The Venice Oceanarium emphasizes the powerful and enduring emotional and aesthetic influences of the oceans on human culture. \nOUR VISION is to build a permanent exhibit on the Venice Pier that educates and inspires visitors about the unique and wondrous life forms in our local ocean. \n\nAbout Venice Oceanarium\nBack in 1995 our founder\, Tim Rudnick\, organized a weekend-long marathon reading of Moby-Dick at the Venice Beach breakwater. Reliving life aboard a whaling ship and Melville’s soul-searching journey while the group huddled for warmth on the sand was a transformative experience. Tim realized the importance of learning outside of the traditional classroom and founded the Venice Oceanarium\, a Museum Without Walls. \n \nThis concept of blending the arts and sciences is the core of our programming. We believe that our integrative curriculum inspires kids of all ages to be stewards of our precious oceans. \nOver the years we’ve expanded our outreach to include our highly anticipated annual grunion party\, weekly Marine Biology pop-up labs at the end of the Venice Pier\, classes at local schools and youth centers\, tidepool talks\, wetland walks\, and other excursions. \nVenice Beach: An Urban Coastal Park\n \nVenice Beach is a wonderful juxtaposition of urban life and natural wonder. Just steps from the world-famous Venice Beach Boardwalk’s street artists and performers are miles of beautiful shoreline to explore. Wide sandy beaches\, crashing waves\, shells\, seaweed\, birds\, and other wildlife coexist with surfers\, sunbathers\, and sandcastles. \nThe tidepools at the Venice Beach Breakwater are teeming with wildlife (to be enjoyed with your eyes only) as the iconic and colorful Venice graffiti walls loom in the background. There’s a secret reef\, and beautiful wetlands\, and on a clear day\, you can see Malibu and Catalina Island. \nMillions of locals and visitors enjoy our beaches. Few stop to really appreciate the rare treasures it has to offer. Our mission is to excite\, engage and inspire kids of all ages to appreciate our unique urban coast. \nExperiential Learning\n \nThe Venice Oceanarium is a Museum Without Walls. Our programs combine science with the arts to encourage kids (of all ages) to appreciate the environment and therefore become stewards of our oceans. The Forest Lawn Museum first opened in 1952 and is located adjacent to the Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection at Forest Lawn – Glendale.  Forest Lawn’s founder\, Dr. Hubert Eaton\, wrote in his Builder’s Creed that our park should be “a place where artists study and sketch; where school teachers bring happy children to see the things they read of in books.” In that spirit\, the Forest Lawn Museum displays a permanent collection\, as well as world-class rotating exhibits. With engaging special exhibits and free educational and artistic activities\, there is always something new to experience. \n \nForest Lawn Museum is located within Forest Lawn-Glendale (1712 S. Glendale Ave\, Glendale\, CA 91205). Enter the main gate on Glendale Ave and follow signs to the top of the hill. Chace Park \nwas first opened in 1972 at 13650 Mindanao Way in Marina del Rey\, California and was named in honor of the Father of the Marina and long-time Los Angeles County Supervisor\, Burton W. Chace.  The Park hours are from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm 7 days a week while the Office hours are from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm 7 days a week. Burton W. Chace Park offers multi-purpose rooms\, picnic tables\, barbecues\, pergolas\, picnic shelters\, outdoor programs\, great harbor viewing areas\, guest docks\, and is host to numerous year-round events. Admission is free. The Marina del Rey water bus offers rides around the Marina for $1.00. There are always a number of Events going on in the Park throughout the year\, including the Discover Marina del Rey Day where you can meet the Chace Family the first Sunday of each October. \n \nThe Park has a Community Room for which reservations may be made for your community event and great outdoor facilities. This web site was established by the Chace Family as a resource on the history of the Park\, Burton W. Chace’s many accomplishments and contributions to the County of Los Angeles\, and a place where you may enjoy photos of the lovely Park and find detailed news on Events and the future of this wonderful Park. \nBurton W. Chace Park: 10 acres of lush lawn and trees extend into the Marina’s main channel offering magnificent boat and ocean vistas. Built-in barbecue grills and tables invite picnicing. The free outdoor summer