Hike to Yoga LA’s mission is to increase individual self-awareness and collective physical health\, through the connection of nature\, community\, and intentional movement. We aim to lead change through innovative programming that promotes cardiovascular exercise followed by focused breath and movement while holding space for diverse\, intergenerational exchange. In these times of crisis\, outdoor\, “respectful-distanced\,” community-centered events are needed more than ever and we hope to be the catalyst for systemic change for all residents of Los Angeles County. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEnjoy Hiking and Yoga Classes as you Find Connection. To Nature. To Community. To Self.\n\nHOW IT WORKS\n \n8 AM: HIKE \nSet your GPS for La Brea & Don Lorenzo. Meet at the East Trailhead Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area to check-in and meet your Hike Leader! \n  \n \n9 AM: YOGA \nMeet at the 9/11 Memorial Tree at the Bluff (nearby the Burke Roche picnic area/Restrooms) \nThe yoga is fun and BEGINNER-friendly! \nFrequently Asked Questions\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow does this work? \nMeet at 8am at the East Trailhead of Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area\, which is at Don Lorenzo and La Brea. \nIf you intend on meeting for the hike\, route your car to “Don Lorenzo and La Brea.” There is street parking and other park lots nearby. You will need to cross the street and take the steps up to the East Trailhead map sign. \n \nUpon arrival\, each participant signs the liability form and the roster. \nYou will have the choice to join a Hike Leader to have a “respectful-distanced” mindful hike experience\, or you may take a self-guided hike. Your Hike Leader will hold space for introductions and mindful pauses during your hike towards the yoga location. Be prepared to say your name\, where you reside\, and your take on the theme of the week. Themes are announced in the weekly newsletter sent every Wednesday\, subscribe here \n \nA few minutes before 9am\, the hike ends at the Bluff\, where you can find restrooms and water fountains.\nAt 9 am\, we will begin the yoga class. \n \nAfterwards\, we take a photo for social media\, join in with your favorite yoga pose of the day!\nIf you decide to post on social media\, please tag us @HiketoYogaLA! \n \nHow much does this cost? \nThis is a community initiative fueled by donations and volunteer hours. Please share your abundance energy with us through donating to our GoFundMe. 100 percent of your donation goes into making these community events accessible to all participants! \nPlease consider joining our VIP Membership Circle to get a Logo Pin (flash your VIP pin to our sign-in team\, no need to sign in more than once!) and exclusive invitations to members-only events. \n \nWhen I enter “Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area” in my GPS\, why does it give me an address on La Cienega? \nThe La Cienega entrance is the official entrance to the park. There is a $7 cash-only parking fee on the weekends. Enter here\, take the road all the way up\, and park by the Burke Roche picnic area/restrooms if you want to ONLY join the 9am yoga. \n \nWhat kind of trail will the group hike?\nThere are many trails up to the yoga location but we plan to have Hike Leaders for our Signature moderate\, nature-full trail with inclines and declines. The trail will take us to up to the Bluff where there are restrooms and water fountains. This 2021 Season we will be debuting the Hummingbird trail (Park to Playa trail + Bowl loop)\, which is more flat and takes you through a beautiful hummingbird garden. Both hikes will be about 40-45 minutes. \n \nWhat if I only want to do the yoga class\, what is the easiest way to get to yoga at 9 am? \nYou can pay $7 cash for parking\, enter at the La Cienega entrance\, and park right by the Burke Roche picnic area/restrooms. Walk about 2 minutes down the Bluff to the 9/11 Memorial Tree. \n \nWho will be teaching the yoga classes? Will the classes be beginner-friendly? \nWe have an awesome team of Hike to Yoga LA Yoga Teachers\, including Hike to Yoga LA Founder\, Laurie\, who enjoys teaching her signature Yoga Wave Circle!\nOur teacher team is diverse in age and body-type\, and are ready to inspire you with community\, nature and of course\, yoga!