DESCRIPTION:EVERY WEEK\, EVERY RUN\, EVERY BODY- Santa Monica & Venice\nThe Venice Run Club is the heartbeat of Venice. A community of runners here to better ourselves and our community. Come run with us. \n48 for Change\nWith the combination of a global pandemic and civil unrest around racial injustice\, June of 2020 set the stage for important societal and human issues to finally come to light in a more permanent way. This was the same time that two friends\, Justin and Tyler\, decided they wanted to take action to make a difference in the injustices and inequality we see in our communities. \n  \n\n\n\nThe week of George Floyd’s passing\, Justin called Tyler voicing his frustration from Floyd’s murder and subsequent reactions\, and they joined forces to do a running challenge that very weekend that entailed running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. A GoFundMe was set up to collect funds from friends and family throughout the running challenge to donate to help support racial justice. \nWhat started as a way to take the mind off of the pressure cooker of injustice resulted in a massively successful and attention-grabbing fundraiser\, and eventually turned into a 501(c)3 nonprofit\, still strong and growing today: 48 For Change. \nAside from fundraising and donating\, Justin found that the community that gathered to run that weekend was something special\, and needed its own spotlight. A place where anyone can come and simply run with a group of good people. The Venice Heritage Museum (VHM) gives visitors the opportunity to experience the stories of one of our country’s most culturally rich and innovative communities—Venice\, a Los Angeles\, California coastal community. \nVHM is a place for discovery\, displaying Venice’s accepting and progressive legacy and highlighting both well-known and untold histories. In the face of constant change\, VHM aims to be an inclusive hub to celebrate the diverse cultures and unique facets of Venice’s culture and history. \n\n\n\n\nLiving Heritage \n\nRotating exhibitions and events showcase our in-house and community archives\, representing Venice’s creative and socio-economically diverse histories. Collecting stories as local Venice community histories evolve and grow as we  develop a hub for the future as well as the past.\n\n\n\nCultural Representation \n\nProviding a permanent platform for Venice’s diverse communities\, highlighting both well-known and untold histories.\nRepresenting historical legacies through the words\, images\, and ephemera of community members themselves.\n\n\n\nStrengthening Community\n\nImproving the lives of local community members\, other Angelenos\, and visitors by deepening and enriching their understanding of Venice.\n\n\nServing as a common ground where all attendees can meet and gather to celebrate the Venice community’s unique culture.\n\n  \n\n\n \n\n\nEmpowering Youth \n\nEducating and empowering young people to take pride in their community\, their family histories\, and the stories of cultural innovators who have lived and worked in Venice\nNurturing youth to write the next chapter of the Venice history by becoming cultural stewards and storytellers in their own right\n\n \nPublic Knowledge Production\n\nVHM is interested in the full range of the heritage of Venetians. This range includes inherited traditions of tangible and intangible culture\, as well as contemporary activities\, meanings\, and behaviors that we draw from them.​\nAs part of fulfilling our mission\, VHM preserves and highlights the cultural and collective stories of Venetians. Our work is to curate and collect stories\, artifacts\, memorabilia\, and memories and through them tell the stories/histories of the Venice community. VHM is interested to preserve source materials and produce new knowledge that is accessible to the communities and institutions that seek access to them.\n\n\n\n​Venice’s heritage is uniquely rich\, as so many people in Venice come from different backgrounds. Over 115+ years\, Venice has experienced cultural shifts and economic turbulence\, and yet common threads are still found within the community.
