NoHo Summer Nights runs on Saturday nights at the corner of Magnolia and Tujunga\, next to the Amelia Earhart Library. Food will be available for purchase on-site\, and guests are welcome to check out a variety of interactive art booths. Admission is FREE. For over 30 years they have played their brand of Latin blues\, roots\, soul\, and reggae together as a family and have been a featured act in the Ventura County Blues Society’s Blues festivals\, the 40th Anniversary of Santa Barbara’s Blues Society concert and more. \nSWEET SEASONS\, A Tribute to Carole King – July 30\n \nSweet Seasons is a tribute to the legendary Carole King. There have been few singer/songwriters that have been as prolific and impactful as Carole King. Driven by an intense love and admiration for Carole’s music\, seasoned tribute artist Carla Buffa felt compelled to assemble an excellent group of musicians to pay homage to King’s legend with a show that includes all of the chart-topping hits that you’ve come to know and love over the years. Buffa is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist who has been a professional musician\, performing nationally and internationally for over 30 years. \nBEACH ST. A GO GO – August 6\n \nThis six-person family-friendly event band located out of Valley Village\, California has a big sound\, made up of professional hard-working musicians who all have many years of entertainment experience under their belts. Founded in 2011 in Palm Coast\, Florida by male lead singer and rhythm guitarist TJ Rosenman\, BEACH St. A Go Go! A Tribute To The Groovy Sounds Of The ’60s…LIVE! has entertained thousands of people at festivals\, concerts\, city\, and corporate events\, private functions\, social clubs\, car shows\, nightclubs\, and more. \nVOPA ROCKS: Classic Rock – August 13\n \nThe birth of Valley Opera & Performing Arts (VOPA) has been a long time coming. After nearly fifteen years of creating glorious music and theater as Center Stage Opera\, we decided that our company name should reflect all the musical genres we encompass: Opera\, Musical Theater\, Jazz\, and even Rock ‘n Roll. We are most definitely still an opera company\, and we remain committed to filling the need for classical vocal arts in the community. However\, our love for music and theater extends beyond the classical arts into other musical genres as well. \n\nNOHO DO’S AND DONT’S\nFor your comfort\, you may bring blankets\, low chairs (under 3 ft. in height)\, tarps\, and pillows. Canopies\, umbrellas\, or EZ-ups are permitted UNTIL the concert starts. Once the announcements begin\, you must take these items down. You may NOT use stakes to keep your blankets in place as they are a safety hazard. There are to be no grills or open flames of any kind in the park. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are permitted. Please keep animals tethered and respect your neighbors by being mindful of your space and the view of others. \n\nABOUT VALLEY CULTURAL FOUNDATION\nOur Mission\nValley Cultural Foundation embraces the diversity of talent\, community\, business\, and education\, by providing live entertainment programs and events in the arts. \nOur History\nFounded in 1975 to assist the Los Angeles City Department of Recreation & Parks in bringing arts and culture to the San Fernando Valley\, the Valley Cultural Foundation has been at the forefront of culture\, arts\, and arts education for more than 45 years. \n \nThe Valley Cultural Foundation’s free Concerts in the Park was launched in 1975 under the guidance of our first chairwoman\, educator Lou Bredlow. Today\, the concerts are still presented free of charge and enjoyed by more than 140\,000 Valley residents each year. First presented in Shadow Ranch Park\, our concerts have a permanent home at the Lou Bredlow Pavilion in Warner Center Park. Built on land generously donated by the Harry Warner family in 1967\, the Pavilion was built for $1.3 million dollars\, $1\,000\,000 of which came from Quimby funds and $300\,000 from the Valley Cultural Foundation’s donors. Today\, we hold a 25-year lease on the Pavilion from the Los Angeles City Department of Recreation & Parks\, and the facility is used for a variety of our cultural and arts activities. \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nvalleycultural.org/concerts-events/noho-summer-nights\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:The Broad Museum
