SUMMARY:Turtle Races at Brennan's
DESCRIPTION:EVERY 1ST & 3RD THURSDAY\n\n\nCome down to the Turtle Races at Brennan’s Bar & Restaurant\, every 1st and third Thursday\, and watch our star athletes put their track shoes on and tear up the track. \nYeah\, turtle races. It’s the real sport of kings\, and it’s found its home here at Brennan’s for 45 years. In 1975\, then-owner Ab Lawrence brought “the world’s stupidest sport” to Marina del Rey as a lark\, hoping that he could attract a few people for a couple of weeks. But the turtles knew how to draw a crowd\, so the races kept going. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHere’s how it works\n\n\n\n\nEvery first and third Thursday\, the turtles come out of their turtle sanctuary and start limbering up. Come 8:30pm\, the first race starts and five turtles will enter the center of the ring. First one that makes it out of circle wins. It’s as simple as that! \nThink you’ve got a hot tip on who’s gonna win? Pay for a ticket to put your name in your favored turtle’s hat. If they win\, your name might get called—and you’ll get to win a prize from our prize wheel. Plus\, all of the money goes to charity! \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere’s only one rule…\n\n\nNo pointing! Our turtles get shy. If caught\, well… you’ll just have to come to a race to find out what the punishment is. \nForty-five years in\, and the turtles have shuffled out of the ring over 10\,000 times. Come visit us on the 1st and 3rd Thursday and take part in the tradition with us. But remember—don’t point! \n\n  \n\nHours\n1st & 3rd Thursdays: 8:30pm – 9:00pm\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.brennansla.com/turtle-races\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:LONG BEACH MUSEUM OF ART
DESCRIPTION:KIDS UNDER 12 FREE- Long Beach\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJawlensky and Kandinsky: The Milton Wichner Collection\nThrough October 2\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe most significant gift in the Museum’s history was a generous bequest of collector Milton Wichner in 1979. Wichner’s gift of 61 works by European Modernists changed the course of the Museum’s future\, expanding the collection from one of regional-focus\, to one enhanced by international perspectives. Wichner moved to Los Angeles from the East coast upon completing his law degree from Harvard University in 1936. Between the film industry\, the oil boom \,and an influx of Europeans fleeing Nazi Germany\, Los Angeles saw a period of tremendous growth\, accompanied by the convergence of different cultures and aesthetics. During this time\, Wichner met Galka Scheyer who represented a group of contemporary artists\, she named Blaue Vier (Blue Four): Alexej Jawlensky\, Vasily Kandinsky\, Lyonel Feininger\, and Paul Klee. This exhibition showcases the works of two of the Blue Four artists\, Alexej Jawlensky and Vasily Kandinsky\, curated from the Wichner Collection. The Milton Wichner Collection entrusted to the Museum\, lives on to perpetuate the memory of this benefactor\, and serve as a reflection of his passion and esteem for European abstraction. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGenie Shenk: Ring\nOngoing\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nConstructed of folded building paper with internal armature\, Ring began as a study of spiral motion between concentric circles in 1989. Genie Shenk became interested in the spiral as a means of increment from one circle to another and found this relationship could be defined three-dimensionally with the intersection of two isometric circular forms. As the inner circle diminishes\, the outer increases\, until a point of equilibrium is reached. \nGenie Shenk\, Ring\, 1990-1999\, Tar paper\, Gift of the artist  2009.13.a-et \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n\n\n2300 East Ocean Boulevard\, Long Beach\, CA 90803\n\n\n\nThe Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA) was founded in 1950 as a municipal art center for the city of Long Beach. This hour of fun that will test you mind. is hosted by Stiofán \n\n\n\nCash and Drink Prizes\, Free to enter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n \nA Creative Celebration\n\n\nArtBarLA\, located in Mar Vista\, is a space that showcases the work of all types of creatives.  It is the best of what the Los Angeles art world has to offer. The artwork accepted into our monthly group shows is solely based on the quality of work rather than the artists’ exhibit and sales history.  This allows us to introduce new and under exposed talent.  Because we cater to an over 21 audience\, artists are allowed to express themselves freely without the threat of censorship.  Our outside murals will be changed out approximately every six months and our patrons will also be entertained by live painters. \n \nHaving a stage opens up the range of artistic expression even further.  In addition to the visual arts\, the stage will provide anything from performance art\, bands and DJ’s to over the top shows from burlesque to magic and beyond.  We will also host artists talks as ArtBarLA is a gathering place for the community\, innovators and free thinkers in the art world.  ArtBarLA is an open space for open minds.  