If you stop by this iconic Los Angeles deli\, join us in the Kibitz room\, grab a cocktail\, sit back and enjoy the show.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCome kvetch at the Kibitz Room Comedy Show\nSign up begins at 5:50pm.\n\n\nKibitz Room\n\n\n\n\nAdjacent to Canter’s dining space is the Kibitz Room\, a 1961 addition that is also a cocktail lounge. It is a particularly congenial haven for music\, featuring a full bar and small stage. Every evening the Kibitz Room is jamming with local bands and has become something of a Los Angeles scene. \nBack in the 60’s\, bands like The Doors and The Byrds along with Frank Zappa and Arthur Lee would meet at Canter’s to exchange stories\, girlfriends and eat. By the 90’s informal star-studded jam sessions began taking place in the Kibitz Room on Tuesday nights where groups would schmooze\, and kibbitz. Many\, including Joni Mitchell\, Rick James\, Slash and members of Guns N’ Roses\, The Wallflowers\, and members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers\, have come to the Kibitz Room to hang out\, sing\, play\, and most importantly to eat and drink. Now there is something going on in the Kibitz Room every night of the week. Most nights turning into jam sessions by midnight. Did you know that the word ‘Kibitz’ is the Yiddish word for offering friendly advice or wisecracking? \nThe Kibitz Room is open daily from 10:30am – 1:40am. \nFor more information. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHours\nEvery Tuesday: 6:00pm – 7:30pm\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.cantersdeli.com/kibitz-room\ncall us at (323) 651-2030 or email us for special events\, questions and reservations: kibitzroomcomedy@gmail.com \n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:BREWERY BIKE RIDE
DESCRIPTION:EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT- Canoga Park\nThe Tuesday Brewery Bike Ride @ The 818 Brewery! We’re rolling back into our weekly bike ride! \nBringYourOwnBike\, Wear bike safety gearSafety and lights \nAll skill levels welcome (Bikes w/ gears recommended) \nFun West Valley Ride\, all riders get happy hour prices after the ride. \nMeetup @ 5:30pm\nDepart @ 6:00pm\n10 mile ride (roughly 1 hour) Ride at your own risk\, Sign off release required when you arrive. \n  \nHours for the Tasting Room \nTUESDAY: 5pm – 10pm \nBIKE RIDE: MEET @ 5:30 / DEPART @ 6PM ( STARTING 3-15-22 ) \n \n\n \n8951 De Soto Avenue\, Canoga Park\, CA 91304 \n  \n8one8 Brewing is proud to offer a product that brings people together of different nationalities\, age groups\, religious beliefs\, income levels\, political views and create a moment of common ground to say cheers! \n  \nOUR ROOTS:  \nThe start of 818 Brewing can be traced back to three things — the discovery of a new bar\, our curiosity and our entrepreneurial spirit.\nThe time spent at a new\, local bar was actually our crash course to the craft brew scene. Thanks to this crazy new bar in Winnetka\, CA and our buddy the bartender\, we were introduced to new styles of beer that were much different than the commercial brands we were used to. After many conversations on the process of making beer and the brewing techniques of smaller breweries\, we decided to take a chance at brewing our own malted\, adult beverages! We signed up for a Maltose Falcons class\, bought a brewing kit and a turkey fryer and made a batch of beer on June 23\, 2012. After this first batch\, we were hooked! We invested more time in learning about the process\, fabricated custom brewing equipment and experimented with new recipes while tweaking them to make them our own. After serving samples of our homemade brews and getting positive feedback\, we began talking of doing it legit and opening up a brewery!  Given our Valley roots and the fact our beer was brewed out of a garage in Sylmar\, CA\, we decided 818 Brewing was the perfect name and we filed our paperwork in October 2014 for our new venture. \nWhat we’ve enjoyed the most along our journey is the sense of community within the craft brew scene. Not many products can bring people together of different nationalities\, age groups\, religious beliefs\, income levels\, political views – and even fellow brewers! – And create a moment of common ground.  8 one 8 Brewing is proud to offer a product that brings us together to say cheers! \n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \neventbrite.com/e/brewery-bike-ride\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Nobody Walks in LA
