Straight from California family farms to your table. Bon appetit! \nBegun in 1977\, the Certified Farmers Market (CFM) program exempted farmers from prior packing\, sizing and labeling requirements. According to the California Department of Food & Agriculture\, this has a number of benefits to consumers and the agricultural community: CFMs — \n\n\nBring fresh\, high quality goods from producers and create a diverse market. \n\n\n Give consumers opportunities to meet the farmer and learn how their food supply is produced. \n\n\n Provide a great opportunity for small farmers to market their products without the added expenses of commercial preparation. This increases their net income and makes it possible for them to stay in business. \n\n\n Offer a flexible marketing alternative without disrupting other produce marketing systems. \n\n\nThere are approximately 800 Certified Farmers Markets in California and approximately 2\,500 certified producers. Of these markets\, 50% are year-round markets. The balance are seasonal\, generally operating from April through October. \n\nHours\n4th Sunday of the Month: 10:00am – 2:00pm\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.marvistafarmersmarket.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Getty Center Central Garden
DESCRIPTION:ADMISSION IS FREE – PARKING IS NOT- Sepulveda Pass\nPerched atop a hill overlooking Los Angeles\, the Getty Center is a renowned museum housing a vast collection of art. But beyond the grand galleries lies a hidden gem: Getty Center Robert Irwin’s Central Garden\, a captivating fusion of art\, nature\, and light. This four-acre masterpiece is not merely a backdrop for the museum; it’s an artistic experience in itself\, inviting visitors to connect with the beauty of the natural world. \n \n \nA Canvas of Light and Landscape\nRenowned artist Robert Irwin envisioned the Central Garden as a living sculpture. Opened in 1997\, the garden transcends the traditional notion of landscaped spaces. Here\, the focus is on the interplay of light\, water\, and meticulously chosen plants\, creating a dynamic and ever-changing environment. \nImmerse Yourself in Light and Shadow: \nAs you enter the Central Garden\, prepare to be enveloped by a symphony of light and shadow. The garden is designed to capture and manipulate natural light throughout the day\, creating shifting patterns and textures. Walkways meander through the space\, each turn revealing a new interplay of light on the foliage and water features. \nA Celebration of California Flora: \nThe Central Garden is a love letter to California’s native plants. Lush greenery\, vibrant wildflowers\, and mature trees create a diverse tapestry of textures and colors. The careful selection of plants not only adds visual interest but also reflects the surrounding Californian landscape. \nWater as a Guiding Element: \nWater plays a central role in the Central Garden’s design. A cascading stream winds through the space\, creating a soothing sound and a shimmering reflection of the sky. A central pool serves as a focal point\, its still surface mirroring the ever-changing light and clouds above. \n \nA Space for Contemplation and Connection\nThe Central Garden is more than just a visual spectacle; it’s a place for introspection and connection with nature. The serene atmosphere invites visitors to slow down\, disconnect from the outside world\, and appreciate the beauty of the natural world around them. \nFind a Quiet Corner: \nBenches are strategically placed throughout the garden\, offering moments of respite and reflection. Take a seat\, listen to the sounds of water and birdsong\, and allow yourself to be enveloped by the tranquility of the space. \nConnect with Nature Through Art: \nIrwin’s vision blurs the lines between art and nature. The Central Garden is a testament to how art can enhance our appreciation of the natural world. By experiencing the garden\, visitors can gain a new perspective on the beauty and complexity of nature. \n\nEnhance Your Visit to the Getty Center\nThe Central Garden is a free add-on to your visit to the Getty Center. Here are some tips to maximize your experience: \n\nPlan your visit: The Getty Center can get crowded\, especially on weekends. Consider arriving early or visiting during off-peak hours.\nWear comfortable shoes: The Central Garden is vast and best explored on foot.\nBring a water bottle: Staying hydrated is important\, especially on hot days.\nEmbrace the sensory experience: Pay attention to the subtle details – the feel of the sun on your skin\, the sound of birds chirping\, and the scent of blooming flowers.\n\nRobert Irwin’s Central Garden offers a unique opportunity to experience art and nature in perfect harmony. So\, on your next visit to the Getty Center\, don’t miss the chance to escape into this serene haven of light and beauty. \nHOURS\nMonday: CLOSED\nTuesday – Sunday: 10:00 am – 5:30 pm \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \ngetty.edu/art/collection\n \n  \nFind more