\nYoga class is 60 minutes long\, starts promptly at 9 am. Please be on time as it is distracting to join when class has already started. \n \nWhat should I bring?\nYour yoga mat\, yoga towel\, beach towel\, or just do yoga on the earth! (Might be wet from morning dew!) It is advisable that you have a mat strap or backpack since you are responsible for your own mat!\nDon’t forget your own reusable water bottle to stay hydrated; there is a water fountain by the Bluff area. \n \nWhat happens after the Hike to Yoga classes? How do I get back to the meeting point? \nThe Park to Playa trail is flat and should take about 15-20 minutes to get back to the Don Lorenzo and La Brea meeting point. \n\nREGISTER ONLINE FOR FREE TICKETS\n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.HiketoYogaLA.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Net Cruze Coffee and Cars
DESCRIPTION:Net Cruze Cars And Coffee- Westchester\, California\nNet Cruze Cars And Coffee events have been going for decades.  And that was news to me upon my first stop in mid-August. \nBut they’re in a new location.  And it’s kind of tricky in that it’s a huge parking lot behind the 99-cents store in Westchester.  Further\, this is a cool event worth checking out for sure. \nSo cars from the ’30s through ’50s are pretty well represented.  And that’s both originals and customs.  Then\, when I was there\, there was a Corvette Club represented too.  All newer C7s but nicely done as well. \nBut everyone and everything is welcome.  For instance\, there was an older Bronco\, a newer Porsche\, and even a Studebaker on hand. \nAdditionally\, the organizers offered coffee and pastries.  Plus a raffle drawing toward the end that kept everyone on hand for cash prizes\, gas cards\, and even handbags for the ladies. \n\n \n1939 Buick \n\nNet Cruze Cars And Coffee – Westchester\, California\nLocation: 6835 La Tijera Blvd.\nAdmission: Free\nVehicle registration: Free \n  \nHours\n2nd and 4th Saturdays: 9:00am – 12:00pm \n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.idrivesocal.com\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

According to the California Department of Food & Agriculture\, this has a number of benefits to consumers and the agricultural community: CFMs — \n\n\nBring fresh\, high quality goods from producers and create a diverse market. \n\n\n Give consumers opportunities to meet the farmer and learn how their food supply is produced. \n\n\n Provide a great opportunity for small farmers to market their products without the added expenses of commercial preparation. This increases their net income and makes it possible for them to stay in business. \n\n\n Offer a flexible marketing alternative without disrupting other produce marketing systems. \n\n\nThere are approximately 800 Certified Farmers Markets in California and approximately 2\,500 certified producers. Of these markets\, 50% are year-round markets. The balance are seasonal\, generally operating from April through October. \n\nHours\n4th Sunday of the Month: 10:00am – 2:00pm\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.marvistafarmersmarket.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n  \n

Like monuments and national anthems\, they intend to create a sense of identity-based on a shared past\, present\, and future. \nLike many other governments\, the communist countries of the twentieth century produced an abundance of flags and banners. They were omnipresent at military parades\, sports events\, and public gatherings. Apart from national flags\, many organizations produced their own richly decorated flags and banners. The Wende Museum holds over 2\,000 of these ornamental textiles in its collection. \nMartin Roemers: Relics of the Cold War\n \nDuring an eleven-year period\, from 1998 through 2009\, Dutch photographer Martin Roemers photographed the structural and topographic remnants of the Cold War in both the East and West. His research took him to Russia\, Poland\, Czech Republic\, Ukraine\, Latvia\, Lithuania\, Great Britain\, Netherlands\, Belgium\, and Germany\, where he documented underground tunnels\, abandoned army bases\, military training areas\, rotting tanks\, and destroyed monuments. \nLight–guard–house: Installation by Farrah Karapetian\n \nThe 20-square-foot aluminum guardhouse that sat outside the ADN headquarters in East Berlin from 1971–92 is both an artifact of an atmosphere of mistrust and representative of past and current political protectionism. Artist Farrah Karapetian