SUMMARY:Annenberg Beach House Polar Bear Plunge
DESCRIPTION:TODAY @ ANNENBERG BEACH HOUSE- Santa Monica\nLooking for a bold way to kick off 2024? The Annual Polar Bear Plunge  at the Annenberg Beach House\, is a great way to refresh\, reset\, and have some fun. If you have never been part of a Polar Bear Swim\, it’s time to see what you’re missing. \nThe morning starts with a 10 a.m. check-in at Guest Services before heading to the shoreline in front of the Beach House. The first plunge takes place around 10:15 a.m. starting with the youngest Polar Bears\, followed by the rest of the crowd. The most stalwart Polar Bears can take part in the 300-yard swim around a buoy. At this no judgement zone\, whether you stick your toes in the ocean\, take a quick dip or round the buoy\, it’s a great experience that gets the blood pumping and the skin tingling. \n  \n \nAfter the invigorating ocean plunge\, warm up in the heated Beach House pool. Gather with friends and family\, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate\, and grab a photo with our very own Pat the Polar Bear mascot. \nPool admission will be charged for Polar Bears and others entering the pool deck to visit\, soak\, swim in the heated pool\, or take a hot shower. \nIn-person registration will be available but may be limited on the day of event. Parking is $3 per hour or $8 per day. \nPool Admission: $10/adult\, $5/senior adult age 60+\, $4/youth age 1-17. \nRegular Pool Rules apply while swimming at this event. Youth under age eight and under four feet must be accompanied by an adult in the pool at all times. \nQuestions? Please call 310-458-4904\, email beach.house@santamonica.gov or visit www.annenbergbeachhouse.com for more information. \n  \n\n \n415 Pacific Coast Hwy\, Santa Monica\, CA 90402 \n \nThe Annenberg Community Beach House at Santa Monica State Beach is a public facility located on 5 acres of oceanfront property. The Beach House story is one of evolution from private to public\, starting with the development of the property at 415 Pacific Coast Highway as an opulent private estate in the 1920s. \nHistoric Past\n \nThe 5-acre oceanfront site upon which the Annenberg Community Beach House now sits was originally developed during the Gold Coast era of the 1920s by William Randolph Hearst for actress Marion Davies. The Davies estate featured a mansion of 100-plus rooms and an ornate marble swimming pool. As with many Hearst projects\, the vision of architect Julia Morgan provided a cohesive grace to the rambling estate. The Beach House was a hot spot on Santa Monica’s Gold Coast\, with Hearst and Davies entertaining luminaries from the Hollywood set\, such as Charlie Chaplin\, Louis B. Mayer\, Samuel Goldwyn\, Greta Garbo\, Clark Gable and other stars of the day. \nIn 1947\, Joseph Drown purchased the property from Davies and converted into Oceanhouse\, “America’s Most Beautiful Hotel\,” along with the Sand & Sea Club\, a limited-membership beach club. After the Oceanhouse venture ended\, the main mansion was demolished in 1956. The popular Sand & Sea Club continued to operate. \nBecoming the Beach House\nThe property was sold to the State of California in 1959\, continuing to operate as the ever-popular Sand & Sea Club under a concession agreement. In the 1990s\, the City of Santa Monica ran the facility\, known as ‘415 PCH\,’ until the 1994 Northridge Earthquake severely damaged all structures on site. \nIn recovering from the earthquake\, the City embarked on an extensive public input process to re-envision the role of 415 PCH as an important public gathering space. Although a reuse plan was adopted in 1998\, the project sat on hold while the City tried to secure funding. Wallis Annenberg of the Annenberg Foundation\, held fond memories of visiting the Sand & Sea Club. When she learned of the City’s struggle to identify funding to realize its vision for a year-round public beach facility\, she enthusiastically offered to help. The Annenberg Foundation provided a $27.5 million grant that paved the way for the site’s rehabilitation. \nStaff from the Foundation and the City worked with Frederick Fisher Partners\, Architects; Charles Pankow Builders; Historic Resources Group; Mia Lehrer & Associates; AdamsMorioka; and Roy McMakin to form the new Beach House. The project involved rehabilitation of the historic Marion Davies Guest House and pool\, as well as construction of new recreation and event spaces. Three overarching themes guide the interpretation of the site with our year round cultural programming reflecting those themes. \nThree Remarkable Individuals: William Randolph Hearst\, Marion Davies\, and Julia Morgan shaped the site’s historical legacy.\nA Beach Like No Other: The Southern California beach occupies a unique place within the physical and cultural landscape of America.\nA Public Place Henceforth: The site of the Beach House has seen an evolution from private ownership to public management and ownership leading to today’s universal access. \nThe Beach House is another step forward in the City of Santa Monica’s commitment to sustainability – it has been awarded a Gold LEED rating from the US Green Building Council. \nToday\n \nThe site opened to the public as the Annenberg Community Beach House on April 25\, 2009. The Beach House combines elements of the historic Marion Davies Estate with new amenities to create a truly unique community destination that’s open to all – no membership required. For teens ages 13–19 years old. Masks are required. \nHey Teens\, Get Your Game On!