DESCRIPTION:FREE TUE – SUN- Bunker Hill\, DTLA\n\n\n\n\nThe Broad museum presents an in-depth installation of Roy Lichtenstein\, opening May 26\, 2021\, features 22 artworks\, with nearly half on view for the first time\, including Purist Still Life (1975)\, Female Figure (1979)\, Two Paintings: Radiator and Folded Sheets (1984)\, and Nude with Pyramid (1994). \nAn outcome of sustained and ongoing engagement with artists and artwork\, the Broad collection is distinctive in its exceptional dedication to the full arc of artists’ careers. The Broad has highlighted this depth through expansive presentations in the third floor galleries\, featuring Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Roy Lichtenstein\, Kara Walker\, Andy Warhol\, and Christopher Wool\, along with works by many others. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom the curators\n\n\n\nRead extended content on Lichtenstein’s works in our mobile museum guide: mobile.thebroad.org/artistguides \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHighlighted Artwork\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPurist Still Life\n\nRoy Lichtenstein\n\n\n1975\n\n\noil and Magna on canvas\n\n\n70 x 80 in. Grand Avenue\, Los Angeles\, CA 90012\nThe Broad makes its collection of contemporary art from the 1950s to the present accessible to the widest possible audience by presenting exhibitions and operating a lending program to art museums and galleries worldwide. \nBy actively building a dynamic collection that features in-depth representations of influential contemporary artists and by advancing education and engagement through exhibitions and diverse public programming\, the museum enriches\, provokes\, inspires\, and fosters appreciation of art of our time. \n \nThe Broad was founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler\, the museum offers free general admission and presents an active program of rotating temporary exhibitions and innovative audience engagement. The Broad is home to 2\,000 works of art in the Broad collection\, which is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. \n  \n \nThe Broad from Home\nThe Broad is committed to inspiring and fostering an appreciation of contemporary art through our digital initiatives. Experience #TheBroadFromHome to find inspiration through music\, poetry\, performance\, workshops\, and conversations centered around the Broad collection. \nOverview \nPerformances \nTalks & Conversations \nArtist Spotlight \nFamily Art Workshops \nMore Online Programs \n  \nThe Broad Collection\nEli and Edythe Broad have been building their collection of postwar and contemporary art over the last 50 years. With a belief that the greatest art collections are built when the art is being made\, the Broads took to collecting art of their own time. \nThe Broad is home to 2\,000 works in the Broad collection by more than 200 artists\, and is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. The collection features in-depth holdings of influential contemporary artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Mark Bradford\, Jasper Johns\, Jeff Koons\, Barbara Kruger\, Yayoi Kusama\, Kerry James Marshall\, Julie Mehretu\, Takashi Murakami\, Robert Rauschenberg\, Ed Ruscha\, Cindy Sherman\, Cy Twombly\, Andy Warhol\, and more\, plus an ever-growing representation of younger artists. \n  \nView Our Collection Here\n \nIn Under the Table\, 1994\, the viewer is both in the world of imaginary giants and in the world of remembered childhood. Fusing Alice in Wonderland with the Duchampian tradition of the readymade\, Artist Robert Therrien constructs a doppelganger from an everyday object\, both displaying his visual wit and actualizing literary or imaginative fantasy in three-dimensional space. The table exudes an extraordinary aura\, compelling one to walk underneath the table and conjuring the physical memory of being under the table of one’s childhood home. Complicated and powerful\, the work offers fresh ideas of what a table\, sculpture\, and memory can mean. \n  \n  \n \nUsing the recognizable form of a balloon twisted into the shape of a dog\, Koons has frozen a moment in time\, exaggerating both scale and material. \nBalloon Dog (Blue) is literal and abstract. When standing close to it\, one’s own distorted reflection bends around smooth pert curves. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission is Free\nAll visitors must reserve timed tickets in advance. Some exhibitions and events carry a separate charge. \n\n\n\n\n\nHours\nMonday: Closed\nTuesday – Wednesday: 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.\nThursday – Friday: 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.\nSaturday: 10:00 a.m.-8:00p.m.\nSunday: 10:00 a.m.-6:00p.m. \n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.thebroad.org\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:Hammer Museum Free Screening
