SUMMARY:LEGO BUILDERS AT THE INGLEWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY
DESCRIPTION:EVERY MONDAY – INGLEWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY\nDesign. Construct. Create. The best way to foster your child’s creativity is by providing them with the tools to build their own world and let their imagination soar. Join us at Inglewood Public Library – Children’s Services\, every Monday from 4 pm – 5 pm. The Lego Bricks is specially designed for children to build\, learn and create exciting play experiences. This will help develop your child’s imagination and love of building! \n\n\nTHE LEGO BRAND VALUES\nImagination\nFree play is how children develop their imagination – the foundation for creativity. Curiosity asks WHY and imagines possible explanations. Playfulness asks WHAT IF and imagines how the ordinary becomes extraordinary fantasy or fiction. Dreaming is the first step toward doing it.\n\nCreativity\nCreativity is the ability to come up with ideas that are new\, surprising\, and valuable – and it’s an essential 21st-century skill. Systematic creativity is a particular form of creativity that combines logic and reasoning with playfulness and imagination.\n\n\nFun\nFun is being active together\, the thrill of an adventure\, the joyful enthusiasm of children\, and the delight in surprising both yourself and others in what you can do or create. Fun is the happiness we experience when we are fully engaged in something that requires mastery when our abilities are in balance with the challenge at hand and we are making progress towards a goal.\n\nLearning\nLearning is about being curious\, experimenting\, and collaborating – expanding our thinking and doing\, helping us develop new insights and new skills. We learn through play by putting things together\, taking them apart\, and putting them together in different ways. Building\, un-building\, rebuilding\, thereby creating new things and developing new ways of thinking about ourselves\, and the world.\n\nCaring\nCaring is about our desire to make a positive difference in the lives of children\, our colleagues\, our partners\, and the world we live in. Doing that little extra\, not because we have to – but because it feels right and because we care.\n\nQuality\nFor us\, quality means the challenge of continuous improvement to provide the best play material\, the best for children and their development\, and the best to our community and partners. From a reputation for manufacturing excellence to becoming trusted by all – we believe in quality that speaks for itself and earns us the recommendation of all.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT INGLEWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY \nLIBRARY MISSION\nThe mission of the Inglewood Public Library is to provide access to informational\, educational\, and recreational services and resources responsive to the library’s diverse communities. \nMAIN LIBRARY\n \n\n101 W. SUMMARY:Graham Garden
DESCRIPTION:OPEN EVERY DAY- DTLA Wells Fargo Center\nGraham Garden integrates Fountain Figures I-IV\, a collection of graceful sculptures created by late Los Angeles artist Robert Graham\, in a newly designed outdoor plaza at Halo. For over fifty years\, Robert Graham’s observation of the female form and use of scale allowed him to explore and create a range of intimate sized works and large public monuments\, widely celebrated for their precise iconic detail. \nThe sculptures were originally part of CRA/LA’s mission in 1985 to incorporate public art in redevelopment projects and revitalize Downtown Los Angeles. The four sculptures are currently situated in an exterior landscaped setting that Graham’s son\, Steven Graham\, consulted on as part of the renovation at Wells Fargo Center. \n  \n \nRobert Graham\, was a Mexican born sculptor\, and although you may not be familiar with his name\, you probably ARE familiar with some of his work. Graham’s monumental bronzes commemorate the human figure\, and are featured in 11 public places in and around the city of Angels. SUMMARY:California African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair
DESCRIPTION:California African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair\nFREE! TUES – SUNDAY- Exposition Park\nThe California African American Museum (CAAM) focuses on enrichment and education on the cultural heritage and history of African Americans with a focus on California and western United States. \nAdmission is free to all visitors. The California African American Museum’s mission is to research\, collect\, preserve\, and interpret for public enrichment the history\, art\, and culture of African Americans with an emphasis on California and the western United States. \n \nCalifornia African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair\n  \nCAAM’s permanent collection consists of over 4\,000 objects ranging from the 1800s to the present. It encompasses paintings\, photographs\, film\, sculpture\, historical documents\, and artifacts\, and it spans nineteenth-century landscape paintings to modern artworks to contemporary mixed-media reflections on cultural and political events. \n \n  \nThe Museum’s first acquisitions included a bronze bust of civil rights activist Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune by artist Richmond Barthé and a sculpture by artist Maren Hassinger\, then at the start of her career. These laid the perfect groundwork for CAAM’s mandate to assemble a comprehensive\, thoughtful\, and wide-reaching collection. \n \n  \nCAAM’s deepest holdings include art made or connected to African Americans in California and the western United States. However\, the Museum also has significant works of contemporary art from the African diaspora (including Haiti\, Brazil\, and Jamaica)\, as well as traditional African art from Western\, Central\, and Sub-Saharan Africa. CAAM aims to represent the diverse contributions of African Americans in the United States\, but also to interpret how the past has affected identity in the present. \nCalifornia African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair\nToday\, CAAM oversees\, exhibits\, and conserves a rapidly growing collection. Each quarter\, curators review the current holdings and decide as a committee on future acquisitions. We view our collection as a living body — constantly evolving\, growing\, and reflecting the world in which we live. \n \n  \nSome examples of CAAM’s collection include the Walter Burrell Collection of audio recordings of Burrell’s interviews with African American celebrities\, broadcast by a local radio station in the early 1970s; the oral histories of Celes King\, who was both a local civil rights activist as well as a former Tuskegee airman; and selections from the collection of visual artist John Outterbridge. \n  \n \nHours\nTuesdays – Saturdays: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.\nSundays: 11:00 a.m.-5:00p.m.\nMondays: Closed \nCalifornia African American Museum (CAAM) Temporarily Closed For Repair\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \ncaamuseum.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n