The collection features in-depth holdings of influential contemporary artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Mark Bradford\, Jasper Johns\, Jeff Koons\, Barbara Kruger\, Yayoi Kusama\, Kerry James Marshall\, Julie Mehretu\, Takashi Murakami\, Robert Rauschenberg\, Ed Ruscha\, Cindy Sherman\, Cy Twombly\, Andy Warhol\, and more\, plus an ever-growing representation of younger artists. \n  \nView Our Collection Here\n \nIn Under the Table\, 1994\, the viewer is both in the world of imaginary giants and in the world of remembered childhood. Fusing Alice in Wonderland with the Duchampian tradition of the readymade\, Artist Robert Therrien constructs a doppelganger from an everyday object\, both displaying his visual wit and actualizing literary or imaginative fantasy in three-dimensional space. The table exudes an extraordinary aura\, compelling one to walk underneath the table and conjuring the physical memory of being under the table of one’s childhood home. Complicated and powerful\, the work offers fresh ideas of what a table\, sculpture\, and memory can mean. \n  \n  \n \nUsing the recognizable form of a balloon twisted into the shape of a dog\, Koons has frozen a moment in time\, exaggerating both scale and material. \nBalloon Dog (Blue) is literal and abstract. When standing close to it\, one’s own distorted reflection bends around smooth pert curves. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission is Free\nThe Broad requires all visitors must reserve timed tickets in advance. Some exhibitions and events carry a separate charge. \n\n\n\n\n\nHours\nMonday: Closed\nTuesday – Wednesday: 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.\nThursday – Friday: 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.\nSaturday: 10:00 a.m.-8:00p.m.\nSunday: 10:00 a.m.-6:00p.m. \n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.thebroad.org\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:THE HAMMER MUSEUM
DESCRIPTION:FREE FOR GOOD! Westwood Village\nThe Hammer Museum champions the art and artists who challenge us to see the world in a new light\, to experience the unexpected\, to ignite our imaginations\, and inspire change. \n\nThe Hammer understands that art not only has the power to transport us through aesthetic experience but can also provide significant insight into some of the most pressing cultural\, political\, and social questions of our time. We share the unique and invaluable perspectives that artists have on the world around us. \nA vibrant intellectual and creative nexus\, the Hammer is fueled by dynamic exhibitions and programs—including lectures\, symposia\, film series\, readings\, and musical performances—that spark meaningful encounters with art and ideas. \nAnd through our unwavering commitment to free admission and free public programs\, the Hammer is open for all and FREE FOR GOOD.\n  \n\n \n\nA BIGGER\, BETTER HAMMER MUSEUM\n\nIf oil magnate Armand Hammer were alive today\, he might marvel that the museum he launched in Westwood before his death in 1990 has evolved into one of the most forward-focused art institutions in Los Angeles. After all\, the museum was originally designed to house his fine collection of old-master paintings and drawings\, as well as works on paper by Honoré Daumier and his 19th-century contemporaries. \n\n\n\n\n\nBut in the ensuing decades\, as the art world has continued to evolve\, so has Los Angeles — and so has the Hammer Museum\, which is now a part of the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture. In 1994\, UCLA assumed management and operations of the museum\, and the Hammer kept its original purpose but also expanded its mission. Today\, the Hammer has a wide reputation for innovation and for showcasing new artists. \n  \n\nNew Contemporary Gallery\n\n  \n“L.A. has become a hotbed of contemporary art and artists\,” says Ann Philbin\, the museum’s director since 1999\, “and the Hammer has become a premier institution where they are shown.” \n  \n\n\n4th-Floor-Offices\n\n  \nUnder Philbin’s leadership\, the museum has expanded its collections and programs\, including establishing the Hammer Projects series of exhibitions and installations featuring local\, national and international emerging artists. It also launched the Made in L.A. biennial\, now in its fourth edition. Through these and other innovations\, the Hammer has quadrupled its attendance to about 250\,000 a year. \n  \nLindbrook Terrace\n  \nMeanwhile\, Occidental Petroleum\, which occupied the adjoining building\, relocated to Houston\, Texas. So the Hammer has begun a major\, multiyear expansion that will take the museum far into the 21st century. \nEarlier this year\, the Hammer announced a $180 million capital campaign. Almost half of those funds will be used to expand gallery and other public spaces\, while the rest will go toward exhibitions\, programming and an endowment. The museum has already