DESCRIPTION:TONIGHT- The Hammer Museum\nThe Hammer Museum presents a free screening of \n\n\n\nRUBY IN PARADISE\n\nLooking for a better future\, Ruby (Ashley Judd) leaves her small rural town in Tennessee for the Florida coast. “I got out without getting beaten or pregnant so I’m doing okay\,” she tells a coworker\, after arguing her way into an off-season retail job. Ruby’s journal entries\, recounted in voiceover\, provide a loose throughline to her episodic experiences\, warily building new relationships—some supportive\, some not—on the way to leaving the past behind and discovering herself on her own terms. A pioneering regional filmmaker\, writer-director Victor Nunez tells Ruby’s story through quiet rhythms of drift and reflection\, intune with Ruby’s new hometown\, itself a liminal space of seasonal workers and tourists\, lives all heading somewhere else. \n(1993\, dir. Victor Nunez\, 35mm\, color\, 114 min.) \n\n\n\n\n\nSTRANGE WEATHER\n\nShot on the Fisher Price Pixelvision toy camera that used audio cassettes for tape\, Strange Weather chronicles the daily lives of four listless crack addicts hanging out in a Miami apartment at the onset of a hurricane. This is a different spin on neorealism: many who viewed it thought it was pure documentary\, even though Peggy Ahwesh adapted it from co-director Margie Strosser’s stories of her sister’s down-and-out life. The cast members—including noted filmmaker Cheryl Dunye—don’t play themselves per se\, so one could say it’s a fiction based on truth. But amidst the gray swirl of the toy camera’s video snow\, lies a direct path to the tragic lives it depicts. \n(1993\, dir. Peggy Ahwesh\, DCP\, b&w\, 50 min.) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nATTENDING THIS PROGRAM?\nTicketing: Admission to Archive screenings at the Hammer is free. Registration is required via the Film & Television Archive website\, and tickets must be picked up at the box office. Hammer members receive priority ticketing until 15 minutes before showtime. Please review the Archive’s ticketing policy and COVID-19 admission policy. Questions should be directed to the Archive at programming@cinema.ucla.edu or 310-206-8013.\nParking: Parking is available under the museum. Rates are $7 for the first three hours with museum validation\, and $3 for each additional 20 minutes\, with a $20 daily maximum. There is a $7 flat rate after 6 p.m. on weekdays\, and all day on weekends. \n\nRead our food\, bag check\, and photo policies. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Hammer Museum champions the art and artists who challenge us to see the world in a new light\, to experience the unexpected\, to ignite our imaginations\, and inspire change. \nThe Hammer understands that art not only has the power to transport us through aesthetic experience but can also provide significant insight into some of the most pressing cultural\, political\, and social questions of our time. We share the unique and invaluable perspectives that artists have on the world around us. \nA vibrant intellectual and creative nexus\, the Hammer is fueled by dynamic exhibitions and programs—including lectures\, symposia\, film series\, readings\, and musical performances—that spark meaningful encounters with art and ideas. \nAnd through our unwavering commitment to free admission and free public programs\, the Hammer Museum is open for all and FREE FOR GOOD.\n  \nHours\nMonday: Closed\nTuesday – Sunday: 11:00am – 6:00pm \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://hammer.ucla.edu/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Friendzone Comedy Show
DESCRIPTION:MONTHLY AT FICKLEWOOD CIDER- Long Beach\nFriendzone Comedy Show\, at Finklewood Cider\, every month in Long Beach. Bringing the laughs to help us all through these tough times! Come out celebrate with some drinks\, and a free Comedy Show!\n\n\n\n\n\n \nWe are all still here\, let’s celebrate with some laughs. LB’s comedy duo Berenice Ashikian and Garrett Ulrich welcome an array of Long Beach\, Orange County\, and L.A. Comedians — upcoming and seasoned — to share the stage\, and drinks\, in the Heart of Long Beach \n \nSeating is first come first serve. We recommend getting there by at 7:00pm! \nEvent is 21+ \n \nComedy Show Hours\nThursday: 7:00pm – 9:00pm\n\n\n\n\n\nFicklewood Ciderworks 720 East Broadway\, Long Beach\, CA 90802 \n \n\nOUR INCEPTION\n\n\nWhen Long Beach residents and best friends\, Joe Farrier and Stefan Enjem\, would make their nightly climb over the ladder that bridged their backyards they discovered a new realm in the craft of cider. A realm that was created by the