SUMMARY:GLOBAL RAINBOW LASER INSTALLATION
DESCRIPTION:CELEBRATING PRIDE THROUGH ART– Los Angeles Coastline\nVenice Pride presents Artist Yvette Mattern’s Global Rainbow installation in association with Bacardi nightly from June 3 to 5 across the California Coast. \n \nYou do not want to miss this large-scale public art light installation. A beacon of diversity and acceptance\, the artwork beams seven rays of laser light representing the color spectrum of a natural rainbow. The presentation is poetic\, magical and powerful. \nThe Global Rainbow is a large-scale public art light installation created by Yvette Mattern. The artwork beams seven rays of laser light representing the color spectrum of a natural rainbow: Red\, Orange\, Yellow\, Green\, Blue\, Indigo\, and Violet. The 120+Wpowerlaserlight projection beaming in parallel horizontal lines creates a natural perspective horizon arc simulating a natural rainbow arc and has a trajectory or viewing spectrum of up to 60 KM depending on atmospheric conditions. \nThe presentation is poetic\, magical\, and powerful. It encompasses the skyline and its viewing perspective is as ephemeral as viewing a natural rainbow. Theoretically and symbolically its presentation encompasses geographical and social diversity in its reach throughout distinct points across the globe. \n \n  \n  \n \nAbout Yvette Mattern\nYvette Mattern is a New York and Berlin-based visual artist whose work has an emphasis on video and film\, which frequently intersects performance\, public art\, and sculpture. Her work has been exhibited internationally. \nYvette Mattern received her MFA in New York City from Columbia University’s Film Division in 1987. She has worked on and collaborated with many artists on film and theater projects including Cindy Sherman’s theatrical feature ‘Office Killer’\, Al Pacino\, Nicolas Cage\, Diller+Scofidio\, and The Builder’s Association among many others. \nHer ongoing monumental laser light installation Global Rainbow has been presented over fifteen times since 2009 including launching the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad in the Northeast\, Northwest England\, and Northern Ireland. \nThe Global Rainbow installation beams seven rays of high specification laser light\, representing the spectrum of the seven colors of the rainbow. The artist had been inspired by seeing an unusual rainbow in a beautiful spot at ‘Walden Pond’ in Massachusetts. Mattern aims to connect all demographics in a beautifully engaging experience. She sees her work as a visual translation of hope and peace. \n  \n  \n  \n\n \nSAVING LIVES THROUGH ACCEPTANCE OF DIVERSITY \n  \nA REBIRTH OF PRIDE\n\n\nFor nearly 100 years Los Angeles’ Westside has been known as a place that celebrates differences. Decades before West Hollywood’s birth\, L.A.’s coastal region was an inclusive oasis home to no fewer than ten gay bars and bathhouses in the ’40s and ‘50s. Among them The Friendship\, Tropical Village\, Jack’s at the Beach\, and the Crystal Baths. Over the years businesses serving the neighborhood came and went\, but by 2006 Roosterfish (est. ’79) was all that remained. A decade later it too would shutter forcing an orphaned community to ponder their place West of the 405. Venice’s first Pride celebration took place on June 3\, 2016\, in an effort to protect an LGBTQ community at risk of extinction due to Roosterfish’s exit. A year later Venice Pride unveiled the Venice Pride Flag Lifeguard Tower\, scored the first NFL team in history to sponsor an LGBT Pride event\, promoted the opening of a new gay bar in Santa Monica\, The Birdcage. Venice Pride’s biggest accomplishment was yet to come. In Fall 2017\, Venice Pride announced amid much fanfare the return of Roosterfish. Made possible through a unique nonprofit partnership with the new operator\, the beloved gathering place held its grand re-opening in June 2018 to coincide with the third annual Venice Pride. \nWhat began as a grassroots push to promote visibility and a renewed sense of community among Westside queer Angelenos each June is blossoming into a year-round organization with programming dedicated to saving lives through acceptance of diversity.Venice Pride is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are proud members of InterPride and dedicated to education\, to the commemoration of LGBT heritage and to the celebration of LGBT culture and liberation. \n\n\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nvenicepride.org/events/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Train Rides in Torrance
