On June 19\, 1865\, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston\, Texas and announced that all enslaved people were free\, effectively putting an end to slavery in the last Confederate state. This announcement came two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation\, which had declared all enslaved people in Confederate states to be free as of January 1\, 1863. Juneteenth has been celebrated by African Americans since the late 1800s and has become an increasingly recognized holiday in recent years. \nOn June 17\, 2021\, President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law\, officially making June 19 a federal holiday and giving national recognition to a day commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. \nWhy is it important to celebrate Juneteenth?\nJuneteenth is a day of reflection and celebration\, as it helps to tell the story of African American resilience and perseverance throughout history. Fathers Day\nJoin us for our annual Father’s Day rides! \nComplimentary beer tasting and rides in 5 classic cars from the ’30’s\, ’40’s\, ’50’s\, ’60’s & ’70’s.\nMust be 21 and over to drink \nChildren must meet the height requirements of 55″ to take a ride in a car.\nOur 1935 Chrysler Airflow is one of the vehicles scheduled to give guests rides. \nOur Father’s Day Rides are only in the backseat of our cars and can only be taken with your group/family. Due to the current health climate\, a face mask or cover is required. We are also not allowing our visitors to touch the cars in the museum floor. \nWe can assure you that all of the cars used for rides will be wiped down in between rides. Our docents /drivers will handle opening and closing the doors for you.\nWe will also have complimentary local lagers and IPA beer tasting in our ice cream parlor!