DESCRIPTION:TODAY – Union Station\nNobody Walks in LA?  We Do! Join us to our Los Angeles Walking Tours! Summer 2022 Walks are now open for Registration! The walking tour is on July 26\, 2022\, Tuesday from 10:00 am till 3:00 pm. The meeting place is at Union Station\, 800 N Alameda St\, Los Angeles. Please note that the meeting spot is subject to change – RSVP to stay updated! \n\nITINERARY\nWe will be meeting outside\, on the left side of Union Station (if looking at the building from Alameda)\, and will be there doing intros\, and checking out the building\, until about 20 minutes past our meet time. From Union Station\, we will walk through Chinatown\, Olvera Street\, Downtown LA and end in Little Tokyo. If you need to drop out early\, at any point\, you can go back to any Gold or Red Line station and take the train back to your car.\nA more detailed itinerary will be emailed to those that RSVP. \n\nCOST: The walking tour is free for students!\nFor non-students\, there is a suggested ticket price of $20 – $30 if you can\, but only if you can – and no worries at all if you can’t! More info will be provided once you register in regards to how to make a payment.\nThere are a few minimal costs to take into consideration\, such as food and drinks along the walk.\nIf you opt to park at Union Station\, budget for up to $15 for parking\, $8 if you park underground\, ‘in the back’. \n\nHOW MUCH WALKIN’ ARE WE TALKIN’?\nYou will indeed get your workout – smartwatches and trackers will be buzzing! Typically\, we track a good 4-5 miles\, so wear comfy shoes! That said\, we move at a moderate pace\, with lots of stops\, and breaks for food and drink. \n\nABOUT THE WALKING TOURS\nInspired by the tours previously led by Dr. Mike Steiner of the CSUF American Studies department\, and the book A People’s Guide to Los Angeles\, the Los Angeles walking tours are designed to provide a link between local history\, community\, and the ways that urban spaces transform when explored by foot. Tour organizer Brande Jackson teaches in the American Studies departments of both CSUF and CSULB\, and also serves as the program director of Living Histories\, a non-profit organization devoted to community and creativity. She set out to ‘revive’ the walking tour tradition of CSUF AMST in early 2016 as part of her ‘California Cultures’ class and has since expanded it into a larger community project. \nEach walk brings together a mixture of high school and college students with community members\, who\, as a group\, explore the place they collectively call home. The walks emphasize the often overlooked and untold stories that shaped the unique history of Los Angeles\, and some tours also emphasize “the city as creative inspiration” via street photography and writing. A key element of the tours\, though\, is simply helping people see ‘their city’ in new ways; many participants of the tours comment on how ‘they had always meant to go…’ to the various stops on the tour\, and are surprised by the depth and history that such a small part of a large city has to offer. \nThe tours happen as part of a larger project coordinated by Living Histories: “Telling the Stories of Where We Are From.” Living Histories is currently seeking funding to expand this program\, a mixture of Los Angeles history with an individual memoir of residents\, to a diverse range of communities in the city. \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nliving-histories.us/walk.html\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:The Old LA Zoo
DESCRIPTION:OPEN EVERYDAY- Griffith Park\nThe Old LA Zoo\, or The Griffith Park Zoo\, opened in 1912 and closed in 1966 with the opening of the new\, Los Angeles Zoo. The abandoned site of the Griffith Park Zoo\, complete with the ruins of animal enclosures\, is now a picnic area and hiking trail in Griffith Park. \n  \n \nThe Old LA Zoo opened in 1912 with a grand total of only 15 animals. Bears\, Lions\, Monkeys\, Macaw’s\, Elephants\, Reptiles\, Goats\, and Turtles now lived in the zoo\, which was built on the original site of Griffith J. Griffith‘s defunct ostrich farm. \n  \n \nAs Los Angeles grew\, the small Griffith Park Zoo was increasingly criticized as an “inadequate\, ugly\, poorly designed despite drawing more than 2 million visitors a year. \nIn 1958\, the city decided to create a brand new zoo\, and the Griffith Park Zoo closed in August 1966. Its animals were transferred to the new Los Angeles Zoo 2 miles away\, which opened a few months later. \n  \n \nThe animal enclosures\, with the bars removed\, were left as ruins and remain today. A large picnic area was added\, and NOW every summer\, the zoo is the location for the Independent Shakespeare Company’s  Free “Shakespeare in the Park” performances. \nThe Old Zoo is located on Griffith Park Dr. Only 2 miles from today’s LA Zoo\,   \n  \n \nUpon arriving\, you will see a small parking lot. Follow the path Up the hill to reach the abandoned enclosure. \nUpon arriving\, you will enter many of the original Grotto’s. There are lots of little spaces to crawl into\, AND stairs to climb up. \n  \n \nFollow the path around to get to the upper lever where you will find even more cages & enclosures. \n \nIf you are going to come for a visit\, make sure to bring a bottle of water and your imagination. \n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nfriendsofgriffithpark.org\n \n  \nFind more

