We just require a one drink minimum to sing.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday– The Oaks Acoustic and Open Mic Singer/ Songwriter\n\n \nTo get booked for a set 7:30-8:30pm shoot Joey a message on IG @bluemusicj \nAfter OA Tuesdays we have… karaoke  10pm-1:45am \n  \nKARAOKE IS BACK EVERY NIGHT OF THE WEEK!\n  \nWednesday- King Trivia/ Karaoke with Kirk!\n \nJoin us every Wednesday & Sunday for Team Trivia with King Trivia! \nEvery week\, teams of 2-6 people compete to prove they are the smartest\, or at least they have to most random information in their memory banks.  Not only do you get bragging rights\, but first place gets a $30 gift certificate\, second place gets a $20 gift certificate\, and if we have 5 or more teams we also give out third place!  Even if you aren’t so good at the trivia stuff (I suck at Trivia Crack)\, it’s fun to join in! Bring your friends who are smarter than you\, because you’re allowed to have up to 6 people on your trivia team-that’s why team trivia is better than solo trivia.  We don’t give points for creative answers\, but sometimes you’ll get free glassware and swag just for being the funniest.  Our host is Rebekah Fear stay late to hear her sing some badass karaoke. \nTeam Trivia starts at 7:30pm\, so don’t stop home after work\, come straight to the bar to get here before 7pm to take advantage of our happy hour specials!  We serve pizza\, tacos\, burritos & quesadillas\, so no need to drive through on your way here\, but if you’re craving a burger or sushi\, that’s ok too.  We allow outside food as long as its none of the food mentioned above.  It is a one DRINK per person minimum to participate in our team trivia- if you’re sober\, that’s okay\, we have soda\, juice\, non alcoholic beer and delicious cold-pressed coffee from Modern Times Brewery! \n  \n \nWhen team trivia is over around 10pm\, we have Emily Kirk getting you Kirked all night long with her amazing pipes on karaoke. \nEmily is a musician and comedian and hosts events all over town and now she is at The Oaks on Wednesday\, & Thursday nights hosting karaoke for you! Science & Safety exhibition invites you to explore Casa Del Fuego\, Apartment 911 as a fire danger detective\, seeking out fire and burn hazards so you can help make families\, pets and homes safer. Hands-on interactives give you a chance to explore the science of fire—safely—by creating “fire” out of different ingredients in our firepit\, practice fire-fighting skills with a fire extinguisher\, and figure out which appliances might blow a circuit if you use them together. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nExplore below to discover some of the experiences you can have in this totally hot permanent exhibition. The Fowler enhances understanding and appreciation of the diverse peoples\, cultures\, and religions of the world through dynamic exhibitions\, publications\, and public programs\, informed by interdisciplinary approaches and the perspectives of the cultures represented. \nAlso featured is the work of international contemporary artists presented within the complex frameworks of politics\, culture and social action. \nFowler Museum at UCLA provides exciting\, informative and thought-provoking exhibitions and events for the UCLA community and the people of greater Los Angeles and beyond. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAreas of the Collection\n\n\n\n\nARTS OF AFRICA AND THE AFRICAN DIASPORA\n \nOne of the largest and finest in the United States\, and one of the top twenty African collections worldwide\, this collection offers a superb representation of the arts of many African nations\, including objects from Senegal\, Nigeria\, Ghana\, Cameroon\, Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire)\, Kenya\, Zambia\, and South Africa. The Yoruba collection alone is one of the three finest in the world. It contains a spectacular array of beaded objects\, including a majestic throne\, elaborate chiefly gowns\, and sophisticated divination regalia. \nA collection of post-apartheid election materials and contemporary South African art is being developed\, as are a number of collections of popular urban arts from countries including Tanzania and Muslim Senegal. Recently\, more than 400 textiles made by the Kuba peoples of the Democratic Republic of the Congo were gifted by the Christensen Foundation. \nThe collection represents some of the finest examples of men’s embroidered raffia pile cloths and women’s appliqué cloths. This collection complements already significant holdings of West African textiles from countries such as Mali and Ghana\, including kente and adinkra cloth and Asafo flags. The museum also has significant holdings of arts from the African Americas\, notably arts of Haitian Vodou\, Brazil and Suriname. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nARTS OF THE AMERICAS\n \nThese holdings include a comprehensive collection of pre-Columbian ceramics with the best representations from West Mexico\, the Valley of Mexico\, and pre-Columbian Peru (with special strengths in the art of the Moche). The Fowler also possesses a cohesive collection of Guatemalan costumes; an extensive collection of Mexican clothing; textiles of Peru; and a comprehensive representation of field-collected market materials from Michoacan\, Mexico. Complementing the pre-Columbian collections are field collections of the Warao and Yecuana Indians of the Orinoco Delta of Venezuela and contemporary Latin American popular arts including Mexican trees of life\, Day of the Dead figures\, and masks from Metepec\, Oaxaca\, Michoacan\, Jalisco\, Peubla\, and Guanajuato. \nNative American materials from the U.S. and Canada are a small but significant part of the collection. Materials from the United States and Canada include well-known Northwest Coast material\, as well as a notable cross section of late nineteenth-century Inuit art and material culture. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nARTS OF ASIA AND THE PACIFIC \n \n  \nThe Fowler Museum at UCLA collections from Insular Southeast Asia\, including Indonesia\, the Philippines\, Malaysia\, and aboriginal Taiwan\, are among the strongest in the United States. The Indonesian and Philippine textiles reinforce the Fowler Museum’s standing as a major repository for the textile arts. Also included are significant collections of sculptural material from Sumatra\, Borneo\, Sulawesi\, and Luzon\, puppetry from Java and Bali\, basketry from Indonesia and Philippines\, and metalwork from the Philippines. The primary strength of the Pacific collections lies in materials from Papua New Guinea\, especially the Papuan Gulf\, Trobriand Islands\, Sepik River\, and Maprik region. Australia and Polynesia are also represented by sizeable collections\, including 45 rare Maori cloaks. \nThe collections from mainland Asia are smaller but growing rapidly\, due to current collecting priorities. A collection of betel-chewing paraphernalia\, representing several countries in South and Southeast Asia\, is considered one of the finest in the world. Other holdings include textiles from Bhutan\, Pakistan\, India and Japan\, baskets and decorative arts from Japan\, puppetry from China\, Thailand\, India\, and Turkey\, and art and artifacts from Nepal. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nARCHAEOLOGICAL COLLECTIONS\n \nThe Fowler Museum at UCLA also serves as a repository for archaeological collections acquired during research conducted by UCLA faculty\, staff\, students\, and other professional archaeologists. Documentation of the collections includes artifact catalogs\, excavation notes\, maps\, and photographs. These collections serve primarily as an archive for teaching and research. Chace Park \nwas first opened in 1972 at 13650 Mindanao Way in Marina del Rey\, California and was named in honor of the Father of the Marina and long-time Los Angeles County Supervisor\, Burton W. Chace.  The Park hours are from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm 7 days a week while the Office hours are from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm 7 days a week. Burton W. Chace Park offers multi-purpose rooms\, picnic tables\, barbecues\, pergolas\, picnic shelters\, outdoor programs\, great harbor viewing areas\, guest docks\, and is host to numerous year-round events. Admission is free. The Marina del Rey water bus offers rides around the Marina for $1.00. There are always a number of Events going on in the Park throughout the year\, including the Discover Marina del Rey Day where you can meet the Chace Family the first Sunday of each October. \n \nThe Park has a Community Room for which reservations may be made for your community event and great outdoor facilities. Chace Park: 10 acres of lush lawn and trees extend into the Marina’s main channel offering magnificent boat and ocean vistas. Built-in barbecue grills and tables invite picnicing. The free outdoor summer concerts run from July through September each year on Thursday and Saturday nights. \nIf you are into cycling\, the Park is located on the South Bay Bicycle Trail which spans from Will Rogers State Beach to the north in Pacific Palisades to Torrance County Beach in the South at the base of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and the Park is located about halfway between the two points making it an ideal stop along the way. \nBurton W. Chace Park has been the site of many weddings\, scenes on television shows including the OC\, and is home to a wealth of community events throughout the year. A fantastic group of artists & dancers who work with LED Hula Hoops and other LED apparatus they can spin\, toss\, throw in the air\, etc. \n \n Very friendly and talented peeps.  \n \nCelebrating our love of  the FLOW at Glow Flow Santa Monica!\n\n\n\n\nHow to Capture the Glow Flow Moment\nIf spin isn’t your thing\, how about photography. Here are different ways to shoot Glow Flow Santa Monica. \nGOLDEN HOUR / BLUE HOUR\nYou can shoot available light for images of the artists. \nSLOW SHUTTER SPEED\nAs Glow Flow gets dark\, you can use a slow shutter speed to let the moving LED devices draw amazing “spirograph” shapes with light against the night sky. \nSLOW SYNC\nYou can combine both elements with slow sync or rear sync. A long shutter speed captures traces from LED Hula Hoops and then your on-or-off-camera flash lights the artist. \nTHE BEST FLASH?\nI haven’t had the best results with built-in pop-up flash. I like using an external flash in the hot-shoe. At Glow Flow\, We often say that having flash off the hot-shoe produces better lighting. For me\, in this case\, I think there’s so much going on\, that hot-shoe mounted flash works well. You could bring a light stand and battery powered strobe which might look great but seems like a lot of gear. \nTRIPOD?\nIf you use flash\, it will freeze the artist\, and the point-light-sources of the LEDs effectively freeze themselves\, so you can shoot this handheld. However\, you will get crisper images if you use a tripod. \nBRACKET\, BRACKET\, BRACKET!\nAs you can imagine\, dialing in your exposure can be a bit complicated! Plan to try a variety of different shutter speeds to see what works with the LEDs.