This sense of openness and innovation will bring something to the art world Los Angeles has yet to experience. \nArtBarLA is a delight to the senses\,\nnot limited to sight and sound\, but taste as well.  We have partnered with local breweries to provide fine artisan craft beers which can be consumed straight from the tap or bottle or enjoyed in a tasty beer cocktail.  All beverages will be savored in our unique setting.  Guests can sit back and relax in our whimsical bar and lounge area.  Every piece of eclectic furniture has been carefully curated to provide a fun\, playful experience. \nFollow us on Instagram and Facebook: @artbarla or contact us at artbarlainfo@gmail.com \n\nHours\nMonday & Tuesday: Closed\nWednesday – Thursday: 6:00pm – 11:00pm\nFriday: 6:00pm – 12:00pm\nSaturday: 6:00pm – 1:00pm\nSunday: 2:00pm – 8:00pm \n\n\n\n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.artbarla.com/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Odd Squad Coffee Cruise
DESCRIPTION:EVERY WEDNESDAY at Coffee Bean Culver City\nThe Odd Squad Coffee Cruise meets every Wednesday at the Coffee Bean in Culver City and EVERYONE IS WELCOME !\nStarted in 2012 by Blake Weddington\, The Odd Squad Car Club has always been more about the people and less about the cars.  The club has no dues\, no required attendance and no car criteria other than pre-smog American cars (preferably not muscle cars).  The cars in the club range from fresh paint jobs to rusty rat rods and most are used as daily drivers. \n\nThe Odd Squad Coffee Cruise happens every Wednesday\nand then cruises to a local food spot!  If you are interested in joining the club\, we ask that you come by on Wednesdays and get to know the guys.  Our club has no attitude\, no egos and everyone is treated with respect\, so the worst that will happen is you leave with some new friends. \n\n\n\nLos Angeles is famous worldwide\, for its long love affair with the automobile. Car culture has been part of the city’s DNA for generations. From classics to custom builds and hot rods\, the automobile has always been a Southern Californian symbol of unfettered freedom. Here\, the automobile was embraced by Angelenos young and old\, rich and poor\, honest and not quite so. From the beginning\, when LA’s Sepulveda\, Sunset\, and Olympic Boulevards were the primary arteries linking beaches\, the Valley\, and downtown\, the automobile was our way to stay connected. It was never merely a matter of arriving at Point B from Point A—one had to get there in style\, whether cruising the boulevard or driving a getaway car.\n\nKeep up to date with all things Odd Squad by following them on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/oddsquadcarclub/\n\n\nOdd Squad Coffee Cruise Meets at The Coffee Bean\nBorn and brewed in Southern California since 1963\, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® has always been passionate about connecting loyal customers with carefully handcrafted products.\n\n\n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \ninstagram.com/oddsquadcarclub\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:COME LIGHT UP THE NIGHT
DESCRIPTION:EVERY WEDNESDAY NIGHT @ South Beach Park in Santa Monica.\nGlow Flow at Santa Monica’s South Beach\, is a night time event\, that turns the beach into a playground of light.  Local artists spin various lighted objects to create one of a kind moments of kinetic art. A fantastic group of artists & dancers who work with LED Hula Hoops and other LED apparatus they can spin\, toss\, throw in the air\, etc. \n\n Very friendly and talented peeps.  \n \nCelebrating our love of  the FLOW at Glow Flow Santa Monica!\n\n\n\n\nHow to Capture the Glow Flow Moment\nIf spin isn’t your thing\, how about photography. Here are different ways to shoot Glow Flow Santa Monica. \nGOLDEN HOUR / BLUE HOUR\nYou can shoot available light for images of the artists. \nSLOW SHUTTER SPEED\nAs Glow Flow gets dark\, you can use a slow shutter speed to let the moving LED devices draw amazing “spirograph” shapes with light against the night sky. \nSLOW SYNC\nYou can combine both elements with slow sync or rear sync. A long shutter speed captures traces from LED Hula Hoops and then your on-or-off-camera flash lights the artist. \nTHE BEST FLASH?\nI haven’t had the best results with built-in pop-up flash. I like using an external flash in the hot-shoe. At Glow Flow\, We often say that having flash off the hot-shoe produces better lighting. For me\, in this case\, I think there’s so much going on\, that hot-shoe mounted flash works well. You could bring a light stand and battery powered strobe which might look great but seems like a lot of gear. \nTRIPOD?\nIf you use flash\, it will freeze the artist\, and the point-light-sources of the LEDs effectively freeze themselves\, so you can shoot this handheld. However\, you will get crisper images if you use a tripod. \nBRACKET\, BRACKET\, BRACKET!\nAs you can imagine\, dialing in your exposure can be a bit complicated! Plan to try a variety of different shutter speeds to see what works with the LEDs. And different flash intensities to balance the illumination on the artist with the LED traces. \n\nSouth Beach Park\nis located at 110 Pier Ave\, on the border between Venice Beach and Santa Monica.  \n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nfacebook.com/veniceglowflow\n \n\n\n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n