Sunset Blvd West Hollywood\, CA 90069 \nAs long as there has been a Los Angeles rock scene\, there has been the Whisky A Go-Go. An anchor on the Sunset Strip since its opening in 1964\, the Whisky A Go-Go has played host to rock ‘n’ roll’s most important bands\, from the Doors\, Janis Joplin\, and Led Zeppelin to today’s up-and-coming new artists. \n \nOn January 16\, 1964\, a small club on the Sunset Strip opened its doors for the first time.\n\nIt was The Whisky a Go Go\, the first-ever live music venue to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and the most iconic club on the Strip. Founded by Mario Maglieri\, Elmer Valentine\, and Phil Tanzini – The Whisky had to spell its name without the ‘e’ in whiskey because Los Angeles city zoning laws didn’t allow any club to be named after alcohols (The Whisky constantly had problems with the city and for a while had the name “The Whisk?”). The world-famous Whisky a Go Go opened on Jan. 15\, 1964\, with a concert by Johnny Rivers. \nA DJ named Joanie Labine (the first DJ at The Whisky) played records in a booth that was suspended to the right of the stage in between Johnny Rivers’ sets. Labine entertained the crowd by dancing and the idea of the go-go dancer was born. Very soon a ‘costume’ of the go-go dancers also emerged: a girl wearing a short\, fringed skirt and high\, white boots: a trend that will spread to all discotheques and nightclubs all across the country. \nAnd the rest is history… \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.eventbrite.com/e/fast-times-monday-night\n \n  \nFind more

Borrow for 3 weeks\, with the option to renew\, if available. \nPlease note: Laptop & Hotspot Loan Kits require a full access card to check out. Call your nearest Sidewalk Service location for details about signing up or upgrading your digital card. \nFunding for this project has been provided by the Coronavirus Aid\, Relief\, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1. Who can check out a Chromebook kit?\nAdults with a standard adult library card in good standing will be able to check out a Chromebook kit at a participating library.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2. How do I check out a Chromebook kit?\nRequests for Chromebook kits can be made using our online catalog or over the phone\, like any of our other materials. At this time requests are site-specific and can only be placed at libraries offering the service (listed above). Call a library offering the service to arrange a same-day checkout\, if kits are available.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n3. When can I pick up my Laptop & Hotspot?\nCall the owning library and arrange to pick up your kit during Sidewalk Service hours.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n4. How long can I keep the Laptop & Hotspot Loan? Can I renew?\nThe kits can be borrowed for 3 weeks. If no other customers are on the waiting list\, the checkout can be renewed up to 3 times. The renewal needs to be made before your checkout period ends.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n5. How do I return the Chromebook Kit?\nChromebooks must be returned in person to the owning library during Sidewalk Service hours. They cannot be returned in the bookdrop. They cannot be returned to any library other than the one where the kit was checked out. Please call the owning library to arrange a drop-off time and call again once at the library to alert staff. Staff will bring out a box labeled Laptop Return to the Sidewalk Service table. You’ll be instructed to remove all items – the Chromebook\, the wireless hotspot\, and both charging cables – from the carrying case. Put the case into the box first\, on the bottom\, and then put all other items in on top. Staff will check the box to make sure all items are inside and that they look fine. All items will be quarantined for 4 days and confirmed to be working properly before being checked in. Staff will contact you if there are any questions or concerns. Please remember that the loan will still show on your account until the quarantine and check-in process is complete.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n6. Are there late fees?\nLate fees will be assessed the same as all other library materials. The Chromebook will become disabled once the loan period has ended.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n7. SUMMARY:Hammer Museum Free Screening