concerts run from July through September each year on Thursday and Saturday nights. \nIf you are into cycling\, the Park is located on the South Bay Bicycle Trail which spans from Will Rogers State Beach to the north in Pacific Palisades to Torrance County Beach in the South at the base of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and the Park is located about halfway between the two points making it an ideal stop along the way. \nBurton W. Chace Park has been the site of many weddings\, scenes on television shows including the OC\, and is home to a wealth of community events throughout the year. The Park office displays historical photographs of Santa Monica\, Playa del Rey\, and the canals of Venice in 1905\, when they were new. Chace Park is a stunning destination in the Marina. Jutting out into the main channel\, it offers one of the best viewing areas of the harbor with water views on three sides. Hit the flat\, paved walking path along the perimeter a morning walk\, or relax on a bench to watch the sunset. The park is wheelchair and stroller accessible. \n \nVIRTUAL TOUR\n \nCovered picnic pavilions and a smattering of uncovered tables\, all with barbecue access\, make for a great family gathering. Picnic Pavilion A and an indoor multipurpose room are available to reserve by calling the park office at 424-526-7903. All other tables are first come\, first served. Gatherings of 50 people or more need to contact the park office for an event permit. \n \nBurton Chace Park is the site of many community events and festivals\, including the Old Fashioned Day in May\, the Summer Concert Series in July and August\, Marina Spooktacular in October\, and Marina Lights in December. If any symptoms are present\,\nyou may not enter the facility.\nThough there is not a mask mandate for the outdoor areas of the garden\, there is one for entering buildings (including restrooms) on City property.\nMaintain social distancing of 6 ft. from non-household members while on City property.\n\nPlease note that in case of significant rain within 24 hours of your scheduled visit time The Garden will be closed.\nYou should email the “contact the event organizer” link the day of your visit if rain occurs to verify.\nIn addition\, all regular Garden visiting rules (see “Garden Etiquette”) apply during your time slot. DESCRIPTION:EVERY 1st SUNDAY & 3rd SATURDAY- Wilson Park\, Torrance\nSouthern California Live Steamers provides mini-train rides on public run days every first Sunday of the month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and every third Saturday of the month from noon to 3 p.m. All SCLS members are City of Torrance volunteers with annual fingerprint clearance and are not paid for their time expended on maintaining the trains and facility\, and providing the rides.Donations are appreciated. \n  \n \nIn 1987\, for the Torrance 75th anniversary event\, the City of Torrance asked SCLS if they could set up a small track on the back end of Wilson Park. At the time this was a vacant lot\, no trees and only weeds for vegetation. Considerable effort was expended by both the City and SCLS to prepare the area and lay the tracks necessary to run the trains. During the City’s 75th Anniversary Celebration in October 1987\, the free train rides were so well received by the public that the City sought to have SCLS run the trains on a regular basis. On May 11\, 1990\, the City and SCLS entered into a 25-year License Agreement allowing SCLS to provide free train rides at Wilson Park on a regular basis. A new home was found! \nANOTHER 25 YEARS \nThe mini-train rides have become a popular feature of Wilson Park. Originally\, free train rides were offered once a month on the first Sunday of each month. Today\, SCLS provides free train rides twice a month on the first Sunday and third Saturday of each month\, and on special occasions. The City and SCLS entered into another 25-year lease agreement thru May 11\, 2040. \nSouthern California Live Steamers\, Inc. operates as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization under IRS rules and is a registered California non-profit corporation. All of the income for the operation of SCLS is derived by donations from its members\, passengers and corporate sponsors\, and thru fundraisers. SCLS does not charge the passengers for rides on public run days\, though donations are accepted from our riders on public run days which is on the 1st Sunday and 3rd Saturday of each month. Funds received are used to pay SCLS expenses such as insurance\, maintenance costs\, facility upgrades\, fuel\, track repairs\, future track projects\, and other expenses.
