SUMMARY:THE MUSEUM OF SOCIAL JUSTICE
DESCRIPTION:OPEN THURSDAY – SUNDAY- Olivera Street\nThe Museum of Social Justice is dedicated to telling the neglected stories of the diverse people of Los Angeles. By showcasing the history of social movements from the perspective of marginalized groups\, the Museum inspires visitors to engage with social justice principles and advocate for change.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Museum carries on in the tradition of the founder’s commitment to social justice issues such as ministry to the poor\, abolition\, women’s suffrage\, and civil rights.  A permanent exhibition detailing the Methodist’s long history of championing social justice causes for the less fortunate.  The exhibition features dynamic and rarely seen images from the Museum archives\, documenting Los Angeles Methodist’s progressive social work and ethnic outreach endeavors during the long period of Los Angeles’ growth.  In conjunction with the permanent exhibition\, and moving beyond Methodist activities\, the Museum will install temporary exhibitions examining past and present social justice activities culled from a wide variety of amazingly rich and diverse ethnic\, religious\, and racial communities in the city of Los Angeles and beyond.\n\nThe museum is housed in the historic La Plaza United Methodist Church at the intersection of the Los Angeles Plaza and famous Olvera Street.  Thanks to its proximity to some of the finest educational institutions the world has to offer\, such as California State University\, Los Angeles (CSULA)\, University of California\, Los Angeles (UCLA)\, Otis College of Art and Design\, and California State University\, Northridge (CSUN) the Museum has developed a diverse set of educational and social outreach programs to bring opportunities to the community.  These programs continue La Plaza United Methodist Church’s 100 year-old legacy of bringing socio-economic and health related equality to all citizens of Los Angeles\, through non-sectarian outreach services\, knowledge\, and empowerment.\n\n\nFounded in 2012\, the Los Angeles United Methodist Museum of Social Justice tells the untold story of the founding of Los Angeles. The museum and educational center is housed in the historic La Plaza United Methodist Church at the intersection of Los Angeles Plaza and Olvera Street. \nThe Museum hosts a diverse set of educational and social outreach programs in partnership with California State University\, Los Angeles (CSULA)\, University of California\, Los Angeles (UCLA)\, Otis College of Art and Design\, and California State University\, Northridge (CSUN) These programs continue La Plaza United Methodist Church’s 100 year-old legacy of bringing socio-economic and health related equality to all citizens of Los Angeles\, through non-sectarian outreach services\, knowledge\, and empowerment. \n \nThe inaugural exhibit “Angels on the Plaza\,” opened in September 2013 with original images from the La Plaza collection that document the living conditions of the immigrant population in and around the Plaza from 1910-1927. In September\, 2014; “Exodus\,” a photographic exhibition of the work of Julian Cardona documented the forced modern-day exodus of people from Mexico to the US. \nLa Plaza  The current home of La Plaza United Methodist Church was built in 1926. When the state of California declared the La Plaza area a historic monument\, the Cal-Pac United Methodist Conference was forced to give up the church and the adjoining conference center through threat of eminent domain. The Conference moved its offices to Pasadena\, but the church remained\, with a 50 year lease at a $1 per year. \nThe Urban Foundation’s role  In the 1990‘s\, the city of Los Angeles took over the historic El Pueblo monument from the state\, and negotiations for a new church lease in 2002 were unsuccessful. In 2010\, the “La Plaza initiative\,” a program of the Urban Foundation and the United Methodist Cal-Pac Conference\, was founded and charged with negotiating a new lease. When the City of Los Angeles resisted negotiating in good faith\, the La Plaza congregation\, under the direction of founding museum director\, Leonora Barron\, led a series of protests and prayer services on the steps of City hall. After a year long struggle\, a fair agreement was reached. The city agreed to lease the church to the congregation\, and the La Plaza Initiative agreed to create a museum which would provide a sense of the church’s rich history of social justice work. \nHours\nMonday – Wednesday: Closed\nThursday – Sunday: 10:00am – 3:00pm \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.museumofsocialjustice.org/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

