SUMMARY:Hollywood Heritage Museum
DESCRIPTION:OPEN EVERY FRIDAY-SUNDAY- Hollywood\nThe Hollywood Heritage Museum\, is located in the Lasky-DeMille Barn\, which was built in 1901.  The story of the early Hollywood motion picture industry and the historic Hollywood community is told through archival photographs\, historic documents\, movie props and related memorabilia.  Visitors experience the actual structure where Cecil B. DeMille’s office exists\, furnished with selected personal DeMille belongings\, and where countless movies were filmed and studio staff worked and played. \nOn December 27\, 1956\, the Lasky-DeMille Barn was designated California State Historic Landmark No. 554\, recognizing the significant role the building played in the birth of the Hollywood motion picture industry.  Since 1985\, Hollywood Heritage\, Inc. has funded the preservation\, restoration and maintenance of the barn. It’s the oldest existing motion picture production building in Hollywood\, having been established as the Burns-Revier Studio in 1912\, and becoming the Jesse L. Lasky Feature Play Company in 1913.  The Lasky Company merged with Adolph Zuckor’s Famous Players in 1916\, becoming Famous Players-Lasky and merging with Paramount Distributing Company\, finally becoming Paramount Pictures Corporation. In 2014\, the Lasky-DeMille Barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [See the Time Line on the Museum link for a more detailed history of the barn]. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nVISITING THE MUSEUM\nThe Hollywood Heritage Museum is open Friday\, Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4 pm. As we share our ample parking lot with the Hollywood Bowl\, the museum is occasionally closed when the Bowl has an event.  If you are traveling a long way to visit us\, it might be a good idea to phone first to make sure we are open: (323) 874-2276. \n\n\nPARKING\nParking is free. There is a large parking area on the east side of Highland Avenue\, in front of the museum.  There is no entrance facing Highland Avenue.  You have to go around the corner either on Milner Road or Odin Street and immediately turn into the lot.  If there are parking lot attendants at a barricade\, tell them that you are visiting the museum. \nPUBLIC TRANSPORTATION\nThe Metro subway station closest to the Museum is the Hollywood-Highland stop.  We are located approximately a half-mile north on Highland Avenue\, about a 12-minute walk. \nBECOME A DOCENT:\nHollywood Heritage is a volunteer driven organization. Our docents assist museum guests and help with our Barn programs\, as well as many other activities associated with historic preservation issues and the day-to-day activities that make our organization so vital.  If you are interested in becoming involved\, click here. \n  \n \nHOLLYWOOD HERITAGE ARCHIVE:\nHollywood Heritage maintains an archive of historic photographs\, documents\, and other material related to the film industry and the community.  Our archive also includes considerable holdings on Hollywood real estate history and buildings of architectural significance.  We continue to seek material related to our dual mission of industry and community history.  Questions regarding our archive and donations procedures should be directed to our Collections Manager\, Richard Adkins. \nDONATION OF PHYSICAL ITEMS:\nHollywood Heritage welcomes donations both monetary and physical objects.  Donated items fall into two categories. \nFor resale in the Museum Store:  The museum store contains new and used items.  The older items are all donated to Hollywood Heritage and include books on the motion picture industry and its participants\, and books on the Los Angeles area.  It also includes used DVDs\, VHS tapes and other electronic storage of motion pictures\, as well as related items. These types of donated items can be dropped off at the museum along with the donor’s name and address so that\, if desired\, donor recognition and/or a tax letter can be provided by the Collections Manager. \nFor Hollywood Heritage Archive:  These are items that Hollywood Heritage’s curator agrees are compatible with our collection.  An appointment may be set up with our Collections Manager.  Much of the collection has been donated by individuals and families with relatives who contributed to the film industry and the Hollywood community\, often with the goal of preserving their relatives’ participation in Hollywood. We are also interested in photographs or other documentation of any properties in Hollywood\, as we maintain an archive of each property by address.  For further information about donations you may contact our museum manager. \nHollywood Heritage\, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 California state non-profit corporation.  All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.  We will be happy to provide a receipt for donations for tax purposes. \n\n  \n  \n \nAdmission:\nHollywood Heritage members:  Free! (Join at the door or online). \nAdults: $10 \nChildren under 12:  FREE! \nHours\nFriday – Sunday: 12:00pm – 4:00pm\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.hollywoodheritage.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Good Times at Davey Wayne's
