This collection offers a superb representation of the arts of many African nations\, including objects from Senegal\, Nigeria\, Ghana\, Cameroon\, Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire)\, Kenya\, Zambia\, and South Africa. The Yoruba collection alone is one of the three finest in the world. It contains a spectacular array of beaded objects\, including a majestic throne\, elaborate chiefly gowns\, and sophisticated divination regalia. \n \nA collection of post-apartheid election materials and contemporary South African art is being developed\, as are a number of collections of popular urban arts from countries including Tanzania and Muslim Senegal. Come run with us. \n48 for Change\nWith the combination of a global pandemic and civil unrest around racial injustice\, June of 2020 set the stage for important societal and human issues to finally come to light in a more permanent way. This was the same time that two friends\, Justin and Tyler\, decided they wanted to take action to make a difference in the injustices and inequality we see in our communities. \n  \n\n\n\nThe week of George Floyd’s passing\, Justin called Tyler voicing his frustration from Floyd’s murder and subsequent reactions\, and they joined forces to do a running challenge that very weekend that entailed running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. A GoFundMe was set up to collect funds from friends and family throughout the running challenge to donate to help support racial justice. \nWhat started as a way to take the mind off of the pressure cooker of injustice resulted in a massively successful and attention-grabbing fundraiser\, and eventually turned into a 501(c)3 nonprofit\, still strong and growing today: 48 For Change. \nAside from fundraising and donating\, Justin found that the community that gathered to run that weekend was something special\, and needed its own spotlight. A place where anyone can come and simply run with a group of good people. The four sculptures are currently situated in an exterior landscaped setting that Graham’s son\, Steven Graham\, consulted on as part of the renovation at Wells Fargo Center. \n  \n \nRobert Graham\, was a Mexican born sculptor\, and although you may not be familiar with his name\, you probably ARE familiar with some of his work. Mindfulness has scientific support as a means to reduce stress\, improve attention\, boost the immune system\, reduce emotional reactivity\, and promote a general sense of health and well-being. These half hour weekly sessions are open to all who are interested in learning how to live more presently in life. DESCRIPTION:A LITTLE BIT OF TOKYO IN LITTLE TOKYO- Japanese American National Museum\n\nThe James Irvine Japanese Garden is a traditional Japanese Garden located on the Little Tokyo campus of the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center. The garden is open to the public for enjoyment seven days a week between 10am and 4pm unless there is a special event. The Garden also serves as a unique and elegant venue for weddings\, photo shoots\, memorial services and other private events. \n\n\n\nHistory\n\nEstablished in 1981. \nA centerpiece of the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center\, the Garden also known as Seiryu-en or the Garden of the Clear Stream\, was constructed by more than 200 volunteers who contributed more than 3\,000 man-hours. The garden was designed by landscape architect Dr. Takeo Uesugi and received the National Landscape Award in 1981\, the nation’s highest award for environmental improvement and community beautification. Most recently\, the James Irvine Japanese Garden underwent a major restoration with the purpose of creating a revitalized green space in downtown Los Angeles and sharing the aesthetics of Japanese culture with the community. The James Irvine Garden has served the community\, for nearly three decades\, by providing a tranquil and elegant departure from the urban landscape. DESCRIPTION:EVERY THURSDAY NIGHT- Culver City\nJoin the LA Skate Hunnies for a beginner-friendly road skate that starts and ends at Ivy Station\, with an afterparty at LA Ale Works! \n\n\nJoin the LA Skate Hunnies for their first Thursday Night Skate\, right here at Ivy Station. Each night the group chooses a new theme\, this week’s is Prom! Come dressed to impress in formal attire. Theme is encouraged\, but not required. Meet on the main plaza\, near the elevators by the Great Lawn. \nFirst Thursday Night Skate is a community meetup for primarily roller skaters and rollerbladers\, but all wheels are welcome\, and you’ll often see cyclists and skateboarders join in on the fun! Participants will meet at Ivy Station to go out on a group ride around Culver City. The group passes through some of Culver City’s most iconic landmarks\, with lots of stops to dance\, rest\, or do whatever you’d like! The group will meet at LA Ale Works when the group ride ends around 9:30pm\, and stay until close at 11:00pm. \nThis Skate Night is beginner friendly\, but participants are expected to have control when skating and have basic skills to navigate road skating in a large group.