DESCRIPTION:EVERY 1st SUNDAY & 3rd SATURDAY- Wilson Park\, Torrance\nSouthern California Live Steamers provides mini-train rides on public run days every first Sunday of the month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and every third Saturday of the month from noon to 3 p.m. All SCLS members are City of Torrance volunteers with annual fingerprint clearance and are not paid for their time expended on maintaining the trains and facility\, and providing the rides.Donations are appreciated. \n  \n \nIn 1987\, for the Torrance 75th anniversary event\, the City of Torrance asked SCLS if they could set up a small track on the back end of Wilson Park. At the time this was a vacant lot\, no trees and only weeds for vegetation. Considerable effort was expended by both the City and SCLS to prepare the area and lay the tracks necessary to run the trains. During the City’s 75th Anniversary Celebration in October 1987\, the free train rides were so well received by the public that the City sought to have SCLS run the trains on a regular basis. On May 11\, 1990\, the City and SCLS entered into a 25-year License Agreement allowing SCLS to provide free train rides at Wilson Park on a regular basis. A new home was found! \nANOTHER 25 YEARS \nThe mini-train rides have become a popular feature of Wilson Park. Originally\, free train rides were offered once a month on the first Sunday of each month. Today\, SCLS provides free train rides twice a month on the first Sunday and third Saturday of each month\, and on special occasions. The City and SCLS entered into another 25-year lease agreement thru May 11\, 2040. \nSouthern California Live Steamers\, Inc. operates as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization under IRS rules and is a registered California non-profit corporation. All of the income for the operation of SCLS is derived by donations from its members\, passengers and corporate sponsors\, and thru fundraisers. SCLS does not charge the passengers for rides on public run days\, though donations are accepted from our riders on public run days which is on the 1st Sunday and 3rd Saturday of each month. Funds received are used to pay SCLS expenses such as insurance\, maintenance costs\, facility upgrades\, fuel\, track repairs\, future track projects\, and other expenses. All SCLS members are City of Torrance volunteers and are not paid for their time expended on club projects or operations. \nmers \n  \nHours\n3rd Saturdays: 12:00pm – 3:00pm\n1st Sundays: 11:00am – 3:00pm \n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nhttps://www.torranceca.gov/\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Hollywood Heritage Museum
DESCRIPTION:OPEN EVERY FRIDAY-SUNDAY- Hollywood\nThe Hollywood Heritage Museum\, is located in the Lasky-DeMille Barn\, which was built in 1901.  The story of the early Hollywood motion picture industry and the historic Hollywood community is told through archival photographs\, historic documents\, movie props and related memorabilia.  Visitors experience the actual structure where Cecil B. DeMille’s office exists\, furnished with selected personal DeMille belongings\, and where countless movies were filmed and studio staff worked and played. \nOn December 27\, 1956\, the Lasky-DeMille Barn was designated California State Historic Landmark No. 554\, recognizing the significant role the building played in the birth of the Hollywood motion picture industry.  Since 1985\, Hollywood Heritage\, Inc. has funded the preservation\, restoration and maintenance of the barn. It’s the oldest existing motion picture production building in Hollywood\, having been established as the Burns-Revier Studio in 1912\, and becoming the Jesse L. Lasky Feature Play Company in 1913.  The Lasky Company merged with Adolph Zuckor’s Famous Players in 1916\, becoming Famous Players-Lasky and merging with Paramount Distributing Company\, finally becoming Paramount Pictures Corporation. In 2014\, the Lasky-DeMille Barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [See the Time Line on the Museum link for a more detailed history of the barn]. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nVISITING THE MUSEUM\nThe Hollywood Heritage Museum is open Friday\, Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4 pm. As we share our ample parking lot with the Hollywood Bowl\, the museum is occasionally closed when the Bowl has an event.  If you are traveling a long way to visit us\, it might be a good idea to phone first to make sure we are open: (323) 874-2276. \n\n\nPARKING\nParking is free. There is a large parking area on the east side of Highland Avenue\, in front of the museum.  