raised more than $130 million\, including $30 million from L.A. philanthropists Lynda and Stewart ’59\, J.D. ’62 Resnick and $20 million from Hammer board chair Marcy Carsey. \n  \n  \nAnnex\n  \nThe renovations and additions being designed by Michael Maltzan Architecture\, who was commissioned in 2000 to create the museum’s 2003 master plan\, include: \n• A newly designed entrance at Wilshire and Westwood boulevards to maximize the museum’s visual presence at one of the nation’s busiest intersections. In the coming years\, the museum will also benefit from a planned Metro Purple Line station across Wilshire. \n• More than 10\,000 square feet of additional exhibition space for contemporary art. \n• New permanent collection galleries and a study room for the Grunwald Center Collection. \n• 20\,000 square feet of enhanced public spaces\, including a new restaurant. \n• A new and more accessible Hammer Store. \n  \n  \n2nd Floor B Side\n  \nIn all\, the expansion will provide 60 percent more gallery space for exhibitions. The museum will remain open during construction\, and admission will continue to be free. “We’re accessible to everyone\, and that keeps people coming back\,” Philbin says. “L.A. has been growing as one of the world’s most exciting cultural creative communities\, and the museum has grown alongside it.” \n  \n\n  \nBookstore\nHISTORY OF THE HAMMER MUSEUM\nThe Hammer Museum opened to the public in November 1990. Founded by Dr. Armand Hammer\, former Chairman of Occidental Petroleum Corporation\, the Museum was designed by architect Edward Larrabee Barnes. Financed by Occidental\, the Museum was built adjacent to the Corporation’s international headquarters in Westwood. At that time\, the Museum featured galleries for Dr. Hammer’s collections — old master paintings and drawings\, and a collection of works on paper by Honore Daumier and his contemporaries — as well as galleries for traveling exhibitions. Dr. Hammer passed away in December 1990\, three weeks after the opening of the Museum leaving many spaces unfinished. \nIn 1992\, the Museum began negotiations with its neighbor\, University of California\, Los Angeles (UCLA)\, to assume the management and operations of the institution. In April 1994\, the partnership with UCLA was finalized and the following year the University relocated its collections and the staff of the Wight Art Gallery and the Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts to the Hammer. The Museum also assumed responsibility for the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden\, located at the north end of the UCLA campus. \nHenry Hopkins\, then director of the Wight gallery and professor in the Department of Art\, became director of the Museum until his retirement in 1998. In 1999 Ann Philbin was named director and has developed a strong and original institutional identity and built a national and international reputation for thematic contemporary exhibitions\, scholarly historical exhibitions\, and contemporary artists’ projects. During her tenure the Hammer has formed a Hammer Contemporary Collection which now holds over 2\,000 artworks. In addition\, Philbin has overseen substantial renovations to the museum’s building\, including the completion of the 300-seat Billy Wilder Theater and museum café. With Philbin’s direction\, the museum instituted the internationally acclaimed Hammer Projects\, a series of more than one hundred contemporary exhibitions and installations featuring local\, national\, and international emerging artists. Philbin also created a series of dynamic public programs which are core to the Hammer’s identity and regularly feature many of the most influential authors\, artists\, and creative thinkers of our time. \n \n\nHours\nThe museum is open every day\, except Mondays\, July 4\, Thanksgiving\, Christmas\, and New Year’s Day. \nMonday: Closed\nTuesday – Friday: 11:00 a.m.-8:00p.m.\nSaturday & Sunday: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. \nAdmission to all exhibitions and public programs is free and open to the public. Free admission to the Hammer Museum is made possible through the generosity of Erika J Glazer and Brenda R. Potter. \n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhammer.ucla.edu\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Hike To The Hollywood Sign
