DESCRIPTION:OPEN YEAR ROUND- Griffith Park\nThe Trail to Amir’s Garden is a 1.1 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located LA’s Griffith Park. This shady rest stop and memorial garden features beautiful wild flowers and water-bearing\, fire-resistive succulents interspersed with natives and memorial trees and plants. The trail is primarily used for hiking\, walking\, running\, nature trips\, and horses and is accessible year-round. It is rated as moderately difficult trail. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe gardens are cared for by official volunteers since its creation in 1971. Amir’s Garden is considered a rest stop and not a dedicated picnic area\, therefore it can’t be reserved for events. The nearest restrooms are located at Mineral Wells Picnic Area. Activities related to the care of a large garden may be taking place at any time\, including watering. Amir’s Garden is a most pleasant place for a hike-in picnic\, with a selection of picnic tables.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe History of Amir’s Garden\nAmir Dialameh worked a steep hill in Griffith Park for than three decades with a pick and shovel and turned a scorched\, barren landscape into a lush\, shaded grove that is visited daily by a steady stream of hikers and horseback riders. \nFor thirty-two years\, Dialameh worked in the garden most days of the week\, hiking up a service road to the rugged Mineral Wells location. Over the years\, he planted pine and jacaranda trees along with rose bushes\, geraniums\, oleander\, and yucca that grew into the beautiful oasis it is today. \n“…what you need first and foremost here is shade\,” Dialameh explained in 1989. “That’s why I planted trees like the jacaranda. In ten years\, this place will be covered with their branches.” \nHis words were prophetic. Today Amir’s Garden is nearly five-acres of shady rest stop for Griffith Park’s hikers and equestrians. \nDialameh first came to appreciate nature as a child during hiking trips in the Alborz Mountains of his native Iran. As his love of hiking and nature developed\, so did his affinity for the United States of America. \n“I was intrigued by the volunteerism that built this country… people doing things instead of relying on the government.” In 1963 while visiting his brother in Pittsburgh\, Dialameh made the ultimate decision to immigrate and moved to the Los Angeles area. \n\n\nGetting There\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe hike to Amir’s Garden actually begins near one of Griffith Park’s larger picnic areas\, Mineral Well Picnic Area. Find the dirt service road heading west from the intersection of Griffith Park Drive and Mineral Wells Road. \nWalk straight through an immediate junction and follow the dirt road on a southwestern climb to Amir’s Garden. After a horseshoe bend in the road\, and a quarter mile from the start\, you will pass a water tower that is accompanied by broad views stretching beyond Griffith Park toward Glendale\, the Verdugo Mountains\, and San Gabriel Mountains. \n \nLooking back down the trail\nAfter less than half a mile\, the trail arrives at Amir’s Garden where you’ll discover a pocket of tall sycamores arcing over a mountainside of verdant plants including succulents like ice plant and jade. There are a few picnic tables at the entrance of Amir’s Garden and others hidden throughout. \n  \n \nAmir’s Garden\n\nStroll through a web of footpaths and recharge your batteries in this refreshing Griffith Park retreat. With extra effort\, you may continue up North Trail toward Mount Hollywood\, Mount Bell and other peaks in Griffith Park. Otherwise\, return the way you came for a satisfying 1-mile round trip hike. No fee or permit is required to hike to Amir’s Garden and dogs are welcome.\n\nTo get to the trailhead: Take the 5 Freeway to the Los Feliz Boulevard exit. Drive west on Los Feliz Boulevard to the first light and turn north on Crystal Springs Road. After 1.5 miles\, turn left on Griffith Park Drive and drive 1.2 miles to the intersection with Mineral Wells Road. Turn left onto Mineral Wells Road and park immediately in the spaces along the road. Travel Town is located in the northwest corner of Los Angeles\, California’s Griffith Park. The museum’s collection primary focuses on the history of railroad transportation in the western United States from 1880 to the 1930s is\, with an emphasis on Southern California and the Los Angeles area. \n\n\n\n\n\n \nFREE Docent Tours are held the 2nd Saturdays of the month\nfrom 11:00 am until 3:00 pm.