Fusing Alice in Wonderland with the Duchampian tradition of the readymade\, Artist Robert Therrien constructs a doppelganger from an everyday object\, both displaying his visual wit and actualizing literary or imaginative fantasy in three-dimensional space. The table exudes an extraordinary aura\, compelling one to walk underneath the table and conjuring the physical memory of being under the table of one’s childhood home. Complicated and powerful\, the work offers fresh ideas of what a table\, sculpture\, and memory can mean. \n  \n  \n \nUsing the recognizable form of a balloon twisted into the shape of a dog\, Koons has frozen a moment in time\, exaggerating both scale and material. \nBalloon Dog (Blue) is literal and abstract. In its original sense\, the term “museum” meant a spot dedicated to the muses – “a place where man’s mind could attain a mood of aloofness above everyday affairs.” By far the most important museum of antiquity was the great institution at Alexandria founded by Ptolemy Philadelphus in the third century before Christ\, (an endeavor supported by a grant from the treasury). And no treatment of the museum would be complete without mention of Noah’s Ark in which we find the complete Museum of Natural History the world has ever seen. \nThe Museum of Jurassic Technology traces its origins to this period when many of the essential collections of today were beginning to take form. DESCRIPTION:TONIGHT- The Hammer Museum\nThe Hammer Museum presents a free screening of \n\n\n\nBELOW DREAMS\n\nAdapted from interviews she conducted with passengers she met on a Greyhound bus traveling from New York to New Orleans\, director Garrett Bradley’s impressive feature debut follows three 20-somethings—an unemployed father\, a single mom\, and a new transplant from New York—on parallel journeys into adulthood inflected by their different experiences of race\, class\, and gender. Through Bradley’s keen and poetic sense of place and time\, New Orleans itself\, a city in transition\, becomes a character in the film presenting obstacles and inspiration\, dead ends and leaping-off points. Altogether\, it’s a kaleidoscopic vision of the intermingling of inner and outer worlds that pointed towards Bradley’s groundbreaking work to come\, including her extraordinary Oscar-nominated feature documentary\, Time (2020). \n(2014\, dir. Garrett Bradley\, digital file\, color\, 82 min.) \n\n\n\n\n\nIT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO LEARN TO PLOW BY READING BOOKS\n\nBefore achieving international acclaim with Slacker\, Richard Linklater made this startling and little-seen precursor in Super 8mm on a budget of $3\,000\, shooting and starring in the film himself—often by turning the camera on and walking into the scene. It loosely follows slacker Linklater’s travels across the country\, and his meetings with friends and strangers. But the real tale is in its depiction of that moment some find in their 20s\, adrift in the world with time aplenty and no real destination. Linklater walks through it all in a dream. Outsider musician Daniel Johnston also makes an appearance. \n(1988\, dir.