DESCRIPTION:HIKING TO THE SIGN\nThe Hollywood Sign is the most famous icon of the city of Los Angeles\, and there are three routes below ranked from easy to difficult. The Mt Hollywood Trail\, The Brush Canyon Trail\, and The Cahuenga Peak Trail (currently closed)\n\nStunning views of the Hollywood Sign unfold at your own pace on hiking trails that meander through the rolling chaparral of the Santa Monica Mountains.  Trails originally blazed by paws\, hooves\, and yucca-thatched moccasins now connect us to cultural as well as natural wonders. The western frontier of Griffith Park offers hikers amazingly close encounters with the Sign\, which is off-limits to human hands\, just below the ridgeline at the 1\,708-foot summit of Mt. Lee. On the longest hike\, you can ascend above and behind the Sign’s 45-foot-tall aluminum letters\, where you look out over a windswept vista encompassing the DOOWYLLOH sign\, the dreamy towers of downtown Los Angeles\, and\, on a clear day\, the ageless blue Pacific.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom behind\, the Sign reads DOOWYLLOH\nAuthorized hiking trails are open the same hours as Griffith Park\, from Sunrise to Sunset\, 365 days a year.  While enjoying hiking\, please stay on authorized trails. \nPlease beware of the extreme fire danger on the trails\, parts of which are still recovering after a devastating wildfire in 2007. Trespassing is illegal. A LAPD officer is stationed near the Sign\, which is protected by a fence and security cameras 24 hours a day. Thank you. \n \nEasy Way:\nThe Mt. Hollywood Trail\, \noffering a mind-bending side-angle view of the Sign\, has two starting points in Griffith Park\, the 6.5 square miles of protected wilderness AKA the heart and lungs of Los Angeles (Hours: Sunrise – Sunset). The shorter loop hike of about three miles starts at Griffith Observatory’s parking lot\, which is free and fills up early on weekends. \nA slightly longer and steeper trail with fewer people starts on a fire road intersecting N. Vermont Canyon Rd.\, just past the Greek Theater\, where hardy hikers find plenty of street parking. \n\n \nThe Charlie Turner Trailhead marker \n\nThe most popular route up Mt. Hollywood\, the second highest peak in the park\, is suitable for families with children. It begins at the Charlie Turner Trailhead\, named to honor a longtime park volunteer. You can use the restrooms at the Observatory and ask a park ranger about conditions on the trail. Summer can be scorching up there\, so be sure and carry plenty of water. Sandals and flip-flops are not the best footwear in snake country. The trailhead sign and landscaping are at the north end of the Observatory parking lot. The hike begins with a short\, easy ascent along a ridge. \nLook for the Mt. Hollywood trailhead sign and landscaping at the north end of the Observatory parking lot. The hike (where leashed dogs are legal but unleashed ones common) isn’t likely to cross paths with P-22\, the mountain lion that traversed two freeways to take up residence in the wilds of Griffith Park in 2012. Start walking up a short\, easy ascent along a ridge through authentic wild chaparral where you may spot purple and orange wildflowers in the spring and red Toyon berries on California Holly bushes in the fall. In less than a half- mile\, you come upon a cooling grove of pine trees called the Berlin Forest\, planted by real Berliners to honor their sister-city status with Los Angeles. There are tables and benches\, and a beautiful view of the Hollywood Sign framed by pine boughs. Be on the lookout year-round for Zorro-masked Mountain Chickadees in the conifers and orange and yellow flame-headed Western Tanagers in the scrub. \n\nThe entrance to Dante’s View\nAfter another gently up-sloped half-mile\, you reach a four-way crossroads. The left fork goes around the west side of Mt. Hollywood toward a rest stop called Captain’s Roost. The right fork leads around the east side to a well-kept “folk” garden called Dante’s View. The Friends of Griffith Park have recently been planting and nurturing more native plants around the rest stop gardens\, which were severely burned in 2007. Both provide shade (there’s also a water fountain at Dante’s View) and restorative views of the Observatory and the city to the south and the Hollywood Sign to the west. The 1\,625-foot Mt. Hollywood summit is about one-quarter mile beyond both stops and consists of a coastal sage scrubby knob with protective railing. The slightly cockeyed view of the letters in the Hollywood Sign is from a perspective just a few degrees off dead center\, and almost directly at eye level. READ MORE \n\n \n\nMODERATE:\nThe Brush Canyon Trail\, \nalso part of Griffith Park\, features a fun side trip to Adam West’s Bat Cave\, home of the Batmobile in the 60’s Batman TV series. Locals know it as Bronson Caves\, and there’s a small parking lot close to the trailhead on Canyon Drive and an overflow dirt parking lot just down the road. The trail offers sensational views of the city and ends behind the Hollywood Sign. The old rock quarry tunnel has figured in many movies\, from 1925’s Riders of the Purple Sage to 2010’s Megashark vs. Crocosaurus. \n\n \nA view from the Brush Canyon Trail. hike \n\nThe 6.5-mile trail to the Sign climbs more than a thousand feet through several healthy ecosystems\, so hikers need to give it three hours and carry plenty of water. If there aren’t too many unleashed dogs\, you might see mule deer\, bobcats\, coyotes\, and rattlesnakes. Look up for Cooper’s Hawks soaring in the thermals over the Sign and down for honeybees probing the