\nGroup tours are available by reservation. The ride travels around the museum twice. \n(16″ gauge) are: \nThe Courage – 2-6-0 Mogul\nA 2-6-0 mogul built by Gerry Bowden in 1993. Sister locomotive to the Stanley Diamond. \nThis locomotive and its brother unit the Stanley Diamond were built in Oregon in 1993 to a design by our chief engineer\, Gene Gustavson. They are modeled after the narrow gauge locomotives that worked the timber and mining areas of the West during the early part of the century. This unit has identical power as the Colonel Griffith. \n \n  \nhe 1986 – Diesel Switcher\nDiesel switcher built by Gerry Bowden in 1986. \nA classic yard goat design\, this locomotive is modeled after the EMD series of yard switchers. It is fitting that this is our heaviest and most powerful locomotive. \n \n  \nPullman style – Six seat coaches\nsix seat coaches built by George Reddington in 1956 for Gene Autry’s Melody Ranch Special train. \nSimilar to the Pullman style coaches at GPS but longer\, steel covers were added to these coaches in 1989 because Travel Town did not have a loading platform cover to protect the passenger seats from the sun. These coaches originally were a part of a set with a steam locomotive. The locomotive burned out its boiler and was sold in \n \n  \nThis railroad is one of three miniature railway train rides within Griffith Park. The others are the 18 1⁄2 in (470 mm) gauge Griffith Park & Southern Railroad and the 7 1⁄2 in (190.5 mm) gauge miniature railway at the Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad Museum. The latter is independently operated. \nBe sure to also  visit during the holiday season to take advantage of the Holiday Light Festival Train Ride\, when the Museum is festively decorated and tens of thousands of lights transform the area into a magical wonderland. DESCRIPTION:EVERY SUNDAY- in Historic Leimert Park\n\n\n\nEvery Sunday 10 am – 5 pm.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Leimert Park African Marketplace and Drum Circle takes park every Sunday in Leimert Park Village along Degnan Boulevard between 43rd Place and 43rd Street. \n\n  \n \n\nFor more than 25 yearsthe African Drum Circles & African American street vendors have been a mainstay of Leimert Park. The weekly event is celebration of Black culture\, art\, music and dance. \n\n  \n \n\nWeekly crowds come to support Black owned businesses and try the flavors from around the globe. The village is one of the most prominent Black cultural spaces in Los Angeles\, and it is a symbol of Black life in this city. \n  \n \n\n\nEverySunday from 3:00pm until dusk the African beats of the drums can be heard throughout the neighborhood. Drummers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate in this exciting community event. Leimert Park has been a meeting place for the people of Los Angeles for at least since the early 80s. \nThe drum circles feature musical styles from across the African continent\, with local drummers join with others coming from various parts of Africa\, Latin America\, the Caribbean islands. DESCRIPTION:STARTING AT 5PM- Burton Chace Park.\nThere’s no better place in Los Angeles to see 4th of July 4th fireworks than in L.A.’s Marina. Enjoy dinner at waterfront restaurants in Marina del Rey with the best firework views. Charter a yacht for the ultimate close-up! Or head to Burton Chace Park or Fisherman’s Village for a family-friendly party atmosphere including synchronized music played over loudspeakers. \n\n\n\nWHAT TO KNOW\nThe fireworks show on Tuesday\, July 4\, 2023 starts at 9 p.m. and lasts 20 minutes. This is a popular event\, with visitors traveling to the area from throughout the Southland. Plan to arrive as early as 1 p.m. and stay in the Marina to avoid traffic. \nHOW TO GET AROUND: See “Getting Here” section below for alternative ways to get around the Marina once you have arrived in town; use these methods for transportation and other water activities to enjoy while you wait for the show. \nClick button to view 4th of July Fireworks flyer. For questions\, please call 424-526-7777. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVIEWS FROM THE SHORE\n\nEnjoy the fireworks show with synchronized music played over loudspeakers at either Burton Chace Park or Fisherman’s Village. The fireworks will be shot from a barge off the Marina’s south jetty.  You can view the show from virtually anywhere in Marina del Rey\, Venice Pier\, Playa Vista and Dockweiler Beach. \n\n\nVIEWS FROM THE WATER\nCity Cruises will offer special July 4 cruises. Reserve ASAP at CityCruises.com. \nAlternatively\, you can charter a private yacht to get the ultimate close-up view. Find information about companies properly licensed to operate charters in the Marina here. \n  \nPARKING\nA special event parking rate ranging from $13 to $20 per vehicle for the public County parking lots in Marina del Rey will apply on July 4th. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nGETTING AROUND & STREET CLOSURES\nClick button for a full list of street closures and times. \nStreet closures will start as early as 1:00 p.m. and will continue throughout the day. Please note that the times and locations of street closures are subject to change at any time due to traffic conditions. \nOn July 4th\, the WaterBus will operate from noon until 11 p.m. Your wait time may be longer than the usual. \nGet around the Marina by riding Circuit\, a five-seat electric shuttle\, that you can either wave down when you see or download the RIDE CIRCUIT app on your phone to schedule a pick-up.