Party with the highest energy and sing your heart out to the music! \n \nJoin Briggs Upstairs for a smooth mix of r&b\, hip hop and rap. \nBriggs is well known as a DJ\, A&R\, Songwriter\, and Creative Director. Briggs was born and raised in Los Angeles\, California. He is known for playing 90s 2000s hip hop and R&B sprinkled in with the now top 40s hits. His party’s take you back along memory lane all while keeping you moving and singing the whole night. \nWith Special Guest appearances every week bringing you the best 90s\, 2000s\, Hip-Hop\, R&B\, and Afrobeats! Party like never before!! \nSEE YOU THERE! \n21+ / Free for everyone. \n\n \n929 South Broadway Los Angeles\, CA 90015 United States \n \nIn historic Downtown Los Angeles\, where the grit meets the glamour.\nWelcome to Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles\, where the grit meets the glamour! Located on Broadway and 9th Street at the southernmost point of the Broadway Histroic Theater District\, offers seven fresh and minimalist rooms and suites. Not only do they serve palette-bursting delicacies in their restaurant\, but you can also head up to its rooftop bar where you can dip in their pool while sipping cool drinks by day and attend jaw-dropping parties at night! \n \nThe main attraction is the restored United Artists THeater which occupies three floors of the 13-story building and has a 1\,600-seat auditorium. The building stands as a shining monument to the American artistic spirit and theatrical history. The theater exemplifies the love of Spanish castles and cathedral stonework. \n \nBuilt in 1927 as the flagship movie palace for United Artists — the maverick film studio founded by Mary Pickford\, Douglas Fairbanks\, D.W Griffith\, and Charlie Chaplin — The Theatre at Ace Hotel is our loving reanimation of one of the city’s most remarkable gems. It’s a delicately restored\, 1\,600-seat cathedral to the arts\, with a three-story\, 2\,300 square foot grand lobby\, an ornate open balcony\, and a vaulted ceiling dotted with thousands of mirrors that glimmer like tiny stars. \n \nSince returning The Theatre to its storied splendor\, we’ve played host to hundreds of meaningful\, nearly sacred\, wholly rock and roll experiences: large-scale concerts\, major movie premieres\, sold-out dance performances — if it fits inside the proscenium\, we’ve probably presented it. Retrofitted with a state-of-the-art digital projection system and cinema sound\, an independent\, ultramodern live sound system\, plus an elaborate contemporary stage lighting system\, The Theatre at Ace Hotel is a radically inclusive stage fit for our heart’s royalty — artists\, musicians\, visionaries and cultural igniters. \n\nVersatile spaces made for memories of all shapes and sizes\n \n\nWhether you’re hosting a concert\, film screening\, holiday soiree\, workshop\, record launch\, dinner\, reception\, or something all your own\, we’ve got the canvas\, menus\, and staff to make it amazing. Get all the details and anything you need when you reach out to the team. \nWe believe in celebrations of all sizes\, there’s no reason too big or too small to mark the moment. Flexible enough to suit whatever you’ve got in mind\, Ace Hotel DTLA’s private spaces hold the magnetism of Old Hollywood within a glorious Spanish Gothic structure. \n \nGo for cinematic sights and the pool Upstairs\, host a cozy café-like affair on the Mezzanine or truly throw something for the ages in our magical movie palace next door. Each of our spaces is a generous canvas\, adaptable for everything from culinary workshops\, record launches\, dinners\, receptions\, or whatever you need us to be. \n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.eventbrite.com/e/the-deep-end-tickets\n \n  \nFind more

SUMMARY:THE DEEP END
DESCRIPTION:EVERY FRIDAY– DTLA\nParty with us to the Deep End this weekend at Upstairs\, Ace Hotel brought to you by BRIGGS!

How do I check out a Chromebook kit?\nRequests for Chromebook kits can be made using our online catalog or over the phone\, like any of our other materials. When can I pick up my Laptop & Hotspot?\nCall the owning library and arrange to pick up your kit during Sidewalk Service hours.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n4. How long can I keep the Laptop & Hotspot Loan?