wildflowers. READ MORE \nNOTE: Reservations are NOT currently required on this hike. However\, access might be closed off during the day depending on overcrowding. \n \nDIFFICULT:CLOSED\nThe Cahuenga Peak Hike\,\nacross a short saddle from Mt. Lee\, runs through the latest 138-acre addition to Griffith Park and offers wide angle views of the Hollywood Reservoir and the San Fernando Valley. Suitable for the more experienced hiker\, it begins on the Aileen Getty Ridge Trail and includes the Hugh Hefner Overlook\, both named for two of the many benefactors and community activists who raised the money to save the land from a luxury housing development in 2012. \n \nThe trail is more rugged and less defined than the Canyon Blvd. trail. It includes the famous Wisdom Tree and traverses an area where the park’s resident mountain lion\, P-22\, has been spotted (usually after dark when the park is closed). The trail is open from sunrise to sunset. READ MORE \nHours\nOpen Daily: Sunrise – Sunset \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhollywoodsign.org/hiking-to-the-sign/\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:IAMLA Italian American Museum of Los Angeles
DESCRIPTION:TUESDAY TO SUNDAY  – Italian American Museum of Los Angeles\nThe Italian American Museum of Los Angeles\, or IAMLA\, is located in the historic Italian Hall\, which was constructed in 1908 to serve as a gathering place for the Italian community. Today\, the Italian Hall is the oldest remaining structure from Los Angeles’ Italian enclave and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. \n \nTHE HISTORY\nItalians and Italian Americans have played an instrumental role in the development of Los Angeles as one of the world’s greatest metropolises\, yet the history of Italians in the region is largely unknown. Though Los Angeles is home to the nation’s fifth-largest Italian population today\, and the Italian presence in the American West predates the nation’s founding\, seldom is the city included in dialogs surrounding contemporary or historic Italian American communities. An examination of the region’s Italian roots reveals both the complexity of the Italian Diaspora and the exceptionally diverse fabric of Southern California’s history. \n \nThe Los Angeles Italian experience contrasts with that of Italian immigrants elsewhere in the country and reveals the complexity of the Italian American diaspora. Given the success that Italian Americans have achieved in the United States\, it is easy to forget that they\, like other minority groups\, faced considerable prejudice and hostility in their struggle to achieve the American Dream. In the American South\, Italians were a common target of lynchings and racially-motivated violence. In the early 20th century\, eugenicists described Italians as genetically inferior\, while political cartoons of the era depicted Italians as threats to American security and racial purity. \nTHE MISSION\nThe mission of the Italian American Museum of Los Angeles is to foster a deeper understanding of Southern California’s diverse heritage through research\, historic preservation\, exhibitions\, and educational programs that examine the history and continuing contributions of Italian Americans in multi-ethnic Los Angeles and the United States. \nThe IAMLA is a charity that depends on donations to accomplish its specific mission. As such\, the IAMLA does entertain requests for financial support to fund other organizations\, charitable or otherwise\, nor does it provide financial resources to artists\, scholars\, filmmakers\, etc. The IAMLA does not fund exhibitions or theatrical or cinematic productions\, nor is the museum rented for such projects. \n\nHours\nMonday: Closed\nTuesday – Sunday: 10:00am – 3:00pm \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.iamla.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Los Angeles Maritime Museum
DESCRIPTION:WEDNESDAY TO SUNDAY – San Pedro\nDiscover the history of the Port of Los Angeles on land or at sea! Welcome to the Los Angeles Maritime Museum where our hardworking harbor tug ANGELS GATE provides educational tours while our historic museum building houses fascinating exhibits\, a research library\, a ham radio station\, and a gift shop. \nOPEN EVERY WEDNESDAY TO SUNDAY FROM 12:00 pm TO 5:00 pm\nFREE TO CHILDREN AGES 12 AND UNDER\n\n\n\nBerth 84\, Foot of 6th St.