DESCRIPTION:EVERY WEEK\, EVERY RUN\, EVERY BODY- Santa Monica & Venice\nThe Venice Run Club is the heartbeat of Venice. A community of runners here to better ourselves and our community. Come run with us. \n48 for Change\nWith the combination of a global pandemic and civil unrest around racial injustice\, June of 2020 set the stage for important societal and human issues to finally come to light in a more permanent way. This was the same time that two friends\, Justin and Tyler\, decided they wanted to take action to make a difference in the injustices and inequality we see in our communities. \n  \n\n\n\nThe week of George Floyd’s passing\, Justin called Tyler voicing his frustration from Floyd’s murder and subsequent reactions\, and they joined forces to do a running challenge that very weekend that entailed running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. A GoFundMe was set up to collect funds from friends and family throughout the running challenge to donate to help support racial justice. \nWhat started as a way to take the mind off of the pressure cooker of injustice resulted in a massively successful and attention-grabbing fundraiser\, and eventually turned into a 501(c)3 nonprofit\, still strong and growing today: 48 For Change. \nAside from fundraising and donating\, Justin found that the community that gathered to run that weekend was something special\, and needed its own spotlight. A place where anyone can come and simply run with a group of good people. DESCRIPTION:ONGOING EXHIBIT- The Broad DTLA\nWelcome to “Keith Haring: Art is for Everybody\,” an extraordinary special exhibition at The Broad in Los Angeles. Running until October 8\, this groundbreaking exhibit presents Keith Haring’s expansive body of work\, featuring over 120 artworks and archival materials. \nAs one of the most influential artists of the 20th century\, Keith Haring is renowned for his vibrant use of color\, dynamic linework\, and iconic characters like the barking dog and the radiant baby. His art transcends traditional boundaries\, blurring the lines between art and life\, and continues to inspire joy and positivity. \nDivided into ten galleries in total\, the expansive exhibition features the breadth of mediums Haring worked within\, including video\, sculpture\, drawing\, painting\, and graphic works\, as well as representations from the artist’s enormous output of public projects\, from the subway drawings to his public murals. Works presented span from the late-1970s when he was a student at the School of Visual Arts in New York up until 1988\, just two years before the artist died from AIDS-related illness at the age of 31. Haring’s participation in nuclear disarmament and anti-Apartheid movements are featured prominently in the show\, as well as works that take on complex issues that remain crucial today from environmentalism\, capitalism\, and the proliferation of new technologies to religion\, sexuality\, and race. In the last gallery\, significant works from the late 1980s are accompanied by framed posters illustrating the artist’s activism during the HIV/AIDS crisis. \n \nMajor works held in The Broad collection such as Untitled\, 1984\, and Red Room\, 1988 are on view in addition to key loans from many institutional and private collections\, including art\, ephemera and documentation provided by the Keith Haring Foundation in New York\, established by the artist in 1989. The show features immersive elements\, such as a gallery lit by blacklight soundtracked by playlists created by the artist himself. Additionally\, the Shop at The Broad has been transformed\, taking inspiration from Haring’s artistic retail space The Pop Shop\, which first opened in 1986 in the SoHo neighborhood of New York. \nFollowing its debut at The Broad\, Keith Haring: Art Is for Everybody will travel to the Art Gallery of Ontario\, in Toronto\, from November 11\, 2023\, to March 17\, 2024\, and to the Walker Art Center\, in Minneapolis\, from April 27 to September 8\, 2024. \n\n\n221 S. Visit the Ramona Museum of California History today and step back in time! \n \nRamona Parlor was organized by a small group of men in their early twenties and met once a week in the historic Patriotic Hall on Figueroa Street in Los Angeles. In its heyday\, the group boasted over 1200 members and was considered one of the most influential organizations in southern California. Senator Stephen M. White\, Los Angeles Mayor Fred Eaton\, and Ex-President Richard M. Nixon were all members of Ramona Parlor #109. \n  \n \nThe Museum is located on Mission Drive\, opposite the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse in the heart of the Mission District\, and houses a number of fascinating artifacts from California’s colorful history. \n  \n \nOur Mission\nFriendship\, Loyalty\, and Charity \nThis is the motto of the Native Sons of the Golden West\, a statewide fraternal organization of native Californians committed to preserving and promoting the history of the Golden State. \nEstablished in 1885\, the NSGW landmarks historic features and buildings as part of its mission.  