There is no entrance facing Highland Avenue.  You have to go around the corner either on Milner Road or Odin Street and immediately turn into the lot.  If there are parking lot attendants at a barricade\, tell them that you are visiting the museum. \nPUBLIC TRANSPORTATION\nThe Metro subway station closest to the Museum is the Hollywood-Highland stop.  We are located approximately a half-mile north on Highland Avenue\, about a 12-minute walk. \nBECOME A DOCENT:\nHollywood Heritage is a volunteer driven organization. Our docents assist museum guests and help with our Barn programs\, as well as many other activities associated with historic preservation issues and the day-to-day activities that make our organization so vital.  If you are interested in becoming involved\, click here. \n  \n \nHOLLYWOOD HERITAGE ARCHIVE:\nHollywood Heritage maintains an archive of historic photographs\, documents\, and other material related to the film industry and the community.  Our archive also includes considerable holdings on Hollywood real estate history and buildings of architectural significance.  We continue to seek material related to our dual mission of industry and community history.  Questions regarding our archive and donations procedures should be directed to our Collections Manager\, Richard Adkins. \nDONATION OF PHYSICAL ITEMS:\nHollywood Heritage welcomes donations both monetary and physical objects.  Donated items fall into two categories. \nFor resale in the Museum Store:  The museum store contains new and used items.  The older items are all donated to Hollywood Heritage and include books on the motion picture industry and its participants\, and books on the Los Angeles area.  It also includes used DVDs\, VHS tapes and other electronic storage of motion pictures\, as well as related items. These types of donated items can be dropped off at the museum along with the donor’s name and address so that\, if desired\, donor recognition and/or a tax letter can be provided by the Collections Manager. \nFor Hollywood Heritage Archive:  These are items that Hollywood Heritage’s curator agrees are compatible with our collection.  An appointment may be set up with our Collections Manager.  Much of the collection has been donated by individuals and families with relatives who contributed to the film industry and the Hollywood community\, often with the goal of preserving their relatives’ participation in Hollywood. We are also interested in photographs or other documentation of any properties in Hollywood\, as we maintain an archive of each property by address.  For further information about donations you may contact our museum manager. \nHollywood Heritage\, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 California state non-profit corporation.  All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.  We will be happy to provide a receipt for donations for tax purposes. \n\n  \n  \n \nAdmission:\nHollywood Heritage members:  Free! (Join at the door or online). \nAdults: $10 \nChildren under 12:  FREE! \nHours\nFriday – Sunday: 12:00pm – 4:00pm\n\nFor additional information\, visit the website @ \nwww.hollywoodheritage.org\n \n  \nFind more \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

The demographic was diverse and I could always love a diverse crowd- Alexis G. Perth Amboy\, NJ \nI come here when I want a ghetto ass place to get a stiff drink and shake my ass in a dive bar. Drinks have gotten a little pricey but they’re spicy. Appreciate the dicey atmosphere within steps of boujee downtown Culver City. Music late nights and they’re not open until late (9 is late for my old ass). Directly across from in n out on Venice or walk through the alley behind the east side of Main st in Culver City toward Venice Blvd.- Jen A. Culver City\, CA \nSo I came here not knowing what to expect. I usually go to parties and clubs in OC or dance festivals. I’m 47 years old and single guy btw.\nTo make it short\, the minute I got there I was approached by 2 extremely attractive white blonde girls. Unfortunately I found out one of them wasn’t even of legal age. But the other girl was. We danced and drank and all. We exchanged numbers and she actually called me.\nThis never happened to me in 33 years of going to clubs (yes I did go clubbing and drinking at the age of 14 when I lived in Germany…don’t know how I’m still alive and work for one of the most exciting and innovative companies on the planet lol.)\nSo yeah… go there. You won’t get disappointed. A LOT OF WHITE GIRLS WHO LIKE MINORITIES GO THERE. So much so that this place has more white chicks than guys lol- Alireza S.
