Settling into its current iteration around 1975\, it was an early stage for drag and gay cabaret acts and a safe space for non-identifying Latinx locals. In the early 2000s\, it gained notoriety as one of the central hubs and incubators for the blossoming indie music scene. \n \nBands like Rilo Kiley\, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club\, and The Silversun Pickups all started on our stage. As the longest-standing\, independent\, live music venue in Silverlake\, the blending of the two subcultures has cemented its place in local history. The Silverlake Lounge is a place of diversity and a safe space for Creatives and the Queer BIPOC community. It is one of the few properties left that serves the whole of its community. \nOur continued mission is to produce nightly entertainment that presents independent\, emerging artists to greater Los Angeles and its welcomed travelers while remaining a local watering hole for the East Side neighborhood. The Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round is a nostalgia-inducing gem that\, much like Disneyland\, is still enjoyed by the young and the young-at-heart decades after its inception. The small carousel\, which is tucked away into a quiet corner of the park\, served as Walt Disney’s inspiration for Disneyland. When his children were young\, Walt\, a Los Feliz denizen\, took them to the merry-go-round on weekends. During one visit\, while sitting on a bench watching his kids circle round and round\, he was inspired to create a large scale gathering site that the whole family could enjoy. His dream was realized on July 17\, 1955\, when Disneyland opened to the public. \n \n  \nClassic Car Show with a little coffee and some amazing automobiles\nLast Sunday of every month\n  \n \nCars & Coffee Los Angeles was founded to bring together like-minded automotive\, photography\, and design enthusiasts. The weekly event is celebration of Black culture\, art\, music and dance. \n\n  \n \n\nWeekly crowds come to support Black owned businesses and try the flavors from around the globe. The village is one of the most prominent Black cultural spaces in Los Angeles\, and it is a symbol of Black life in this city. \n  \n \n\n\nEverySunday from 3:00pm until dusk the African beats of the drums can be heard throughout the neighborhood. Drummers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate in this exciting community event. Leimert Park has been a meeting place for the people of Los Angeles for at least since the early 80s. \nThe drum circles feature musical styles from across the African continent\, with local drummers join with others coming from various parts of Africa\, Latin America\, the Caribbean islands. DESCRIPTION:TODAY @ CAAM – Exposition Park\nCAMM is pleased to present \n  \n  \n  \n\n \n600 State Dr\, Los Angeles\, CA 90037\, USA \n\nABOUT CAAM\nThe California African American Museum‘s mission is to research\, collect\, preserve\, and interpret for public enrichment the history\, art\, and culture of African Americans with an emphasis on California and the western United States. \nFounded in 1977\, CAAM has a long and rich history. The first African American museum of art\, history\, and culture fully supported by a state\, CAAM was the direct result of a sustained\, multiyear campaign of activism undertaken by visionary founders and community members. Its creation was an early and tangible recognition by the State of California of the critically important role African Americans have played in the American West’s cultural\, economic\, and political development. \n \nCAAM’s permanent collection consists of over 5\,000 objects ranging from the 1800s to the present. It encompasses paintings\, photographs\, film\, sculpture\, historical documents\, and artifacts\, and it spans nineteenth-century landscape paintings to modern artworks to contemporary mixed-media reflections on cultural and political events. The Museum’s first acquisitions included a bronze bust of civil rights activist Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune by artist Richmond Barthé and a sculpture by artist Maren Hassinger\, then at the start of her career. These laid the perfect groundwork for CAAM’s mandate to assemble a comprehensive\, thoughtful\, and wide-reaching collection. \nCAAM’s deepest holdings include art made or connected to African Americans in California and the western United States. However\, the Museum also has significant works of contemporary art from the African diaspora (including Haiti\, Brazil\, and Jamaica)\, as well as traditional African art from Western\, Central\, and Sub-Saharan Africa. CAAM aims to represent the diverse contributions of African Americans in the United States\, but also to interpret how the past has affected identity in the present. \n \nVISIT\nThe California African American Museum is located in the heart of Los Angeles\, just steps away from USC\, the California Science Center\, and the Natural History Museum. With a belief that the greatest art collections are built when the art is being made\, the Broads took to collecting art of their own time. \nThe Broad is home to 2\,000 works in the Broad collection by more than 200 artists\, and is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. The collection features in-depth holdings of influential contemporary artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Mark Bradford\, Jasper Johns\, Jeff Koons\, Barbara Kruger\, Yayoi Kusama\, Kerry James Marshall\, Julie Mehretu\, Takashi Murakami\, Robert Rauschenberg\, Ed Ruscha\, Cindy Sherman\, Cy Twombly\, Andy Warhol\, and more\, plus an ever-growing representation of younger artists. \n  \nView Our Collection Here\n \nIn Under the Table\, 1994\, the viewer is both in the world of imaginary giants and in the world of remembered childhood. Fusing Alice in Wonderland with the Duchampian tradition of the readymade\, Artist Robert Therrien constructs a doppelganger from an everyday object\, both displaying his visual wit and actualizing literary or imaginative fantasy in three-dimensional space. The table exudes an extraordinary aura\, compelling one to walk underneath the table and conjuring the physical memory of being under the table of one’s childhood home. Complicated and powerful\, the work offers fresh ideas of what a table\, sculpture\, and memory can mean. \n  \n  \n \nUsing the recognizable form of a balloon twisted into the shape of a dog\, Koons has frozen a moment in time\, exaggerating both scale and material. \nBalloon Dog (Blue) is literal and abstract.