spirit of people coming together in pursuit of the perfect cider — something they dreamt of sharing with the greater community at large. \nThis is why Ficklewood Ciderworks was designed to be the living room of Long Beach. A place you can call home to unwind\, socialize\, and escape\, while enjoying your favorite ciders. \n \n  \nCOMMUNITY\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs the newest addition to the East Village\, formerly known as a Department of Motor Vehicles in Long Beach during the 1930-40s\, and has undergone an extensive transformation to become your regular stomping ground. Historic elements\, such as the board-form concrete\, were preserved to celebrate the heritage of the Long Beach community. \nIn this spirit\, nearly everything you see inside Ficklewood’s space has been touched or inspired by someone in Long Beach. The inside mural was designed by local artist Bodeck Hernandez\, the delicately painted Ficklewood logo mark was done by signage expert\, Nat Losbaker\, the bark-like cider tap handles were ingeniously created by local craftsman Randy Baranowsky and most importantly brand strategist and lead visionary Jeff Parker of AkinsParker also proudly calls Long Beach home. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEXPERIENCE\n\n\nWhile most manufacturers separate the tasting room from the fermentation process\, we welcome it. Our open layout allows you to take in the deep aromatic wonders of perfectly aging blends from California’s finest orchards\, while being a part of the process. \nExperience a 9-foot-high long pour from one of our exclusive ciders. As the cider falls from near the ceiling\, it aerates the beverage\, imparting effervescence into the cider. The homage to the Spanish style long pour is a unique way for Ficklewood guests to learn about cider’s rich history. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBON VOYAGE\n\n\nThe design of Ficklewood is meant to take each guest on a voyage of wonder and inspiration\, while reshaping cider expectations of Southern California and the world at large. We are honored to call Long Beach our home. \n \n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.ficklewood.com/\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:KCRW Hammer Summer Concerts 2022
DESCRIPTION:EVERY THURSDAY IN JULY– in the Hammer’s courtyard- Westwood Village\nSee free live concerts as KCRW hosts Summer Concerts in the Hammer’s courtyard\, Each Thursday in July. Plus KCRW DJs\, happy hour\, and extended gallery hours. \n\nHANA VU with KCRW DJs Dan Wilcox and Valida\nJuly 28 6:30pm \nHana Vu writes pop songs from her bedroom in Los Angeles. In 2021\, she signed to Ghostly International and released her full-length debut\, Public Storage\, followed by the EP Parking Lot in 2022. Vu’s relationship with music began when she picked up a her dad’s guitar and taught herself to play. She’d wake up every day and listen to L.A.’s ALT 98.7\, home to 1990s and 2000s alternative rock. Later in high school\, she found the local DIY scene. She remembers\, “A lot of my peer musicians were surf rock/punk type bands and so I tried to fit into that when I was gigging around. But what I was listening to at that time [St. Vincent\, Sufjan Stevens] was very different from what I performed.” As a live performer\, Vu has supported the likes of Soccer Mommy\, Sales\, Nilufer Yanya\, Wet\, Kilo Kish\, and Phantogram. \nIn 2014\, at age 14\, she started keeping a journal of bedroom pop experiments on Bandcamp. Her sound—brooding\, melodic pop driven by guitar and Vu’s distinctive contralto—developed across a series of self-releases\, including a low-key Willow Smith collaboration and covers of The Cure and Phil Collins. Her 2018 single “Crying on the Subway” caught the ear of Gorilla vs. Bear\, who released Vu’s self-produced debut EP\, How Many Times Have You Driven By. Early coverage came from Pitchfork\, NME\, and The Fader\, the latter playfully declaring\, “the seventeen-year-old is cooler than you and me.” Public Storage marked her first release with Ghostly and her first time working with a co-producer\, Jackson Phillips (Day Wave). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n10899 Wilshire Blvd\, Los Angeles\, CA 90024\n\n\nThe Hammer Museum champions the art and artists who challenge us to see the world in a new light\, experience the unexpected\, to ignite our imaginations\, and inspire change. \nThe Hammer understands that art not only has the power to transport us through aesthetic experience but can also provide significant insight into some of the most pressing cultural\, political\, and social questions of our time.