The organization also raises funds for Cleft Palate\, the fourth greatest malady affecting children in California. \nRamona Parlor #109 is just one of the hundreds of parlors throughout the state.  It is the only parlor that owns and operates its own California history museum.  The Ramona Museum of California History is in the heart of the San Gabriel Mission District and is open every Saturday from 1-3 pm. \n  \n \nRamona Parlor #​109\nRamona Parlor #109 is one of hundreds of parlors throughout the state of California. It is a lively group that meets once a month on the second Thursday in the Ramona Meeting Room behind the Museum on Mission Drive. Ramona Parlor is the only one that owns and operates its California history museum.  The Ramona Museum of California History is in the heart of the San Gabriel Mission District and is open every Saturday from 1-3 pm.  Tours may be arranged by appointment. \nRamona Parlor hosts many events throughout the year.  An Annual Cleft palate Golf Tournament\, a Casino Turnaround\, A Day at the Races\, and historical outings and dedications are just some of the activities held throughout the year. \n  \n \nNative Sons of the Golden West\nWe must go back in history to the California Gold Rush\, which was one of the unmatched marvels of American history. In 1848\, California was a tranquil wilderness where the population density was so low that\, on average\, only one human being dwelt per every 528 square miles. But after President James K. Polk made the official announcement on Dec. 5\, 1848\, that gold had been discovered\, things ramped up very quickly. \nGold seekers (mostly young men) came in droves from all corners of the earth. Within a short time\, 100\,000 people were living in California. They were industrious\, civic-minded people. They held a Constitutional Convention and activated a state government on Dec. 20\, 1849. They acted so rapidly that it took Congress almost a year to catch up. Partially because California was not officially declared a state until Sept. 9\, 1850. \nIt was an unparalleled phenomenon. No other American state has been organized in such “can-do” circumstances. But by the mid-1870s\, many more new residents were flooding into California. \nThey were Civil War veterans seeking grants of public lands. Some people could enjoy the convenient transportation of the newly completed transcontinental railroad. \n \nOld-timers shook their heads and worried that\, with the nature of the population changing so rapidly. That it was only a matter of time before the colorful history of the Gold Rush and early-day statehood soon would be forgotten and neglected. So they hit upon an idea. Why not form an organization of men who had been BORN in California? The former Moon Room/the Griffin is rehabilitated into a 1970s-inspired den\, offering big leather banquettes\, orange hanging lamps\, and ample room\, along with a handful of TVs\, Tex-Mex food\, rotating local beers on tap\, and of course\, cocktails. \n \n \n  \nHigh Low Bar Menu\nFor the food\, the High Low brings Tex-Mex-style puffy tacos\, nachos\, queso\, and burgers. The cocktails are uncomplicated with an emphasis on fresh juices. \n \n \nTry the king pine with Sazerac rye\, lemon\, simple syrup\, pineapple gum syrup\, and aquafaba. And in a fitting invention\, the disco inferno cocktail includes Verde Momento mezcal\, lemon\, agave\, aquafaba\, and a chili-sea salt floating sprinkle. Well drinks will be $8\, with $12 house cocktails\, and draft beers from $5 to $10. Daily happy hour will feature $6 wells and discounts on select draft and house cocktails. \n \n  \nHigh Low Bar Setting\nThe look and feel of the place with its arched brick ceilings\, stone columns\, and moody lighting is giving a casual cozy feel. Left over from previous tenants\, the tavern aesthetic remains firmly intact\, like the wrought iron enclosed front patio\, stunning center fireplace\, and winding brick ceiling. \n \nThere’s also a space for movie nights or singing your guts out at karaoke.