\, San Pedro\, CA 90731 \nThe Los Angeles Maritime Museum is housed in the former Municipal Ferry Terminal building\, located on the main channel of the Los Angeles Harbor. It was designed in the Streamline Moderne style by architect Derwood Lydell Irvin of the Los Angeles Harbor Department. It was built in 1941 at Berth 84\, by the Works Project Administration (WPA). \nThe ferry between San Pedro and Terminal Island ceased after the Vincent Thomas Bridge was opened to traffic in 1963. The building was then used for offices of the LA Harbor Department. The San Pedro Municipal Ferry Building is now a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. \nThe Los Angeles Maritime Museum opened in 1979 as a result of widespread community efforts to save the historic building. It is the largest maritime museum on the West Coast. The museum’s interior renovation was designed by Modernist architect James Pulliam. The museum is operated by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. \n\nEXHIBITS\nANGELS GATE TUGBOAT\n \nThe tugboat ANGELS GATE arrived at the Museum in 1992\, after almost 50 years of providing general towing services and goodwill tours for the Port of Los Angeles. \nTĀMINARU\n \nIn the early 20th century\, Terminal Island (in the Port of Los Angeles) was home to approximately 3\,000 Japanese-Americans who earned their livelihood from catching and cleaning fish. Residents of this community\, known as “Terminal Islanders” were originally from the Wakayama Prefecture\, Japan\, and retained their language and customs after emigrating to Los Angeles harbor. \nTāminaru is a look back at this lost community. The exhibit is guest curated by author Naomi Hirahara\, organized by Tara Fansler\, and sponsored by the Friends of the Los Angeles Maritime Museum and the Japan Business Association with the assistance of the Terminal Islanders Club. \nPOSEIDON MODEL\n \nThere is a movie star on the second floor! The model of the SS POSEIDON was the original prop in the 1972 classic film “The Poseidon Adventure”. \nFifteen men built the model over a period of three months. POSEIDON is 21 .5 feet long and weighs one ton. The builders relied on the plans of the RMS QUEEN MARY\, now permanently docked as an attraction in Long Beach\, California. \nNAVY HALL\n \nThe Museum building\, built-in 1941\, was originally used as a ferry terminal\, transporting people and automobiles between San Pedro and Terminal Island. The area of the first floor where cars would enter and exit is now used as the Navy Hall. \nANGELS GATE LIGHT\n \nThe Angels Gate Lighthouse (officially known as Los Angeles Harbor Light) has marked the entrance of Los Angeles Harbor through times of war and peace\, and even survived a tidal wave! The tower itself has undergone many changes through the years. The distinctive green flash of the Angels Gate Lighthouse remains a welcoming beacon to professional mariners and recreational boaters alike. \nKIDS EXHIBIT\n \nKids of all ages will discover what’s going on in the harbor today through a series of interactive games and activities in the children’s exhibit. Grab a pair of binoculars and take a close-up look at the nation’s busiest container port! Learn how cranes work\, imagine yourself in a variety of harbor professions\, build your own wharves\, test your knowledge of ships and cargo\, or just settle down and enjoy a nautical story!\nDue to Covid-19-related precautions\, the toys and costumes have been temporarily removed. \nCAUGHT\, CANNED\, AND EATEN\n \nThe Port of Los Angeles (San Pedro) was the fishing capital of the nation for much of the twentieth century. Generations of fishermen sold catches of tuna\, sardines\, mackerel\, and squid to fish markets or canneries on nearby Terminal Island. \nToday\, the fishing fleet is greatly diminished and the canneries have closed\, but the legacy of the fishing and canning industries endures. \nCOMMERCIAL DIVING\n \n  \nThis exhibit is an introduction to just a few of the thousands of jobs performed by commercial divers and fishery divers in the South Bay\, and was the inspiration of the late Torrance R. Parker\, noted commercial diver and author of 20\,000 Jobs Under the Sea. \nSCHOOL TOURS\nThe museum is pleased to offer educational tours throughout the year at no charge. \nThe museum is located on the Main Channel of Los Angeles Harbor. Students will have a front-row opportunity to see the massive container ships in action and learn about international trade\, ship terminology\, sailor’s art\, and the history of the working people who built Los Angeles harbor into the nation’s busiest container port. \nTours are free for grades K-12\, Wednesday –Friday mornings\, and reservations are REQUIRED. The museum is unable to accommodate group tours without a reservation. \nCall the tour hotline at 310-548-2900 and schedule your tour today\, or email info@lamaritimemuseum.org. \nRESEARCH\nThe Los Angeles Maritime Museum Research Library is home to thousands of books\, historic photographs and archival documents waiting for you to discover! \nResearch questions can be directed to info@lamaritimemuseum.org and 310-548-7618 ext. 215. \nPortions of our collection have online finding aids and digital records: \nOnline Archive of California (OAC) \nOnline Digital Collections \n\nSuggested Donation:\nAdults $5\nSeniors (62+) $3\nChildren 12 & under FREE\nHours\nMonday-Tuesday: Closed\nWednesday – Sunday: 12:00pm – 5:00pm \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.lamaritimemuseum.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n