will turn this structure into a lighthouse\, changing a gesture of suspicion into a gesture of welcome. The windows of the guardhouse will be tinted in a rainbow gradient encompassing all of the colors potentially included in national flags. Over the course of Wende’s concurrent exhibition\, The Medium is the Message: Flags and Banners\, Karapetian will engage with the public about experiences they have had as migrants. As the stories accumulate and become available on the museum’s website\, the light inside the lighthouse will pause at the various colors associated with the flags of the respective national borders crossed. Rather than the finality of immigration\, the artist’s focus is the prevalence of migration\, asking visitors: What experiences of welcome or mistrust have occurred as you have moved internationally? How have they colored your life in their wake? \n\n \n10808 Culver Blvd.\, Culver City\, CA 90230 \n \nThe Wende is an art museum\, historical archive of the Cold War\, and center for creative community engagement that explores and inspires change.  \nThe Wende reaches beyond the conventional walls of a museum and places equal value on an international scholarship\, community engagement\, digital access\, and wide-ranging experimentation. \nWende is a German word meaning “turning point” or “change” that has come to describe the transformative period around the fall of the Berlin Wall. Founded in 2002\, the Wende Museum holds an unparalleled collection of art and artifacts from the Cold War era\, which serves as a foundation for programs that illuminate political and cultural changes of the past\, offer opportunities to make sense of a  changing present\, and inspire active participation in personal and social change for a better future. \nThe Wende fulfills its mission of exploring and inspiring change through \n\ncollecting\, preserving\, and providing open access to artwork\, artifacts\, archives\, films\, and personal histories from the sphere touched by socialism during the Cold War era (1945– 1991);\npromoting rigorous scholarship\, educating students\, and stimulating general interest through lectures\, symposia\, publications\, and providing access to digitized collections;\npresenting experimental exhibitions and interdisciplinary programming inspired by the collection;\nfacilitating creative collaborations with contemporary artists and designers;\npartnering with other nonprofit organizations; and\nproviding community services such as wellness programs\, opportunities for civic engagement\, and family-friendly activities.\n\nCore Strengths\n\n\nThe Wende Museum’s collection and intellectual activities have achieved notable strength in four areas of specialization: German Democratic Republic; Wende Moments; Personal Histories and Everyday Life; and Public and Private Interaction. \n\nHours\nMonday – Thursday: Closed\nFriday – Sunday: 10:00am – 5:00pm \n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.wendemuseum.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:THIS IS NOT AMERICA'S FLAG
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL EXHIBITION AT THE BROAD: MAY 21 – SEPTEMBER 25\, 2022\nFeaturing over twenty artists\, the special exhibition This Is Not America’s Flag spotlights the myriad ways artists explore the symbol of the flag of the United States of America\, underscoring its vast\, divergent\, and complex meanings. \nTitled after Alfredo Jaar’s iconic 1987 work\, A Logo for America\, This Is Not America’s Flag provides a critical discourse on the symbol’s meaning\, the complexity and contradictions of contemporary national identity\, and artists as active citizens. \nThe exhibition was developed conceptually in the summer of 2020 during the groundswell of activism for racial justice in the wake of the murders of George Floyd\, Ahmaud Arbery\, and Breonna Taylor and was inspired by two works in the Broad collection\, Flag (1967) by Jasper Johns and African-American Flag (1990) by David Hammons. \nThis Is Not America’s Flag presents works from over twenty artists including Laura Aguilar\, Nicole Eisenman\, Jeffrey Gibson\, Jaar\, and Johns\, as well as African-American Flag (1990) by Hammons acquired by The Broad in 2019 and America (2021) by Hank Willis Thomas\, acquired last year. The exhibition includes works that both embrace the flag as the signifier of the nation and its ideals and subvert it to express injustices and inequities woven into the fabric of the U.S.\, past\, and present. \n\nHighlighted Artwork\nAmerica\nHank Willis Thomas\n2021\nMixed media including US flags\n \n  \nAfrican-American Flag\n\nDavid Hammons\n\n\n1990\n\n\ndyed cotton\n\n\n59 x 92 1/4 in. SUMMARY:The Getty Summer Concerts Series- OFF THE 405