\n\n\nStop by the Main Library to play Nintendo Switch\, PS4 & also take turns playing virtual reality OCULUS!\n\n\n\n6 Cognitive Benefits of VR For Kids\n\nResearch indicates that kids who play VR games that focus on training the brain have better fine motor skills and balance. Brews Brothers are our take on serving an ever-changing selection of the best beers in LA’s growing craft beer market. \n \nNorth Hollywood: \nOur dynamic forty-two taps include combinations of American strong ales\, Belgian strong ales\, Barrel Aged beers\, IPAs\, light beers\, wheat beers\, unique one-offs\, and various other styles. \n \nWe also have house-made Kombucha\, three beers on nitro\, and a couple of seasonal ciders. We interchange our taps often\, replacing existing beers with ones of similar styles\, so there is always something new to try! \n \nOur food menu consists of artisan sandwiches\, fresh salads\, and several small bite options. All food is made with high-quality ingredients – no hormones\, no chemicals\, and no preservatives. \nWHO ARE THE BREWS BROTHERS?\n \nBillie and Joey have been involved with the LA Craft Beer scene for over a decade – watching it grow from nearly nothing to the massive and ever-expanding market it is today. \nOver the years the brothers have watched and helped numerous beer bars and restaurant owners successfully open and operate their establishments. \nBillie and Joey have brewed over 240 batches of beer along with a few collaborations with some of the more established breweries in California. They intend to continue to collaborate with more breweries in the future. \nDuring their many visits to Belgium\, along with numerous trips around the country\, they previewed many beer shops and were impressed with the large variety of beer selections offered. They knew they had the experience and passion for creating something similar at home. \nBillie and Joey now bring this love\, knowledge\, and expertise to bring you “BREWS BROTHERS” \nHOURS\nMonday – Thursday: 4:00 pm – 10:00 pm\nFriday – Saturday: 12:00 pm – 12:00 am\nSunday: 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.brewsbrotherscraftbeer.com/the-brewery\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:VENICE ELECTRIC LIGHT PARADE
DESCRIPTION:EVERY SUNDAY AT SUNSET @ The Venice Sign \nMarcus Gladney created the Venice Electric Light Parade to bring together bike enthusiasts who love to light up their bikes and set out into the night along the beautiful Venice Beach boardwalk. Got a fancy two wheeler? Perhaps a chromed out\, spoked up low rider with a banana seat and some Ape hangers?  Maybe even a three wheeler trike with a sick ass sound system?  A custom beach cruiser with enough LED’s to light up LAX?  Whatever your jam\, you will be in good company at the VELP! \n \n“We are a group of Bicycle fanatics who ride every Sunday at Sunset in Venice Beach promoting Bicycle Safety.  Come join us for the Electric Light Parade must have safety lights and wheel lights will be available for purchase.  We meet every Sunday at Sunset\, at Windward Plaza on the Boardwalk\, down from the World famous Venice Sign.” The group travels up the Venice Bike Path to the Venice Pier\, in Marina del Rey at Hinano’s Bar. \n  \nVenice Beach\, which served as a US hippy hub of the 1960s\, is now seeing dozens of locals cruising its boardwalk late at night with brightly glowing rides. \nThe bicycle enthusiasts say they fit right in with the hundreds of performers\, artists and musicians that already call Venice Beach home. \n \n\nThis event promotes Bicycle Safety at Night.  As much as 100 people show up each Sunday night for a chance to join the community for few hours of fun. Meet new people! Have some fun! Everyone welcome! All ages\, all bikes. \n \nGet Your Glow On at the Venice Electric Light Parade\nWheel Lights are NOT required to ride. But they are fun. \nTo learn more about the family-friendly event\, visit: \nwww.facebook.com/pg/VeniceElectricLightParade/ \n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

In fact\, they tend to have better mobility overall.\nVR gaming improves spatial attention in children and gives them the ability to quickly locate a target in a field of distractors\, which has proven to be a good predictor of driving ability.\nPlaying VR games\, which often resemble actual real-world experiences\, helps children translate the skills they learned in these educational VR environments to the real world.\nAccording to recent research\, children that play shooting games have increased vision capabilities. Scientists have found that the fast-paced games increase adrenaline and dopamine in the brain which helps maintain and improve brain health.\nVR gaming increases mental flexibility and improves a child’s ability to quickly switch seamlessly between tasks with conflicting demands.\nVR games are a great way to reduce stress and depression in children.