DESCRIPTION:EVERY SUNDAY – Hollywood\nGood Times at Davey Wayne’s in Hollywood presents Strange Hotels\, every Sunday night.  Featuring 70’s DJ sets\, an energetic and charismatic host\, and a live performance by Strange Hotels\, it’s a whole ass vibe. \n  \n \nStrange Hotels- Indie- Electro Rock Duo\nOpening to a buzzing crowd of all ages\, cultures\, and persuasions–in an eclectic industrial atmosphere complete with burlesque dancers\, smoke machines\, and incense – the barefoot duo delivered an energetic set of life and synthesized dance sound and know-how-to to keep their audience engaged. Their continuous energetic\, driven show resulted in a bumper-to-bumper dance floor as they performed to a packed house of diverse\, die-hard hipster fans. \n \n\nAfter touring for years as a part of Portland’s iconic touring band The Lower 48\, cousins Ben Braden and Nick Sadler formed their indie-electro duo Strange Hotels in early 2018\, and within weeks of forming the duo\, they had the opportunity to open for Billie Eilish and Finneas at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland. Their songs have also been featured in several TV shows including Shameless\, Viceʼs King Of The Road\, and Conan O’Brien’s Needs a Friend.  They have described Strange Hotels as the most collaborative project they have been a part of and are a sonic blend of dance\, R&B\, vintage pop\, and indie rock.  They have taken a very DIY approach to record their songs\, recording and producing their music solely on iPads.  This allowed them to record in Airbnb’s and apartment studios on the road and\, as a result\, they released their debut and well-received EP Mixtape in January of 2018. They moved to Los Angles in 2019 and booked a residency at their favorite club\, booked other gigs\, and wrote a new batch of songs\, releasing their second EP\, Mixtape II\, at the end of 2019.  Going through some hard times during the pandemic and shutdowns in the music industry\, with things having opened back up\, they have been staying busy!   They recently released their latest single “Teen Dream Fantasy”\, a dreamy hit that strikes a chord of nostalgia with uplifting and energetic production\, captivating synth work\, and a stellar groove\, produced by The Strokes’ producer Gordon Raphael. \n\n \n1611 North El Centro Avenue\, Los Angeles\, CA 90028 \n \nDavid Wayne Houston\, father to Mark and Jonnie Houston\, was a blue-collar pool shark who enjoyed late nights in his garage building and fixing things–some of the brothers’ best memories. SUMMARY:The Hollywood Cross
DESCRIPTION:The Hollywood Cross\, is better known by it’s official name as the Hollywood Pilgrimage Memorial Monument. And if you’ve ever driven on the 101 freeway through Hollywood\, then you’ve probably have noticed the giant\, illuminated cross on top of a hill just to the north of the Cahuenga exit. \n \nThe Hollywood Cross is a memorial to Christine Stevenson\, a founding member of the Theatre Arts Alliance\, the group who built the Hollywood Bowl. The Alliance began producing plays exclusively with religious themes\, but some members wanted to branch out with some productions of a more secular nature. \n  \n \nMs. Stevenson had no interest in secular productions and in 1920 she built the Pilgrimage Theatre\, named after her new production\, the Pilgrimage Play. \nWhen Stevenson died in 1922\, the Pilgrimage continued to put on the Pilgrimage Play until 1964 when a lawsuit brought the play’s run to its end. This legal action stemmed from concerns about the separation of church and state that came about in 1941\, after the County of Los Angeles was deeded the theatre and the land it was on. \nIn 1976\, The Pilgrimage was renamed John Anson Ford Amphitheater in honor of the former L.A. County Supervisor and today it’s known simply as The Ford. \n  \n \nThe Many Iterations of the Hollywood Cross\nIn 1923\, in honor of Ms. Stevenson\, a giant wooden cross was placed on the hilltop above the Pilgrimage Theater. It was lit up in the evening when her play was being performed in the amphitheater below. \nIn 1993 the current monument — a 32-foot tall memorial of steel and opaque plastic — was put in place and dubbed the Hollywood Pilgrimage Memorial Monument. Two years later\, it was named the Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #617. \n\nHow to get to the Hollywood Cross\nTo visit the Cross from the Ford Theatre\, walk south along Cahuenga Boulevard East. Right before the intersection with Cahuenga Terrace\, on top of a retaining wall\, you’ll see a narrow trail leading up the hill. This isn’t the most obvious of trails\, so you’ll have to look closely. \nThe hike is short\, but the trail is quite steep. The path isn’t well marked or well groomed\, so come prepared with proper shoes. The hike is challenging\, but eventually you will come to the  top of the hill at the base of the Hollywood Cross. From the top of the hill the views are spectacular. \n  \n\nWhere to Park When Hiking to the Hollywood Cross\nThere’s no parking along Cahuenga Boulevard. Find parking on Cahuenga Terrace\, a small side street just to the south of the cross. Or\, depending on the time of day (and if you’re feeling bold)\, you can park in the Ford Theatre’s nearby lot. \nThe Hollywood Cross is now owned by The Church On The Way in Van Nuys\, California. \n\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

DESCRIPTION:YOGA CLASSES- Hollywood\n\n\n\nHollywood Forever Cemetery presents Morning Yoga Classes every day but Friday starting at 9:30am. In Buddhist and Hindu teachings\, the Graveyard\, or Charnal grounds\, is a favored place of practice where yogis must confront our mortal destiny\, our fear of death\, and our aversion to impermanence. \n  \n \nIn the Summer of 2020\, as our favorite indoor Yoga studios were forced to close and we found ourselves less compliant in ZOOM classes\, a few of us started coming to Hollywood Forever to practice safely together in the mornings. \nWe are now honored to offer this experience to all yogis\, from beginners to advanced\, looking to deepen their practice in a safe outdoor setting with green grass and quacking ducks. \nWe practice on the Hollywood Forever Cemetery Fairbanks Lawn\, where Cinespia movies are screened\, so there is ample space to spread out and safely distance as you enrich your practice with our sangha community. \n \nAttendance Tips:Cost: Donation based \nParking: FREE!
