SUMMARY:Cars and Coffee Los Angeles
DESCRIPTION:LAST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH- Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round Lot \nCars & Coffee Los Angeles is a Classic Car Show held at the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round Lot #1\, located at 4730 Crystal Springs Dr\, Los Angeles\, CA 90027. The Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round is a nostalgia-inducing gem that\, much like Disneyland\, is still enjoyed by the young and the young-at-heart decades after its inception. The small carousel\, which is tucked away into a quiet corner of the park\, served as Walt Disney’s inspiration for Disneyland. When his children were young\, Walt\, a Los Feliz denizen\, took them to the merry-go-round on weekends. During one visit\, while sitting on a bench watching his kids circle round and round\, he was inspired to create a large scale gathering site that the whole family could enjoy. His dream was realized on July 17\, 1955\, when Disneyland opened to the public. \n \n  \nClassic Car Show with a little coffee and some amazing automobiles\nLast Sunday of every month\n  \n \nCars & Coffee Los Angeles was founded to bring together like-minded automotive\, photography\, and design enthusiasts. The events are very chill and welcoming to all car sorts. Our core group of regulars is composed of area locals who aren’t shy about sharing the neighborhood’s rich history. As always\, we ask all attending to respect the location and surrounding area from excessive noise. It is a 501(c)(3) corporation and has a volunteer Board of Directors\, who are nominated and elected by the membership at large. The Peninsula Neighborhood Association derives its effectiveness and strength from the diversity\, vitality and commitment of its membership\, as it pursues its goal of preserving the Peninsula’s unique quality of life in an ever-changing environment. \nNOW YOU CAN JOIN/RENEW MEMBERSHIP ONLINE HERE \nor \nDownload Membership Form. \n\nPENINSULA NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION\nThe Peninsula Neighborhood Association is a neighborhood organization open to all Peninsula residents\, whether property owners or renters\, for a per person annual fee of $25.00. It has a volunteer Board of Directors who are nominated and elected by the members of the Peninsula Neighborhood Association each November. \nThe Peninsula Neighborhood Association was incorporated in 1960 to oppose a plan by the City to replace the bayside beach with a sea wall\, as exists in Naples\, for private boat docks (thus the name Peninsula Neighborhood Association). Since winning that battle\, the Peninsula Neighborhood Association has been actively involved in preserving the Peninsula’s quality of life through sponsoring local events and activities\, as well as representing Peninsula residents before the City on matters that could affect our neighborhood. \nMISSION STATEMENT:\nTo protect and preserve the beaches along the Long Beach Peninsula for public usage and to ensure these beaches\nand community be maintained at the highest residential and recreational standards. \nHISTORY\nOne of the first structures on the Peninsula was an isolated duck hunting club located at the bayside end of what is now 61st Place. The club was established at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. The first summer beach homes\, primarily owned by residents of Los Angeles and Pasadena\, were built in 1902-04. Owners of these summer homes were able to reach the Peninsula by means of an interurban electric train that ran from Los Angeles to Newport Beach. The train ran down the center of Ocean Boulevard the length of the Peninsula and then across a trestle connecting the east end of the Peninsula to Seal Beach. \n“The Pavilion\,” which at various times during its history served as an expensive restaurant and roller skating rink\, was established around 1910-12 at the oceanside end of 62nd Place\, which was then called Pier Avenue. Pier Avenue undoubtedly got its name from the pier that extended out into the ocean from The Pavilion. The Pavilion and its pier burned down a few years before a massive hurricane swept across the Peninsula in 1939\, destroying or causing significant damage to most structures throughout the Peninsula. \nThe Seaside Walk Boardwalk\, which was built in the ’20s\, is considered by residents to be a historical treasure. Attempts to replace it with concrete have been strongly opposed by Peninsula residents over the years and\, in the 1980s\, money was raised by residents to provide new surface boards (the City replaced the boards again in 2003). \nThe Peninsula has grown to encompass its current mix of single-family homes\, duplexes\, condominiums\, and apartments. Residents are a diverse group of families\, singles\, and senior citizens who have been residents for decades. The Peninsula continues to evolve\, while at the same time retaining its unique environment and lifestyle. \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nlbpeninsula.org/summer-concert-series\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Hammer Museum Free Screening
DESCRIPTION:TONIGHT- The Hammer Museum\nThe Hammer Museum presents a free screening of \n\n\n\nBORDER RADIO\n\nAllison Anders\, Dean Lent\, and Kurt Voss leapt on to the scene with this stunning early feature\, made while they were still graduate students at UCLA. Ostensibly the tale of a punk musician (played by Chris D. of the Flesh Eaters) who hightails it to Ensenada after stealing unpaid money that was owed to him\, it’s as much a loving portrait of the L.A. indie music scene at the time. Featuring stunning and gritty 16mm black-and-white cinematography by Lent\, it oozes the essence of the 1980s with every sizzling grain. Excellent\, often improvised performances by John Doe of X\, Luanna Anders\, Chris Shearer\, and many others contribute to this glowing record of a dynamic moment in Los Angeles history. \n(1987\, dir.