DESCRIPTION:SELECT SATURDAYS THIS SUMMER- The Getty Center\nThe Getty Center presents OFF THE 405\, the Getty Center’s annual outdoor summer concert series\, bringing some of today’s most exciting bands to the stage for a memorable experience amid stunning architecture and breathtaking sunset views.\n\n  \n\nHand Habits\nDate: Saturday\, July 23\, 2022\nTime: DJ set at 6 p.m.; Performance at 7:30 p.m.\nLocation: Museum Courtyard\nAdmission: Free\, tickets required. Tickets available July 9\, 2022\n\nHand Habits is the songwriting outlet of guitarist Meg Duffy. Their recent album\, Fun House\, wasn’t intended as a reaction to the pandemic but was the result of taking a difficult\, if much-needed\, moment of pause. Produced by Sasami Ashworth (SASAMI) and engineered by Kyle Thomas (King Tuff)\, its eleven tracks sparkle and surprise\, representing the turning of a corner\, a means of processing hardship and stepping into one’s own power. Meg has also toured as a guitarist with Sylvan Esso and recorded on albums for War on Drugs\, Weyes Blood\, William Tyler\, Fruit Bats\, and others\, and in 2020\, Meg joined Perfume Genius as a touring guitarist. \nRead more: “Inside Hand Habits’ Fun House\,” Fader Magazine. \nWatch: Hand Habits – “Aquamarine” \n\n\nOther Performances Include:\n\nStanding on the Corner\nDate: Saturday\, August 27\, 2022\nTime: DJ set at 6 p.m.; Performance at 7:30 p.m.\nLocation: Museum Courtyard\nAdmission: Free\, tickets required. Tickets available 13\, 2022. \n\nThe New York collective Standing on the Corner often calls itself an “art ensemble\,” a moniker which helps outline its approach to music and performance\, while hinting at its creative roots and perspective. With composer\, conductor and co-founder Gio Escobar at the center of a constantly rotating band line-up that’s seldom the same for consecutive performances\, each of which might feature a radically different concept and repertoire\, SOTC moves freely yet decisively between jazz improvisations\, dub excursions\, garage-noise freak-outs and lo-fi hip-hop collage\, giving prescience to Hua Hsu’s observation that its music sounds like “field recordings from a vanishing city.” SOTC’s work is deeply wedded to this sense of place. Since they began operating in 2014\, its members\, predominantly Black and Caribbean with Escobar emphasizing his Nuyorican heritage\, have become key representatives of New York’s new inter-borough musical avant-garde\, part of a young creative Blackness vanguard. Just as the collective’s sound is in constant\, determined flux\, so are the mediums through which it’s presented: SOTC’s four albums-cum-mixtapes\, a couple of singles\, and occasional short-run films/video installations\, are as central to the group’s legend as its concerts and happenings\, which can take place in a club or DIY space\, at a museum or an art-house theater\, each carrying its own specificity of liberative intent. The constant in the group’s vision is a cultivation of changing aesthetics using the mindfulness of hip-hop natives\, making historical reappraisals through contemporary lenses\, and filtering both via the dignity of local community values. The reason Standing on the Corner has developed a seemingly wide cast of admirers—from underground jazz experimentalists and popular musicians\, to gallerists and curators—is the group’s clear illustration of these connections as a constant ingredient in the continuum of African Diasporic music. And a renewal of the idea that the “art ensemble” is the best way to get these ideas over. “Que Viva Puerto Rico Libre!” \nThis special iteration of the Off the 405 concert series celebrates Working Together: The Photographers of the Kamoinge Workshop\, an exhibition that chronicles the dynamic creative exchange between a collective of photographers that began operating in 1960’s New York City\, who fused the energy of jazz and improvisation into their stylistically untethered approach to representing the African American experience. \nRead more about Standing on the Corner: “Meet Standing on the Corner\, the Post-Genre Crew Whose Music Speaks a Secret Language\,” Pitchfork. \n\nHours\nMonday: Closed\nTuesday – Saturday: 10:00am – 5:00pm\nSunday: 11:00am – 5:00pm \n\n\n  \nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \ngetty.edu/museum/programs/performances/offthe405.html\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

