For over fifty years\, Robert Graham’s observation of the female form and use of scale allowed him to explore and create a range of intimate sized works and large public monuments\, widely celebrated for their precise iconic detail. \nThe sculptures were originally part of CRA/LA’s mission in 1985 to incorporate public art in redevelopment projects and revitalize Downtown Los Angeles. The four sculptures are currently situated in an exterior landscaped setting that Graham’s son\, Steven Graham\, consulted on as part of the renovation at Wells Fargo Center. \n  \n \nRobert Graham\, was a Mexican born sculptor\, and although you may not be familiar with his name\, you probably ARE familiar with some of his work. DESCRIPTION:A LITTLE BIT OF TOKYO IN LITTLE TOKYO- Japanese American National Museum\n\nThe James Irvine Japanese Garden is a traditional Japanese Garden located on the Little Tokyo campus of the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center. The garden is open to the public for enjoyment seven days a week between 10am and 4pm unless there is a special event. The Garden also serves as a unique and elegant venue for weddings\, photo shoots\, memorial services and other private events. \n\n\n\nHistory\n\nEstablished in 1981. \nA centerpiece of the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center\, the Garden also known as Seiryu-en or the Garden of the Clear Stream\, was constructed by more than 200 volunteers who contributed more than 3\,000 man-hours. The garden was designed by landscape architect Dr. Takeo Uesugi and received the National Landscape Award in 1981\, the nation’s highest award for environmental improvement and community beautification. Most recently\, the James Irvine Japanese Garden underwent a major restoration with the purpose of creating a revitalized green space in downtown Los Angeles and sharing the aesthetics of Japanese culture with the community. The James Irvine Garden has served the community\, for nearly three decades\, by providing a tranquil and elegant departure from the urban landscape. DESCRIPTION:FIRST SATURDAY DROP-IN TOUR- UCLA\nThe Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden (MEMBG) is a living museum\, having special collections designed to assist the undergraduate teaching mission at UCLA and to augment the capability for research on campus. MEMBG serves as a long-term repository for unusual plants\, a refugium for biodiversity. This facility offers its educational content to the campus community\, residents of Los Angeles\, and visitors from around the world to enhance learning about plants and promote greater appreciation for relevance of plants to society \nThe Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden seeks to promote botanical knowledge and appreciation of nature to the UCLA community and public at large. Its diverse plant collections are designed to assist the teaching and research missions at UCLA while creating a tranquil environment within the urban surroundings. The Garden acts as a community gathering place for a wide variety of groups and through its own events promotes plant conservation\, botanical research and horticulture. \nExplore our living museum featuring collections of plants from around the globe! Join a Garden Educator for a free guided tour of the garden on the first Saturday of the month at 1pm. We’ll hear the stories of a selection of plants in the garden\, and their relevance to human society. All ages are welcome. We will meet at the La Kretz Garden Pavilion at the northern end of the garden. Plan your visit here. \n  \n\n \nPlan Your Visit\nGarden admission is free. Multiple entrances welcome you to the Garden. Bus stops are at the intersection of Le Conte and Hilgard Ave. Paid visitor parking is nearby at UCLA Parking Structure 2 and metered spaces in Westwood Village. The La Kretz Garden Pavilion is located at 707 Tiverton Drive\, Los Angeles\, CA 90095. \nHours\nFebruary – October\nMonday – Friday: 8AM to 5PM \nSaturday – Sunday: 9AM to 5PM \n  \nNovember – January\nMonday – Friday: 8AM to 4PM \nSaturday – Sunday: 9AM to 4PM \nUCLA Holidays: 9AM to 5PM. Closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