DESCRIPTION:TONIGHT- The Hammer Museum\nThe Hammer Museum presents a free screening of \n\n\n\nBALLAST\n\nShot throughout in a wintery blue light\, the Mississippi delta itself appears bruised by the loss and hurt at the core of writer-director Lance Hammer’s Black-centered family drama. In the wake of a young man’s death by suicide\, his twin brother (Micheal J. Smith\, Sr.)\, his estranged ex-wife (Tarra Riggs) and his 12-year-old son (Jimmyron Ross) struggle with the ghosts of the past\, at first separately and then\, compelled by fate\, together. The family-run convenience store provides a tenuous stability but violence from the past and present ever threaten to overwhelm them. Hammer’s all non-professional cast delivers powerful performances shaped as much by silences and isolation as intense points of contact. A multiple award-winner at Sundance in 2008 for dramatic directing and cinematography\, it remains a singular\, hauntingly poetic masterwork of 21st century independent filmmaking. \n(2008\, dir. Lance Hammer\, 35mm\, color\, 96 min.) \n\n\n\n\n\nGEORGE WASHINGTON\n\nGeorge Washington’s crazy plot description can’t possibly describe its power. It loosely follows a racially mixed group of kids and teens in North Carolina\, and the events that ensue when one of them (Donald Holden)\, in a deeply disturbing scene\, accidentally kills another. In the wake of the tragedy\, his character assumes a super hero persona and wanders the area in costume\, performing good deeds. The surrealism of this scenario is belied by the dead serious realism of the stunning performances by director David Gordon Green’s cast of non-actors\, and the stark beauty of the environment and rural landscape. Green has openly acknowledged his inspiration in the works of Terrence Malick\, but the results are both original and piercing. \n(2000\, dir. David Gordon Green\, DCP\, color\, 90 min.) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nATTENDING THIS PROGRAM?\nTicketing: Admission to Archive screenings at the Hammer is free. Registration is required via the Film & Television Archive website\, and tickets must be picked up at the box office. Hammer members receive priority ticketing until 15 minutes before showtime. Please review the Archive’s ticketing policy and COVID-19 admission policy. Questions should be directed to the Archive at programming@cinema.ucla.edu or 310-206-8013.\nParking: Parking is available under the museum. Rates are $7 for the first three hours with museum validation\, and $3 for each additional 20 minutes\, with a $20 daily maximum. There is a $7 flat rate after 6 p.m. on weekdays\, and all day on weekends. \n\nRead our food\, bag check\, and photo policies. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Hammer Museum champions the art and artists who challenge us to see the world in a new light\, to experience the unexpected\, to ignite our imaginations\, and inspire change. \nThe Hammer understands that art not only has the power to transport us through aesthetic experience but can also provide significant insight into some of the most pressing cultural\, political\, and social questions of our time. We share the unique and invaluable perspectives that artists have on the world around us. \nA vibrant intellectual and creative nexus\, the Hammer is fueled by dynamic exhibitions and programs—including lectures\, symposia\, film series\, readings\, and musical performances—that spark meaningful encounters with art and ideas. \nAnd through our unwavering commitment to free admission and free public programs\, the Hammer Museum is open for all and FREE FOR GOOD.\n  \nHours\nMonday: Closed\nTuesday – Sunday: 11:00am – 6:00pm \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://hammer.ucla.edu/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:PENINSULA BEACH SUMMER CONCERTS
DESCRIPTION:SUNDAYS THIS SUMMER- Alamitos Park\nJOIN OUR SUMMER CONCERT SERIES at Peninsula Beach! The Peninsula Neighborhood Association annually sponsors the Summer Concert Series with a weenie roast and the “Santa by the Bay” evening for kids! All concerts begin at 5:30 pm\, at Alamitos Park  \n  \nCivic involvement includes supporting the Peninsula’s Community Emergency Response Team (see CERT)\, as well as working with the City on beach maintenance and sand replenishment\, boardwalk maintenance and replacement\, and area development plans and building code variance requests. \nCONCERT SCHEDULE\nWOODIE AND THE LONGBOARDS\, July 10\nSTONE SOUL\, July 17\nSQUEEZE BOX\, July 24\nSOUL 360\, AUGUST 7\nEMPEROR\, AUGUST 21\nSCOTTY MAC BAND\, August 24\nACE BAND\, September 11\nYACHTY BY NATURE\, September 18\n\nSIGN UP FOR MEMBERSHIP!