For over 30 years they have played their brand of Latin blues\, roots\, soul\, and reggae together as a family and have been a featured act in the Ventura County Blues Society’s Blues festivals\, the 40th Anniversary of Santa Barbara’s Blues Society concert and more. \nSWEET SEASONS\, A Tribute to Carole King – July 30\n \nSweet Seasons is a tribute to the legendary Carole King. There have been few singer/songwriters that have been as prolific and impactful as Carole King. Driven by an intense love and admiration for Carole’s music\, seasoned tribute artist Carla Buffa felt compelled to assemble an excellent group of musicians to pay homage to King’s legend with a show that includes all of the chart-topping hits that you’ve come to know and love over the years. Buffa is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist who has been a professional musician\, performing nationally and internationally for over 30 years. \nBEACH ST. A GO GO – August 6\n \nThis six-person family-friendly event band located out of Valley Village\, California has a big sound\, made up of professional hard-working musicians who all have many years of entertainment experience under their belts. Founded in 2011 in Palm Coast\, Florida by male lead singer and rhythm guitarist TJ Rosenman\, BEACH St. A Go Go! A Tribute To The Groovy Sounds Of The ’60s…LIVE! has entertained thousands of people at festivals\, concerts\, city\, and corporate events\, private functions\, social clubs\, car shows\, nightclubs\, and more. \nVOPA ROCKS: Classic Rock – August 13\n \nThe birth of Valley Opera & Performing Arts (VOPA) has been a long time coming. After nearly fifteen years of creating glorious music and theater as Center Stage Opera\, we decided that our company name should reflect all the musical genres we encompass: Opera\, Musical Theater\, Jazz\, and even Rock ‘n Roll. We are most definitely still an opera company\, and we remain committed to filling the need for classical vocal arts in the community. However\, our love for music and theater extends beyond the classical arts into other musical genres as well. \n\nNOHO DO’S AND DONT’S\nFor your comfort\, you may bring blankets\, low chairs (under 3 ft. in height)\, tarps\, and pillows. Canopies\, umbrellas\, or EZ-ups are permitted UNTIL the concert starts. Once the announcements begin\, you must take these items down. You may NOT use stakes to keep your blankets in place as they are a safety hazard. There are to be no grills or open flames of any kind in the park. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are permitted. Please keep animals tethered and respect your neighbors by being mindful of your space and the view of others. \n\nABOUT VALLEY CULTURAL FOUNDATION\nOur Mission\nValley Cultural Foundation embraces the diversity of talent\, community\, business\, and education\, by providing live entertainment programs and events in the arts. \nOur History\nFounded in 1975 to assist the Los Angeles City Department of Recreation & Parks in bringing arts and culture to the San Fernando Valley\, the Valley Cultural Foundation has been at the forefront of culture\, arts\, and arts education for more than 45 years. \n \nThe Valley Cultural Foundation’s free Concerts in the Park was launched in 1975 under the guidance of our first chairwoman\, educator Lou Bredlow. Today\, the concerts are still presented free of charge and enjoyed by more than 140\,000 Valley residents each year. First presented in Shadow Ranch Park\, our concerts have a permanent home at the Lou Bredlow Pavilion in Warner Center Park. Built on land generously donated by the Harry Warner family in 1967\, the Pavilion was built for $1.3 million dollars\, $1\,000\,000 of which came from Quimby funds and $300\,000 from the Valley Cultural Foundation’s donors. Today\, we hold a 25-year lease on the Pavilion from the Los Angeles City Department of Recreation & Parks\, and the facility is used for a variety of our cultural and arts activities. \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nvalleycultural.org/concerts-events/noho-summer-nights\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