SUMMARY:The Broad Museum
DESCRIPTION:FREE TUE – SUN- Bunker Hill\, DTLA\n\n\n\n\nThe Broad museum presents an in-depth installation of Roy Lichtenstein\, opening May 26\, 2021\, features 22 artworks\, with nearly half on view for the first time\, including Purist Still Life (1975)\, Female Figure (1979)\, Two Paintings: Radiator and Folded Sheets (1984)\, and Nude with Pyramid (1994). \nAn outcome of sustained and ongoing engagement with artists and artwork\, the Broad collection is distinctive in its exceptional dedication to the full arc of artists’ careers. The Broad has highlighted this depth through expansive presentations in the third floor galleries\, featuring Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Roy Lichtenstein\, Kara Walker\, Andy Warhol\, and Christopher Wool\, along with works by many others. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom the curators\n\n\n\nRead extended content on Lichtenstein’s works in our mobile museum guide: mobile.thebroad.org/artistguides \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHighlighted Artwork\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPurist Still Life\n\nRoy Lichtenstein\n\n\n1975\n\n\noil and Magna on canvas\n\n\n70 x 80 in. Grand Avenue\, Los Angeles\, CA 90012\nThe Broad makes its collection of contemporary art from the 1950s to the present accessible to the widest possible audience by presenting exhibitions and operating a lending program to art museums and galleries worldwide. \nBy actively building a dynamic collection that features in-depth representations of influential contemporary artists and by advancing education and engagement through exhibitions and diverse public programming\, the museum enriches\, provokes\, inspires\, and fosters appreciation of art of our time. \n \nThe Broad was founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler\, the museum offers free general admission and presents an active program of rotating temporary exhibitions and innovative audience engagement. The Broad is home to 2\,000 works of art in the Broad collection\, which is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. \n  \n \nThe Broad from Home\nThe Broad is committed to inspiring and fostering an appreciation of contemporary art through our digital initiatives. Experience #TheBroadFromHome to find inspiration through music\, poetry\, performance\, workshops\, and conversations centered around the Broad collection. \nOverview \nPerformances \nTalks & Conversations \nArtist Spotlight \nFamily Art Workshops \nMore Online Programs \n  \nThe Broad Collection\nEli and Edythe Broad have been building their collection of postwar and contemporary art over the last 50 years. With a belief that the greatest art collections are built when the art is being made\, the Broads took to collecting art of their own time. \nThe Broad is home to 2\,000 works in the Broad collection by more than 200 artists\, and is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. The collection features in-depth holdings of influential contemporary artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Mark Bradford\, Jasper Johns\, Jeff Koons\, Barbara Kruger\, Yayoi Kusama\, Kerry James Marshall\, Julie Mehretu\, Takashi Murakami\, Robert Rauschenberg\, Ed Ruscha\, Cindy Sherman\, Cy Twombly\, Andy Warhol\, and more\, plus an ever-growing representation of younger artists. \n  \nView Our Collection Here\n \nIn Under the Table\, 1994\, the viewer is both in the world of imaginary giants and in the world of remembered childhood. Fusing Alice in Wonderland with the Duchampian tradition of the readymade\, Artist Robert Therrien constructs a doppelganger from an everyday object\, both displaying his visual wit and actualizing literary or imaginative fantasy in three-dimensional space. The table exudes an extraordinary aura\, compelling one to walk underneath the table and conjuring the physical memory of being under the table of one’s childhood home. Complicated and powerful\, the work offers fresh ideas of what a table\, sculpture\, and memory can mean. \n  \n  \n \nUsing the recognizable form of a balloon twisted into the shape of a dog\, Koons has frozen a moment in time\, exaggerating both scale and material. \nBalloon Dog (Blue) is literal and abstract. When standing close to it\, one’s own distorted reflection bends around smooth pert curves. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission is Free\nAll visitors must reserve timed tickets in advance.