\nMembership in the Peninsula Neighborhood Association \nWho is the Peninsula Neighborhood Association?\nWhat did it do for you?\nWhy you should Join/Renew?\nThe Peninsula Neighborhood Association is an organization open to all Long Beach Peninsula residents\, be they homeowners or renters\, for a $25 per person or $50 for a household annual membership fee. It is a 501(c)(3) corporation and has a volunteer Board of Directors\, who are nominated and elected by the membership at large. The Peninsula Neighborhood Association derives its effectiveness and strength from the diversity\, vitality and commitment of its membership\, as it pursues its goal of preserving the Peninsula’s unique quality of life in an ever-changing environment. \nNOW YOU CAN JOIN/RENEW MEMBERSHIP ONLINE HERE \nor \nDownload Membership Form. \n\nPENINSULA NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION\nThe Peninsula Neighborhood Association is a neighborhood organization open to all Peninsula residents\, whether property owners or renters\, for a per person annual fee of $25.00. It has a volunteer Board of Directors who are nominated and elected by the members of the Peninsula Neighborhood Association each November. \nThe Peninsula Neighborhood Association was incorporated in 1960 to oppose a plan by the City to replace the bayside beach with a sea wall\, as exists in Naples\, for private boat docks (thus the name Peninsula Neighborhood Association). Since winning that battle\, the Peninsula Neighborhood Association has been actively involved in preserving the Peninsula’s quality of life through sponsoring local events and activities\, as well as representing Peninsula residents before the City on matters that could affect our neighborhood. \nMISSION STATEMENT:\nTo protect and preserve the beaches along the Long Beach Peninsula for public usage and to ensure these beaches\nand community be maintained at the highest residential and recreational standards. \nHISTORY\nOne of the first structures on the Peninsula was an isolated duck hunting club located at the bayside end of what is now 61st Place. The club was established at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. The first summer beach homes\, primarily owned by residents of Los Angeles and Pasadena\, were built in 1902-04. Owners of these summer homes were able to reach the Peninsula by means of an interurban electric train that ran from Los Angeles to Newport Beach. The train ran down the center of Ocean Boulevard the length of the Peninsula and then across a trestle connecting the east end of the Peninsula to Seal Beach. \n“The Pavilion\,” which at various times during its history served as an expensive restaurant and roller skating rink\, was established around 1910-12 at the oceanside end of 62nd Place\, which was then called Pier Avenue. Pier Avenue undoubtedly got its name from the pier that extended out into the ocean from The Pavilion. The Pavilion and its pier burned down a few years before a massive hurricane swept across the Peninsula in 1939\, destroying or causing significant damage to most structures throughout the Peninsula. \nThe Seaside Walk Boardwalk\, which was built in the ’20s\, is considered by residents to be a historical treasure. Attempts to replace it with concrete have been strongly opposed by Peninsula residents over the years and\, in the 1980s\, money was raised by residents to provide new surface boards (the City replaced the boards again in 2003). \nThe Peninsula has grown to encompass its current mix of single-family homes\, duplexes\, condominiums\, and apartments. Residents are a diverse group of families\, singles\, and senior citizens who have been residents for decades. The Peninsula continues to evolve\, while at the same time retaining its unique environment and lifestyle. \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nlbpeninsula.org/summer-concert-series\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

Our aim is not to impersonate but to do our best in honoring the aesthetics of their iconic sound and in honoring the important role they played in pioneering the rock n’ roll movement\, all while having a little fun sharing our own personal story\,” and they do just that. The Everly brothers’ career lasted over half a century\, they recorded 21 studio albums\, sold more than 60 million records worldwide\, had over 30 billboard top -100 singles\, received numerous accolades in their later career\, and influenced countless legendary artists that came after them including The Beatles\, Simon and Garfunkel\, The Beach Boys\, The Rolling Stones\, Bob Dylan\, and more.
