid at any TYS store\, and have their photos taken before riding in the parade! \nPlease print\, fill in and sign the Participant Waiver and bring it to parade line-up area\, and join the rest of the Kids on Bikes/Scooters for a fun time! \nThe Yogurt Shoppe and parade organizers would love to document this exciting event. Participants should come with a parent or guardian\, who will need to sign a participation form on their behalf and accompany them along the parade route. (This is not a drop-off activity.) Water bottles are recommended\, and bike helmets are required. Kids and their guardians/parents may leave the parade at any time along the route. \nTo ensure everyone’s safety\, we ask that the “Kids on Bikes” and their parents/guardians mingle and ride with their fellow Palisadians in a manner that reflects their awareness of those around them – both on and off the parade route – and at a safe rate of speed. The Kids on Bikes participants and their guardians/parents will be directed to go to the Palisades branch of the public library (861 Alma Real Drive) at the end of the parade route\, to meet up with members of their family not participating in the parade with them. \n  \n \nPatriotic Pups- meet between 1:00 and 1:45 at Palisades Elementary School\nThe Patriotic Pups of Pacific Palisades are ready for their 29th annual march in the July 4th parade. Each pup will receive a bandana\, water\, collapsible water bowl and poop bags from our sponsor\, Paws ‘N’ Claws who will be coordinating and leading the Patriotic Pups unit. \nPups will need to be leashed at all times in the Parade\, including in the assembly area\, and should be well behaved and comfortable in crowds and in the company of other pups\, cars\, horses and people. \nAll Patriotic Pups are asked to meet between 1:00 and 1:45 at Palisades Elementary School on the corner of Via de la Paws and BowWowdoin. We urge you to bring water for you and your pup. Some pups like to wear socks if the pavement is hot. You/your pup may leave the parade at any time along the route. \nYou will be asked to sign a participant form before marching. If you want to print\, sign and bring it with you\, click here. \nTo ensure everyone’s safety – both on and off the parade route\, we ask that the Patriotic Pups’ pet guardians supervise them at all times and clean up after them\, as needed. \nWe look forward to seeing you and your pup on the 4th. Pet guardians are encouraged to take pictures of their pups in the parade and tag #palisades4thpatrioticpups and #PalisadesJuly4. \n \nPatriotic Home Contest\nSponsoring this year’s July 4th Home Decorating Contest is local real estate legend Susan Montgomery.
